Absolutely love this restaurant, we really enjoyed our evening again. there is ample choices to suit all tastes, four of us all having different choice for every course. the food was brilliant, the whole lemon sole and chicken picante were really good portions and amazingly nice. having been on a diet for 3 month , having proper large hand cut chips was a total delight. such a good meal we declined desserts & opted for floater coffee.

Madame Owner greeted us and guided us to the corner table of four we had booked, took the drinks order, served the drinks, took the food order, served the food, cleared away and processed our bill, probably because there were only a few tables occupied in contrast to our previous visit when there had been food and drinks waitresses overseen by the Owners.

We have visited 'Mon P' many times over the past 20 odd years and, until recently, always enjoyed excellent food, service and atmosphere. Then the restaurant changed hands and the previous owner Simon left; we went back to celebrate our wedding anniversary last year and had a meal which was reasonable but not really outstanding in any way. After that we had not been back having heard some reports of poor service and indifferent food from several people whose opinions and judgement we respected. We decided, however, to see for ourselves whether the reports were justified by returning to celebrate this year's anniversary.Sadly, we have to agree with the people who found that things had changed for the worse and, sadly, will not be returning. We both had items from the lunch and early evening dinner menu - whitebait for starters and chicken piccanto as main dishes. While the breadcrumbed whitebait were quite acceptable and the portion size as expected the chicken was bland, lacking in any trace of the chilli we expected to find and extremely oily. It was accompanied by frozen chips and a repeat of the salad garnish we'd already been served with the starters and, frankly, we've had better fare at several local pubs. When we mentioned this oiliness to the waitress at the end of the meal we were told it was due to "the butter in which it was stir-fried" - a method we'd never heard of or come across before. This sounded unlikely to say the least though we did not take it any further. While the service was pleasant and efficient (we were the only people there at 7 p.m.) we found the experience was a disappointing one. With so many other places to eat within easy reach we'll be looking elsewhere in future.

We have been to this resaurant several times and had good meals. Because of this at it was my wife's birthday, we thought to go there again. However , things seem to have changed........for the worse.Starters ,soup was ok, the pate, sorry " terrine " was not a terrine and was not as advertised as apparently the supplier delivered the wrong one. Did it come from Asda, it could well have done as the chef certainly did not make it.Main course we both chose the fillet stronanoff, very disappointing as one had no sauce hardly and the other was swimming , both were under seasoned and not very tasty and the rice was just added as an after thought. We had some extra chips which previously were hand cut and cooked were now like frozen ones fried up.We complained about the stroganoff and it we were served a freshly cooked one which was hotter and better presented but still did not have the quality or depth of flavour of previous visits. The head waitress suggested they maybe should go back to the old recipe which we thought would be good idea. Why change a recipe, why not change the dish if they wanted to do anything. No offer of a complimentary glass of wine or apology for the disjointed meal was forthcoming , just the bill st full price. Not impressed.

I have to admit, I was a bit alarmed when I heard Simon was leaving. He had looked after us so well and for so long.I needn't have worried though, Shamu is a wonderful host. Very friendly and attentive. So nice in fact, you just want to give her a hug when you leave.I particularly like the way she worked undercover as waitress before she actually took over. Initially the menu stayed pretty much the same, but gradually she is adding her own touches and making some changes. In my opinion the changes are welcome. The menu was getting a bit 'samey' The changes aren't always going to be a hit, nobody can get it right every time but Shamu seems to get it right more often than not.Of course it's not the cheapest in town, but if you want quality you have to pay a premium. We visited last night for a special brother and sister family meet up and it felt like a very special evening. We left feeling warm and full. So is change good? Of course it is. How can you improve without change?

This was the first time we had been for about 6 months, mainly because we have been occupied elsewhere. We were slightly apprehensive given some of the reviews posted lately, and of course some diners are still lamenting the departure of the previous owner, who had made the place special. However, we were definitely not disappointed. The menu had changed a bit, with some missing favourites and some welcome additions. I love liver, but my wife hates it, so it is never cooked in our house. Therefore, whenever I see it on a menu I have to go for it, but I am so often disappointed, often dry, tough or just not cooked well. My meal at Mon Plaisir was the best liver dish I have eaten for years, tender (you could cut it with a fork), nicely seasoned, well cooked and presented. My wife enjoyed her meal and we came away feeling well fed and pleased with our experience. We will be going back.

