Nasty fries, soggy southern fried chicken. Have to put a hundred words for some very bizarre reason, isn’t it enough to say the food was very poor!

A great place to go, friendly staff and owners. The food was great, well presented and reasonably priced.

Hot day but the air conditioning was wonderful. The cod was lovely and large. Scampi was lovely too. Great staff.

Drove 20 mins to here after checking website to find it was closed with a small sign saying closed for the week. Disappointing that nothing on the website to advise of this!

Had a burger & chips, disappointing to say the best about it. It was an overcooked thin dried meat disk x2 (how can any meat be cooked like that, what do they do to it ?) and the chips were almost underdone....not a crunch, no "fluff", just slightly coloured potato. Good portion size of "chips" however, good filling in the burger and very pleasant staff

The last time I visited this chip shop in Midsomer Norton was 12 months ago, I vowed never to return Sadly I decided to give them another chance. They were still as poor as b4 The batter was like eating cardboard, the fish was dry & the chips were acceptable

Definitely won't get service with a smile here! Staff were miserable. Ordered food then went to eat in the car and had no salt and vinegar on. Went back and asked for some and it was obviously a chore for them. Even after that the chips were very dry and tasteless. Was like they were still living in covid times too behind a big screen. Couldnt have felt more unwelcome. Won't be going back. Very poor!

Always used to come here when passing by, now I will not be coming back ever! Went into takeaway area, young lady was very straight faced and un welcoming. All we wanted was chips with a few scrumps on top but that was apparently way too complicated. We ended up with a huge box of chips and a huge bag filled with scrumps! Enough to put us off. We asked for salt and vinegar but apparently they can’t put it on themselves so gave us a bag full of malt vinegar (which came out white) and salt sachets. The vinegar was disgusting. The chips were dry and tasteless! Mc Donald’s chips are better! Honestly won’t ever be wasting my money here ever again.

Best fish and chips etc. in the area. Includes spacious restaurant and alcohol. Limited parking.

Excellent and enormous portions of fish and chips. Succulent and tasty. Currently only open from Wednesday to Saturday to eat in (I think the takeaway runs the same days).

As usual fantastic food fish batter crisp and the chips light and fully well to all the staff. The staff welcoming and very friendly. So well done all at the whitstone fish and chips keep it up

Still treat customers like a potential disease threat to the staff but cramp us into a tiny room to wait together, feels oppressive. Food is decent but overpriced and menu items are often unavailable. So far never had items missing from my order which is good.

I would normally give this place a 5* review. I have used it on and off when passing through. Today, I stopped here on the way back from Bristol. When I got home, I found that all the chips to be old and tasteless. The fish had very little flavour. The cheese and onion pasty had been over heated in a microwave. The smell of the food was quite unbearable. £30 spent on food for a family and half of it went in the bin! Not happy at all!

Delicious food, very large filling portions and the most amazing chicken bites! We ordered fairly close to closing time and it wasn’t an issue. Definitely will be returning!

Only ever used the take away service so my review is based on this and not the restaurant. Friendly staff, very good food, good prices, food always cooked properly and to a high standard. Highly recommended.

We had a lovey evening meal here. They booked us in for a last-minute table of 10. Really efficient, friendly service. Food was reasonably priced and massive portions. Great selection of all your favourite chipshop classics. Desserts were lovely, too. My child suffers from a sensitive gag reflex and was unwell in the carpark. Staff cleaned up and provided us with a bag without us even asking. Just small gestures, but go a long way in an unfortunate stressful incident! Thank you :)!

Chips ok, but had the scampi and when I got it home it was burnt.first time I had a meal like that but has really put me off now.

Every so often we treat ourselves to fish and chips at Whitstones. Our meal yesterday was up to the usual excellent standard. I don't think fish and chips gets any better than this – lovely crispy batter, excellent quality fish and good chips. Friendly staff and good service. Highly recommended.

Absolutely love coming here. Never disappointed. Great fish and chips plus chicken and chips. Fabulous choice on the menu and very quick and helpful service. A family favourite of ours when coming through Shepton Mallet.

