The Chough Bakery in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We have always loved The Chough Bakery and this year's visit was no exception! We managed to visit twice in a week and worked our way through the different pasties, with sausage rolls and brownies too. The lady who served us even put the food in our bag in such a way that meant the brownie would be warm and gooey from the warmth of the pasties by the time we'd walked to the beach to eat them! Everything was amazing, and we can't wait to go back!

Two 'Cornish Saffron cakes" & 4 buns made by The Chough bakery were purchased at the Cornish Shop, Waitrose, Truro. They were dry, chewy. had very few currants and no flavour of saffron. Being born & bred in Cornwall we regularly had home made saffron cakes. I appreciate home made is different from bought but these were awful and very disappointing. I was more shocked by the label of ingredients (photo attached). I know saffron is expensive but I would rather pay more and have the real thing. I am unable to see how these cakes can be labeled "Cornish Saffron cakes" when they bear no resemblance to them. I note others buying direct at the bakery say they were good. Do the bakery sell an inferior product to supermarkets??

Probably the best pasties in Cornwall. Located bang opposite the harbour on the corner, excellent staff and service. Pasties are delicious and bursting with flavour. Wish I'd bought some home now. Maybe next time. Try with confidence.

Popped in today to pick up a cheese and onion pasty and steak ale… came away hugely disappointed. Both were barely even luke warm and really tasteless. We tried them a few months ago also (that was hot and we ordered the blue cheese and steak pasty) - it seriously lacked blue cheese. We won’t be back for a third try.

If anyone asks, my recommendation is always that Chough is the place to go for a pasty in Cornwall. My family always used to go and now I take others to get a pasty and eat it on the harbour too. I will keep returning every time I’m in Cornwall.

Perfection ,tried other pasties , from other famous bakers . This bakery is producing pasties better than any other in Cornwall , delicious… If you have tried the rest , now try the BEST ! They also deliver .

We visit here every year as part of our annual trip to Cornwall and it’s a must do stop to stock up on Saffron Buns and Cakes which are delicious. This year, the always helpful staff, went above and beyond when they baked a special baguette for our daughter after she was upset that they sold out. In her words “the best baguette ever”

Me and my brother walked into Chough bakery and bought a sausage and bacon cob with 2 hot chocolates and the staff were AMAZING and HELPFUL. Loved the food and staff

Amazing pasties, bacon rolls, coffee, service....... I could live in this place❤️. I always look forward to having a lovely, quality, generous bacon roll here on Mayday. Tried a chough pasty for the 1st time just few weeks ago and was blown away. Perfect pasty, loads of meat, perfect veg, seasoning and great pastry. Great work CHOUGH 😍

We tried a pasty in every town we visited in Cornwall and this was hands down the best. Great pastry, packed full of flavour. The smell of the fresh bread in the morning was unbelievable.

Chough bakery never disappoints when it comes to pasties, sandwiches and cakes. We dropped by for some pasties and one of their legendary date and oat slices and as usual the quality was outstanding.

On holiday with 3 generations of Family for a week at Easter. Great Tasty Pastry ideal for eating on the harbour. Happy Days

Pasty Time! Delicious, home made and so much better than the shops at the "walk of pasties" just at the back. Very friendly and just right!

Lots of choice for the family apart from only one vegan option for those who are dairy free and it being Merlot and I think vegetables felt an odd choice but that was the only let down. The other members of the party had a delicious array of pasties from traditional Cornish to a blue cheese and steak which was apparently delicious. A wide selection of breads and cakes available too! It was very busy and popular with tourists due to them being on the harbour front but you can see why with the items being delicious.

Best pastie I’ve ever had. I went for the steak and ale one. Reheated wonderfully in the oven in only 20 minutes (bought at lunch for dinner). Also served hot if you want eat at time of buying just be cautious of seagulls.

Had the pleasure of popping into this little place today , cheerful lad on counter , really friendly. I treated myself to a mature cheese and onion pasty , gluten free as I’m coeliac. Cooked in its own bag and was handed over separately. It was so hot it was like carrying a little hot water bottle whilst it cooled down. Would defiantly stop by again if in the area.

so disappointed today...we had 5 medium pasties....the lad who served us...20's with buzz cut was delighted as he said that was the last so he could go home. 3 of the 5 were gristley and under seasoned.. I went back after and complained...not looking for refund just wanted to say how disappointed we were ...I even took him aside so as not to complain in front of other customers... he literally could not have given a damn....if this is the attitude no wonder they haven't won an award for years and we will be getting our pasties elsewhere in future and telling our friends and colleagues to do likewise.

