Amarone in brief, is a near perfect pre- theatre dinner spot.
Went for dinner here with a friend. We had the burratta and beef croquettes to start.
The bursts was rich and creamy, and I thoroughly enjoyed the aubergine and pine nut base. It can be very tiring just having it served on a bed of salad with a few tomatoes. Points for uniqueness.
The beef croquettes were crispy and meaty. I would have liked them to appear more cylindrical, as currently they look more like aranchini balls.
For my main I had the Rigatoni all’Amatriciana which was enjoyable. It had a nice strong salty pork flavour via the guancale, which was balanced by the white cream sauce. Pasta was cooked to perfection.
I think the let down here is not with the food or the service, but the decor. I think the room is a bit dark, and I also think the photos of Elvis etc are a bit out of place in an Italian.
Right next door to the theatre, so great for pre theatre dinner.
19-21 Cathedral Yard, City Centre, Exeter EX1 1HB, United Kingdom, England
Fantastic food with a gorgeous view of the cathedral. The price fixe menu is very well priced, especially considering the high quality of every dish. We shall return!
Returned three months later. Still fantastic!
Good customer service, great outdoor location perfect to bring along the dog. Food OK, but cauliflower bowl, with jerk chicken was burned. Good food, just burnt, I think perhaps due to it being very busy.
Such a shame - Tuesday lunch time, an empty restaurant and despite tables being available we rather keep it empty, as we don’t allow a Well behaved Cocker Spaniel. Hospitality at its finest! I look around Port Isaac and kind of everyone has a dog… and everywhere else it’s busy… I would perhaps suggest to restrict such strict policies for dinner. Anyway… onwards!
Great service from Caitilin and Callum. Come to Plymouth from Birmingham and it was honestly a great evening with my boyfriend. Deffo will be returning!
Good music, good drinks, good vibe (even though we was the only people in there)! 😂😎
Really nice brunch spot, great value. Some really nice sandwich combinations. Full English with a coffee or tea for 15 pound. Portion size was maybe a little small but excellent flavour.
Lots of local art on the walls, makes a very nice atmosphere. Some of the tables are a bit close to the coffee bar so they can be a bit noisy, so if you can opt for a table outside in the sun or by the window.
If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience during your holiday, look no further! We were so impressed with our first visit on Tuesday evening that we had to come back before heading home. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, which made dining with our 20-month-old a lot easier. I indulged in the pulled pork burger and my partner had the hot dog, and I must say, it was one of the best burgers I've ever had! The flavors were exceptional. Upon returning on Thursday evening, we were welcomed warmly once again. I opted for the blue cheese burger this time, while my partner enjoyed a delicious lasagna. Both meals were outstanding, I can't recommend this place enough! If you find yourself in the area and craving excellent food paired with amazing service, this is the spot! A solid 10 out of 10!
So we have lived here for a few years and Papa’s has always had a good reputation and today we really fancied Fish n chips.
We waited politely at the “wait to be seated” sign and were studiously ignored by a tall blond lady chatting with a small woman in a black trilby.
When they were good and done with their discussion we were crammed into a corner and given menus.
It doesn’t take long to be honest, does it, to chose your meal but when we asked if we could order we were told that we were “in a queue”. The restaurant was fairly empty at this point.
The table behind us also heard this retort and we exchanged glances and chatted about how odd the whole vibe was, snarly and decidedly unfriendly.
We’d already got a bad feeling so probably ordered less than we may have. The food came fairly fast and was very generous and the fish was nice, well cooked with good home made chips .
But the waitresses were so snarly and straight faced and unpleasant it kinda ruined the whole experience. I heard her with some tourists who wanted to share a meal and wanted to go and apologise for our country and its rudeness.
Next I heard the small one snap at a table of ladies saying “I told you that wasn’t included” and watched them share an awkward look.
We finished, paid and no-one asked if the meal was OK, or if we’d like anything else, they just are not interested at all.
The food is pretty good but I would REALLY avoid eating in as the service here is so cold and unpleasant- it is really uncomfortable and for £43 I honestly don’t think a smile or a thank you is too much to ask?
Or better still choose another as there’s plenty of place who might appreciate our trade.
Amazing view. Al fresco dining with unsurpassed views from The Lizard. Always see a seal or two to put the icing on the cake. Have visted often and always have the vegetable lasagne - absolutely delicious. Others have had the burgers, fish and fish medley and am told the crab sandwich is very good. So sorry to hear it is closing this week. Hope whoever takes over doesn't try to change it too much. As it is, it offers great food at good price, lovely staff and has a reputation to support this with a location that cannot be beaten. It's family friendly, food is served swiftly and never disappoints - and who could want more whilst gazing over the blue Atlantic. Good luck to the present proprietors in their retirement.
Absolutely terrific restaurant in Carbis Bay very close to St Ives. Visited tonight with my wife and 3 year old son.
First impressions were great, they have a lovely outside seating area, and inside the place is adorned with stuff to nail down the fact that you are in a Spanish restaurant. Really nicely done.
Service was brilliant, very chatty and friendly, and fast.
Food wise:
We had bread plate and some anchovies to start, then the lad had chicken strips, chips and salad. Loved it. Well - not the salad but that’s not the fault of the restaurant, he isn’t a fan of green food unless it’s peas or grapes. Then we have various Tapas dishes. Patatas Bravas, Chargrilled Steak, Chicken Panko, Tomato Salad, fried squid. Then we all shared some Churros and that very typical Spanish dessert….Eton Mess! Not that we were complaining, it’s my wife’s favourite dessert.
All the food was superb. Brilliant meal. Really enjoyed it.
Myself and two friends visited impromptu and were delighted at the speed of service and the politeness of all the staff. Our hostess was Jasmine and she did fantastic throughout. Ensured everything was to our liking and was very knowledgeable when asked questions about the food and drink. For the quality and portion sizes the costs are more than justified. Delightful evening!
Booked the Old Sail Loft in March for our visit over Easter, booking was confirmed, and we thought all was well when we set off from Manchester to make the 5 hour journey down to Lovely Looe...It wasn't until the day before our reservation that we noticed it was closed and a non-informative message scribbled on a blackboard outside about it being closed. I emailed the owner to check whether or not our reservation was going to happen the following night, only to receive an abrupt response saying no it wasn't...!?!?! No apology or alternative...?
So basically, If i hadn't been there the day before we would've turned up to an empty/closed restaurant as they didn't have the common decency to let us know...In times of economic troubles this isn't how i would run a business if i was trying to attract returning customers...
Bad practice all round...
Lovely restaurant situated on the canal side with plenty of paid for parking nearby. The staff were welcoming and attentive during our visit. We didn’t eat a full meal on this occasion but the food being served to others looked very good. The cakes we had were yummy and good value. With seating inside and out, it’s worth a try.
