I went to to Bath Christmas market on Saturday with two friends and we stopped at Costa for a bite to eat and coffees. One friend went to the toilet whilst I was ordering and the other secured a table downstairs. When I placed my order I was asked if I had a table, to which I replied ‘yes’. When I asked for help to take the food and drinks downstairs I was told I couldn’t take crockery downstairs for ‘health & safety’ reasons. I explained that when I ordered the food and drinks I was not told that crockery could not be taken downstairs. The girl then said she would speak to the manager and I was left standing at the sugar/waste bin area. No one came so I called over a man who was making coffees. He said I couldn’t take my purchases downstairs and eventually said he would help me but they would not be liable in the event if an accident!! By this time our toasted sandwiches had gone cold. When I pointed this out, he just apologised. There was only ONE toilet working which was down a long narrow flight of stairs. As we were leaving we noticed a lady with a walker who had somehow managed to negotiate the stairs as the disabled toilet was also out of action and the shop was rammed. It is just not good enough. When I spoke to the member of staff about it she was very sharp in her response saying she had reported the toilets out of action and they should be sorted on Monday!! That was by far the worst experience I have had at a Costa Coffee and cannot believe staff don’t make customers aware of the health & safety policy regarding the downstairs seating area and can legally provide food and drink to such a huge customer base and only provide the facility of one toilet and no disabled toilets- DISGUSTED!!

The food was reasonably priced. The guys was friendly. I had the hotdog and it was good. The brioche roll was toasted and the hotdog was juicy. Overall well recommended

I have a pet peeve against staff being dressed down in front of the public by management, but unfortunately that is what happened while we were at The Garrick. It doesn’t matter how good the food and drink is if you’re going to sit in complete discomfort after a grumpy manager has a very loud go at a young waitress just because she made a mistake. We don’t care about mistakes as we like being served by humans; we don’t like when bullies cause the same young girl to almost cry while being shouted at mere feet away from us while we try to enjoy our food (though I don’t think this should happen behind the scenes either, of course.) From reading another review, I see this is not a one-off incident. Not worth the awful atmosphere.

Whilst enjoying a day trip to Bath, my friend and I popped in for lunch. A previous review described the service as uncomfortable and I would totally agree. The guy who served me couldn't have been more disinterested if he'd tried. No smile, welcome, nothing! We had a wrap each and a tea. I had to ask for a serviette, as I couldn't find any. They were seemingly behind the counter, so we had not been given any !! Basic stuff really. I took a tray in from outside to make space for us to sit, the guy dispensing the teas/coffees was delightful and took the tray straight away " let me take that from you " Whilst probably a flow of customers were there, it was not unduly busy. The bland/apathetic attitude really soured the experience. I suggest the front of house staff, on this occasion has some training or perhaps looks for another job where he does not have face-to-face face customer contact as he is doing the business no favours. I will never return there !

wasn't a fan of the doughballs and the nachos, take em or leave em (leave em) but the lovely amelia was so patient and considerate in her service!!! she bore with me throughout my tipsy articulation of discounts and orders, and even came up with a wonderful virgin substitute for a baby Guinness!! had a gorgeous time, DONT order the dough balls.

Overall, our experience at Café Nero was disappointing. The tables were dirty and sticky, there was used cups/plates/cutlery in a large box next to the seating area, the café was cold, the atmosphere was dark and it looked run down. The toilets were disgusting; they smelt horrible and needed to be cleaned. Nonetheless, the upstairs seating seemed nice and the staff who served us were very welcoming and friendly.

On arrival to sit outside the table required cleaning. We asked the waiter if he could possibly clean the table (politely). He replied he was too busy. No other communication and never returned. We asked another waiter to wipe the table which he did but with one wipe. I live in Bath and proud of the city attractions. I was accompanied with friends from another part of the country. Not a great impression. Staff need to be trained not only in how to clean tables but how they interact with customers. Regrettably on this occasion it was poor!