But not last night, there was only one waitress working and the owner serving. The food was OK, but nothing to rave about. The menu has changed a bit and I'd say not for the better, we did manage to get our steaks on the wrong plates and came out not cooked as requested. The wine we wanted was not available by the glass and the substitute Rose was warm.On a plus note the Apple Crumble was very nice. It's such a shame to see Mon Plaisir like this, as it was always one of the places to go for a great meal in Clevedon.

Visited with a fairly large group of friends and had pre ordered from a very 70s style dated menu. The service was good and they coped pretty well with our large group. The food was really nothing special. I had a mushroom starter and a beef stroganoff main course. The mushroom starter was fine but the main course pretty rubbish really. The meat tasteless and fairly tough. As we were such a large group I was not going to embarrass people and make a fuss. Other meals on the table looked less than inspiring and would not make me rush to go back. This place is okay and obviously has a core clientele who are happy with how things are. I however think they have just not moved with the times. This is not a place I would rush back to. A previous reviewer mentions they have been going here since the 1970's and that says it all really. It might be the place for some and maybe perfect for Clevedon but not one I will revisit.

No atmosphere, no ambience, poor customer service, in-experienced waiting staff, food took a long time to arrive, whilst we were waiting the owner told us it was because the food was cooked from scratch! Erm! it's an Al la Carte restaurant - isnt the food supposed to be cooked to order? Food was disappointing when it arrived - tasteless and poorly presented! Even the bill took 20 minutes for them to sort out when we asked for it! On the plus side the new owner was very polite and accommodating. This was my first visit following the recent change of ownership. I wasn’t a huge fan of Mon Plasir under the previous owners and following this visit am less so under the new owners. The restaurant is a bit dated and in need of something to make it more interesting and comfortable. The uncovered table tops are battered and scratched and set with very basic cutlery and wine glasses. Oddly all the tables were pre-set with steak knives. The menu that was presented to us was quite limited and contained far fewer dishes than the on line menu and contained a number of variations on a theme such three variations of deep fried fish starters. We ordered deep fried Coley and a Whitebait starter, both of which were very nice. However the sauce to accompany the whitebait was served with the Coley and vice versa. Both were tasty but the error was a sign of things to come. Mains of a Sirloin and Fillet steak were served stone cold and promptly sent back to the kitchen. Unfortunately the hot side orders were not taken away at the same time so these were eaten without the main course rather than let them go cold. When the steaks were re-served they were missing cutlery which had been taken when returned to the kitchen. As there was no one in the dining area to ask for these were sourced from a neighbouring table. The steaks themselves were very tasty once cooked properly, but the accompanying basic dressed salad, sautéed mushrooms and poor quality frozen chips were disappointing. For a Fillet priced at £24.95, the accompaniments were really not up to the mark. The most disappointing element of the meal was a cheese board to finish which was very basic with tiny portions of cheese and minimal number of crackers.Service was perfunctory at best with no rapport with diners. There also seemed to be a lack of knowledge of the food being served and beverages on offer. The waitress who took our initial drinks order was unable to fully advise what beers and lagers were available (it’s not a large selection) and the waitress taking our food order asked whether we would like to order a side of sautéed mushrooms which we did, only to find that our steaks already came with sautéed mushrooms. We did enjoy a rather nice bottle of Malbec that was priced very reasonably. Overall some good food was served, but there were simply too many errors to be able to enjoy the experience and value for some items is questionable.

We always suspected Mon Plaisir would be overrated, and the chewy, charred sirloin steak confirmed our concerns. Sea bass was bland and simplistic but acceptable. Chicken escalope was "fine", the duck was the saving grace but only one member of our party had ordered it, unfortunately. The service was friendly and they did ask if our meal was ok, which it was - ok. Not what you'd expect for the prices and hype. The ambience is non existent, it felt like an underground cafeteria with poor acoustics. And you should take the art work back to the charity shop where you found it!

