Côte Exeter in Exeter

I recently visited this French restaurant to celebrate my children birthday, and it was a truly exceptional experience. The food was absolutely superb, with each dish cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The service was also truly impressive, very delightful. ELLIE was attentive and friendly. Overall, we would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience, whether for a special occasion or just a night out.

Starters were good but the main, poulet grillé, was average.

We went to have lunch at 12pm. We didn’t have reservation and we went there to ask if they had any table available. We were told they didn’t have a table available until 3:30pm. I checked online immediately (probably 2-3 minutes later) and I saw a reservation available for 12:15pm, so in 15 minutes and then another one at 1pm. I made the reservation for 1pm and when we got back there, surprise, they did have a table available before 3:30pm. Actually, there were multiple tables available. The food was good and not overpriced, although the fries seemed to be reheated.

Lovely place, great food, excellent service and a reasonable price, no wonder the place was busy.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime, staff were fabulous, food amazing - best scallops I have every had, yummy cocktails and a lovely Cremant Rose

Horrendous food. Sent back 2 meals(steak)as they were inedible. Server offered to remove 1 from bill but hadn’t done so when bill arrived. Refused to pay as meals were not eaten due to quality. Finally 2 meals were removed from bill. Paid and left never to return.

Beautiful ^ truly lovely setting 😍 opposite cathedral, seating outside (where we sat) vast seating areas on 3 floors. Chose the 3 course menu of pumpkin soup, chicken for main and caramelised banana with vanilla ice cream and hot chocolate sauce 😋 Everything was presented excellently, wonderful flavours (my pumpkin soup was on the cold side yet delicious taste) A wonderful last lunch before returning to Marbella, even gave the kitchen staff a round of applause 👏 to say thank you Will be back....hungry for more ♡

I went for dinner here yesterday with my mother and brother and we had a wonderful time. Molly, our server, was so friendly and warm, and nothing was too much trouble. Gosha was also great too! Thank you all for a lovely evening :")

Love it, atmosphere, best view, great food, and attentive staff.

Food was lovely except no veg (not explained at ordering) Service chaotic and slow. No toilets for disabled visitors on ground floor (yes I did asked and was told no)

Nice small French restaurant facing the Exeter Cathedral. Cosy atmosphere and reasonably priced food. Staff are friendly. Food portion is good, and tastes yum yum

We liked it. We hadn't booked, it was lunchtime on a Saturday, there were four of us, everywhere else we tried had no tables, but for some reason Cote had several tables available. We all enjoyed our food and drinks, everyone we talked to was very polite and professional, and it was very reasonably priced. I can't see why Cote wasn't booked out - but that was lucky for us and hopefully also for them as we'll go straight there next time and not bother checking the other restaurants on the way. Thumbs up from us.

The food was meh, smallish portions, bad sauces and sides. The sirloin steak was really tough to chew and with huuuge chunks of grease. The ice cream was actually good. Expensiveish for 35 £

Visited on Saturday with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary. We were seated on the first floor which was very busy but initial greeting of the server was prompt. Drinks arrived within minutes and food service was also very quick, despite it being a busy Saturday. Our mains were GORGEOUS (baked ratatouille, pork belly, truffle chips), we both said how it was one of the best meals we’d had out. Compliments to the chef! Only slight drawback was it took quite a long time to pay after we asked for the bill, we think it may had slipped our server’s mind - but again, we appreciate it had been a busy food service and I’m sure the staff had lots to catch up on! Overall really happy with everything, well worth the cost and a great venue for date night.

It’s always a good day if you’re visiting Cote in Exeter, overlooking Exeter Cathedral. The ambiance, Food & decor taking us both back to our recent trip to Normandy with almost the exact same menu that did not disappoint. Excellent.

Great food with excellent service.

Very attentive service. We were asked where we would like to sit as soon as we arrived and were given a table in the window with lovely views of the cathedral. We thoroughly enjoyed our food and all three of our party were pleased with our menu choices. I chose scallops followed by duck confit and the Paris Brest to finish. All of them were delicious. Service was quick and efficient and the waiting staff were very friendly.

Visited on Friday 23rd August 2024 with my wife, 4-year-old daughter, father and his partner. The restaurant honoured my dad’s request to have a table with a view of the cathedral. The staff were excellent with my daughter and the children’s menu is good. I ordered from the specials menu - French onion tacos and then the trout. My dad and I shared the cheese selection for dessert. All was excellent. The wine selection is also as good as you would expect for a French restaurant.

Adam at Cote in Exeter was the best!!! Seriously best service. As soon as I mentioned my nut allergy he brought out the allergen info and informed all the chefs - he made me feel really comfortable. Food was amazing. Thank you Adam!

