Poor steaks. Ordered a prawn dish and was served chicken. Steaks grisly. Waitress was patronising and tried to talk down to us. They did knock a bit off the bill but it was already over priced for what it was. Small serving of vegetables/chips. Had to send one dish back. Wife was served 20mins after everyone else. And the pasta wasn't cooked properly and sauce was watery. Wife left most of it as it wasn't good at all. Drinks well over priced. I dont mind paying for good food and service but on this occasion it was shambolic. They said they had complaints by previous customer over the steaks so why carry on serving a product that you have a known issue with ? And the waitress said they are having issues finding a good cheif! (How un professional! ) Id avoid this pub for food in future. Pubs are struggling but with this level of quality no wonder people are opting to keep their money in their pockets. Such a shame as Fox & Hounds use to be a great eating place.

Me and the wife have been here several times, for the carvery, one of the best we’ve had. Staff are always polite and friendly. Highly recommend.

My partner and I spotted the Fox & Hounds on a drive to the north coast of Cornwall. Being lunchtime, we stopped for a light bite and a drink. The service was exceptional and food nicely presented and tasty. As an indication of how highly we rated the pub, we are intending to visit it again for lunch tomorrow.

My husband and I went for dinner today. The staff were really friendly and the food excellent. I let slip that it was my birthday and they brought my dessert with a lighted candle and sang "Happy birthday" Thank you all - it made it a special day.

Such a warm welcome from Abby, we were on our first trip away in our newly bought camper van and been to the campsite which was horrid so we had nowhere to stay, lovely Abby immediately said we could stay in their car park if we couldn't find anywhere for the night 😀 thank you so much Abby! We had a meal this evening and the food was delicious 😋 but the highlight of the night was how welcoming the staff were they went above and beyond. Special mention to Amber and Tabbitha. The hanging baskets were beautiful on the exterior of the pub.

The waitresses were extremely attentive and polite. Unfortunately, the food was poor. The Nachos were put in a bowl that was not very wide, so the toppings were concentrated over a small section and the cheese was not melted well. I was unable to finish the vegetarian lasagne because it was too greasy. The lasagne consisted of: a 1cm wedge of cheese topping, hardly any pasta sheets, the vegetables were minuscule and non-existent and the sauce was sloppy like soup. A disappointing meal.

Really dog friendly, Ivy loved her chicken and rice off the hound menu. Lovely staff, very welcoming, children loved their lasagna, decent portions, skillet plate was great. Reasonably priced for good portions. Good wine and ale. Dessert was good too. Thank you, would recommend!

This is a regular favourite super dog friendly pub for us. Always a lovely welcome for us and our dog (s). Menu choice is varied and the food is always great.

I wanted steak and chips and a pint of English ale. This place delivered. Staff were so kind and food was spot on. Recommend to all.

Had very pleasant experience here, all staff were friendly, food was true to descriptions full of taste and worth the price.

Only vegan option was the burger. Didn't stay.

This is really great place with fantastic atmosphere and best service, food was really nice. The only missing thing was a bit healthier, less salty options, especially on kids menu, but other than that it was delish!

Absolutely disgusting starter prawns were sill frozen ,main courses chips were not cooked only blanched once still white my burger was raw in the middle the burger bun I could not even cut or eat at all my ,my husband fish was cremated and his chips weren’t cooked either which he didn’t eat and he always eat his chip I am sorry but I wouldn’t recommend and the food was served and she ran off so quickly I did not have a chance to ask for cutlery she was probably embarrassed at the food she served disgusting.

Used to be our sunday local 4 years back. Went on Fox Fest was buzzing nice to be back !

Had fantastic meals at this pub, and it was extremely busy, however the staff managed to look after us.

Great service, very friendly and quick too even though they were very busy. They found us a table even though we hadn't booked. Fun to have live music in the garden. Food portions were generous. Can recommend the fish burger if you're hungry.

Lovely pub nicely set. One criticism. We planned to have food but sat in the Lovely garden, but the music being broadcast over the speakers in the middle of the day did grater on the nerves after a while. ( and I do love all types of music) Shame because the food looked great.

Don't order the loaded fries. They're an affront to real food and priced like a Michelin star restaurant.

Great service for our late lunch on a Wednesday. Good choice on the menu and the staff were spit on. Very dog friendly too, with a special dog menu. Really enjoyed the visit and will definitely return. As always the hanging baskets outside were a picture.