I have reviewed this restaurant before as very good... and it was. Simon the previous owner went out of his way to remember your name and make you feel welcome on every visit. We always experienced extremely well presented, consistently very good food; whether dining as a large group or a small intimate dinner, we always had a great experience. We had heard that the restaurant was under new management but having read recent reviews and seeing that the menu had remained almost the same, we had no reservations in returning.Unfortunately we were very disappointed. We were a group of 4 adults who all enjoy good food and wine. The menu and prices were indeed pretty much the same as before, but the presentation and quality was worlds apart. The meals were of the standard you should expect from any well known chain of pubs.. a bit piled high and very much lacking in presentation! The service was indifferent too. Our waitress was very friendly and good humoured when we were pacing our orders. The waitress returned to ask if we were enjoying our meals, we politely explained that we were very disappointed (the chicken escalopes we too dry to eat, the fillet steak was not great) nothing was done. None of us finished our meals... when the plates still full of food went back to the kitchen, I would have expected the chef to come and speak with us, at the very least. Overall not great and way too expensive for the standards we received... such a shame.

This restaurant has recently changed hands. It was never a gourmet michelin starred restaurant, but never pretended to be. The food was always exactly the same standard - fairly good, fresh and the staff made it a nice experience, remembering your name etc. We waited a few months just in case they had teething problems, but when I booked was pleasantly surprised that it was full, so assumed/hoped it was going to be good/different. The acoustics were never good, but upon arriving had other tables eves dropping and giving us hard stares after we'd had a glass of wine. The staff were absolutely lovely, extremely polite, funny and knowledgable, especially the chinese lady who served us. The food was very average. I didn't have a starter, but my friends did, it was a simple dish and they said it was OK, the main courses however were very very average. The chicken escalope was dry, the side salad was awful. The steak with pate, which was a speciality was terrible, greasy, cheap and on a par with Weatherspoon. Unfortunately the bill at Weatherspoon would have been less than half the price. We left hungry and disappointed and won't be going back. Surely somewhere in Clevedon can do better,

Shamoo, who I had been dealing with, introduced herself to us, Prosecco arrived and then our three course meals which were varied, and all very good - smoked salmon, goat's cheese, soup, fish, lamb and several desserts were delicious. Went for a mid week dinner & was happily surprised at the quality of every course. Tables set out nicely to feel quite private. Choice of food was good. Husband & myself chose different things for all three courses & we were delighted with everything that arrived at table. It was also very good value, would highly recommend.

The standard of this restaurant is consistent and exceptional! Always a warm welcome and makes you feel part of their family! Our food was prepared and presented to perfection. Our meal for a party of food scored 5* and was in ample supply (to full to order a desert) A beautiful experience, served by staff who really looked after us! Not to be missed when in Clevedon!

After reading good reviews on Trip Advisor we were lucky enough to get a table last night when staying in Clevedon. It was a good find and we would definitely return if in this area again.Finding the restaurant was tricky, it's not on Hill Road but through the car park of the road off it which is a bit confusing. But we followed some diners and received a warm welcome and were shown to our table. Throughout the evening we were served well and efficiently by friendly waiters. Our main courses were delicious, and plentiful. I recommend the pork with apricot filling, the saltiness and sweetness work really well together, and my husband ate all the red cabbage that came with his lamb rump even though he doesn't normally like it! Desserts were good but not outstanding. Key lime creme brûlée is a great idea but it could have had a more tangy flavour from the lime, and it was let down by being served with a shop bought shortbread. Wine list was pretty international, I would have liked more French wines to choose from, they were just the two most expensive on the list, and only two white wines were available by the glass. But that is being super picky!Overall, delicious food, great service. I can see why this is a favourite in Clevedon.

The food was excellent and not too expensive. The restaurant had a comfortable layout, was nicely decorated with nice lighting - so it should be I hear you say but, you'd be surprised how so many places get it wrong. There is a small level car park and plenty of nearby free on street parking. Will be visiting again in the near future with family and friends.

Now under new ownership, and with a less expensive menu, little has changed inside but the food itself was very disappointing. We were a party of four, all ordering different items and without fail all were bland to the point of tasteless in the extreme. Even the garnish of rocket was limp and tired looking. The Pork and Chorizo Pate seemed more like compressed breadcrumbs than the expected flavoursome dish ordered. And to run out of bread is almost unforgiveable. We did comment to the Waitress/Proprieter at every course and, to be fair, she did eventually agree to halve our bill. However, without a radical improvement in the kitchen I cannot see this remaining the profitable venture it obviously once was.

