A mixed stay for my birthday I'm afraid. The hotel stay was excellent and would rate it 5 stars. But unfortunately the food service for dinner and breakfast was very below standard which lowers the score. Hotel stay - check in was easy and our king size room was beautiful with everything you'd need. It was huge, comfortable and the spa bath was brilliant after a long day walking. We got the last of the sunshine so had a drink on the terrace which was lovely. Bed was very comfy so had a good night's sleep. Unfortunately it went downhill from there when we went to dinner. We both ordered the duck breast with fondant potatoes. When they arrived the skin was quite fatty and I found some bones in the duck breast. The potatoes were more sautéed cubes as opposed to fondant. We spoke to the manager about this as we were disappointed, they spoke to the chef and came back to say that we were wrong on both points. Which was disappointing as we weren't, we cook at home a lot. After some pushing we did get one of the meals for free, so that rectified it a bit for us. The dinner service wasn't great. Two tables had left when we first arrived and it took over an hour for their dirty plates and tables to be cleared, so not the best atmosphere. We fancied dessert as we were still hungry, so asked what cheeses were in the cheeseboard, and the waitress didn't know. She did go and find out, but it's a basic staff should know. Breakfast was also disappointing as both of our fried Egg yolks were hard and the sausages a bit overdone. The table next to us asked for no mushrooms on either plate and got them anyway. So you just get the feeling that the chef isn't interested, as it wasn't busy either. As I said the hotel itself and rooms are amazing, which had built up our expectations, but the food left us disappointed. If the food improved to match the rest of the hotel, this place could be exceptional.

If you're looking for a quick stop overnight then yes but not a quirky hotel . someone described it as an upper class premier inn and that's basically what it is . food was not 5 * quality although dog friendly didn't get meet as we have in other stays . Room bed not made properly with sheets , bath holes on side of the outside of the bath , shower leaked and sprayed everywhere . For me this hotel is ideal and was evident for those working away and a place to stay . hotel had a cold atmosphere about it . Would i go back No . nice local pubs 5-10 mins away where served good food . A lot of money to stay here for what you got tiny things i.e a bed that is made up properly goes a long way . Walls of rooms thin could hear everything doors banging

Positives: The room itself was recently refurbished and looked pleasant. Breakfast was served hot and pleasant. Major negatives: The bed sheets were not clean and appeared used!! We found hair on the pillows before we had used them and dirty stains on the sheets. If we hadn't checked in late due to an event we were at, we would have looked for somewhere else to stay. But, there were no staff and no where to go at 1.30am! I told the staff at reception in the morning, and all I got was 'I will feed that back to house keeping'. Slightly concerning that you are offering rooms to guests that have not been cleaned with new sheets and no offer of refund or compensation for providing a dirty room. Would definitely not recommend to anyone.

We came here for breakfast and dinner whilst at Camping down the road. Breakfast seemed expensive at £20 per head but we expected it due to Glastonbury being on. We came back for dinner which was really delicious. Curry night was £12!! So made up for the breakfast prices. The bar/restaurant area was very, very nice. Staff very friendly and welcoming. The rooms look nice as well. Would like to come back and stay.

Stopped while on business with 4 colleagues. The Crossways is well located and easy to find. The reception staff were pleasant and welcoming. Rooms were clean and spacious, with a good selection of hot beverages to make. The dinner was good and portions size quite large. The only hiccup was the waiting staff forgot to take our order and left us sitting for a very long time. However, they more than made up for the oversight. Thoroughly recommend staying.

Stayed here for work. Rooms were nice. A bit cold and took a while to heat due to the size. Loved the jacuzzi bath and the rainfall shower. Breakfast was really nice with a good hot menu and also good selection on the buffet. Staff on reception were rather dismissive. Felt they didn't have time for us in the morning. But over all a nice place to relax and recharge.

We had a lovely couple of days stay at the Crossways for a joint birthday celebration for my partner and myself. The room we had (I think the executive king) was great - loads if space, big open wardrobes, an enormous and extremely comfortable bed and a fantastic bathroom with both a huge walk in shower and a bath big enough for 2 with taps in the middle. The room had hairdryer, iron and ironing board, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and was lovely and warm when we arrived. As we had said it was a birthday trip, we had a bottle of Prosecco in the room on arrival, a lovely touch. We ate in the hotel on the first night we stayed and took advantage of the steak night offer - £16 for a 10oz rump or 8oz sirloin with amazing chips, onion rings, peas, salad, grilled tomato and mushroom plus a glass of wine or beer. Portion size was huge and it tasted great. The home made complimentary foccacia was also delicious. Breakfast on both morning was fab, with cereal and fruit being available, together with being able to order freshly cooked hot food from the menu - the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and the full English were both fresh and delicious. Finally a big mention to the staff at the Crossways who were all very friendly and extremely helpful. Thoroughly recommend for a stay in Somerset!

Went here with a group of friends for a pre Christmas get together. Very friendly welcome on arrival. Very good service and a manger who knew how good customer service works. Food was very good fresh and tasty. Only downside is they could do with a bigger car park but it's not a big problem as we parked on the street.

Big restaurant on the middle of Wells high street, lots of space inside but can still get VERY busy in the middle of a weekend. Parking is a bit tricky but location is perfect when hitting the shops
