The West Gate Public House in Bath and North East Somerset

Maybe it was just ‘one of those days’ Disappointing, although I accept that not every establishment serves Earl Grey tea. However, I’m astonished that this pub didn’t serve decaffeinated coffee either. Thankfully (?) water was available. The meal: I was hungry so I ate the cardboard masquerading as a toastie. I have no idea who in my group complained on my behalf which resulted in me being offered a refund. As I’d eaten it, I declined. It seems Greene King are going through difficult times.

We had our wedding reception here and also my 60th. The staff are very thought, attentive and listening to our needs. We had the whole of the downstairs and was arranged how we wanted it. Communication is very good. We were able to talk to them throughout the day. The prices are fair. Food delicious. They never let us down. As this was their venue, I would highly recommend The Westgate for any functions. Nathan and your team you did us proud.

After a rather long travel day to Bath we happened upon the West Gate Pub (which is part of the Greene King group) when we were doing a walkabout in town. It is a great place to drop in for a pint or two. The service here is great!. Cheers!

Very helpful and polite staff, followed instructions for food requirements and changes to items on menu we wanted, comfortable pleasant pub, food was awesome, well cooked, very tasty and enjoyable, will be going back again tonight for a meal, only disappointment was no Flint Eye lager as they’d sold out, but Peroni went down just as well. Woukd recommend this pub five stars!

Food was good but cold. The service was slow and some obvious needs like cleaning tables when customers sat down never happened or was very delayed.

Awful. Went in for a pint. 3 staff about. All could see there were us and 3 other customers waiting at the bar. No acknowledgement, eye contact or offer to find someone to serve at the bar. We left and went to the Grape down the road which was nicer anyway. First time I've been moved to review somewhere

Just popped in for a few Guiness. Few students are there due to the start of a new term. Guiness was fair. Down stairs gents toilets require some work, and the stairs are quite steep.

Was down for family’s first day at university in bath made us all feel welcome in the area very friendly team and amazing atmosphere not badly priced great for new uni students and anyone passing through

£3.55 for half a pint of draft coke is outrageous; my friend's cider was cheaper! At that price I'd have at least expected clean toilets and loo roll. Despite pointing out the lack of loo roll to the staff, it was still lacking an hour later. The bar upstairs wasn't open on a Saturday night, yet it was loaded with dirty glasses. Pretty grim place overall unfortunately.

We popped in here for a nice spot of lunch. My husband had steak, fries and roasted cherry tomatoes with a merlot sauce, I had chicken breast in bar-b-q sauce, topped with cheese and Crispy onions bits, served with fries and roasted cherry tomatoes..... Husbands came out 5 small fingers of steak, (steak was already sliced for some reason) with a handful of fries and 4 tiny roasted cherry tomato's this cost £18.00 and had to ask for the sauce as was forgotten, (also this sauce was extra so took his meal to £20.00) My chicken dish had been heated in the microwave.... I could tell this as the smallest end of the chicken breast was hard and I couldn't put through it. Served with again a handful of fries and 3 tiny cherry tomato's this meal cost £15.00 The food was such a let down, we had been out early and was really looking forward to a noce pub lunch as Green King pubs are usually great value for money and the food is lovely. I wouldn't ever go their again and definitely never recommend you.

This evening i visited the wastage and was served by Sam, Rosabel and Maia. The service was excellent i attended alone and they must have assumed i was sad and lonely, im not. But regardless they treated me as though i had known them for years, as though we had served together in the trenches of verdun. The drinks are as amazing as the three mentioned and i truly hope promotions or bonuses are in their futures

My wife and I were out shopping one Saturday and had some time to kill so we decided to eat here for lunch. Drinks were very expensive but the food was ok, my wife had the Mac and Cheese and I had the steak and kidney pudding both came out fairly quickly and were nice and hot. We were told by the barman that we had timed it right as they had a party of 30+ schools kids coming soon and then the food wait would be 40 mins, which seems a bit ridiculous bearing in mind there were not that many people eating at the time. So I would ask what the wait time is before ordering.

Our group of friends had dinner at your establishment on Saturday. The service was unacceptably slow, despite the fact that the restaurant did not appear to be busy. One member of our party did not receive her food until everyone else had nearly finished eating. When she inquired about the delay and presented her online order and payment confirmation, the staff member made her feel as though she was lying. She was then told that she would have to wait because another table had just ordered. Although she did receive her food before the other table, this was only because we insisted that she had paid for her meal well before they had arrived. Two other members of our party were waiting for their drinks, and when we brought this to the attention of a staff member, he argued with us, insisting that he had made the drinks. After an awkward few minutes, he finally produced the drinks. To top off the evening, one of our party members became stuck in the restroom and was only able to get help by sending a message for assistance. When she finally managed to get out of the restroom, she informed a staff member of the situation, who responded with a dismissive "Oh well, you're out now. What do you want me to do about it?" Needless to say, we did not stay for dessert or additional drinks. We left and found a much more hospitable establishment.

