The Botanist in Bath and North East Somerset

Fuimos a tomar cócteles para celebrar despedida de soltera y no nos pudieron servir! Esperé más de media hora cuando todos los demás estaban siendo servidos. Un tipo, con cola de caballo estaba haciendo todo lo posible. Dos miembros del personal vinieron a ayudar, no preguntaron quién era el siguiente y fueron directamente a la izquierda. Si es Happy hour pon más personal o al menos personal capaz.

Si pudiera darle cero estrellas lo haría, en mi gallina lo haría y no podría ser servido!!! El personal era todo niños sin idea de cómo dirigir un bar! Absolutamente asqueroso, fuimos a The Cosy Club y fue increíble, hazte un favor y reserva en otro lugar

First impressions were not great as no one around to check us in. Dining is upstairs only (drinks and snacks downstairs) ambience is chilled and music a decent level. The acoustics are amplified thanks to the tall ceiling. Started with Arancini,(stone cold), Patata bravas (warm) and Korean wings (hot and excellent). Sent back the first two, Arancini came back cold again and Hassleback Bravas not much better-they both came in the what appeared to be the same tomato sauce? Asked and agreed a 20 minute break before mains-got 5 mins. I ordered a burger which was best described as cremated (although the buns were cold)-even the Manager agreed and ordered me another. This came back half way through my wife's Beetroot salad (fine and no complaints) but alas, slightly less burnt but burnt nonetheless-the bit I tasted that wasn't was in fact tasteless. The chips though were hot, crispy and just as you'd like them. No condiments on the table (and not asked for when mains came) so needed to make eye contact with a passing server-not easy as none of them are looking up to catch you. Asked for salt-3 different salt shakers on other tables, were empty. Drinks were hit and miss. Asked for G&T's, which were fine but took way too long to appear. Ordered a second single Gin and when it did arrive, came with a tonic (tbf, not charged for). Asked for a jug of water, finally got one on 3rd time of asking. When we looked over the edge to appraise the bar, there was only one barman working-there were c.30 people dining and I suspect all frustrated at not receiving their drinks quick enough-they must be losing a fortune. Leah, the server we had for our meal, was genuinely lovely, polite and was doing her best. Without asking, she took the food I had, off the bill-which saved me the ag of having that conversation later. I chose The Botanist on the back of Fred Sirieix and his passion for food. Has a lot to answer for! It's not somewhere I'd return to or recommend. It could be so much better with some staff training, drinks that come out at a decent pace and food that the people making it, and those serving it, are proud of. Until that happens, avoid this place as there are so many other great places to dine in Bath-sadly, this is not one of them.

Los entrantes de gambas picantes eran buenos, calamares buenos también. La lubina era agradable, pero el filete estaba bien hecho en lugar de medio raro y el plato podría haber hecho con algo de amor, claramente no tenía ninguno. Compartir dulce fue muy agradable y muy bien presentado. El servicio era muy bueno, la camarera era encantadora. Aún así, una buena experiencia, me gustó el lugar seguro... pero solo promedio en mi opinión, con el potencial de ser muy bueno con un poco más de amor dado al plato de carne y le he dado cuatro estrellas si esa parte era mejor.

A lovely bar and restaurant, we had a nice meal here . Good service and a good atmosphere . The roast was just standard, my hubby had the hanging kebab which he said was lovely .

El edificio es impresionante, el ambiente es único, y el bar, famoso por la televisión, era igual de impresionante en persona. La comida superó nuestras expectativas. Los calamares con salsa de algas y ciruelas eran increíbles, y el pollo con mayonesa de harissa era igualmente delicioso. Los platos principales estaban muy bien preparados, y los cócteles eran excelentes. El servicio fue cálido y atento, haciendo la noche extra especial. El Botánico es el lugar perfecto para una celebración, y no podemos esperar a volver!

Whilst the service was well meaning by lovely staff, the food was cold and undercooked. When we asked for the raw potatoes to be taken back to the kitchen; they were returned half eaten having clearly been warmed in the microwave for a few seconds. The steak was over cooked and the chips were cold. The set menu was not given to us until we asked and even then it was not clear what was available and the cost of the courses. Our food arrived at different times to each other and therefore we never truly ate together. An extremely disappointing experience.

Reservé este restaurante basado en el menú y el ambiente general del restaurante para mí y mi hija para pasar su cumpleaños número 24. Después de haber viajado durante tres horas un sábado nos emocionaba asistir a este aclamado restaurante , lamentablemente mientras nuestra reserva era para 2015 nos presentamos 10 minutos antes y nos dijeron que volviéramos más tarde , después de haber hecho eso volvimos y nos llevaron a nuestra mesa , dos horas después vimos mesas ir y venir , tuvimos nuestro inicio compartido después de una hora y nuestro plato principal estaba frío . He comido en algunos restaurantes fabulosos y el personal era joven y no tan dedicado a las mesas , creo que vimos una rotación de personal dos veces durante nuestra cena , habiendo esperado habernos salido del menú establecido no podíamos esperar a los postres , planteé una queja y para ser justos debieron reconocer el tema y recortar la factura en un 50 % lo que para ser justos con ellos era lo correcto . Nos fuimos sin embargo con una amarga decepción y en retrospectiva debería haber ido a The Ivy , una pena ya que el restaurante es muy atractivo y el ambiente es genial .

