Pretty disastrous service today! You can wait up to two hours for two courses.

Lovely restaurant for its buzz and warm atmosphere. Food was so off the mark though. The hake was overcooked and dry and the tuna was both tiny portions and overcooked. Very disappointing at a restaurant where you spend £50 a head or more in the evening.

Went to here on Wednesday 19th march for dinner to celebrate my 60th birthday with 7 friends, everything was perfect, we were treated with complete professionalism from entering to leaving, the food was delicious and Cameron our waiter had a very challenging table of diners to deal with, me in particular! Shout out to the bar staff for making me a perfect dirty martini, actually so good had two! The evening was perfect and made my birthday a very memorable occasion, worth every penny and if Cameron needs counselling after dealing with us will pay for it! Huge shout out to Cotes in Clifton

Lovely little restaurant, cosy and atmospheric. The staff were friendly and impressive service, very quick despite being so busy they couldn't accept anyone else! The food was lovely, although steak was a little on the tough side but only fractionally and it still tasted great, the flavours complemented it well.

This restaurant is really great! The price is not expensive and the service attitude is also very good. I will come again next time. Victor's service was simply amazing!

A very unique place, but still nicely done. Food as always was great, and service was good, however I was sitting roght next to the stairs, very off putting when people brush past you. Won't stop me from coming back again though!

Popped in for breakfast on my birthday. Very quiet morning in the restaurant but a warm welcome and beautiful food. One of our regular haunts when we want decent food and hasn't disappointed yet! Good quality food cooked well at a price that makes sense. Highly recommended.

Service was very disappointing for the price. 08/02 Saturday evening service: we were waiting for our order to be taken and for our plates to be cleared and for our bill, all for well over 10 minutes. One server couldn’t handle our small section, they had the host step in and were chatting loudly at the host stand about the status of tables, pointing at them. “These guys are waiting for dessert, these guys are waiting to order”. The customers shouldn’t be able to hear or see this, very unprofessional. It seemed there was no manager on shift as staff were chatting and laughing behind the bar to each other on multiple occasions, this isn’t a bad thing of course but it feels disrespectful when you are actively waiting to be checked up on. I wanted to ask for more dressing in my salad but the server didn’t check up on our table once. Had to flag him down just to clear our plates after we’d been waiting for ages. We were sat in the main section so it’s not like they didn’t see us, felt ignored. Food and atmosphere was good but felt cheated by the slow service.

Even though Cote is a chain, this place feels like a ‘proper’ restaurant and the food and service are great. It was busy at Sunday lunchtime so we waited a while, but didn’t mind because why wouldn’t so many people want to have a fab lunch for a reasonable price? Excellent quality 😊

Côte is an absolute fave! It’s my go to for really good food and great atmosphere. Can’t get enough of the patchouli hand lotion in the bathroom *wink* Give it a try. I had the butter chicken the last time I was there and will definitely be having that again. A solid 10/10.

A taste of France in Clifton Village! What an atmospheric and amazing venue in the heart of Bristol. Our server, Victor was extremely helpful and anticipated our every needs during our meal - a true professional. Gorgeous food and wine to top off an overall amazing evening!

Found this spot by an impromptu google search looking for a good mimosa for my birthday. What a lovely setting. A few opportunities include consistency in customer centricity; waited a bit to place an order asking the host for service who wasn’t very polite though smiled with others, may be it was because I didn’t really blend in. The waiter was however warm and lovely along with the team who served my meal. The meal was nice, if from SA, almost at a Hussar grill level, with good flavours and a perfectly done steak. They also serve a 2/3 course option which provides good bang for buck. A real treat overall!

We had the Xmas set menu and it was delicious! I remembered to graphic a photo of my starter (comte and crab rarebit) and main (turkey roast). Everything tasted amazing. The service was the best and it didn't feel like we were waiting long between courses. I was unsure of the cinnamon ice cream with the chocolate fondant, but honestly, it was fantastic. Totally would recommend. The sunrise juice was also 👌

Absolutely beautiful meal! Victor from Portugal was amazing and took care of us all night! We had a lovely meal! I also have a nut allergy and was completely looked after and felt so comfortable! Would definitely recommend!

