Pappas in North Somerset

Not been to Papa's for a while before visiting lunch time today. Not too busy for a Thursday. The food is still excellent, served piping hot and in good time. We had the 'Seniors Special' which was a good sized piece of cod, plenty of chips and also included a buttered roll and hot drink. The prices are keen and the service is friendly and good. Recommended.

The restaurant has a warm atmosphere well laid out table and chairs and a good selection of different fish on their menu, some you can’t choose at other restaurants . Staff friendly and helpful.

Went in for early dinner staff friendly enough and as only three of us took are order quickly as a large group was heading in nice thought. As seniors you can order a fish and chips with drink, dont. The portion was not good and not up to the quality of the main meal pay a few bob more and not get a scrag end of fish.

What a shame about the waitress/poor customer service! It’s been said in many of the previous reviews about the poor customer service but quite clearly nothing has changed. I took my elderly mum. The waitress (petite with a very large hat) was extremely rude and quite incompetent. Brought a meal out to my mum who was extremely hungry so started to eat some of the chips, only to have it took away by the same waitress and given to another table even though we said mum had touched it! I couldn’t quite believe my eyes! Someone like this should not be front of house. The food was good but I would be reluctant to return given the poor service. We felt like we weren’t welcome which was not the experience I was hoping for. I don’t usually write reviews as I normally can’t be bothered but this definitely needed to be pointed out. Please change or retrain some of your staff!!

Service was horrendous, waitress not interested, no dialogue, overpriced, maianaise served in a refilled dirty Heinze bottle, definitely not filled with Heinze, £39 two meals and two drinks, overpriced, when we paid no conversation at all, definitely won't be going back, use to be very good a few years ago, must be new owners, avoid

Quite a long wait here and they certainly weren’t busy. I asked where my fish and chips had got to and it then arrived promptly (it was very quiet in there!) No criticism of the quality and cooking but it was one of the smallest pieces of cod I’ve seen - the price was £16.45. I had equally good fish and chips in South Bucks two months ago and it was £11.90. I can’t see why this was so pricey. I was hungry and in a rush so I paid.

the fish was excellent.I would have expected peas to be included in the price.The drinks are very expensive.You had to ask for tartare sauce which should have come with the meal.

We live in WSM and love the food in Papa's with the best fish and chips in town but the tall waitress with an eastern European accent is so rude and abrupt and really should not be working in a customer related job. We have stopped eating in because of her poor attitude but went there today for lunch with family and she's still as rude as she ever was. Such a shame because all the other staff are so nice!!!

Best fish and chips I’ve had in years… found it by accident as it’s a bit off the beaten track, but WOW!…. Food just superb and interesting history, photos and artefacts.

Food is fine; service very poor though. 5 of us were booked in for a meal a few nights ago & were seated straight away, however the 2 women serving the tables are extremely abrupt & rude, especially the tall one taking the order. Both are from abroad & it nots a language barrier thing as they spoke English, it was just very direct talking & body language with no sort of pleasant customer interaction whatsoever. Extremely abrupt. When food did arrive at table the woman taking orders had missed off a meal (probably because in the way she was doing things & not properly listening instead just hurrying people along as quickly as possible) so my friend ended up eating at a different time than the rest of us as that had to be rectified. Second woman, wearing gloves & mask, was abrupt too when sorting out the missing meal - wasn't any apology at all for this, just shot off to get more grub. When paying the bill at the end & taking our money, no real "thanks alot, hope all ok, look forward to seeing you again" etc - just a sort of put in your pin number, you want a receipt, walk away... Just extremely poor people & service skills from the staff here. Worst was to come before we all left - when finishing off our drinks, the tall female staff member shot over to us, leaning straight across myself & put her fingers in my friends wine to take the glasses away before she'd even finished the drink ! (Again, this due to keep rushing things & not waiting). didn't really apologize, more that they'll replace it, but quite frankly we'd all had enough of the very cold & brash approach from the staff so just decided to get up & leave - that's what the 2 women wanted I think so they could get us out as quickly as possible to reuse the table for more money generators, sorry I mean customers! (yes, we were paying customers - you had over £100 out of our group - not that we were really treated like that though). Food was fine, staff are not very nice. Would therefore put me off using this restaurant again in the future. Will take my business elsewhere.