Called in here on the way back to Falmouth 4.6.24. The lady (Amy?) was super super nice, made us feel incredibly welcome and at home. She made us feel like nothing was too much trouble. We ordered food, Pil Pil prawns, classic prawn skillet, a lasagne and ham egg and chips for my elderly Dad. Fabulous! We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Tasty and piping hot what more can you ask for. Wish we’d found it sooner as would’ve gone again.

Yesterday evening, we went to The Fox And Hounds for dinner for a Sunday carvery an we were amazed how kind the staff are an how delicious the food is (the ice cream sundae is huge) and it has a special spoon

Very disappointed came for a work night outing and half of the menu was unavailable. It’s such a shame as I heard great things from others about the food but sadly we were all very dissatisfied.

We eat outmost Sundays, and we thought we would try the Fox and Hound. Meat a bit dry from sitting veg over cooked, and brussel sprouts very mushy. I would only rate this as a 5 out of 10. Sorry to say we won't be going back.

Sunday evening carvery in Cornwall at its very best. Very good portion of meat and a lovely selection of veg. Come here as often as we can, and always impressed. Service is second to none. Thank you and see you soon!

If it wasn't for the staff my score would have been lower, the drinks were expensive (£4.30 for a bottle of Heineken 0%) My Ham and Eggs was only average with warmed up ham and frozen chips, no meals had any salad garnish and the total bill was £96 for 4 persons with only one drink each (£5.95 for a pint of larger, £5.85 for a 175ml of wine and 75p for a dash of lemonade) all in all I will not be returning .

Greeted by the staff on entering the pub,and the options were quite good on the menu but fairly pricey,but maybe out of touch with dining out. Would have liked to see either sirloin or rump steak on the menu with the works of onion rings,mushrooms,peas etc but it was either steak in a baton type roll, or rib eye(the most expensive) service was excellent,catering for dairy free limited,but bent over backwards to achieve satisfaction on the sweet menu. Well worth a visit

Twelve of us from a local garden club had lunch at the Fox and Hounds today. We booked in advance and the staff were well organised and helpful. The main courses were excellent and those that had desserts said they were very good too. Portions are generous and the quality of the fresh cod was superb. The menu has a good variety of dishes and there is something to suit all tastes. I am now going to try out the Sunday roast which has been recommended!

An excellent place to eat, we have stopped here several times the food is always great, the pub has a lovely atmosphere inside. We came here most recently for Sunday roast, by far one of the best roasts I've had out. All the staff are friendly too. I highly recommend

Came across this lovely pub simply by googling local pubs to the cottage we were holidaying in. What a find. Excellent food and friendly staff. Love it being so dog friendly too. Thank you, we will be back next time we are in Cornwall!

Positives - apart from the team waiting on there were very few positives. When 2 x fish and chips arrived it was embarrassing as to the presentation and lack of food on the plate given the prices being charged. Fish presented skin side up is unacceptable. The chips were a mix of thick and thinner cut items which looked sad on the plate. The tartare sauce was an absolute joke and bore no resembalance to that on offer at local competitors or mass produced products. The fish pie whilst tasty was poor in presentation and fell short when compared with competitors. The best value meal of the evening was the scampi and chips which says something. We are local and keen to support local businesses but this evenings mediocre experience means we will focus on other premises.

Having had a mediocre meal here about 6 weeks ago I decided to try again given that it is a local pub. Alas, I was disappointed with the food again. Chicken Kiev was over cooked, dry and chewy. Rib eye steak was full of gristle and despite asking for medium rare was served well done. The peppercorn sauce was far too salty and overpowered the whole meal. Nachos were uninspiring and looked distinctly unappetising as just thrown on a small plate. The food absolutely lets down what is a friendly pub with a nice atmosphere. Overpriced, bland, overcooked and lacks the finesse you would expect with the prices being charged. Struggling to see how the landlord can justify the high food and drink prices. Having given the place a second chance I will not be back. This used to be a great pub with great food. Sadly it has gone downhill with quality sacrificed for profit.

Being locals we occasionally stop off for lunch here and are always very pleased we did. Today was no exception as the food, service and overall ambiance were all great. The welcome was lovely and the service spot on. We rate this pub very highly for it's quality and value and urge everyone to support it.

