Great bakery/cafe. Everything looked very nice. Had lovely coffee and croissants. Took away an organic sourdough loaf. Interesting, roomy old church location.

Stumbled upon Rye on a very rainy and dreary Sunday and we’re so glad we did! Beautiful space. Bright and spacious, welcoming for families (small play area, kids menu), dog friendly with great coffee and really good bakes and cookies. We didn’t try the cooked food but wouldn’t hesitate to come back

I was in a bit of a rush for a train, so unable to enjoy my latté and cinnamon bun on the premises. However . . . I can confirm what others have said. The staff were efficient and smiley. The coffee and bun were top quality, if a tad expensive. Should I ever visit Frome again, I would most definitely return.

This was a lovely lunch in a lovely setting. The food here is outstanding and worth every penny! The pig check and hammock stew had a beautiful depth of flavour, as if it had been stewing for days. The cheese toastie had crusty bread with the perfect cheese pull. The pickles on the side were excellent and tangy! It’s tucked away in Frome but don’t miss out. Dogs are also welcome there as well.

Great service. The man behind the till was extremely helpful. The food was very tasty. It's a tad expensive, but you can respect the work that has gone into it and some creative flare in some of their pastry choices. The location is fantastic. It's definitely worth a visit if you are in town.

I ordered Bacon and Eggs. The bacon may well have been cooked the day before and then reheated. It was so hard and dry I could not eat it. I complained, they did offer to give me more but I didn’t want to risk it so I said no thanks. No one made any attempt at an apology. If I were the owner I would have been mortified to send food to a customer that was inedible.

A Delicious Experience in a Unique Setting ☕ The food at Rye Bakery Cafe was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I was so impressed that the owners preserved the church's character by keeping the pews and the organ. It created a unique and charming atmosphere. I'll definitely be back! We stopped here for lunch after hours trudging around looking for somewhere that wasn't packed, and for some reason made the poor decision to settle here despite the ridiculous pricing. Paying a staggering £9 for a bacon sandwich you would at least expect to receive a side salad but there was nothing of the sort provided - not a pleasing sight after waiting for almost an hour out in the rain and wind in a poorly maintained churchyard. At least it was reasonably nice, if not very greasy. As someone of esteemed taste I was expecting a more high-brow experience after walking in the door but walked out severely disappointed. Would not recommend unless you want to leave your wallet ransacked and your palate dissatisfied.

Really disappointed. The food was incredibly overpriced and overrated. The sausage rolls were so greasy and I have returned home feeling ill due to this. No almond in the advertised “almost croissant” and instead a bitter chocolate inside. Food incredibly heavy and stodgy. Coffee tasted weak and you get very minimal of it for your money. Overall, a disappointing experience.

We came with our 2 year old for a spur of the moment lunch. I'd been to the church cafe before and told my husband we could eat inside a nest which would be fun for our little one. There's also lots of toys as well so plenty to keep little hands busy. Not only is the cafe beautiful, the food was fantastic. At first I ordered soup as I thought it was the best gluten free option for me but my husband felt I needed something more and ordered me the beef stew which I didn't see on the menu before. I had to ask the staff to pass on my compliments to the kitchen because it was honestly the best beef stew I had had in a long time. Amazing flavour and the beef was so tender and delicious. If it's on the menu when you go, I can't recommend it enough. We had such a lovely time, that I decided to buy a card with a picture of the church from the art shop so that I could write to my mum and describe our day out - but I didn't mention that the stew surpassed hers!

We visited for the first time today - this during our first visit to Frome. We were made to feel welcome with our dog who is partially sighted; deaf, aged 14 and was transported in a dog buggy. A very friendly but professional female staff member served me. Nothing too much trouble and engaged in conversation with me about the running of the cafe/bakery. The Shakshouka was excellent! I purchased additional bakery items to take away including Al almond based pastry called a Blockley (I think). I thought I would share with my partner this evening but have already eaten most of it. I visited this businesses bakery yesterday, next door to the train station. I’m a self employed, VAT registered landscaper; it was nearing the end of a wet and stressful day; I’d just visited the nearby reclamation and so upon seeing this premises, I stopped to get a mocha and a pastry before the five mile drive back to Radstock where I’m based. I couldn’t fault the gentleman who served me; he was about my age (41) and very helpful, when I began chatting to him about the wine’s they sell there. However, as I finished my conversation about the wine and sat down inside to eat/drink, a young baker appeared at a counter to my right (I was looking outside). Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed him looking at me and his demeanour immediately left me feeling judged and unwelcome. I tried to ignore this behaviour and in an attempt to break the ice, once I finished my drink, I politely got his attention and handed him my empty disposable cup, thereby saving him or his colleagues a job tidying up after me but this character barely made eye contact, nor did he smile or take the hint and say thank you. For reasons best known to himself, it appeared to me that, for reasons best known to himself, he had earlier taken an instant dislike to me and he wasn’t prepared to budge. I’ll be honest, I’ve got much more important concerns than whether someone twenty years my junior, who reluctantly baked me a pastry, takes irrational issue with me because I’m evidently a tradesman and wearing dusty clothing or whatever else got this character’s back up but the experience left a really sour taste in my mouth, despite the quince pastry and the mocha and this was especially disappointing, given that I was a PAYING customer who hadn’t done anything to cause any reasonable concern. I thank the other, older gent for his hard work and service but I politely encourage management to discuss good manners and respect with the younger staff on site.

Stopped by for some lunch, soup ok, cheese toasty stodgy (the board said cheese and pickle but couldn't taste any pickle in the toasty , lots of rosemary) . Chocolate brownie so salty. All came in just under £20. As you walk in we couldn't see any menus so kind of just joined the queue and picked something off the board. Struggled with lots of unsupervised children running around which set dogs barking . Our dog then started barking. Told by a waiter to keep ours quiet... speak to every table then please....wasn't an easy place to relax. Toilet facilities need an update / fix up, hand dryer not working. Rye Bakery Friday night Pizza, opposite Frome Station, not the one in the old church! I ordered one of their very thin based, incredibly tasty, well made and presented Margheritas - as it was busy it took a bit longer than the 10-15 minutes I was told, but worth it. Of the drinks I chose the Barbera: the red wine choices were limited but James clearly knew his stuff. (I’d add a few others myself; a Primitivo &/or a Shiraz maybe?)