Nice looking medium size pasties, however the percentage of meat was certainly below the minimum of 12.5% required by the Cornish Pasty Association for it to be a true pasty. They were tasty enough, but the two we had would have been more at home on the vegitarian shelf! A dissappointing experience!

Always go here for our pasty but on the last few occasions the pasties came out Luke warm nearly cold 😖. Very disappointed especially when we asked for hot ones! Will go elsewhere now, like many others have said. Sorry chough you need to up your game to keep your loyal customers happy .

Best pasty I’ve ever tasted! Recommended by my brother in law who’s had their pasties delivered home in the past, so popped in while in Padstow for the day. Took pasties and scones back to the accommodation for tea and loved every bite. Beautiful light scones and well seasoned pasties, pay them a visit if ever in Padstow, you won’t be disappointed.

Used to be the best pasty shop in Padstow however, the pasties were luke warm (at best) on our first visit. Giving it the benefit of the doubt we tried again a couple of days later but they were cold again.

The Cornish pasty was lovely , the little man loved his sausage roll, my cheese and onion and leek one was lovely . But a special mention to the lady who served us , even though it was very busy she was very friendly and helpful (don’t know her name) even joked about who the gingerbread monster being for dad

We regularly stay in Padstow. One of our favourite things is the fabulous Cornish’s Pasty’s bread and cakes from the Cough Bakery. We love the pasty’s that much we ordered some frozen ones to savour at home. What a huge disappointment. They don’t seem to bear any similarities to those we’ve bought hot from the bakery in the town. Hardly any meat at all, one pasty had just two tiny pieces of tough meat. No swede or the usual pepper just layers of potato. None of the pasty’s we got were tasty or enjoyable. What’s going on?

Tried a few different Cornish pasties and this place wins hands down. Beef us tender, potato is sliced and lot of flavour. Tried a cocktail one first and ordered bunch more. Gets busy so beat the rush, pre-order, pay and come back to collect.

Amazing fresh pasties, really good latte and the sausage rolls are out of this world. Would 100% recommend and will go back tomorrow!

I do wonder whether Alex Polizzi needs to revisit. I have made a point of buying a pasty in previous years, now I’m not so sure. Just 2 pieces of meat left me disappointed, and that opinion was shared by at least 5 people eating their pasties on the harbour wall . Come on guys… could do better !!

Our favourite bakery in Padstow. From pasties to French sticks and scones. All lovely! Very busy, but worth the wait. Also perfect for takeout cup of tea/coffee.

Pasties don’t get better than this, highly recommend a traditional Cornish pasty and a doughnut…. Watch out for the seagulls though

The best bakery in Padstow in my opinion! Made a visit especially to grab a pasty and the billionaire brownie and it did not disappoint, had to buy extra to take home with us!

We've been visiting Padstow, and Cornwall for around a decade. The Chough Bakery produce in our opinion the best Cornish Pasty around. Being from with Wigan area we've had a pie or two in our lives. They're not cheap, but they're not small either, you're getting a full meal. The staff serving at the shop are without exception great, helpful and efficient.

Chough bakery still makes the finest sausage roll money can buy. And the pasties are spot on too. As are the slices of quiche.

Used to be the best pasty in town, what has gone wrong. Had my usual steak and blue and it had a very sour taste. Took it back and to be fair the young man was apologetic and replaced it. I then had a traditional one, but this was just as bad, not sour but very tasteless and the pastry was soft. Very disappointing. Will give them one more try, then if no better will unfortunately have to find another place to get them from!

As I work in Padstow, I heavily rely on the quick services that each and every bakery offer in order to have a comfortable lunch break. I'm not one for writing reviews. However, after waiting for roughly 16 minutes for something to be warmed up, I am not impressed. I could easily see 2-3 members of staff standing around by the ovens chatting and on phones while Front of house staff jumped from one thing to another. The only reason I even received my food when I did, was thanks to a lady on the till enquiring as to why I was waiting. Unfortunately I am now left with a burnt rock solid lunch and no time to eat it. Needless to say I am unhappy with my experience today and will most likely refrain from coming back unless necessary. Apologies to the rest of the team that do so well, I wouldn't be writing this if it wasn't for them letting you down. Normally 5/5 :(

Sadly, it looks as though ‘cost of production’ has hit Choughs pasties. I had the usual traditional steak as did my partner and another we where with. I just thought I may have got a pastie with an odd and unusual lack of meat but...

