The Crown in Mendip

Second time eating at The Crown and once again the food and service were first class. A different menu from our last visit but a fantastic selection of original and very tasty dishes. Very reasonably priced too. Highly recommend.

Great rooms clean and nicely decorated everything you need. The best bit for us was the outstanding breakfasts we had. Even if you don’t stay here we would recommend just coming to eat. Staff great too.

Personally, the most beautiful hotel I have experienced in the UK on many trips to various English locations: super well-kept and welcoming environment, beautiful furnishings, the use of wallpaper, the details, the small windows, the modern and well-organised bathrooms, lots of personality and uncommon attention. Dinner was one of the best of the trip, everything fresh and well cooked, without a lot of fat or sweetish sauces, really good! The included breakfast is also good. The rooms are named after various rock music stars, which for a rock music fan, in the city of the Glastonbury festival, is truly a super exciting detail. Overall, I would really love to come back!

The food here is incredibly tasty. Very authentic and fresh. I want to know how they get their aubergine tasting so good!! The rooms are so comfy and have the best showers! A pleasant stay and visit.

Without a doubt, one of the best experiences I've had to date. I came here for lunch with my Godson and despite us not arriving until 3pm, they were still serving food! We had a dog with us, but they were more than happy to sit us outside, which is under shelter and with brilliant outdoor heaters. The Staff were beyond attentive, accommodating (including doing a big dog bowl filled with meatballs for the dog!), welcoming and so lovely to speak to. It's rare that you leave somewhere and find yourself telling everybody about how brilliant a place is and I can assure you that I've been chewing people's ears off since we left. Will definitely be returning, as the experience was faultless.

Delicious vegetarian dishes! The establishment had been highly recommended to us by several different locals. We do not regret having followed their advice.

Caminamos por Glastonbury admirando todas las "tiendas preocupadas" y trajes de Halloween, incluidos muchos sombreros negros puntiagudos y luego vinimos a The Crown para refrescarnos y almorzar! El edificio es realmente encantador, decoración Olde Worlde, muy limpio, y el personal es tan alegre y eficiente! Mi acompañante y yo no estábamos demasiado impresionados por las opciones en el menú, así que los dos plump para eglefino, patatas fritas y guisantes de jardín. Hubiéramos preferido el bacalao, ya que no nos gusta la piel del eglefino, pero estaba todo muy bien cocinado, pescado, patatas fritas, guisantes y todo! ¡Los baños son impolutos! Muy recomendable!

First class in every department

We were welcomed and delighted by friendly and helpful service from the staff. We enjoyed a dinner of roast beef on a Sunday evening having just arrived in Glastonbury. The cider was good too :-) We shall no doubt be back when we next visit Glastonbury.

Can only speak to the restaurant/ pub bc I didn't stay in a room. They're food is a solid choice in town as ive eaten here a njmver of times bc most places close at like 4 or 5 in Glastonbury. I like their "make a bowl" option as they're healthiest and their mear feels high quality. GF choices available . I like their loaded fries. Mostly friendly staff, most days. Plenty of choices at the bar for local ciders, meads & ale. Their outdoor seating is limited but a front row seat to the bustling aliveness & ppl watching of Glastonbury Square seasonaly.

I had a roast here 10 months ago and it changed my life! I think about it often. A roast will never compare to The Crown's. I'm now organising to make the 3 hour journey to get another one!

A reasonable selection of food and drinks. Decent location on the High Street a usually a good atmosphere. £5 for cask ales now though, pretty steep 😬

Lovely atmosphere, I really like the way this place is decorated. Didn't eat so can't comment on the food too much. But, it looked and smelt lovely.

Especially on warm days it is chilling to sit in the backyard. Variety of vegan foods. The deep fried tofu was crunchy yummy. Got free WiFi.

Delicious food, great service and everything is a bit different than in the Netherlands. Glastonbury is not high standard but definitely worth a visit

Sloppy meals, King Prawn noodlrs dish & Tofu /salad dish. My companion complained tonight & left it less than half eaten I only ate mine as very hungry. Presentation & texture guys.

I had the most amazing loaded fries and good meetings at the Crown. If you wander what that beer you never heard of is like they'll give you a taste so you can make a good choice. The it place in Glastonbury Friendly staff and nice location

A perfect hotel,with great food,warm staff and central location,come here all 💯

Went there for an evening meal. The beef teriyaki was very good. However, also had some small plate sides that were not so good. Tempura prawns very overdone and rubbery, tuna dish was extremely hot (no warning on menu), and the haloumi was coated in some type of oats making it dry and tasteless. They did pour a good pint, though.

I ate two days in the restaurant, a very central place, with a lot of charm and very good food and service.

