The Chancel has been one of our favourite places to eat in Plymouth for many years. During Covid and a bit longer they’ve been delivering or preparing for collection. Without much thought or any foreknowledge we walked down this evening hoping it might up and running for their traditional bistro food and good wines. Very disappointed therefore to find it dark, empty and will a To Let sign. No hint that there might still be an online service. Pity and we’re sad. Many dozens of happy memories.
An interesting place in a cellar it’s a lovely atmosphere. I enjoyed most of the flavours and textures until I came to the sea bass. It was just disappointing. Had it not been for that, it would have been five star. Our waitress was friendly and we enjoyed our drinks as well.
Lovely little bar and eatery right in the harbour so perfect views
Staff was very friendly and seemed happy to be there
Got to try there cocktails there amazing flavors
Little bit dearer for some items but that the price you pay for quality
Popped back a few times whilst we stayed there last week

We’ve visited this lovely restaurant twice now and both times have been a great experience overall. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff, especially our waitress were friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious.
The only downside was that my medium rare steak arrived very cold, a bit disappointing given how good everything else was. That said, service was impressively fast both times, and we’ll definitely be back again.
We were staying (very) nearby so I booked for dinner on our first and last nights – without knowing anything about this place (other than it being dog friendly).
And it was brilliant! We enjoyed a beautifully-made cocktail with some of the best pub food I’ve ever had. (The beetroot salad was just incredible; my husband had it the next time we went for dinner!)
The ambience, location, decor, food, drinks and service are just fantastic. So good we not only had dinner there twice in a week, we also went for drinks in the gorgeous garden. And had an al fresco lunch the next day. (The best mussels my husband has ever had apparently.)
Well worth going out of your way for. And if you’re staying nearby it’s unmissable!
Excellent food, hot coffee and friendly, helpful staff make this a place I want to return to. I didn’t think they’d be open at 7am on Good Friday but I soon joined the queue! I thoroughly recommend this to future travellers.
Dropped in on a whistle stop, visit to town. We were drawn in by the look of the place which is very, inviting and by the option of a lunch time special
Originally we were told the special wasn't on, as it was a bank, holiday but they kindly decided to provide it as it was a quiet, period. We really appreciated this gesture
Food was very tasty and we all cleared our plates.
We would drop in here if in town again.
While this place is amazing in many ways there were a few things that bothered me.
1. The plates are an awkward shape, mine had a dip in the middle and the plate was supported only by this dip, meaning that cutting at the edge caused the plate to tip over.
2. The huge ice in the glass makes up for the small over priced drinks that are served.
3. Rice was charged seperatly.
However apart from the above you won't be dissapointed here. When I say the food is amazing it was! Staff, atmosphere were amazing. I recommend you visit if you are in Bath. Requesting the owner to consider the above recommendations.