We had an amazing time with Adam as our server! He was very attentive to our allergy, as well as very funny and professional. The food was delicious and the drinks were so good! Definitely recommend.

Excellent meal which everyone enjoyed. Above all the service was brilliant. Attentive, quick and efficient. The whole staff team were excellent but only got one person’s name, Adam, who was great. The whole team were likewise. Personally not a fan of not accepting cash, but that’s a head office decision and nothing to do with the Exeter team.

A really lovely place with a great view of Exeter cathedral. The food was amazing and the temperature was perfect when served. Our waiter was a really nice guy and you could have a giggle with him. Would recommend this place to anyone as the prices weren't too bad. They also serve a very nice bubbly rose that is alcohol free and you wouldn't know.

Good food. Low score because: - very bad service and lack of staff training - manager who really didn't want to be there, and had very little control over the floor - staff more interested in either hiding or facing the wall I strongly suggest a mystery customer or surprise visit from head office. Having dirty tables laying there for up to half an hour just isn't acceptable. We should have known there was an issue as there were two tables queuing up to pay when we arrived. Seeing someone queue to pay when you're in a table service restaurant is a strong no no. More attention to the front of house needed

Had the sea bass was really lovely

Ate out for lunch, Adam was our waiter, he was really lovely and full of knowledge about the menu and what drinks to pair. He made our whole experience really enjoyable and made sure we were looked after at all stages. The food was absolutely delicious and would hope he is our waiter on our return!

We came to cote for lunch and dessert. Very impressed with the service. We had Adam serve us today and made our visit fantastic. He was very friendly, professional and is certainly an asset to your team. He ensured that everything was okay and that we were happy. We would definitely come back and hope that Adam serves us again. Delicious food as well! Very happy

Fantastic meal last night before Abba. Our waiter from Valencia was very attentive with a great sense of humour. Steak and chicken were excellent but the piece de resistance was the crepe with cherries and pistachios..amazing. Good price. Very clean.

Visited early evening but still a nice crowd in, good service from staff as always. We both had the comfit pork belly - really, really nice

It has a beautiful interior, I had the French onion soup .it is better than I thought. Also the Confit Pork Belly was soft and tasted good. Finally I ordered a Creme Caremal Royale for dessert, it was delicious. the service was good and the staff were very friendly. I Highly recommend this restaurant. I look forward to my next visit.

Quiet atmosphere and correct food, the perfect location

The best restaurant I visited in Exeter, the scenery and food are both great. And the landlady is very warm hearted and pretty!

It has a beautiful setting with a view out to the cathedral and it’s green. It feels as though you have a truly French experience - we went on our honeymoon to France and wanted a reminder on our 10 year wedding anniversary. Our waiter was brilliant, food was incredibly speedy (we even got another drink in before dashing home for childcare!). Very yummy food, we loved it :)

Food and service that go beyond expectation!

Nice food, steak was ok, but excellent starter and pudding . Service is good, but not quite as attentive as they used to be considering the tip is added onto the bill automatically. Lovely view from the windows of cathedral green.

Great varied menu and location is lovely. Staff so warm and friendly. Good value and my day was made up when they found my iPhone nearby on the wall. Kept it safe. They didn’t know I was booked into the restaurant. Just honest and kind staff. Thank you. 🙏 🤩

Great restaurant with the best breakfasts, service and ambience in Exeter. Has a large upper floor and a lot of covers. Food might be expensive for some but excellent value for money combined with range each time we go in our opinion.

Having paid the bill i noticed they had slipped in a service charge for our two coffees. It wasn’t mentioned when we ordered nor obvious on the menu. It felt like i was being ripped off and i decided not to make a group booking I’d planned to make

Lovely staff and restaurant design but I have better steak for cheaper at Wetherspoons.

Nice restaurant with a nice feel and great gluten-free options. Didn't feel rushed at all, which is great. Fixed three-course menu was very reasonable.

Visited with very old school friends, first time we had been together in 37 years. We had a lovely lunch. Restaurant was lovely, as was the food and drink and our server was super nice, organised a cab for us as well.

Eight of us visited for my son's graduation celebration. The restaurant is in a fabulous position overlooking the cathedral and we were happy with our table next to the window on the second floor, where we could take in the view. Great menu, with plenty of options. Everyone loved the food, the cocktails and the prompt and friendly service.

Poor service, terrible staff, no sense of customer service. Overall terrible experience which is quite sad considering the food is nice.

We had a fantastic meal here - a double celebration of our daughter graduating and her birthday. Côte recognised this with a round of bubbles which was so kind and generous. One of our party is gluten intolerant and they accommodated them perfectly with no effort at all and made it all normal which is not our experience in most places. The food was excellent, service friendly and kind and we had a great evening!