Second time dining at Côte. The first was dinner for my birthday and the second was lunch for my birthday. Both occasions we were promptly greeted, seated and service was impeccable. We had the French onion soup, squash tart, Camembert brûlée, salmon and every single dish was delicious. I’m flexitarian and there were ample veggie options! It is such a lovely place to dine. Absolutely 10/10 every time.

Six of us went there last night and we had a brilliant evening. A complimentary bottle of wine for our friends birthday was a good touch. Food was excellent, I had the turkey and it was superb. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was excellent even though they were really busy.We weren't kept waiting at all. Thank you Cotes for a lovely evening, compliments to staff.

For me this is the best quality/ value ratio in Bristol - it might be a chain but it's the closest thing to a proper french bistrot. We ate here Sunday night, prix fixe menu, received excellent service throughout and the food and wine were wonderful. Honestly a step above most Bristol restaurants right now. Highly recommended.

Update November 2024: Still great. Must try mushroom cassoulet: much more authentic than it sounds. Really delicious! Update March 2024: Refurbished Cote is better than ever. Great service, good food, any on Saturday lunchtime, what a buzz! At peak time, best book. Update: Breton chicken, really is their must try dish. Always thought chicken was dry boring and plain; how wrong could one be! Succulent, fragrant, and delicious. Dont miss it. Pleasant food, comfortable decor, attentive service with a dash of charm, and as good for breakfast or lunch as it is for supper. When in Bristol and you scratch your head as to where to go, there's always Cote. Wish there were a few more like it.

The food was absolutely amazing, high quality and worth the money! The thing that sets this restaurant apart from others is the service. All the staff were lovely and welcoming, with a unique knowledge of the food, but that absolute best was Mike who went above and beyond! We were celebrating a 26th birthday and Mike brought over a celebratory dessert without us asking as he over heard it was a birthday while taking away our plates!

It's a Cote , so you pretty much know what you are getting. It was fairly busy for a Monday night, but the service was quite quick and the staff were friendly . Unfortunately there was no Toulouse Sausage left, and they managed to being the wrong dessert for my wife, but otherwise it was OK.

Had Sunday lunch with a friend and it was fab. The food is always consistently good with a varied selection and the staff were funny and charming. Definitely going again before Christmas.

Loved it here so much that it’s going to be our go to place for celebration meals. Enjoyed the food and service. Easy to park outside.

I've visited here a few times and I'm always happy with the service and food. It's ever so slightly posh, without being unwelcoming. There seems to be plenty of tables and the staff are usually happy to accommodate seating requests (e.g. in the sun, somewhere quiet, with a bit of space!) The food is way above any other 'walk in' breakfast/ brunch type place. I especially like the french toast. Although I've booked a couple times when I've been in a group (4-8 people), I've never been turned away without a booking when it's just me or me + 1. My only gripe, and this isn't a reflection of Cote is that last time i visited, there was a table of loud, obnoxious, sweary people quite near us. I'm sure they annoyed us as much as the staff..!! Cost wise. It's not 'cheap'. But I'd definitely say it's good value for money considering the quality of the food and service. Feels like a treat going there, so I try to limit how often I visit!

Booked a table of 10 for my daughter’s 25th birthday. As first timers to Cote we didn’t know what to expect but what a pleasant surprise, spacious table settings (I hate being squeezed in), lovely helpful waiter, great and varied menu choice and plenty of drink options. Starters were delicious as were the main course with empty plates all around the table. At £400 including service the price is about right for this quality. My only slight negative on the afternoon was the time between starter and main course but as we were having a nice family chat it doesn’t deserve to be marked down for this small issue. one of the fancier meals we had in the UK, we were on tour so i don’t know how much the meal was. calamari was delicious, so were the mushrooms on bread (tasted like yummy mushroom soup!). chicken with fries & mushrooms was pretty good, chicken was on the dry side. chocolate mousse was the best thing i’ve ever had 💘 ice cream & crepes were mid. service was pretty good & the restaurant was beautifully furnished.