We arrived at this restaurant at 8 o'clock in the evening and the first thing that the abrupt waitress said to us was that they were closing in 45 minutes. No other greeting than that. We go to Papa's when were are in Weston Super Mare and the food is generally good but the waiting staff are always off hand. There is one in particular, a tall woman with a ponytail and a foreign accent, she is always abrupt and unhelpful and everything is an effort for her. There's lots of other fish and chip restaurants so Papa's you need to get some nice, welcoming and helping waiting staff in and get rid of the bad ones, they are damaging your business!!!!

Good old fashioned fish and chips - proper chips not the frozen type. Was very nice tasting but the large fish was really thin and consequently dry on the 1 end. It's a bit more expensive than my local chippy which is fine, but this fact there was an inedible bit at the end of the fish means it's 4 not 5 for me. Staff were friendly. I'd go back and give it another try as we may have just been unlucky with our cod.

We hadn't had fish & chips from Papas for sometime and decided to buy from here on our way home from work on Thursday evening. What can we say. The poorest serving of fish & chips we have bought in Weston-super-Mare. Very very small fish and overcooked chips. Not an enjoyable meal. Sooooo disappointing. So many fish bars to choose from in the local area why would you serve a poor product to your customers. We won't be returning to Papas.

We attended Papa’s as an older couple with our 2 young grandchildren for supper after school on Friday, 20th October 2023, having taken them there as a treat as we live in Weston s Mare. We were met by a tall lady who definitely had a personality malfunction without a degree of friendly manner likely to encourage anyone to return. The other two young ladies were attentive to our needs, and certainly put this older women to shame. The product we were served with were no better than any other fish & chip shop in this locality, so i would recommend you go elsewhere if you want better value for money. All in all our experience here today was not as i had recalled from my previous visits to this establishment.

Visited this restaurant before going to the playhouse been to the playhouse many times but never been to PaPas before didn’t know what we’ve been missing the food is excellent the service is also excellent very busy but the food came very quickly well prepared and delicious I had fish and salad on a personal note one of the very few places I’ve been to in a long time that had salad cream and not just mayonnaise which I hate

Surprisingly a one star review from Boss-Ali1 someone who clearly has not been to Papas and probably never even been to Weston-super-mare. They recommended Mother Hubbards - there’s no such place in Weston-super-Mare, there is one in Westborough though and one in Scarborough. Also said Papas was trying to cash in from being on the sea front , it isn’t, it’s on the Boulevard, 1/2 mile from the sea front. Papas , Weston-super-Mare, SOMERSET. People should ensure they review a place they actually went to!

Really odd seeing one star reviews for this fab little place. It’s not the Ritz. That is four doors down on the right, but we had a fab meal there before a show round the corner. Two lovely waitresses looked after us from start to finish. A fish and chip shop even had Zinfandel wine, so auto 3 stars, baby. Clever how it operates as a normal chippy and a cute little restaurant, too. Food was fine, place was clean, we were not rushed, people were nice, prices were normal… one star? Not from us. 2 minute walk to the theatre. I liked it.

I was very disappointed, the standard of papas chips was always something to look forward to, as a treat. I have just tried a portion of chips, which in my opinion were very greasy and tasteless, the potatoes taste old and I binned most of them. Papas are more expensive than other chip shops as you are paying for years of experience and a reputation for the best chips. These were a real letdown and I won't be returning.

Awful quality of food, they consider this as high standards. However, the fish was very oily , chips were hard and the soft drinks were flat. Extortion amount for what it is, total bill came up to £42. False advertisement and entrapment as in trying to use the sea front beach location to trap customers for fish & chips. Staff and owner seem very arrogant. If you want fish chips , you may as well go the harbour side near the beach area, better quality and worth the money. This is not worth the money. I would recommend Mother Hubbards million times better and tastier

Visited here recently, on a return visit having been here before many times. Not greeted in on entrance, waitress gave impression that she was not interested ,plonking stuff down on table as she walked past, restaurant not busy so no excuse for this. Food not as good as previous visits will not be returning i think next time we will visit another local fish restaurant !.

Recommended to come here. Wasn't disappointed. Very crowded restaurant and in not surprised. I had plaice, half salad, half chips. My partner has cod and chips, a roll and portion of mushy peas. Tap water to drink. Staff very efficient and friendly. Waited only bout 10 mins for our food. Live in Cardiff and only here for the day. Definitely visit again when we're down this way

Whilst on holiday in August 2023, we discovered this excellent chippy and used it 4 times in the week that we stayed in Weston Super Mare. We had the takeaway pie and chips each time and found that one portion of chips was enough to feed us both. Superb food served by very polite and friendly staff. Quick service and definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
