A excellent place for a FISH meal - got what we wanted and a good selection, had 2 meals here both superb- Moules on fist night and Gunard steaks on second - others had Plaice and Scallops all were first class. Prices acceptable and wine /beer available. Would recommend and Ed the manager very friendly and good service.

We visited for a family meal and Ed was amazing. I have dietary requirements and normally find something on a menu but never very exciting. Once Ed realised this he went the extra mile and spoke to the chef and between them I was made to feel very special and had a lovely meal. All other members of the party thoroughly enjoyed their food as well and even Max the dog was made to feel special. Thank you so much Ed wished we lived closer but we will return. P S. great music

Called in on spec and were fortunate enough that they could find us a table. So friendly and welcoming. Food was superb, the menu choices were amazing but went with the host’s recommendation of some beautiful sea bream. A stunning perfectly cooked meal. Highly recommended 👌

We had an really good quality fresh seafood at Sam's. Just what you'd want for a seaside restaurant but something you don't always get. The staff are lovely and attentive, especially the manager/owner who looks after you really well.

Great little bistro in the increasingly popular town of Fowey. A great selection of home made burgers with a whopping king size for the very hungry. My burger was great although we also had scampi which was a little bland, but overall a good meal in a pleasant 'music themed' environment. Staff very friendly and helpful but you do need to book as it does get busy. We would recommend for burger and a beer any time.

Plenty of fish options (not all battered). Sam’s bistro offers a full menu and our corner booth was spacious with a private feel. An unexpected find worth a test drive! Lunch for two with some alcohol is shy £100. Moules as a shared starter was great.

Food was Fabulous. Manager was nice and friendly. Birthday Banners put out as one of us had a birthday. Waitress, miserable. Don't think she smiled once. Didn't make us feel welcome. Obviously, hospitality is not the job for her. Don't know how she would cope if it was busy

This is a really lovely restaurant. The food is excellent. We mainly tried the fish options, which were very fresh and well prepared. The atmosphere was really welcoming. All the staff were so friendly, and Ed the manager, just made the whole experience truly wonderful.

Outstanding food in terms of both quality and quantity, served with a smile. The lunch offer on Friday for two courses, for £20, was excellent value. I had the sardines on toast followed by mussels, both dishes were superb. My wife was equally pleased.

Our very dear friends invited us down to Sam's for lunch. The hours journey was well worth it. The food was good, the attention given to the diners to make sure they were happy was also good. The whole experience of this place for our first time was very satisfying. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

Worth a visit. Nice atmosphere and pleasant staff. The food was tasty, but my bouillabaisse was spoiled by the keynote flavour being chilli and a complete lack of the traditional fennel flavour, which one would expect, and I enjoy. There's no mention of this on the menu, and I would not have ordered it if it had.

We rang a couple of hours ahead of our visit , to check if it was ok to bring a dog . We were seated a little way away from another family as it was fairly quiet . I was so pleasantly surprised to have such good seafood, cooked to perfection, it’s the best meal out I have had for a couple of years. My dog was well behaved so no problem. We were well behaved, and the service was amazing, thank you !

Popped in for some dinner after Soa day and the lasagne was amazing, stir fry with bubbles burger was sublime and the relish - could be bottled! Ed was amazing and so friendly fitting us in despite being booked .

Nice place and very nice staff, but insanely overpriced. 12 calamari rings on a tiny salad for £18? Not worth it.

Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Sam’s. The range of dishes on the menu is good, plus specials, and the service was friendly and attentive . We shared garlic bread, olives, hummus and french stick to start, followed by bouillabaisse and pork schnitzel, which were delicious. The only disappointment was that the overriding flavour of the bouillabaisse sauce was chilli, and not fennel as I expected, so unfortunately it lacked the traditional taste. I like chilli, but would have chosen another dish had I known. Why does a chef change the flavour of a great French dish and leave out one which diners would naturally anticipate? This was a great shame, because the seafood content (and quantity) was very good. I noted that another reviewer had the same experience with a different dish, so it would help if the menu descriptions made it clearer. My wife has an allergic reaction to chilli, so had she ordered bouillabaisse, we’d have sent the dish back. This was a vacation visit, and we’d certainly make another visit to a Sam's when we’re are down that way. Two courses each and a couple of drinks came to about £72.00, so it was good value for money.