Most importantly the food was excellent...my guest thought her sea bass was tremendous although the wonderful salmon fillet apart, my plate of sloppy noodles was less so. Service was very friendly and welcoming although the bright lights don't make the best of the slightly dated layout. All in all, a very nice place to dine in Clevedon.

This isn't quite a classic French restaurant - it's more eclectic than that. However unlike so many places which try to impress you with gimmicks or sticky American favourites, Mon Plaisir gives you dishes you'll probably know beautifully cooked and well-presented in a simple comfortable atmosphere than does reflect the best French dining rooms. From a good standard menu complemented by a number of specials our party of three between us chose tempura prawns, whitebait, pork loin stuffed with apricots and Beef Stroganoff, followed by wickedly large portions of Eton Mess while Yours Truly remained (fairly) saintly with the sorbet! Mon Plaisir easily passed the espresso coffee test. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. It was a top quality dining experience at a sensible price for quality cooking and service.

First visit last night, shown to out table and asked about drinks, the waiter didn't even know what was red or white wine, when it was delivered it was just put on the table not even asked to try. The food was average, two of us had steaks which were not worth the money, more gristle than meat! I ordered a sauce which even having discussed it when ordering never turned up! We were then just rushed by the inexperienced waiting staff, it was not good service from start to finish, sadly we won't be going back.....very over priced for poor service and average food.

We have visited this restaurant as a family for the last 10 years and it has been one of our favourite places to eat. Since the new ownership we have returned 3 times, giving the new team the benefit of the doubt. The first occasion we waited for an hour to give our order and put this down to teething problems, the menu had been cut down and certain dishes weren't what they used to be. The second occasion was ok though still slow service. This last occasion has confirmed we won't be returning. The meal started wit frantic up-selling, trying to push bread and olives. The specials are handed to you on a piece of paper with no attempt at explanation. My 'special' starter turned out to be a cheap frozen vegetable spring roll with a stodgy undercooked outer full of peppery mush mixed with sweetcorn, peas and peppers (I expected home made full of fresh vegetables especially as it was on the more expensive side). Whoever garnished the plate did the best they could, serving a beautiful herb oil and salad with it. Those who ordered fish and chips all had undercooked batter. The gentleman who took my wine order realised he'd taken it down incorrectly but still gave me the wrong wine anyway as though he thought I wouldn't notice. We had cheese cake arrive instead of cheese and biscuits.I'm very sad the food is not up to previous standards. I miss the ambiance of the busy restaurant and the professionalism of the previous ownership.

This was our first visit to this restaurant in Hill rd Clevedon and it won't be our last. We went for a fixed price two/three course Sunday lunch and we wasnt disappointed. There was a good selection of starters and mains e.g. Mains included shoulder of lamb, roast beef, sea Bream and chicken. There was also a vegetarian option. We all enjoyed the food which was of good quality and generous portions. Service was good and attentive. The Sunday we went it was reasonably full which gave it a good atmosphere. Decor is simple but cosy. There is also a small car park for off street parking.

On being led to our table we were left a few minutes before anyone approached with menus or hellos. After that everything changed we were treated like friends and the service was excellent, the food was also very good with a menu you don't normally see ( wood pigeon as an example ) also the wine was reasonable. so in conclusion if were attended to sooner on arrival it would have been 5 stars, will we return? certainly.

The staff were great from the pre ordered glass of prosecco we all had on arrival, to the coffee at the end. I was concerned that, however good the food was, as review by others, with 21 that standard would slip. Well I do not know what the standard is for a couple eating there but the service and the food for 21 was excellent. We all had pre ordered from their Sunday menu, my husband had the Smoked Salmon as a starter, I had the venison terrine. Both were tasty very tasty. Others had the Goats cheese tartlet, spring rolls and soup, all stated how good it was and all plates were empty. So the first course went down well, then out came the mains. My husband had the Chicken with peach and apple stuffing. He would not let me have a taste of the stuffing - he was enjoying it too much. I had the lamb and it was falling apart tender, the other mains that came all looked good and were served at the correct temperature – hot not tepid. As a side we were served cauliflower cheese. The main course was excellent and left most of us saying that we could not eat any more. And then the deserts came out.I had decided not to have a desert, something that I regretted when I saw what was being served. Once again those who indulged said that the deserts were fantastic, from the Eaton mess through to the ice cream. The coffee was good as well.I hope to make the 120 mile round trip to eat there again one day. It was worth it.