Vinimos al Botánico para mi comida de cumpleaños de 21 calles, y fue absolutamente increíble. Nuestra mesa no estaba lista de inmediato, que sé que a algunas personas les puede molestar, pero era un edificio tan hermoso y el personal era tan fantástico, que estábamos más que felices de tomar algunas bebidas en su bar y escuchar la música en vivo. El restaurante era absolutamente impresionante, el personal muy servicial y la comida era excelente. No soy local de la zona, pero me gustaría 100% volver a este restaurante de nuevo si estoy de vuelta en Bath.

Poor night after travelling quite far to visit waited 45 minutes for our starter to arrive The waitress apologised and said we were overlooked as they were busy but we will be let off the bill for our starters which was a good gesture but when the bill came they still charged us and only let us off a glass of Prosecco I didn’t make a fuss and just paid the bill as the girl serving was very apologetic but that night we spent £80 on food plus £45 on wine downstairs waiting for our table which was 10 minutes late Roy and Annette Holbrook

We arrived on time but no one was on reservation and waited 10 mins to be dealt with. We ordered the sharing skewers with pita bread, one of the meats was not available and when the meal arrived there was no pita bread. Ask the waitress for it and she went away never to be seen again. We asked a second waitress and she never came back either. Once we finished the meal we were about to order dessert and the fire alarm went off. But nobody move. Obviously a common occurrence. The waitress then said the kitchen was closed. 15 mins later they were serving again. But they would not take our order. So we just payed and left. If this was a good experience we would of stayed and had more drinks as place is lovely and the food was great, what we had of it.

Went for a couple of cocktails on a Saturday afternoon and we were able to sit by the bar without previous booking. Friendly staff, and prices are what you’d expect due to the First Date program. Worth a visit for sure!!

Very underwhelming, My daughter and I got there about 2.30, it was pretty quiet, tables were really small, not much room, dirty tables everywhere. The waiter was not too friendly and we waited about 15 before anyone came to take an order. I was amazed at the prices when we got our meals, I ordered a pork belly Kebab, it was pretty small and nothing special, my daughter had a burger, again, nothing special and two cocktails which were ok. Nobody came for about 15 mins after to ask us if we were ok/ wanted anything else, the I'll came in at around £67.00 including a service charge for over £7.00. The service was pretty terrible so I asked for it to be removed, another 10 mins. Toilets were in a state, seats missing, very badly fitted, black tape over sink. Very disappointed!

Excellent cocktails and even better service with a smile from Ella! Ella was really helpful and took time to explain the cocktails on offer!

We came to celebrate at friends 30th birthday and travelled from London for the evening. Frankie could not have done any more for us. Her service was beyond exceptional. She entertained us throughout the evening and even treated us to a special birthday candle at the end of the evening. Incredible employee who should be praised for her service. An absolute CREDIT to the business. Thank you Frankie for a fantastic evening.

We attended for Sunday lunch for a catch up. The food was not exactly cheap but tasty, service could have been more prompt, staff were friendly but a little inconsistent, small things were forgotten. The environment and ambience are excellent and the building that you dine in is very beautiful and unique.

We went for drinks on my nephews birthday where a girl called Ella recommend some cocktails to us, we tried them, they were great she was a delightful and the atmosphere was electric. Fantastic night

Quite honestly the tastiest vegan breakfast I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried a few….Plus they make a banging Bloody Mary!!

Sorry team, but we had a dire experience on Saturday (1st June). I'd popped in a couple days before and booked a table upstairs for dinner to celebrate the eternity ring I had bought for my wife. Came up from Weymouth, had dinner planned with you and then off to the Forum to watch House of Jo Jo. Appreciate you had a busy night, but we turned up nice and early, the drinks by the bar took forever - lots of customers were suffering similar to get drinks, staff stretched too thin. Having asked if our table was ready a couple times, we were told by staff that the group at the table upstairs were not going anywhere and our table would not be available to us. The staff offered a tiny table in the bar area, not suitable for dinner at all and we were told it was that or nothing. So we chose to leave. Very poor, spoiled our celebration. Busy or not, large group or not, you take dinner bookings and you would understandably complain if folk didn't turn up. It works the other way around too, you have to ensure you honour your bookings, you could have moved the group down to the bar to allow us (and possible others to take our dining tables), no excuses. We've had lots of great evenings at the Botanist in Bristol, expected better from the team in Bath.

