Olive Tree in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Lovely restaurant situated on the canal side with plenty of paid for parking nearby. The staff were welcoming and attentive during our visit. We didn’t eat a full meal on this occasion but the food being served to others looked very good. The cakes we had were yummy and good value. With seating inside and out, it’s worth a try.

So I went here on the 29th Sep 24' for a meal with my parter and our daughter and I can honestly say it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant! Start with the food, I had Fish and Chips and the fish was absolutely tiny and the chips were warm-ish, no mushy peas, just warm garden peas. My parter had the Sea Bass and the skin was burnt. My daughter (toddler) had kids Fish and Chips and this was as expected for a kids meal... The staff just talk amongst themselves at the bar and never once did the ask how was the food at the middle or end... Asked for a straw for my daughters drink, they replied with "we don't do straws' which was a bit odd.. The girl serving us had about as much enthusiasm as the piece of fish I was served...

I'm local and have been coming here for years. However I do feel the standard from 2 years has gradually declined. Some meals are now so small they are positively overpriced and the service has almost come to a stand still. The only really positive is the position of the restaurant - sitting by the canal on a lovely sunny day is delightful! But a plea to the waiting staff - put a bit of energy into your work!

First of all the service was just amazing. Everyone that was serving had a smile on their face and made sure we were smiling too. The quality of the food was great and was served efficiently. The place was well decorated and had a lovely and friendly atmosphere. 5 stars would definitely go again.

Popped in Monday evening. Reduced menu. I ordered Chicken burger, basically a Chicken Breast cut in half and put in a bun.! Others had Sausage and Mash...not sure the mash was real potatoes or instant potato...and the charge for an extra sausage is expensive, could of bought 2 packs for that price. I would think staff should upsell, as if more drinks are required...we paid and went elsewhere.

Food never disappoints! Great service from friendly waitress. Had a Delicious crab salad from the specials board, crab shell full of lovely fresh crab meat & at a very reasonable price. Staff so obliging they even arranged for me to collect a boxed up version the next day as a treat for my mother & she loved it ! 5 * all round !

Very nice fish and chips lunch to accommodate the different tastes of our family. We were received imidietly and saw to our table. The staff were very serviable and checked in with us regularly. Excellent food and brilliant staff!

We visited on a rainy Sunday and despite the rain chose to sit outside. The service was friendly and actually very good. The food was reasonable. We had a burger and a grain bowl with chicken. The grain bowl was missing a bit of extra flavour but generally nice. The burger was ok too.

A great little alfresco bistro with good service and the outlook, over the canal, was very pleasant. Our food was extremely good and of a standard that surprised us considering the size of the building. This has already gone into our friends list of places to always go to when in the area.

I called in on Monday lunchtime, searching for a hot coffee after a cold bike ride from Newquay. The coffee was good and the menu looked interesting, so I went for a Fish Stew on the daily specials. It tasted superb and was equal to the best that I have eaten in Spain. After the stew, I didn't want to leave, so I ordered a Winter Crumble and another coffee. The staff were really friendly, it was quite busy with a good atmosphere and the food was superb, so I will certainly return soon.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. We visited as a group of 17 for our wedding meal and everything was absolute perfection. Every guest loved their food. We asked for the food around 2pm and it was exactly on time. I really can't recommend this wonderful restaurant enough. The food, the service, the beautiful location - it's all perfect!! Thank you for making our day so wonderful. We look forward to visiting in the very near future.

Non existent customer service. Wife had fish pie, has been in bed all day with diarrhoea and vomiting. Not happy. If we were still in the area I would revisit the premises and speak to management. Avoid!!!!!!

We have visited the Olive Tree for dinner regularly for a number of years when on holiday in Bude. A high quality dining restaurant with a relaxing ambience and outstanding standard of food. No more. We arrived to find an "all day" menu which comprised café food- burgers, tacos, pizza and pasta. The prawn linguine we ordered was overpriced for a small portion. The service was slow with staff just walking past us without offering us drinks and were on the defensive when we asked about an evening menu. There atmosphere was of a tired, day time café serving into the evening and staff having no real interest in being there. If this is a restaurant you've been going to for years and enjoying; don't go again its changed beyond all recognition.

Right by the canal this is a little gem on a nice day and is dog-friendly outside on the benches in the sunshine. We had lunch which was delicious and returned for breakfast on our final morning in Bude. Portion sizes are generous as couldn't eat all. Will definitely return on our next visit to Bude!

We went on 2 occasions and each time the food was delicious and delivered in good time. The staff were nice and friendly and the setting alongside the canal was lovely. My sister said her linguine pasta dish was the best she’d had in a long time and better than more expensive restaurants. As the Olive Tree was alongside Bude canal people with dogs were more than welcome though only service dogs were allowed inside which I thought was fair enough.

As regular visitors to Bude we have yet to find a better place for everything from just a coffee stop right up to a full evening meal. Although busy especially in the height of the summer it never takes long to get a table if you time it right. Can highly recommend the cakes with coffee, ploughman’s and breakfasts. Dog friendly outside tables with umbrellas should it be too hot or drizzling & set beside the canal it’s a very nice setting. There is parking very close by which makes it accessible too.

Haven't been here for ages, so thought we'd go for a late lunch. We arrived at 3pm, promptly taken to our table. Not busy, inside or out, with plenty of staff. Ordered our food and drinks. Food was very good - big portion of Ploughman's, but mackerel was small, but at least it was tasty. Service was very poor...no smile, no asking us if the meal was ok, no customer care at all. Possibly be excused if they were busy, but only 2 tables taken inside and only 1 outside. We had to ask for the bill. Bit of a cheek asking for a tip, which we duly refused and explained why. Staff member just shrugged their shoulders. We then left. Summing up....good food, if a tad expensive, but no customer service at all. Very disappointed. We are local, but won't be returning in a hurry.

Went for dinner. Nice location by canal. Service was slow in coming though. Had to prompt for drinks then a 45 min wait for a bread and oil starter which we had to chase. People arriving after us were being served before. Starter had been forgotten so was knocked off bill. Ordered spaghetti bol. They had run out of Parmesan so offered cheddar. Food when it eventually arrived was good though. If they sort out niggles would be good place.

I'm leaving this review on behalf of my technophobe Mum! She has just returned from a trip to Cornwall with my Dad and is eager for people to know how good this place is. She said it was simply one of the best fish and chips she has ever had. Dad had the burger and said he would give it 4 out of 5 stars. They both liked the setting, next to the canal, said the service was good and would definitely recommend a visit here. And judging from the photo which Mum sent me, I don't think even I could moan about the lack of peas!