We've been to Fowey for years and always have our dog with us, but we'd never been to Sam's because we assumed it wasn't dog friendly. In fact, it is. We were there on a cold late November evening, but, even then, it was popular. Service was very friendly and the menu is really varied. We all had great meals and desserts, and we'll definitely be back in the future!

Place was empty. She squeezed us in because there big group due in. Many people turned up & were turned away. Saw 4 people turn up. That was a big group 🤣 ordered 2 x fish & chips. Red wine + a coke. The meals arrived. Fish was small. I thought it might be a child’s meals. Then when I came to pay I had been charged for a bottle of wine. Not a glass.

We visited in recommendation from a friend whilst staying in Fowey. So glad we did; we both had a burger, they were huge and so tasty and came with chips salad and coleslaw. We go to Bookoos often and can definitely say Burgers at Sams we’re far better… in taste, size and value for money. We hadn’t booked and was a busy Friday night but they got us a table with no hassle and all the staff were brilliant. We’ll have to come back for sure.

Early dinner on rainy November night - lucky to get table so booking recommended. Mixed starters of Thai red red mullet (lovely), seafood trio starter and seafood feast ( mussels,prawns,calamari, sardines) for one . All excellent - very good service and lovely atmosphere .

Last week we had a meal at Sam’s in Fowey and ordered a dish which we had had before, and then it was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately this time the sauce had added chilli which was not mentioned on the menu board, nor at the time of ordering. As a result the sauce was not really edible and spoilt the whole dish. We brought this to the attention of the waiting staff once we had tasted the meal and, after a visit to the kitchen, were informed that the chilli was in the fennel and therefore could not be altered, this really made no sense to us. Overall we were extremely disappointed with the meal, the level of interest shown in our dissatisfaction, and their attempts to justify the presence of so much chilli. So, if you’re wanting the Gurnard and don’t like chilli, be sure to check when ordering!

We had a lovely meal at Sam’s once we could get a table booked… it is very busy so you need to book several days in advance in peak season. Food was great and the staff were very friendly. Fowey is lovely to walk around also.

Our host Ed was off the charts good. The local scallops were fresh and wonderful as a starter period the clear Boullabaisse main was wonderful as was my wifes surf and turf. Washed down with two bottles of sea change wines from New Zealand. A perfect evening. I think this is easily the best place in the Fowey for a pleasant and lively dinner.

Super food with a vibrant atmosphere to match. The service is impeccable and all of this with some dog friendly seating thoughtfully located in the main restaurant area but not compromising the dining experience for those not liking our furry friends. The mussels were succulent and plump. The surf and turf burger meal was probably the best we have ever eaten matched by the hot work fish dishes. Really, it is hard to recommend one plate because they are all very good. Come with a healthy appetite and leave happy !

Nice food good selection. Kids loved the atmosphere and the 80s music. Food was above average. I think sea food is the thing to go for / it’s speciality - menu very large and you can go off piste easily. A good place. We did prefer some of the others in the town though. OMG 😲 what a great restraunt this was. Wife and I had local freshly caught scallops followed by seafood bouillabaisse. Massive meal, so very fresh and without exaggeration for us the best dining experience we have had while hiking through the Cotswolds and Cornwall. Not sure if it was a “ bad night “ but this was nowhere near as good as the previous days experience at Sam’s on the Beach. Downstairs seemed busy and vibey and being sat upstairs, we had very average , sporadic service with a strong hint of indifference. I know Fowey is a visitor town ( and we were ) but people do come regularly and it felt like a trip to an airport restaurant. On the plus side , when we did get served , the food portions were generous and well cooked. Sam’s has lost it way a bit hence why other restaurants are probably worth a visit instead.

A friendly welcome to our favourite restaurant 😀 our food was fantastic, beautiful succulent scallops for me and a perfectly spiced Thai fish curry for my husband. We love the chilled atmosphere and music selection that complements the quality of the food. A must every time we visit Fowey.

Managed to get a walk in table here after seeing good reviews online however this wasn’t the case for us this time.. staff were polite and the booth was comfy but I had to shift the table to be able to squeeze in to be able to sit down. (I’m slim). Seemed a lot of staff were just standing around chatting at the bar even though they said they’d be getting busy for dinner rush. My partner ordered the lasagne and a floor staff member asked “what is that” when it came out the kitchen… (we were seated close to the bar/kitchen so we heard this) I had a burger and ordered some seasonal veg as a side. The lasagne was ok however when we got back to our hotel my partner threw it back up… My burger was ok however I ended up with an upset stomach coming back to the hotel and was up all night taking trips to the loo. The seasonal veg was practically swimming in butter which didn’t help my stomach. All in all, great Decor and drinks. That’s it.

