The Mendip Inn in Mendip

Had one night here in the nice Birdcage. Positive: Staff, Dinner, Room facilities, the breakfast basket is a nice touch. Loved the bath. Dog friendly. Negative: Felt bed needed a new mattress and pillows. Noise from creaking corridor floorboards. Unfortunately I struggle with noise in general and the road noise was too much for me.

I’m not one for going out as I’m always disappointed, but after hearing good reviews about this place I was intrigued. The outside needs some TLC and inside needs a good scrub ie sticky tables, dirty paint work etc My meal was sent back to the kitchen as it was cold and vegetables chewy ( microwaved) the second meal was hot and potatoes cooked but the meat was tasteless. No homemade desserts. Disappointed

Had two meals here recently, both of which were delicious. Great atmosphere and really lovely staff

Probably the best nights sleep i have had as an over night stay in a single room with onsuite My room was called the rabbit hutch 😆 whats up doc? It was so comfortable. I had tv coffee and kettle with biscuits to munch on. Its truly a comfortable and relaxing experience.. if I ever need a place to stay near Bristol airport again then this it will be ladies and gentleman. Just wished I got there earlier to sit down in their lovely eating area. Well done guys keep up the good work.

Absolutely fabulous meal at the Mendip Inn to night. Stunning food, served by lovely staff and amazingly dog friendly. Can't recommend enough, great varied menu all delivered beautifully.

Lovely location, very friendly and helpful staff however the lunch menu was too light for my taste and a bit overpriced.

What fantastic lunch we have had today with a Family of 28 ( retirement celebration) the drinks came out then the food followed which I must say was very good . The service was brilliant throughout and staff were very professional. We will be back again many thanks .

Lovely country inn! Room was very pretty and modern designed. Only downside was that the shower was a bit hit and miss with temperature and took a little time to get it right. Also, shower door didn’t close fully. Nice breakfast juices, cereal bars etc in the room + water - nice touches. Staff are brilliant - very welcoming. Bar and restaurant are well designed and cosy. Good food options, well presented and tasty.

Lovely pub great service friendly staff excellent food two down points beer and cider prices are good but wine is a bit pricy. Also a discrectionary 10% service charge is added to bill this puts customers in an awkward position we always leave a tip if it is deserved that is discretionary. But dont like being put in a position to have to decline or get the amount reduced

Popped in here for a family meal & it was amazing. Burger was great, steaks were great. Very enjoyable

Stayed at this gem of a pub, stayed for Evening meal, which was excellent. Had starters and main, and there was plenty there and all of very good quality. Fantastic service, fronted by Tom. Would definitely use again

Lovely little place my room was the bird cage. Really cozy comfortable bed really nice bathroom clean and tidy. Really fluffy towels. Happy with my stay.

8 of us plus 5 kids popped to the pub after good food pictures on face book , sadly we wanted to be in the sun in the garden but the grass was so long we couldn’t , it needs cutting now weekly but was a foot high if not more , we left and went to another pub . The building is looking shabby and weeds in front the pub all making it shabby not inviting at all .. shame because it could look beautiful. So important to have a good look to attract customers in . Get a Gardner in is my advice once a week . Paint walls tidy up .

Stopped by on a Thursday lunchtime. Staff were great. Food was quick, tasty and well priced. It's now on our list of places to stop if we are ever passing again.

I can't speak for the rooms, as I've never stayed here. However, I live locally and myself and my partner have been here for dinner. And the food was lovely, and equally lovely staff. A very happy, friendly and accommodating place.

We were driving around Somerset, getting lost but enjoying the scenery, and decided to lunch at The Mendip Inn. This was a very good decision, as it turns out! The Mendip Inn is charming, very "polished" but at the same time cosy! Beautiful decor (after the stylist of Jamie Oliver's eateries, apparently). And the food is to die for! My companion had a Prime Steak Burger, and I had the Chicken Caesar Salad with anchovies. Both meals came to under £25 (as described on the menu). Amazing prices for such an up-market restaurant! The baristress (a French lady) was charm itself! The barista also! The toilets are pristine! What more could you want. Highly recommended!

Local pub which I booked for a works night out. Lovely food especially the ribs and we all cleared our plates! No room for pudding but managed a coffee. Bar staff were polite and helpful and a special shout out to the lovely Lisa !

Such a lovely end to our weekend away. We stopped on the off chance of a table for 4, for Sunday lunch. The food and service were amazing, would highly recommend the sharing Sunday lunch, it was delicious, well presented and lots of choice. Thank you, we will be back!!

We had Sunday lunch here,the food and service was amazing but we felt that the tables were far too close to each other. We felt that we had no privacy from the other dinners. This is not how it used to be.

Fantastic food & service. We went for lunch after a long dog walk in Stockwell Woods. I had a well deserved cheddar ploughman's & a sticky toffee pudding. The pub was dog friendly & staff even brought over dog treats. I will definitely be back.

Coming back from Bristol we decided we would pop into the Mendip Inn, having heard the previous chef was back there. It did not disappoint, my husband had the topside of Beef, while my son and I decided to share the Sunday roast sharing Platter... It was amazing, the lamb wellington was so tasty as was the Pork Loin and the beef.. And the price was very reasonable for what you are served. Not forgetting the excellent waiting staff. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning....