Bacon and sausage rolls burnt to a crisp this morning and so salty it made me feel ill. They must have known it was burnt when they gave it to us! If we had been able they would certainly have been returned. Poor service and...

Best pasties, cakes and bread! Super delicious - Highly recommend! They also serve hot drinks. Delicious vegan pasty too! Hold on to your pasties leaving though - the seagulls WILL take a chance and swoop!

There are a number of these shops in Padstow but this one has really great food and is reasonably priced even for July in the height of the tourist season.

Been going to Padstow for years and Chougjs were a regular experience. But this weekend we went twice and both times “hot pasties” were far from hot. Would struggle to say they were even warm! How hard can it me to keep the pasties hot...

Chough used to be one of the best for pasties but recently not so good and today they were awful. Not fully cooked pastry raw and absolutely no seasoning whatsoever in them. More care needs to be taken these pasties are not cheap!

Came in for a coffee and left with a latte, hot choc, almond croissant and cream tea. No regrets! The two women who served us were so friendly, spoke to our young children and even gave them small cups of leftover hot chocolate. All delicious!

We entered the empty Chough bakery and were ignored, so much so a woman walked in after and was served immediately with a smile. We were treated like we had come in and vomited all over the floor. We bought the pasty and left. But...

Delicious cakes and generous portions - you won’t feel short changed here ! Love the Bakewell and treacle tart . Highly recommend .

I think the lid must have fallen off the pepper pot when they made this egg sandwich. The only saving grace was that a seagull stole half of it. I hope it doesn’t sneeze too badly.

The pasties are that bad even Ginsters laugh. Recently visited Padstow and bough 2 rather overpriced pasties from the Chough bakery. They were absolutely rotten, very little meat , tasteless and well overpriced. Avoid at all costs

Poor quality pasties with very little meat and far too much pepper. Pastry wasn’t great either which is a real Shame as we were told it was award winning.

This used to be a good bakery but now is just a pasty ang lunch takeaway. I purchased a loaf of bread on 9 October that had best before 4 October I returned it to the shop and it seed all similar loves we’re out...

Definitely the best pasties in Padstow, plenty of filling in our medium size pasty, very tasty and not greasy pastry. Just perfect for us.

Apparently Chough Bakery won a prize in 2016, but not with the pasties we just had. Pastry partly raw, and some unusually large chunks of steak - all in all a disappointing snack.

We had superb sausage/bacon breakfast baps here three or so days in a row. We also had pasties, cakes, coffee and other things. The best bakery in Padstow, and mostly because of cheerful and friendly staff.

Friendly staff serving good buns and bread in a unflashy bakery (and there are some overly flashy bakeries in Padstow). Grabbed some essential saffron buns which were delicious. Easy to find as they are on the main harbour front. Strongly recommended

This bakery enjoys an excellent reputation for its pasties and this is spot-on. The pasties are well made with light pastry and plenty of filling. They are reasonably priced too. Good efficient service as well.

Always been pleased with the pasties from the Chough, ordered many boxes for delivery by post. This last delivery the pasties are now sold and delivered uncooked frozen, pasties. Pasties are defrosted by the time they have been delivered, pasties didn’t come with any cooking...

I ordered a sausage roll and steak and blue cheese pastry. My son enjoyed his sausage roll but the pasty had less meat than we had on previous purchases from this bakery and what meat there was was grisly.

Pasties poor quality. Not enough meat in traditional pasty mainly potato. Saffron buns more like rock cakes and can not buy less than pack of 4

If you are in Padstow you have to pop in here. We always come and pick up a pasty (or two) for our lunch whilst out walking. Always excellently tasting pasties with plenty of options if you want something different to a traditional one.

We were recommended to come to Choughs Bakery and we thoroughly enjoyed our traditional Cornish Pasties. My husband had a regular one and mine was gluten free and they were delicious.