4 of us ate...Dissapointed by my Chicken BLT. Defo wasn't plum tomatoes, just tomatoes cut in half..when you bite into eat, the tomatoes just fell out. Chicken and Bacon cold. Good points...Sam the Server was brilliant and asset to your pub.

Chef Tahvo made the best katsu burger I’ve ever had! The service was great; the server (Rosabel I believe???) was so friendly and the price was even better! Will definitely be returning

Haven't been to Bath before but when I came down to visit a friend the recommended this pub, came in and was greater by Lee I then went to the bar to see the lovely lay out, Lee had great product knowledge and was able to have a good chat with him as he made our drinks. One of the nest bartenders I've met in a while. As the night went on I was feeling like having a cocktail, I noticed they had some on there menu and headed to the bar where a young lady served me, I asked if she was able to make me a old fashion, she didn't hesitate to make one as she was able to walk me through her selections of whiskys. As she was making it she really showed her knowledge, i was very impressed with this. Definitely had to tip her! Sorry I didn't get your name as I would have added it to this review!! Definitely will come again as the food looked amazing and the atmosphere was great Look forward to seeing the lady behind the bar again and get her name this time.

Had a lovely experience here on Sunday afternoon for lunch. I had a steak and ale pie while my partner had one of their roast dinners, the food arrived hot and in good time. Everything was delicious and there was too much on the plate for either of us to finish! The staff were very accommodating and couldn’t do enough for us in-spite of the pub seeming busy so hats off to them! Would definitely come again and i recommend. 10/10

Great spot in the heart of Bath! Right near the Abbey and Roman Baths so after our tour we managed to grab food real quick! I had the fish and chips and my partner the steak and ale pie, both of which were stunning! Will definitely come by again when I next come to visit!

The Westgate is a solid spot for a casual night out. The atmosphere is cosy, with a decent selection of drinks and typical pub fare that hits the spot. A standout during my visit was the staff, especially Sam, who was incredibly friendly, polite, and helpful. His attentive service really made the experience enjoyable.

Great lively pub for a feed and a drink. Sam made sure we were well looked after and the staff in general were very nice. Plenty of drink options and some classic pub feeds.

Handy location, spacious seating and comfortable but food was slow to arrive and rubbish/revolting, particularly the pies and scampi. Don’t go here if hoping for a nice meal. The kind of junk you expect at a tourist trap. Really regret coming here for lunch. Avoid unless just want a drink and somewhere to rest.

Bought 2 pints of peroni on our visit to bath. Tastes absolutely awful. Really cloudy and tastes like lines haven't been cleaned. Won't be visiting this pub again

Asked for IPA shandy but told it was not good as a shandy and to pick something else????ordered food which was overpriced,the chicken was so overcooked couldn't get fork in it,sauce was dried up ,handful of chips,really poor meal.toilets stinking ! Don't bother.

Halloumi fries side plate were lovely. Then Steak and Ale Pie. Large pie. Very tasty. Great service from Sam. My Husband had BBQ chicken. Also very tasty. Good value meal.

Waited too long for mediocre food and service. Chicken was obviously from frozen. Looked like scraps on a plate. Never received the refund I requested.

Took a seat and was served at all despite the staff going by multiple times. Oh well, I guess my money will go to other businesses. As for this one, they better change their attitude if they want to keep up a good reputation.

We went into the Westgate pub for lunch and found it to be quite a lovely old pub in the centre of Bath. The food was reasonably priced and of good quality and quantity. We must give a shout to Sam the barman who put up with my jokes and also served excellent beer with good humour. Must go there again on our next visit to Bath.

Disappointment!!! chicken Wings, Trio Fries, Cheeseburger, Mac&Cheese, usually safe bets, what can go wrong? Terrible quality, main courses only came after reminding the staff. If you go there, stick to drinks!

Came to bath for a training day for work and decided to pop in here for lunch. the food was amazing and the staff were super friendly. Decided to come back at the end of the say for a beer.

Was a nice pub. However, refused a Citizen Card (a valid form of ID).

Good selection of drinks plenty of seating available located in the city centre handy for the abbey and Roman baths.

Here every week, staff are always very friendly and reserve a table for us. Lauren helped us swap around this week.

Liv who works on the bar was great,being 4 of us and 2 that were big cider drinkers. liv showed us all the ciders that they served on tap even with a little sample of some which certainly persuade them. Best customer service in Bath made us welcome and comfortable well worth the visit the westgate

A shame it's gotten so expensive. They used to have an excellent selection of real ales, but it's all for gassy beer now.

Worst pub food ever and service was no better. One person working waited over 10 mins while she was walking round pub on phone. Ordered BLT sandwich cold and bread hard Ordered Steak Sandwich with fries all cold bread hard Very expensive as food was inedible Paid over £30 for a Guinness & G&T as did not eat food. Told member of staff what I thought of the food and she smiled and said I will tell the kitchen. I would avoid this pub at all costs.