My son and I had the nicest week staying at the hotel and in The Bruce Springsteen room. The decor was lovely, the staff friendly, the bed comfy and the breakfast incredible. We will see you next year. Would highly recommend.

I had something to eat and drink here This beautiful hotel is run by friendly staff. The cuisine is, by English standards, quite good. You can sit on a small terrace at the front that overlooks High Street and Magdalene Street. Nice spot

Vaya. La comida en este lugar es absolutamente increíble. No puedo recomendarlo lo suficiente. Teníamos 3 platos pequeños cada uno, que era suficiente. Era tan fresco y sabroso.

Food was ok but very slow. The beef teriyaki dish was dry with not much sauce. Waitress was lovely, gave us a free drink because of the wait. Found it difficult to have a conversation because it was quite loud in there to begin with.

Stay one night at the Crown on our way to John O’Grouts on bikes. Lovely folks who helped store our bikes away in the unused function room. We had the Bob Marley room, which we are pleased to say did not reek of ganja. Super spacious and a really comfy bed. Great shower too. Breakfast was superb. My wife had the eggs Benedict with salmon and I had the vegetarian full English. Both were delicious and substantial. Would definitely recommend staying here to anyone.

Dropped in with family for a lunchtime drink while visiting Glastonbury. Uncomfortable, noisy space, inadequate seating. Staff busy and unhelpful - one member initially confrontational and then downright rude. Unpleasant experience. Cannot recommend. We left and will not return.

Popped in for lunch. Was not disappointed! Great beer, and the food portions are enormous! They also have a customisable section of the menu to make your own rice/noodle dishes - with a lot of Gluten Free options to boot. Fantastic!

Late lunch: I had spicy tofu with beetroot and… see photo! Just wonderful. If vegan cuisine were generally like this, I wouldn’t miss meat 😂 This was one of the most delicious and beautifully draped vegan dishes I ever had. And in a nice location, right across the ancient market cross in the brimming centre of this vibrant town. Nice service, too 😊 I will come back!

A lovely old building, nice coffee!

Do NOT miss out on this tremendously wonderful restaurant and bar! We were traveling around and had just arrived for our stay in town, and we came in for dinner. It was one of the best meals we had in 17 days of travel in England. I started with a brilliant, fresh tuna tartare. Then, the “create your own bowl” I enjoyed had rice noodles, tofu green curry, a green bean salad, tempura prawns and the best sriracha maple sauce (i asked for it on the side). The food all tasted super fresh, delightful in flavor, and healthy. The staff was welcoming and helpful, too. Lots of love in the people and cuisine. I wish I had taken a photo! Bravo chef and staff!

Great food and very friendly service. The soft drinks are a bit watered down though. Edit as a response to owner: the soft drink had the colour but not the taste of what I ordered. Maybe the sirup thing was running low and I just got coloured water (no clue how it works).

I spent a night in the Amy Winehouse room and absolutely loved it. For a solo traveller, the room was very comfortable, clean and modern. I loved the view of the street. The service was also fantastic, I had a delicious meal for dinner and despite a small mishap on the order, the staff were so accommodating and got it fixed quickly. It's definitely worth it to get Bed and Breakfast because their breakfast menu is fantastic. And the location is perfect if you want to take a stroll around to the local shops and attractions. I would absolutely stay again.

Rooms were nice, clean, spacious and modern. I stayed in Bob Marley and it was great. The bar is well stocked and the food menu is really cool with an Asian twist. Perfect lcoation for exploring Glastonbury.

Amazing Sunday Roast. Tasty, well presented, generous! Crispy Coconut Prawns & Vietnamese wrapped spring rolls were divine! Great service. Relaxed atmosphere. Good selection of beers.

At £2 for a half pint of lime and soda it's not at all cheap, the food is reasonable but loaded (cheesy) chips served on a piece of slate wasn't my ideal, and again, not cheap

I visit The Crown every other Friday for coffee and lunch and also work from there. I have always found the staff incredibly welcoming and friendly. There are lots of lovely locals who frequent the bar and restaurant. The food is exceptional and very different to anything else on offer in similar venues. I would thoroughly recommend anything on the tapas menu and also the rice dish served in a pineapple half. Well worth a visit!

Called again this Sunday, review below from our summer visit. Drinks still good, dogs not allowed inside but ok in the outside spaces, the one to the rear is covered and heated. Called for a drink Tuesday lunchtime. The service was very efficient and friendly, drinks were reasonably priced. Good sunny outside seating area to the front, especially for people watchers. The Cornish lager was on good form.