Wow! The best steak I’ve had in a long while. Yes, expensive, but worth the visit. Sam’s staff are friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is great. The food amazing! Love the playlist! Well worth a visit, but book if you can to avoid disappointment. Thank you team Sams!

Wow! What a gem of a place in Fowey! We've been visiting Fowey for the past 9 years and have always previously dined in the hotel we've stayed at. This time though, we decided to give Sam's a go, and we were left hugely impressed by this fantastic place. So much so, that we were back the next evening as well! We were warmly greeted as soon as we entered, and there was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Although it isn't the biggest of venues, the space is creatively used, achieving an intimate dining experience without feeling as though you are too close to others. Quirky and eclectic decor with a great choice of music. An extensive variety of choices on the menu for both fish lovers and meat eaters too. I can highly recommend the Beef Short Rib - Sous Vide, which was really tasty. I was given a huge portion! With this dish (and the next night when I choose the local Lanhydrock Herd Sirloin steak) the sides included were plentiful. I had a dessert on the second night - The salted caramel and chocolate profiteroles were the best I've ever tasted! (with a choice of clotted cream or ice cream to accompany, the clotted cream was perfect for me). My partner had the scallops, sardines, and surf & turf, and says that they were fantastic. The staff were friendly and attentive, but star of this place has to be manager Ed. Super welcoming, totally customer focused and just a thoroughly lovely guy. He really went out of his way to ensure we had the best experience. It's a very popular place in town, so be sure to book a table, although they will try to accommodate walk ins where possible. Looking forward to going back the next time we're in Fowey.

The restaurant was recommended to us for their mussels and seafood dishes. So we decided to drive over from Padstow on our way home on the last day. It’s a wonderful little restaurant which is dog friendly which was good for our little dog. We had grilled sardines as starter's and both of us had a kilo of mussels which were absolutely delicious. Our little dog loved the sardines, in fact so much a lady on the next table came over to give her some of her own. We all laughed at this including the staff. The staff and owner are all super nice people. I asked the owner where we could possibly buy some fresh sardines from to bring home with us. He immediately asked would 12 be ok and packed them on ice for us to bring back home to Nottinghamshire. I cannot praise the staff so much, we will definitely go there again when we are in Cornwall. Dropped in for lunch, had the fish and chips they were very good, nice crisp batter on the fish, the mushy peas were lightly minted to just the right amount and the chips were also good. The other dishes we saw all looked good. The only reason I didn't give 5 for atmosphere is due to the door being open it was a little on the cool side, but I would certainly eat here again.

I came here twice during my 3 day visit. I chose calimari and scampi on my first visit and whole plaice on my second. All were delicious. The plaice was accompanied by green vegetable and boiled potatoes and the vegetables were rather watery. Could have done with a more thorough draining. I chose a New Zealand Sauvignon blanc on my fist visit. A bit too acidic for my taste but the Malbec on my second visit was excellent. Good service. Pleasant atmosphere. Great music.

We first came to this restaurant in the first few weeks it opened many, many years ago. It's lost absolutely none of its charm since. Great, tasty, reliable food and decent value. Every time I come, I tell myself I'll have something different but every time I end up with the blue cheese Samburger deluxe. Smashing. What a place. If you haven't been yet, you definitely should. We were looking for somewhere to eat & had seen Sams on Google. With good reviews we thought it worth a try. We weren't disappointed. We'd not booked a table & they managed to get us a table even though it was busy. We ordered 1 fish & chips, 1 seafood feast for one, a bottle of water & 2 cappucinos. Wow that was a belly busting meal. Very tasty & well cooked. Everything was perfect, from the service to the food which only took about 10 minutes to come to the table. We'll definitely be back before we go home. Dog friendly & children friendly too.

Forget Cornish pasties, Cornish mussels are far tastier! Sam's recently served me a huge pot of the best mussels I have ever tasted. Cooked in wine with chopped al dente onions and a generous portion of crusty bread to mop up the juice. Simple food cooked simply DELICIOUSLY!