We recently visited as a party of 7 for Dinner on Saturday. It was pretty full and in general it was a lovely and pleasant atmosphere. What let it down was the general attentiveness of the waiting staff. The waiter who took our order was ok but anyone else we dealt with were awful, especially the waiter trying to describe the dessert menu with zero enthusiasm.There was no asking 'how is everything', no coming back to ask if we wanted more drinks or anything else, no general interaction unless we requested it. Having to constantly wave my hand in the air to get attention. We were not offered any bread so had to ask for it and guess they expect you to eat off the table without side plates and when it arrived there was enough butter for one slice !! Even then when we asked for another basket it never turned up, No recommendations for appetisers by the waiting staff, they take your order and go. For me everyone was in the wrong job that evening. In all honesty the food was just ok but seriously lacking flavour. The salmon Bernaise fillet was tiny and worthy of a starter and nothing special. The Breton Chicken I remember used to be excellent but is now just ok. Portion sizes have reduced considerably .Sorry never going back nor is anyone else from our party and expensive for size of portions. Have left review with Cote as well.

We all love it. But the bill was way to high! £120 for 4.5 of us to eat and drink. £30 each is very high.

This is my new favourite restaurant. Tasteful decor and a lovely ambience make a cozy setting. The food is always a cut above other restaurants (thank you Cotê!) and above all, the service is absolutely exceptional. Not overbearing and just the right amount of attentiveness. Every single person who works here who I have encountered is a professional and really makes the experience special. I've already been for breakfast, lunch and dinner and will certainly be returning very soon. Keep up the great work, and thank you!

A gold star because the meals were fantastic. I had my family there to celebrate my 60th. We all enjoyed the amazing meals. Especially fish pie is heavenly. Def go again.

We had a super meal. We go to cote about every 6-8 weeks. It’s my favourite restaurant in Clifton. Always great food. The atmosphere is great, and the staff are excellent. Our server was Klaudia. She was very attentive, polite and just lovely.

The vegan burger was not as good as it was when we visited before and the tomato salad was just badly prepared

Overall great experience but we left with mixed feelings. Surprisingly the food was not the most outstanding. The service was very good, very friendly staff balancing in a great way high class etiquette and the easy friendly vibe. The food was tasty but half of the dishes and drinks we had, had some ingredients that just didnt fit the taste. For example Crème Brûlée was great but the sauce on top was super weird and not matching. As a dessert it should have a great final touch but it was very disappointing. The creme caramel on the other hand was perfect but the plating wasnt very impressive looking at all the other dishes as it was just floating in a sauce which wasnt easy to eat from a plate. The mains we had were great, the salmon was perfect with the fries and green salad. But the spinach side was also one of the weird tastes. The starter with baguettes and some tomatoes also had unusual dressing so we didnt eat the tomatoes at all. And unfortunately, I must add that the place needs some cleaning as there were alot of food pieces under many of the tables, including ours.

This is a beautiful restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. Unfortunately, we were there on one of the busiest nights because of the Balloon Festival nearby. The team were clearly busy and it took a total of 1.5 hours to get served (yes, genuinely, we walked in at 20.30 and ate at 21.55). However, the team were so lovely, the drinks flowing and the atmosphere convivial that we didn't really mind! It's a great place and I definitely recommend booking!

My friend and I visited and were given a QR to scan and leave feedback but it didn’t work so thought we would do it here instead. Our food was amazing and all of the staff were lovely, especially Hayden who was our waiter. He was absolutely great and we were very impressed by his ability to clear all of the plates off our table in one go! Very impressive!

Overall, the food was good. However, the vegetarian main dish arrived after all other diners had finished eating. Was supposed to be aubergine parmigiana. No aubergine in sight. Looked like the tomato soup he'd had for his starter with added beans. Deducted from the bill, but not great!