Tried it for a change, everything was great worked well, a few teething problems with my room but the overall experience again was worth it

After a tasteful and approximate refurbishment The Crown has new life! It's comfortable and clean and the food is amazing. The staff are very friendly and the place has a great overall vibe. Lovely addition of the little "nooks" to cozy away time in. The Crown is 100% worth a visit.

they have some very good food and some disappointing food (e.g. the lemon cheesecake seemed like a long-life supermarket bought product) lovely rooms but they only provided one breakfast even though the room rate was for 2 people and included breakfast

Staying not far from the centre The Crown was a perfect location and staff were very friendly and speedy service. Very surprised by the cuisine how tasty it was and arranged beautifully on the plate. Definitely I will recommend this place to eat . 😋.

The best cheesy chips we have ever had. Crispy right through the whole bowl. Great chicken wings, too. Staff were friendly. The sheppys cider was perfect. Dogs allowed outside only, I understand not all pubs allow dogs in, we left ours so could sit inside for more cheesy chips, only to be in the snug when a guy came in with two kids and shut the door, saying I come in here and shut the door because it's like a free cresh. The kids then went up on the chairs and the windowsill, jumping around so we left, along with the others that were sitting in there chilling and talking with drinks.

i booked a room which was advertised as the price for two people, breakfast included. they refused to include two breakfasts arguing that they needed to see proof that a second person had actually slept in the bed with me!! i find this a ridiculous policy and it's not even enforceable given it wasn't mentioned in the contract of sale.

On arrival our room was not cleaned...but they immediately took care of it and made up for it with a nice dinner... very service minded staff that made up for it! The room was fine but a bit "worn"... feel its overall a bit overpriced.

What a great pub. The staff were really helpful and all you could ask for. They happily helped bring our drinks over to our table, and helped us choose the meals which would suit us. The meals were huge! Not only were they really well cooked and delicious, but we had heaps left over and the staff happily provided us with take away containers so we could have the leftovers the next day. Highly recommended.

Refurbished to a lovely standard - tasty good food, lovely atmosphere

Can we give 6 stars?! If we could, we WOULD! As New Yorkers visiting Glastonbury for the first time, we were so grateful to the ENTIRE staff of this place - from the Management, to the Restaurant Wait Staff, to Chef Dan who took a moment to visit our table and chat about his menu! We felt incredibly welcomed to this clean, efficient and kind hotel that is PERFECTLY situated in the middle of town to walk to everything you could want to visit. Not to mentioned we got GREAT night's sleep every evening! A few highlights below:- Steve who greeted us immediately the first night, was so kind and friendly and personally showed us around, and then to our room, then the restaurant etc! Was a perfect first impression!- When the parking lot's coin payment machine had a malfunction one morning and left no way to pay for the day, Karen from behind the bar at breakfast time offered to let us use her personal phone and her parking app so we could then register OUR rental car and it's license plate number through her! That was the only way to avoid a ticket since the coin machine was down, she was so kind!- When our food at the Crown's Restaurant was so damn amazing, Steve our server and bartender asked if we'd like to meet the Chef and we said YES! So the amazing Chef Dan came took a few minutes to come from the kitchen and chat about his inspired menu - he also asked about our trip and where we were from (NYC) and just made us feel so welcomed and special.- Then of course we loved the simple smiles and moments of kindness of others who work there whose names now evade us, but everyone was so lovely.THANKS to everything, when we come back we WILL be staying at this hotel!-Eric and Justin M, August 2023 - Eric M

A great place to sit outside and watch the world go by.

We only had some quick lunch, but it was tasty, and the pub was clean.

What a fabulous place to visit, cosy and great service. The food is phenomenal which is why I visited 2 nights in a row so delicious. Shame they don't do desserts as I expect they would be phenomenal. Very accommodating here. I can't rate the rooms as I didn't stay here

Lovely pub, delicious food and friendly staff.

First off - AWESOME food and drinks. We were a bit jet-lagged and confused with how to order food. For those reading this and in our questionable level of wits, grab a seat and a menu from the bat, figure out what you want, and then order at the bar. little bit confusing to jet lagged us. Gin and Tonic was top-notch. The Glastonbury Ale was good. The Roast Portobello Mushroom Toasty with chips was amazing. Best of all, though, was the Crispy Pork and Meatball Street Noodle Bowl. Way too much food for the two of us, but it is easily our favorite meal of the trip so far.

Cannot recommend the Crown enough. The staff were manically busy last night but still managed to be very accommodating and friendly. The vegan food was amazing! Flavoursome, fresh and filling. If the chef hasn’t got a cook book out yet, why not!? 😁

A hidden gem!!! Never expected a hotel restaurant to be this good but it was one of our fav meals in Glasto. Some really great vegan options and everything was really zesty and fresh. Really nice job and highly recommend for a bite!

Stop of for some liquid refreshments. We'll stocked bar. Lovely lady called Karen went out of her way and brought our boxer some cold water. Thank you.