Been a while since I’ve been in. Seems the prices have risen AND certain items got smaller. Curry sauce has shrunk in size as has the half chicken. Food tastes 100% though never had any issues. (Takeaway)

Amazing restaurant. Food was spot on, food value for money. Portiin sizes were generous and a good variety for all family members. Staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly even though they were extremely busy. Happened upon here purely by accident as needed somewhere local on route to an event at Shepton Mallet Prison. Would definitely recommend and return in the future. :))

Absolutely appalling customer service. The girls at the till were great but the manager couldn't care less. Ordered and paid for a kids box meal with another order, waited 10 mins only to be told that they had no cod bites. I asked if rhe could perhaps supply a small fish portion instead to which the manager loudly said to the nice girl who asked, 'no, she'll have to pick something else'. I wouldn't have minded so much had I been told they'd run out when I ordered but that's just rude. The other meal was chicken nuggets and chips and the nuggets were small and soggy. Shocking service, shocking attitude and awful food.

We went here on a weekday at around 7pm. Without reservation, we were seated immediately, by very friendly staff. Within 45 seconds we got the menu's and our drinks were there within 3 minutes. Food only took 5 minutes more. Amazing speed, efficient staff and very friendly as well. The fish and chips was amazing, lovely big portions, and tasty. The burger was amazing as well, and all together very reasonably priced. Parking is on site, it's easy to reach and the toilets are very clean as well. Love to come here again when we will be back in the UK.

Served by a delightful staff team who were completely unphased by thirty eight people descending on them each wanting something different. They served with grace and got it all right! It was delicious. Thanks

Unfortunately we have been using Whitestones for 10+ years but, over the last few years I don’t think we’ve had a single fulfilment of an order. From no Salt and Vinegar to missing items and the worst part is literally nothing being remotely warm considering we are normally sat with food in front of us in less than 5mins from collection. To add insult the missing item this time around actually arrived 26mins after I called and was actually wrapped in foil and still nice and hot. Will be going to Tuckers in Wells from now on, our experience from there has always been the opposite despite a 10-15 min drive before food on plate. Always tastes good and always still hot.

Being a fan of fish and chips for as long as I can remember, I have to say that Whitstones fish and chips at Radstock is superb. I’ve recently been on holiday on the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall, Devon and Dorset and I always ask the locals where the best chippie is however none of them stack up to my local Whitstones. Sometimes it’s the fish that lets these shops down, sometimes the batter and sometimes the chips but not Whitstones, it’s absolutely the best. If you’re in the Radstock area and you like fish and chips like me give it a go, you won’t regret it.

Clean, lovely staff and the portions sizes are huge definitely value for money and most importantly the food is delicious 😋

Dried up piece of old cod and not crispy chips a real disappointment For £10.80 This place used to be good

Very disappointed , Terrace closed , decided to have takeaway , the area where you order is divided off with Perspex screens . You feel like you are stuck in a time when we were in Lockdown , very strange . The long anticipated food arrived and was very mundane nothing special at all . This Restaurant/ Takeaway had come highly recommended, not sure if we had come on a bad evening ? but we won’t return .

Never seems to be open. Stopped hoping to get chips when passing through, thinking they would be open a day before Glastonbury but I was wrong and as far as lm aware it's the only chip shop in Shepton mallet. Think they lose a lot of custom.

Got the order complete wrong. Went back to change it which they did but chips were cold and had no salt or vinegar on them and one of the staff was rude Won't be going back

Excellent moist fish in crispy batter, chips pretty good and plentiful, staff friendly and efficient. There is a bar, and a great 70s soundtrack when we visited.

Visited this weekend and had excellent fish chips and peas . Freshly prepared as it was fairly quiet , nice crisp battered chunky cod ..

Friendly, professional service...and more importantly, the food was as nice as any I've ever had. When visiting at a later date, food was dry and had been hanging around, to top it off, I may of been slightly over charged. Disappointed.

In my opinion, not as good as it used to be. Chips seemed to be rushed, slightly under cooked/pale. Prices are average now, due to increases. I won't be going back.

I was kindly invited to join a friend and family for a lunchtime anniversary treat. May I say the fish and chips I had restored my faith in fish and chips! Unfortunately my local chippy in town isn’t a patch on yours! They were simply delicious! None of needed to eat for the rest of the day! Thank you and your staff for such a wonderful Saturday lunchtime treat!

Staff very rude but the best chips and fish ever

The best F and C I’ve ever had - no contest..fresh from the fryer the taste is hugely better than the take away experience - something is always lost in trasit home. But I get takeaways too. The wine list is simple but amazingly cheap. The service excellent and rapid , always with a smile. The puddings are as fantastic as they are enormous. You need to be a nifty parker to wiggle your car into the parking spaces outside.

