Fabulous views and a relaxed vibe. The 15 minute walk along the canal from the car park is level and scenic. You can also get there by boat from Topsham. Gets very busy on summer weekends and is shut weekdays Jan-Mar. A great place for lunch, dinner, coffee indoors or out.

Such a welcome break after a long walk along the canal. The guys serving were great despite the pub being busy, the food was amazing and served quickly. Would definitely recommend

I visited on the Supper Club night having pre booked, so this was not a usual evening at the Turf. The staff were, as ever, welcoming, attentive (without being in your face) and efficient. The highlight was the food. A superbly thought out menu cooked to an exceptionally hight standard by the Chef, Rupert. Would heartily recommend.

Great food, lovely service and a brilliant location. Can't wait to spend some summer days here this year.

My brother booked a table for a family Sunday lunch for 8 of us today. They were super busy as the sun was shining and lots of walk ins but that did not affect us receiving amazing service throughout. The Roast dinners were epic, staff friendly and atmosphere perfect. Thank you for a lovely visit we will all be back

Turf is beautiful and if you get there at the right time the food is great. But it just pains me the kitchen closes so early.

Lovely pub on the Ex estuary, especially nice as the only patrons are walkers or cyclists, there is no road access (at least we didn't see any cars) but if you have a boat you could definitely find somewhere to moor it

Beautiful place to stop. The view of the lock and the estuary is a perfect place to indulge in some top food. We had the ploughman's which was all fresh and tasty. Some friends ordered some hot food that looked amazing and, according to them, tasted as good as it looked. We will return soon

We only bought drinks but it was very good. Perfect location. Great atmosphere.

Absolutely fantastic! This is an amazing little venue that has to be experienced if you're in the area. The nearest car park is a mile away - so it's one for the walkers, albeit their is a road that you could use to drop someone off if you absolutely had to. The bar staff were all super friendly and engaging, serving a great range of beer, ale and other drinks. There's a good sized food menu, without being too long, and the food itself is amazing. Superbly cooked fish and chips and a burger for us - amazing pub food. Be sure to book a table on a sunny day - we visited on a Friday and all the tables inside were booked out. We'll worth a visit for anyone nearby!

New owners have killed this place. What a mess, carnage, no staff, massive waits, dirty plates everywhere. Sad to see. Still a great location potty about the management.

Excellent food, definitely worth a visit

Without a shadow of a doubt 'the' most disabled unfriendly pub/restaurant in Devon that I have ever had the misfortune to visit. No disabled parking, in fact no parking whatsoever!! When I inquired about accessibility etc I was simply informed that there was 'parking available up the road' - over a Kilometer away..... Really great if you are an amputee or wheelchair user huh? Can't comment about the food, drink or service - although I wasn't made to feel very welcome anyway, so I didn't bother. As an aside the access route to the pub in a vehicle is lousy, unless you are driving a 4x4. If you have a disability etc then give this place a miss.

Great place for drinks or food. Beautiful in all weathers, but especially in summer watching the sunset. Highly recommend their Supper Club or Sunset Sessions

The location is amazing. However, staff made no attempt whatsoever to clear tables the whole time I was here. This photo is just one example of many tables. Staff walked past regularly or only collected drinks glasses. Wind was blowing rubbish into the estuary. Do you not care about the environment?

Had a lovely cider by the water. Took the boat across from Topsham. Really nice little trip to a great pub. Would recommend during a fine summer day.

What a superb place for a pub right on the estuary with ferry to Topsham. Walk or cycle no cars. Very nice indeed on the lawns outside

Arrived late morning and was only for a coffee and a piece of cake. Partner had never been here and tbh it's been too long since I last was. Will look to go down again soon for a few drinks and some food.

Ok, parking is a challenge and you will need to walk to get there, but the views are so wonderful it's a joy. You have a choice between their outdoor menu... Barbeque food or indoor more traditional dishes, either way you're sure to enjoy, all served by friendly and polite staff. It really is such a lovely venue more than worth visiting again and again.

Great location with lovely views. Gentle flat cycle ride with a pint at the end to look forward to. Staff very friendly. Didn't do their outside BBQ when we were there and so limited meal as shown on their website. Children's meal not much smaller and was enough for us (light meal).

Hearty food, friendly service and loads of space inside and out.

Great place to end a nice long walk along the canals. Plenty of outdoor space with ample seating either facing the estuary or canal. Inside is also very quaint with lots of little areas to sit within.

Great experience at the Turf this afternoon Setting just perfect to eat outside or in, great service and food! All staff very friendly. Menu with good selection and price point very reasonable. Has to be one of the undiscovered gems in Devon, very busy which again is a great sign, so would recommend booking prior to visit. Will definitely return here perhaps with overnight stay now hotel part have also recently opening up. 10/10 Highly recommended !