Today was special as my favourite Godson celebrated his 22nd Birthday and his choose this restaurant for his Birthday meal. Along with my best friend my Godson Mother and eight members of the family we meet for his special evening.I knew of the restaurant as we are local to Clevedon however don't expect it easy to park near by! They have a small car park but the local roads are very busy and not easy to find a parking space close by! Best go by text or get someone to drop you off especially if it is raining rather like this evening! The restaurant is down some stairs and set in a French type celler rather charming but a little noisy as lots of full tables and the conversation echoed throughout so a little hard to hear each other speak! The waitress was very attentive and soon brought our drinks while we selected our meals. Good choice and you can pre order if a large party to save time! We choose not to do this as happy to wait the extra time for our food to be prepared.I won't go into all the selection as the menu is available to view on their website. We were all happy with our choices and the food was well prepared and very good! It may be slightly on the expensive side but there is a special of a two or three set meals during the week or for an early diner on Fridays in all this evening was around £30 each with two courses with wine, beer and coffees. We chose not to have a desert of my friend as always had provide an excellent Birthday cake which the restaurant presented to us along with the usual Happy Birthday sang by everyone much to my Godsons horror! So highly recommended and well enjoyedThank you

We came her for my birthday meal. The reception/ bar area is tiny. Note that the bar is only a dispense bar and not one that you can sit and have a drink at! We shared bread and olives to start followed by the grilled salmon on a bed of chilli. This dish was to die for, perfectly cooked crispy skinned salmon on a bed of chilli stir fried noodles. Great flavour and really fresh. This was the standout dish for us. Desserts was nice especially the key lime Creme brûlée. Once we paid, we then collected our coats from the tiny reception that doubles as a dispense bar. Very little space so I suggest putting your coats on out side if you're able to do so. The staff were friendly enough too.

This was a MILLION miles away from the stuff that was served to me as a child. The liver was beautifully cooked and was tender. The sauce that contained bacon was rich and tasty. The portion was great, none of this microscopice portions stacked high on the plate. Everyone else chose the stuffed pork loin and remarked at how nice it was. We had 2 bottles of wine with our meal. Most of the staff had limited knowledge on the allergen contents of the food and one of my courses came with 'normal' bread instead of gluten free which as a coeliac could have caused a few issues had I not checked this. Overall the food was good and reasonably priced however there were limited options on the set menu and unfortunately it just felt as though something was missing from the experience.

I decided to take a special friend here, as its probably 30 years since I last went! Luckily I booked a table ( I did it by email through the web site and got a reply very quickly) as on this Saturday night the restaurant was full and dinner was in full swing with a healthy and lively atmosphere. We were met on arrival by a very friendly waitress who showed us to our table and explained that there would be a delay as we had arrived 30 minutes early and other tables were before us. This was no problem for us and we ordered some olives, bread and oil to keep us going as we were both starving, along with a drink. This gave us plenty of time to study the menu and specials of the day. The place was very busy with a couple of large groups and the 3 staff were going full tilt to keep everything moving, as it became clear that there were more people expected after some had finished. Despite this pressure they did and excellent job and bang on time took our order. We actually expected a wait but in good time our starters arrived. I had the terrine which was delicious, especially with the warm toasted bread and chutney. My friend, a fish fiend, had the salmon which was also excellent. Main courses arrived in no time, I had the lamb, dauphinoise potatoes and cabbage in a lovely jus which was really wonderful and quite a large meal, that finished me off for the night. My friend chose the sea bass, with a salad which she enthused about too. When I got the bill I was quite surprised how reasonable it was, I have paid more than this for much less quality in a chain pub. For this standard of food its very reasonable indeed.Ok so why is this not given 5 stars, well in truth its a 4.5. A couple of small things that would improve things, which are a bit picky to be honest. 1. the lighting could be a little more ambient, its quite bright and stark. 2. the reception area was a bit disorganised with various staff not really taking charge of the area.