Really friendly staff with a good menu for both lunch and dinner. We had the beef and stilton ciabatta with chips and salad garnish which was very good!

Dreadful meal for group of 13 at leaving party. Poor food, bad service never again.

We booked 2 rooms at the Mendip Inn whilst visiting family over the Easter weekend. After receiving a warm welcome we were shown to the Puddle Duck and Bird Cage rooms, both warm, with comfortable beds and quirky decor. The roll top bath in addition to the rainfall shower in the Puddle Duck room was lovely! The linen used was great quality as were the towels. If I was to be picky I would say that there was no hanging space for clothes though 3 hooks were provided with coat hangers in the room. Not an issue for a short break. Breakfast isn't provided in the restaurant however breakfast bags were left outside the rooms ready for the morning which were a nice touch. We ate in the restaurant and the food was absolutely delicious (particularly the deserts!) An all round friendly atmosphere and excellent value if you're looking to stay in the area. We may well be returning! Thank you

Everything was lovely- clean bathroom, comfortable beds. Not too loud. In the morning a small breakfast was waiting for us behind the door of our room. Dog friendly

Very over-priced meal, quite a small portion and not much veg with the roast. Service charge of 10% was added on too..wouldn’t have given a tip if it wasn’t already added. Nice pub and location but wouldn’t eat there again.

Great Sunday lunch. The Mendip Inn served great food, the restaurant was bright and airy, (lots of good spacing between tables), and the service was superb. Great value for money too!

The Mendip Inn is just that: an old building at a crossroads in Somerset, with four rooms as well as a restaurant area and bar. It’s so much more as an experience, though. First and foremost, we were made to feel really welcome and thoroughly enjoyed speaking with everyone working there: friendly, good fun and genuinely helpful people. Next, the food is a revelation! Absolutely great stuff. I’d go back there any day. The rooms are cosy and quirkily decorated. It’s not a breakfast place (you’ll get a little bag with orange juice, an apple and snacks) but lunch and dinner more than make up for it. Enjoy!

Me and my Partner were looking for somewhere close by for a meal out, we decided to go here which we had never been before. It is a very nice, relaxing and stylish pub feels so cosy, both meals were amazing I had the specials curry and it was probably one of the best I've had. The staff were so welcoming and friendly would defo come back again.

Where to even start, booked here for Mothers Day after looking online at the Sunday menu - no mention on the website of a Mother’s Day menu & don’t follow the Facebook page so just assumed it was the normal Sunday menu, well it wasn’t! Not the end of the world but a little disappointing. We ordered the roasts which were so disappointing, 5 hard carrots, 2 very thin slices of pork which were mostly fat, a huge pile of red cabbage (which no one ate as it was disgusting), 3 barely cooked roast potatoes & a cold Yorkshire pudding. Puddings were nice but we left hungry! Not what you expect when you’re paying £16.50 for a roast dinner. The children’s meals were fantastic & our whole party wished we had ordered off the kids menu! We asked for the service charge to be removed from the bill as service was not good - sat with finished plates on the table for 15 minutes & all the waitresses were miserable! Upon asking for it to be removed I got given daggers from the waitress & then they all stood around the till talking about us while removing the charge. I used to be a waitress & you’d have to work really hard to get a tip - you don’t just get a tip for doing your job! Had the service been good I’d of been more than happy to pay a service charge - but I would have still asked for it to be removed & would have left a cash tip on the table, but after that waitress’ reaction I’d of left nothing regardless! I will never return to The Mendip Inn - if you’re looking for quality food & good service head a few minutes up the road to The Castle of Comfort!

What a fantastic team at the mendip inn. We came up for Mother’s Day lunch, we had booked in advance as we were expecting it to be very busy and boy were we right! Food came out promptly and was delicious. We took advantage of the extra cauliflower cheese and was enjoyed by all. I will say on a side note that we could see all the team working extremely hard with the amount of guests that were in that day. It was clearly very very busy and the food was more than satisfactory we were more than happy to leave the 10% service charge and added more on top because the staff most certainly deserved it. Plus the doggy ice cream went down a treat!!

We went here for dinner and were called twice to say we couldn’t have a table even though we booked and confirmed through email. We then called back up and they said they had a table for us. We were then refused our 10%discount for nhs staff and they added on 10% for a staff tip! We then got up to leave and no one said Thankyou or goodbye and they turned the car park lights off where we all had to struggle in the pitch dark avoiding the horrendous pot holes. They knew exactly what they were doing and obviously didn’t know what customer service was.

We used to really enjoy going to the Mendip Inn but the food is definitely not what it used to be. Menu choices were limited, food mediocre at best and over priced. The pub itself was cold and service average. Wouldn’t recommend and won’t be returning any time soon.

Visit restaurant, service good apart from asking what you want as soon as sat down, cold in there sat around corne from fire other customers said they were cold. Food ok , specials pie and mash pie really nice mash salty(might be as we don't use a lot of salt o our own cooking) , Korean ribs nice over cooked corn on cob bite into them full of water., scampi chips ok small portion though. , overall not bad Staff friendly