An absolute beautiful setting, a very easy going and relaxed atmosphere with polite and efficient staff. The service from when we arrived was friendly and welcoming from everyone. The food was speedy service, hot and delicious. Would defo reccomend and we will be sure to be back soon :)!

Lovely location which I've been visiting for over 50 years, however we had an extremely disappointing monkfish Thai green curry. Tasteless fish, undercooked and inappropriate vegetables and a total absence of the taste of thai

One of only 3 pubs in the country that you can’t drive to, you have to walk, bike or arrive by boat! Lovely gardens to sit in with deck chairs to fully relax with a very nice pint of beer or cider. Lovely place to spend a relaxing afternoon by the water.

Only had a couple of pints, but as nice as ever. There aren't many pubs as good as this when the weather's nice.

I had the monkfish, green Thai curry, all fresh veg, cooked to perfection, really delicious. The others has veg and beef burger. They all liked it very much

I've never had a bad experience here. Food and drink are great. Location is beautiful. Staff are very friendly and polite. Perfect on a Sunny day after a cycle.

A lovely walk along the estuary to a buzzing pub!

We stopped off today at your lovely premises for a spot of food and a pint. The overall experience was lovely just one thing. Your cheesy chips need a cheese that actually tastes.

Great place to take a wander or bike ride to. Not easily accessible by car but a fabulous walk to an even more amazing pub. The new owners have upped the offering and it’s a fantastic stop in the sunshine. The garden is huge and there’s ample space for all. Idyllic location on the water

Great location. You can walk from St Clement’s church, Nice 1 1/4 mile stroll along the Ex. Great chips, but disappointed by ‘Jerk’ Chicken burger. OK chicken but no Jerk! Sunday roast pretty poor

Hardest driest carrot cake I've ever had

On two separate occasions we have walked from Starcross to The Turf. Lovely walk lovely views. We were hungry and thirsty and looking forward to sampling the hospitality. Reception at venue not at all welcoming. Stood in line for service and no eye contact or acknowledgement, people were also served around us. After a fair wait, we were so disappointed we didn't stay to order. Very unfriendly and unwelcoming. ☹️

The beer queue is enormously long at lunchtimes.

Just had some hot drinks mid morning. Lovely location and landlord(s) really friendly. Will come back

Great to see the Turf open early in the year. The drizzle didn't deter, lots of geese to see on the walk there. A rammed warm bar, table by the fire, a good pint of Devon cider and local fish and chips to dry out and warm up. Love it

We had a fabulous evening at the Friday supper club. The set menu and wine pairing was exceptional (huge bonus for some local wines!) and the staff went out of their way to ensure we had the perfect evening. Such a great idea providing transport for the evening and this made the experience even more enjoyable not having to worry about taxis or trains! I’m already excited to book another evening and trying a new menu.

Just had beer and crisps. They had nice tunes on in the background and jail ale on tap.

Visited for the Friday Night Supper Club. Superb four course dinner - all four courses were excellent, service was friendly, and there was a short but good wine list. Price included minibus transport from local pickup points in villages either side of the Exe estuary. Not cheap but really good value for money. Highly recommended.

Fabulous location friendly staff and atmosphere

Such a unique place, over looking the beautiful estuary of the river Exe, with great food, service & atmosphere. We cycled there on the brilliant cycle path from Starcross & had lunch indoors with some of the best views in the area. A must visit.

We walked along the river estuary to the turf pub and enjoyed the fresh air on boxing day.

We've been cycling here for over 40 years and when Clive and Jinny sold to a 'local' we hoped it would remain characterfull!. We finally managed to pop in and were greeted warmly by Mark, a proper pint of Jail Ale and a very interesting menu. Cue food order. My wife had a delicious garlic portobello mushroom with ratatouille and goats cheese main and I chose the smoked haddock poached egg spinach starter which was spot on! We gave some feedback to Mark about the main course seeming a bit small and didn't expect anything in return but he came back to us and told us the chef was very sorry but they had sent out a starter size and he would be happy to serve that again free or let us choose a dessert on the house! What a great team at The Turf!

Stunning food at a wake I went to, really tasty and delicious

My husband and I walked to The Turk from Countesswear. It was a lovely walk and the scenery at the Turf is beautiful. We sat outside for a drink to enjoy the view. The atmosphere in The Turf was lovely, staff are always friendly and helpful. It's a beautiful pub and a lovely place to sit with friends. Highly recommended.

A friendly welcome after a long walk and spectacular views over the Ex estuary.

Very friendly reception and super lunch. Delicious soup and toastie. St Austell Tribute Pale Ale the works. The geographical situation is unique - at the end of the Exeter ship canal with a few dozen yachts moored outside and NO CARS! It's 16 minutes walk from the car park at the end of Station road Exminster. The building appears to be 18th century and the interior is utterly charming. See photos

Lovely little inn by the canal with plenty of cosy spaces indoors and ample garden seating outdoors. Fantastic food at reasonable prices served by friendly folk. 5 stars!