Cote Clifton is the best Cote I visit. The service is outstanding, the quality of food is great and the atmosphere is welcoming. Service was a tiny bit slow on this visit but they were busy so it was expected. Tibor is fantastic and always looks after us, we will always highly recommend this Cote

We are usually fans of Côte and have eaten in many across the country including this one on several occasions. It was well below par and the manager was also not to the usual standard and came across as insincere.

No mussels or salmon available. Ratatouille was all about baked beans and the aubergines and peppers were cut so fine that it was difficult to distinguish. The menu hardly ever changes.

Perfect early dinner birthday treat. Service was excellent, food great, atmosphere buzzing & happy and lovely drinks. Truffle chip upgrade was a great call too👍 What more could anyone want!? We will return😁

I asked for a very well done steak, intentionally repeated it several times only to get a little attitude from the waiter then my steak comes no where near well done. They seem to be doing me a favour by getting me another well done one so I asked that they please dont bother. If stares and facial expressions could kill 😂

Visited on Saturday for my daughter’s (5th) birthday before she had a show nearby and whole visit was lovely from start to finish. Staff made extra special effort for my daughter without any prompting - I thought very sweet. Adults had the set menu (2 courses £17.95) and everyone said how tasty it was. I had the charcuterie and chicken, sauce was delicious. My husband would have preferred the main slightly larger, but perfect size for me! I hadn’t visited for maybe 10 years and mainly chose because of ease of location for us, but I was impressed with the interiors, staff and food. Will return.

Our favourite spot in Bristol...Not any more...❌ Dirty plates and non existent service... Very sad having to do this. My wife and I reserved a table for Friday night at our Favourite Cote restaurant. For the past six years, we have enthusiastically recommended this place to our friends and colleagues and have dined here dozens of times ourselves. We return frequently for our favorite dishes and the lively, cozy atmosphere. However, our experience today was disappointing. We arrived early and were informed that our table was not ready. Instead of being invited to sit at the bar for a drink, we were offered a table either at the very front near the toilet (which we had previously requested not to be seated at) or at the very back, which we reluctantly accepted. Unfortunately, we quickly realized that the service in this area was neglectful. A runner took our order, and another person inquired about our drink preferences. We were never brought water and had to request it, which the waitress then forgot. My wife ordered mussels for her main course and was given a fork and knife; we had to ask and wait for a spoon after the meal was served. We also had to request salt and pepper because both the mussels and the crab mayonnaise were bland and lacked basic seasoning. We found ourselves waiting repeatedly: for the waitress, the spoon, and then the salt. It was frankly frustrating. What we find incomprehensible is the inclusion of a service fee when the service provided was clearly subpar. We did not receive the usual level of hospitality, and more concerningly, my wife's starter was served on a dirty plate. Her starter arrived on a plate that was visibly stained and had an unpleasant "dish cloth" odor. After a brief discussion, we attributed this to a possible dishwasher issue and the plate being improperly cleaned. However, the dish itself also had a foul taste, which was completely off-putting. The server attempted to rectify the situation by removing my wife's drink from the bill. However, I want to emphasise that the issue is not the cost but rather the poor service and disappointing food hygiene. The question to ask is the staff overloaded with work? why allow bookings if there is not enough staff to cover the whole area of the restaurant? Our evening was spoiled and if we knew that we will not be accommodated appropriately we would have chosen another place. As simple, as that. JUSTIFICATION for the ratings: FOOD: calamari was too salty, mussels and crab Maison bland(no salt and pepper). Steak and peppercorn source perfect as per usual. SERVICE: the waitress that served us tried to rectify the issue and apologised for the issues that, clearly aren't her fault. ATMOSPHERE: we have previously informed the staff that we do not wish to be offered a seat at the very front or back of the restaurant, this especially being next to the toilets. We were seated at the very back today and there was no atmosphere there at all for our liking.