Soooo pleased we found this beautiful country pub! Absolutely perfect atmosphere, warm and welcoming, friendly and relaxed. Food was fab, all had steak except the small one who had kids fish fingers (homemade, fresh, delicious... MASSIVE portion!) steaks were cooked to perfection with great side selection - onion rings were banging! Nothing to fault in the food except I wish we could come back on a Sunday to give the carvery a go! Staff and locals super friendly and welcoming. I'd highly recommend this lovely place!

Have eaten here several times and although service is slow; food usually good. However had meal booked for 6.30, and several items not available, 2 of our party ordered the battered cod to be told it was whiting, later told no whiting but they did have griddled sole which I decided to have. When our meals finally arrived the fish was poorly presented and I moved around the plate. IT WAS RAW. It did not smell fresh. Returned it to the kitchen and chose just the mushrooms on bread. 2 of our party had finished their meals before mine even came. No-one in our group enjoyed their meal. When the bill arrived, I was told I had not been charged for the fish !!!! No other deduction made or offered. The serving staff were very apologetic about the situation- Will not be returning.

We have been going to The Fox and Hounds for a couple of years for meals now. It's a lovely pub/restaurant and the staff, although always busy are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble. They are worth their weight in gold. !!!! It's a very popular place and sometimes by the evening service they have sold out of items on the menu. But there's always still a good selection of meals on offer. Other plus is they are dog friendly. Dog bowls, and doggy menu provided. A lovely touch. We always enjoy our visits. Thank you

Went for food & a catch up with friends. Atmosphere was good and staff friendly. Two of us fish & chips & one had Caesar Salad - all excellent. For desert, one had coconut & mango which was very nice. I had the pale ale jelly with white chocolate mousse & peanuts. It came in a 1/2 pint glass mostly jelly with a thin layer of the mousse which was actually a warm foam. The proportions weren’t right, it tasted weird & the ingredients really didn’t go together. My other friend just had vanilla ice cream - a much safer bet. Would definitely go back however I would avoid any weird dessert combinations next time.

Excellent food, good-sized portions, and nice, friendly service and décor. ———————————— What happened! The above comment was made two years ago and things have changed. The prices have crept up over the past year. E.g., my favourite meal, the liver-and-bacon with mash, went from approximately £16 to £18, so I started to back off a bit. Other items had increased commensurately. We visited again the other day and found the menu had altered significantly, my favourite, along with other meals, having disappeared altogether. One of the aspects I liked about the Fox & Hounds was that its menu was pleasingly different to that of a lot of pubs which generally offer the same old tired fare. Unfortunately, this is the route the Fox & Hounds has suddenly taken and at astonishing prices that have unequivocally convinced us that this was our final visit. Scampi and chips at £18.95! A dash of lime in my wife’s lemonade was extra at 40p. Soup at £8.95. This shocking shift will do the pub no favours, an effect of which is already noticeable by the far fewer customers that were in there, their overheard comments, and the dark, closed-off areas.

Highly recommended. Went for lunch with a friend. Excellent food and the service was outstanding. A pleasure to go there, would definitely recommend and return.

Great carvery - have been here 3 x in last 3 months and not been disappointed. Only downside is the tolerance to other customers to allow dogs to sit on the seats. I wouldn't want to sit on a seat after someone has had their dog sitting on it. No problem with dogs but lack of consideration by some owners is always a mystery to me.

DISGUSTED. I happened to go to this pub late Wednesday afternoon on the day that has been discussed of a gentleman's wake. I went with my partner for early drinks and a meal and found when I walked in a calm and happy atmosphere. There was a group in the corner by the fire who I now know as the party of people who were there from the funeral earlier that day. They was only around 10 of them and they were just chatting in the corner. We then watched the manager chatting with the staff and leaving, then a young girl approached the table and inform them that they were no longer allowed any alcohol. I was a little shocked as they seemed perfectly fine and no problem, i have been in pubs before where drunks can be unruly and this isn't how I would of described them at all. Then they were obviously upset but still calm and controlled and each went to the bar to cancel food. I heard some comments of disappointment as they left which under the circumstances I was not surprised. The management have commented on TripAdvisor saying they were abusive and cctv showed this, THEY WEREN'T. Yes there body language showed the were upset but there was no shouting or aggression. After they had left my partner and I where so shocked how they could be treated so badly after losing a family member and being forced to leave. I would of been devastated if this had happened to my family and ruined what should of been a memorable day. We then left without eating. I'm still reeling from the staffs treatment!

