It was busy though it looked like there were wedding guests and parties in there so bad time to visit on our part. This meant that there was a 40 min delay on food which would have been good to know on entry to the pub but we were not told until after we ordered. Food was delicious and staff were friendly

Looking for a place for our family to have dinner after visiting the Roman Baths. It was between here and one other. So glad we chose The West Gate! The Small Plates were amazing! Sticky Chicken was delicious as were the Cod Gonjons. Highly recommended if you are in Bath!

I didn’t order any food so I can’t make any comments about it other than everyone else in the pub appeared to be happily eating something. The menu has many options. The place is very large inside so it’s a good choice for larger gatherings. There’s a variety of beers available and a selection of ciders. Also important “comfortable chairs”.

Hi, unfortunately I was left disappointed with my most recent experience. I have had nice experiences before but I was left disappointed this time. The staff are very friendly and I appreciated the prompt service. However, I was left disappointed with the food. I was hungry and ordered a steak and chips with some sauce. It cost around £20.00. When I received my meal, it was far too small. At first, I thought it was a mistake; as I did not order a starter but this was my meal. My friend just ordered a portion of chips for 3.50 and his portion was much bigger than my portion of chips. So my streak was basically £17.00. Credit where credit is due It was delicious, but far too small. The waiter asked If he could help. I said the meal is small. He said that is the portion everyone gets. I noticed someone else bought the same thing and they were unhappy with their portion size. I was expecting a portion literally twice the size when compared to other pub meals I have had for that price. It would have been better if the waiter took my plate and added more food to it or had given me 50% off. It could have done with a few big tomatoes and mushrooms with some baked beans or something. Just to fill it up. I ate it all but I left hungry. That was very frustrating as I am usually stuffed after a pub steak and chips. I noticed there was no steak weight size on the menu. There should be. I purchased it out of faith but they got the portion size completely wrong. Maybe they need to reduce the quality of the meat a bit in exchange for more quantity or something. It was just really frustrating as there were many better deals out there and I chose the wrong 1. The fish and chips looked generous. There should really be some warning of the steak size as it just seemed like a scam and a rip off. Hopefully someone will see this message and make the necessary corrections and maybe I'll change my perspective of the place. Watch out.

Excellent location, wonderful service! We ordered Sunday Roast with Beef and Chips. Great taste, also Sam was super helpful when serving with a great smile which makes the Bath experience much better in a sunny weather!

A group of us went for lunch at the Westgate, Bath to celebrate a friends 50th. We could not fault the food and service and the waitress went above and beyond. Our table wasn’t ready for us on arrival, but that was compensated with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, totally unexpected and a lovely gesture as we were more than happy with our table upstairs. If I was to have one piece of negative feedback that would be to have more staff being the bar. There was only one chap who had a queue of people waiting whilst we paid our bills. I felt quite sorry for him, put he kept a smile on his face. I’ll definitely go back to this lovely Coaching Inn x

Nice pub in central bath good food options

The food we ordered was just okay. I don’t like leaving meh reviews but that’s how we felt leaving. The atmosphere was great and everyone was very kind. Good: The mac and cheese was good (I would hope for 12 pounds). The fish and chips were decent. Not Great: We ordered the steak and ale pie - this tasted like beef stew in bread with minimal beef chunks. The burger was underwhelming and didn’t have a lot of flavor. The night before we ate up the street at a different pub and the food was so flavorful and better. After that, our expectations were high.

More of a student pub - wanted a roast dinner but nothing left.

I visited west gate today the food was fantastic and not over priced . If you’re a sports fan there are plenty on tvs. The staff were brilliant and a tentative. Thanks to Sam. Jess. Nathan. And the two chefs. Tahvo and Liam 👍

We always go to The West Gate for meals when in Bath. Very friendly, lovely variety of meals and excellent service.

We found a place to eat, but the waiters are not clear, some say that you have to place the order through the app and others that it is not necessary. The truth is that it took us a long time to place the order (impossible because of the app) and then it took them forever to bring the food, which was not the best, but it was eatable. If you like tranquility that is not the place because they have TV to watch sports. Anyway, I don't recommend it unless you don't have a choice.

What a great find! Whilst visiting Bath for the Rugby in the town centre. It has a really nice, relaxed bar vibe. Very welcoming staff, Nathan in particular was brilliant, and looked after us so well. A return trip is definitely on the cards! Thank you!

Came here after a work meeting with a friend. Enjoyed a lovely glass of rose and their small plates - a wonderful find, that was reasonably priced and beautiful quality. Lee the manager made us feel welcome, as did Nathan and Abi. Couldn’t recommend more, will be coming back!

Attended Bath Salsa classes uptairs years ago, floor was wonky but a great time always.

Both nights we visited this pub (Wednesday and Thursday) the pub was full of young students who came in droves causing a delay on bar service whilst each student bought themselves only a drink and had their ID checked. They then visited a room upstairs where other students were until that is the pub managers went up and cleared them out! However, about 30 minutes later another group of students came and the whole process started again. If I want to go for a drink in Bath next time I will go to a proper pub and one that is not a kindergarten!

Without a doubt the best pub in Bath. Actually, the best pub in the world. So much so they walked across the Atlantic Ocean like Jesus himself to hand deliver me a Westgate Wobbler as I was craving my fix whilst studying in America (thank you Bhanavi). Of course, this is quite a substantial ask on my part so I promise to return to Bath soon to make my next order a little easier for the wonderful staff. If you need a cosy pub in the heart of Bath with delicious food, a great selection of drinks to keep things exciting, warm and friendly service and all round good vibes…well this is it. I couldn’t imagine wanting to visit anywhere other than The Westgate.

I never normally leave 5 star reviews. However this service was impeccable. Served by a lovely lady and man, I think their names were Abi and Vince. Extremely friendly and welcoming service, lovely drinks, and amazing food, 10/10. Will definitely return soon.

I came into the Westgate last week and had a wonderful experience. I was served by a young man called Vincent who was extremely attentive and polite; it made our experience that much better to have a lovely waiter. Atmosphere was really nice and my family and I will definitely be returning in the new year!