Terrible service.my daughter booked this for my 70th.sat for an hour after ordering a bottle of wine.the waitress was more interested in serving the hen partys.never got the wine or a menu.

It was my wife’s birthday - we invited friends up from Kent - we were promised the conservatory but instead got what can only be described as a corridor. When we arrived we waited about 30 mins to get a drink - then as we had to pre order food it arrived before our first drink. Four of the dishes had to be sent back as they were not edible. I emailed the team at the restaurant to give feedback and heard nothing.

I’ve visited the botanist in bath twice, and each time has been fab. The food has been very good with each visit and the staff have been lovely. My second visit, which was today, was just as good as my previous visit - we ordered a cheese burger and chicken burger as well as 2 of their cookie dough desserts (Oreo and s’mores) all was well cooked and very tasty, the waitress was wonderful and very friendly and our table was wonderfully positioned in the balcony overlooking the bar below. We went at peak service time and it was very busy but we didn’t have any issues with wait time nor drinks. Already Looking forward to a return visit. Thank you to the botanist in Bath and the lovely lady who served us.

The food was ok for the price and service was fine but the NOISE was intolerable!! Unfortunately this exquisite room’s acoustics couldn’t cope with all the general noise of a restaurant plus live music (which happened to be very good but not in this room)!

Had the Sunday roast which was ok but the actual building is in need of a total redecoration it’s appalling and dirty,the toilet cubicle had a collection of people’s nose pickings on the walls.Never will we go there again 🤮

Excellent service food really good nothing to much trouble. Atmosphere very chilled . Waiter Jamie was especially good to us all, a genuine nice man who was very good at his job.

Food was fab but everything else was chaos. Waiting over an hour for a starter, then a long wait for mains. One persons main didn’t come out until everybody else had already finished. Ate our starters without cutlery and asked for things a couple of times which weren’t brought out. Chaotic and not enjoyable, but food was good!

We reserved a table over a month before our visit and specifically asked for a downstairs table as my partner is hard of hearing and the acoustics of this beautiful venue make it more challenging to hear. On arrival we were told there wasn't a downstairs table available but that we'd have a "better dining experience " upstairs. We were sat next to the corridor to the toilets and serving area so there was a constant stream of people rushing by. We ordered a glass of wine and a pint of Guinness and didn't receive these at all. When I said we wanted our bill and mentioned that we hadn't received our drinks the waitress apologised and said "I've checked with my manager and we have taken them off the bill"! To which I replied I should hope so! We ordered a veggie noodle salad and a caesar salad which were very disappointing. The veggie noodle salad had some sort of quorn nuggets which seemed to have been deep fried and reheated. The caeser salad had lumps of stale baguette instead of croutons and dry chicken. I am not someone who complains about restaurants but this was so disappointing. I have visited other Botanists and just a completely different experience. Avoid at all costs!

Lovely building . Welcome a touch abrupt and average. The staff knowledge of ingredients etc is non - existent. The food was fine no better than expected , although the garlic bread was good. Is there any eatery that doesn’t have toothpicks or similar to aid the eating of olives - other than this one ? The pre-order of drink seems irrelevant as no-one knew and the time to deliver suggested it wasn’t recorded. The vibe is good and enjoyable , but that is about it - maybe just go for an after work drink

Perfect service from Hisha, such a bubbly personality, excellent customer service, looked after me and my friends. Absolutely will be coming again! 10/10!

Was excited to go and see the bar where First Dates is filmed. Sat down and browsed the menu. Went to the bar and only 2 people serving. The young man acknowledged us , but was too intent on having conversations with other members of staff. The young girl didn’t acknowledge us, but was busy serving drinks. After standing at the bar observing the young man deep in conversation with another member of staff, we finally gave up and went to another bar. Will not be trying a return visit

Food was good, very disappointed with the team. Asked to be move table,we were told they were all booked - this was 5 o'clock..by 6:30 they were still empty. Dinner arrived food was good, plates were like they came from the fridge. We had five different servers who were poor.Offered cocktails, however wouldn't recommend for a romantic meal

Food was great, service not great asked for a drink after dinner in never came, then finally got a waitress to give me the bill and the drink I never had was on it, it got sorted but spent far too much time waiting to be served.

Slow service on drinks,food arrived first,mezzanine floor to the toilets is epic and not suitable for everyone, starters are overpriced, stingy,and boring,best main is the hanging meat kebabs,but they only give you one wrap,come in guys enough meat to fill atleast 2,what would that cost,left feeling hungry and £200 light in the pocket,not a good experience for a special occasion, better restaurants out there,dont go for the trendy name guys, look around, wouldn't return unless offered an incentive to do so. 1

We had a sharing hanging kebab. The, humus, meat, prawns and bread were all tasty. Oh boy! The cocktails were wow-fab-groovy. One waiter was rude. The others won a prize for being helpful. The service collectively was patchy. I must admit that the ambience is fun. I certainly would love to go back.