New menu . Very disappointed. We came for a family meal. My mother in law ordered the fish of the day which she was informed was haddock. When it came to the table it was plaice and was asked by the waiting staff if that was OK. She felt at the time she couldn't say anything as she was conscious other diners may hear and didn't want to make a fuss and all the other meals had been served. If you order haddock you expect haddock not plaice. The rest of the meals could have been easily made at home and a lot tastier! The waiting staff especially with a new menu need to know how the meals are served.

I recently went here in Feb 2024 for a dear friend dads wake that particular pub was chosen as the dad was born opposite .on arrival at around 12 30 we were all offered a promotion of drink 5 pints get the six one free which we took up of course ( the drinks here are very expensive ).the tills were ringing and the manager couldn't of been happier as it was a rainy weds afternoon so a quiet day . Most mourners left but a few family members and friends remained for a evening meal which started at 5 30 PM. A large food order was placed and the son went to the bar and placed a large drinks order which cost over 60 poundms with no promlem . We were sat in a corner talking about dad etc when the manager came over and said no more drinks then disappeared she was extremely rude and had no empathy at all . My friend had paid alot of money to have the wake here and was upset and angry . Unfortunately I have heard since that it has happened before . I would stay well clear of this place overpriced and snotty . The owner didnt even bother to get in touch with my friend either I think it's disgusting!!

I recently attended the wake of my best friends father. The food provided seemed to go down ok and the afternoon went well, initially, with great banter between mourners and staff, however as the day progressed the remaining group placed a large food order only to be told that we would not be served anymore alcohol. We had spent a lot of money between us and without the party the pub would have been empty and everyone was very good natured celebrating the life of a local gent. We were told we'd been 'drinking for too long'. I was not aware there was a time frame and this led to the group cancelling all orders and leaving. It was a really disappointing end to an already emotional day and the whole group, that all live locally will not be visiting again.

Held my Dads wake here as he was born across the road, he was 83, initially all staff were very helpful, but when we carried on drinking past 5pm, we then placed a large food order, when all money had been taken for the food, we were then told by young staff - not the manager who had ducked out- that were were not allowed any more drinks! Understandably, we were upset! And cancelled all food orders! Took a week to reply to emails, and blamed us all for everything m Drinks are well over £6 a pint, food ok

We had the carvery and it was cold,the veg (carrots/cabbage) was hard not cooked enough! The gravy was like water bland meal! The plates shape once the meal was On the gravy ran off the plate and not due to pouring to much on.. The staff are super friendly and helpful.

Booked midweek for the coming Sunday Carvery....were not disappointed...food was fantastic and plenty of it, very reasonably priced with friendly servers/staff. Will definitely do this again.

Dropped in for lunch, surprised at the amount of people using the place, even more surprised with the menu, talk about spoilt for choice, finally decided on the sizzling skillet, one with steak the other with king prawns and we weren't disappointed, both were delicious. Price was nice too, will be returning soon.

My partner had carvery which was lovely. I ordered the scampi and chips. The chips were cold and the scampi so overcooked the coating was very hard and the scampi shriveled up inside. I decided to pick out the scampi only to find most had no scampi inside! Mentioned this to the waitress who did apologise and offered me a free dessert. I declined but asked that my £17.95 non existent or edible scampi be deducted from the bill or at least reduced! I was told it is not possible to refund ANY meals whatsoever! Only a dessert for free could be offered. Begrudgingly we paid the bill only to notice after that we were charged £18.95 for the scampi instead!! Nearly £20 for a spoon of peas and spoon of side salad!!! 🤬🤬 Needless to say we will not be returning!!!

Went for lunch with friends and can only say that despite the positive reviews, together with my previous experiences, this latest visit left lots to be desired. Although advertised as gluten free, there was no gluton free bread available leaving little choice despite the menu stating the opposite... bread is a basic staple but apparently it's cost is prohibitive!; the waiting staff were polite and attentive but we're clearly not sufficiently informed as to the availability of items on the menu; in the past I've I received value for money but sadly on this occasion I certainly can't say the same. Whether I'll return remains to be seen... the jury's out!

We go in quite regularly and the food and staff are lovely. Just did the Burns night with the special menu and they didn't disappoint... absolutely delicious and the staff amazing as usual. Would always recommend this friendly pub and they are very dog welcoming too!

Had difficulty finding somewhere open on a Monday so booked here. Really lovely and friendly staff and the food was pretty good, husband had the Guinea fowl which he said was soo good. We will definitely go back again and perhaps try the Sunday carvery.