Two visits within five days the first being pre booked before an event at the Cathedral and the second was a spontaneous decision. Sun was shining and we had time to just stop and relax over a lovely meal and bottle of wine. Service is always exceptional and on the last occasion the staff managed to squeeze us in despite seemingly full with recent graduates and their families. We appreciate the effort - nothing seems too much for the staff. Food was excellent and well presented. Duck for me on the next visit as my companions was cooked to perfection though I couldn’t complain about my salmon!

Had a fantastic meal, the food was really tasty and presented well, the service was excellent, I would’ve preferred a longer gap between courses however that is my only criticism, but nothing else could be faulted, will definitely be back on our next visit to Exeter.

We visit Cote regularly. Today we had an excellent meal in Exeter. As always the food was very good and of the usual high standard. The team are fantastic and today we were looked after by Gerald. Wow, what an incredible member of staff. Professional, great knowledge of the food and drinks. We were made to feel very welcome and it was a pleasure to be looked after by a professional person who clearly enjoys his job. Well done to Gerald and the whole team at Exeter!

Very mixed on this. The service was lovely, and so was the cook on the beef. We had the 60 quid côte de boeuf, but the meat itself has literally no taste. It was like getting cheap tesco mince meat, shaped as a steak. Incredibly disappointing

Had the mushroom burguignon is was vegan but the mushrooms were cooked in such a, way to give a fleshy texture so I was concerned it was not. Great sauce too. Waiter was very attentive and helpful and added wholeheartedly to our experience.

Wow! Went here for hot drinks one morning in June 2024. Just spectacular coffee with the French barista taking such care to ensure the best possible experience for us. Unfortunately they don't do takeaway, but this is also good as the cafe has wonderful views overlooking the cathedral. Thank you to all the awesome staff who looked after us. A real highlight of our visit to Exeter.

A beautiful restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and delicious food!

Our visit was a very enjoyable experience from the warm welcome on arrival, the excellent service, the lovely food and value for money for premium quality food, we can't wait to come back.

I absolutely love dining in this establishment.The food is delicious whether from the main menu or the fixed priced lunch special which is fantastic value.The staff are so friendly and helpful and make you feel wanted- nothing is too much trouble.We were celebrating buying our first ever home together and it was made really special, so much so that I came back the next day with my best friend to celebrate all over again!!All the food is so yummy that I'm going to have to ride my push bike for a little while before I go again or I won't fit through the door!!🤣❤❤

Have visited many Côte restaurants around England. Always been good. This one was a massive disappointment!

Went for my wife's birthday. Food was excellent, as always. Service included free glass of wine, and a birthday message in icing sugar.

I have eaten at a lot of establishments inand around Exeter, I can honestly say that Cote offer the best value for excellent quality food, with helpful friendly staff that is reasonably priced. Been 4 times this year never been let down.

Great city centre option .. we had superb service in what is a very busy place. You are going to need to book!

Eaten at Cote Peterborough, Cote Nottingham, and now Cote Exeter, nothing to choose between these excellent eateries, lovely choice menu, attentive service, and pleasant ambience. If I had to choose between the three I would say Peterborough just edges it, but they're all extremely good places to eat at.

Very good location opposite the cathedral food was ok atmosphere very good but service slow we were outside and it was busy we asked twice for the bill and ended up just leaving the money on table after 20 odd minutes of waiting.

We were looked after by Colin and he was exceptional! Best customer service I’ve had in years. The food was excellent. A very good experience all round.

We have been here countless times, and everytime both the service and the food have been outstanding. The restaurant is also located in a beautiful spot of Exeter, facing the cathedral and it is very well decorated inside, which adds on to the experience. The food is delicious, cooked at high standards and the staff are very attentive and polite. The desserts are, in my opinion, the best part. So, if you are planning to come to Côte, save some room for afters!

After visiting Cote restaurants throughout the country literally hundreds of times over the years we are yet to be disappointed. We are lucky now to have Cote Exeter as our local Cote. The staff are all always amazing, warm and friendly. The menu’s are full of constantly changing dishes sometimes making the choice difficult but the dishes are always of excellent quality and interest. There has to be a reason Cote’s are always busy every night, year round.

Great restaurant and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is spot on and the views overlooking the cathedral are stunning. I love the French onion soup …. And the steak I had this time around was cooked to perfection. Our server George was super attentive and made the experience a pleasurable one. Definitely recommend visiting here

Incredibly well looked after by the team at Exeter. We found ourselves lingering after just dropping by for a drink and decided to stay for dinner. We had a fantastic evening. George was our server and he was knowledgeable, friendly and read our table needs perfectly.

It was fantastic! It always is a pleasure going there. The team were very kind and welcoming. Also, the food and drink was great the waitress recommended a white wine with my fish pie which complimented it extremely well.