We just stopped by luck as it was 13.00 and we were hungry. Well we very happy lovely clean restaurant very helpful and cheerful staff and you weren't crammed in. The portions were huge and all well cooked and presented. I never give many 5* ratings but they all deserve this one. Thank you for a lovely meal.

This chip shop is the best chip shop i have ever been to, me and a friend always call in on are way to Weymouth from Bristol when we go fishing and the shop is open, on the 04/02/2023 we stopped for food at Whitston's, I entered the shop and asked if i could have two battered sausage, one battered sausage and a tub of curry sauce, also i asked if i could have a large bag of chips split in two, as me and my friend didn't want a large bag each, a female assistant working at the fryers heard my request and shouted out to me we don;t split large chips any more, i informed her that it was not a complicated request and to cancel my order, her attitude may stop me from ever going in there again, so for quality of food 200% and for customer service minus 500%

This is a 5* review if you know what you're getting. This is a proper old school chippy. Huge portions, fairly priced and lots of traditional desserts too like Jam Roly Poly. If you want a classic chip shop experience then this place is highly recommended.

We were a group of twelve who had a complex order. The responses to Facebook messages prior to maki g the order was very speedy. Dealing with Nikki was a dream and everything was ready in time and individually labelled. Food was absolutely delicious, hot and yummy! Thank you Nikki and team :-)

It is our last night staying in Shepton Mallet. We fancied Fish and Chips as a quick and easy meal. As Whitstones is the only F+C shop in town we went here. The service was fast and friendly but unfortunately that’s where the experience ends. If this was Jesus’s last meal he would have taken his life easier. The fish was like rubber, the batter chewy, cod bites rock solid and the chips were wet and soggy. I town desperately needs another chip shop! Such a waits of £30! Yes, I said £30. For fish and chips twice and cod bites and chips.

I cannot really mark atmosphere as I took food away. Our second fish and chip meal with the bath and west steam railway. We had a large party for a late club night so a large order. Fish and batter fantastic. It said small piece of fish which was huge. Still crisp when we got back. Food served really quickly given the number of us and it took 4 of them to bring it out. No wonder they are busy. Well done them. Good good highly enjoyable night.

However their sister shop in Westfield is the only shop for miles that is still refusing to allow its customers inside their premises, using their Covid screens etc.. Customers supported them for 2 years during very difficult times in all weathers, waiting outside in cold and masks etc to help them stay afloat. Why they are now treating customers with such contempt is beyond me.... "we can serve you quicker" they say.... thats a ridiculous excuse. i wont return until i can wait for my fish and chips inside in the dry.

What has happened? Worst chips ever. Ruined the decent fish. We don't want dried out, tepid skinny fries resembling chipsticks and absolutely inedible. Especially at £18.50 for 2 suppers. We are not American. We did not request skinny fries. We've never had them from Whitstone's before. Customers want proper chips freshly made from an allegedly award winning fish and chip shop. A ruined supper and waste of fuel not to be repeated.

Though part of a large visiting group, there was a varied cross section of comments regarding quality of the food, some found the fish with more batter than fish and too many chips, - had faggots, no taste, bland, looked like a ball of processed finely mince meat, chips though cooked looked anaemic, were not crisp and were verging on tasteless, an unwanted large portion. Canot fault the excellent service from the staff. Based on this experience reluctant to visit again.

We were on holiday & just stumbled upon the place, we chose to sit in the restaurant. The owners/ staff were so friendly & welcoming, the place was extremely clean. And the food was exceptional, and reasonably priced to. Added bonus that you could have alcohol as they have a bar.

Very average cod and chips. Not sure what the hype is about. Chips always seem a little dry and the fish seems to be mostly greasy batter. Overpriced for what is basically food thrown in a fryer.

It's my last night in this area. I only had mussels left and wanted to add to it. With recommendations from my accommodation I decided to get a takeaway from here as it was close. It was quite busy. I can understand why. The fish I ordered was excellent. Crispy and not greasy. A good portion size of regular cod. It's the same size and maybe bigger than my locals large cod back at my home. I highly recommend this place if anyone is visiting this area. They have a restaurant as well. If I come back I will definitely return!

Not the best fish and chip shop but the only one in shepton

My work partner got chips from here I tried some as they are supposed to be award winning!!! I think the judges must have poor pallets , the chips were tough on the out side and powdery on the in side! I can't see how they have won awards! I have had much better chips else where! And for the price he paid the portion was really small, or maybe the fish was still alive and had eaten them!
