Old Sail Loft Restaurant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Booked the Old Sail Loft in March for our visit over Easter, booking was confirmed, and we thought all was well when we set off from Manchester to make the 5 hour journey down to Lovely Looe...It wasn't until the day before our reservation that we noticed it was closed and a non-informative message scribbled on a blackboard outside about it being closed. I emailed the owner to check whether or not our reservation was going to happen the following night, only to receive an abrupt response saying no it wasn't...!?!?! No apology or alternative...? So basically, If i hadn't been there the day before we would've turned up to an empty/closed restaurant as they didn't have the common decency to let us know...In times of economic troubles this isn't how i would run a business if i was trying to attract returning customers... Bad practice all round...

We enjoyed ourselves here , the staff were lovely and very helpful. We started with the Arancini, then the Sticky glazed beef featherblade and finally Sticky date sponge pudding all cooked perfectly. We enjoyed a nice Merlot 🍷🍷

Four of our party ordered fish and chips. The fish was delicious and hot but it was served on STONE COLD plates and the accompanying chips were barely warm. We made the waitress aware but all we got was a "sorry about that" and no attempt to correct the issue. I believe this place is resting upon its laurels.

We booked the Loft for our last evening in Looe. We were made very welcome and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. We ordered the burger and a fish and chips. The food was fresh and well presented. The reasons for only 4 out of 5. The battered fish had more grease than I would expect and the accompanying thrice cooked chips were a little under cooked. Yet those that came with the burger were fluffy and crispy. Also we found the restaurant was a bit cold in temperature. We did not loiter too long, we finished our meal and drinks and headed to more cosy climes for a night cap. I would recommend and would return, but perhaps I would order differently and ask the heating be turned up a little if in Feb.

We enjoyed an excellent meal here - good vegetarian options, fabulous fish (for the non-vegetarian!) and the desert really was quite spectacular! Excellent value for money given the quality of the dishes and friendly staff too. A wonderful find - we would certainly look to return when we are next in the area.

What a superb restaurant! My husband and I were recommended by a local lady in a shop. We had a beautiful lunch, my husband had the seafood/fish platter, I opted for the fish and chips. My husband’s dish was amazing, so fresh and flavoursome. My fish and chips beat Rick Stein’s hands down - Rick, get yourself over to the Old Sail Loft and see how it’s done. I must also say the other dishes that we saw looked just as delicious. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

With very little choice of nice restaurants, this is a little oasis in Looe. Tucked away just off the quay , we chose it as possibly the only alternative to a " chips n all restaurant " on a cold day in January. We were lucky to have a brand new menu to choose from , and the £30 2 course table d'hote menu looked good value . All the food was absolutely excellent. The crab linguini and pollock starters were followed by an exceptional sea bream - with additional side dishes to choose too . The food was all well cooked , fresh and tasty -and the portions were very good indeed . We even managed a panacotta dessert between us . All for less than £100 . Just brilliant .

We booked for there new years eve event and are we glad we did. Service was brilliant, food was amazing and the whole evening a wonderful experience. The set menu had five courses paired with different shots to complement each dish which worked, it just worked. We would definitely recommend this fab restaurant to all...thank you for a fantastic night.

Fantastic. Had our work Christmas party for 10 people. The food was excellent, the service was efficient. The atmosphere was great. The restaurant was really busy but we had no problems with service. Loved all the courses of food. Would definitely recommend.

The Treacle Cured Fillet steak was the best we have had. The good is amazing and reasonably priced for the quality. The service and atmosphere was great too. Would definitely recommend.

Food at this place good. Service however very slow and chaotic. Felt sorry for the young staff who seemed to be left to their own devices with little training or front of house knowledge. The toilets were dirty and not very appealing and the decor looked very dated and tatty . Nylon Chair covers falling off the chairs, just not what you expect from a restaurant at that price point.

We visited the restaurant on 17th November to celebrate a 21st birthday. I would add at this point that staff were very helpful in setting this up, and we decorated the table to add to the surprise. There were 8 in total, and we have all previously visited the venue before, so therefore had high expectations. Most ordered steak, and a couple had mussels as a starter. The fries with the steak were a bit odd, but not as strange as the huge shallot that accompanied this. A mushroom may have been better. There was also some pulled beef brisket. A strange concoction, and entirely differently presented to our previous visit in January. The mussels were also presented in a different way, and not as enjoyable. The evening was acceptable, but it was the next day that our experience became less palatable. 5 out of 8 felt unwell, with 2 people being sick overnight. We returned to the restaurant on Saturday 18fh November to give feedback and spoke to the supervisor that assisted us the evening before. Daisy listened intently and said she would speak to the team and come back to me. 6 days later we have not heard anything further. We have called the restaurant phone number, and the response is, 'our mailbox is full, please call back later'. This is at 530pm on a Friday evening! The same message has greeted us on 2 previous occasions. We will not be returning to this restaurant in the future.

As we live locally, we decided to eat here with friends for a birthday treat - and what a treat it was! Excellent service, excellent food and drink and superb view. However, a cheese knife would be welcome with the cheeseboard! The only other downside (and it is a very slight downside) - please don't refer to your customers as "guys" - it's an American word and not appropriate for ladies of a certain age :) I'm not going to hold that against you and we will be back!

Having walked by many times it was nice to finally pop in even for a drink. It’s clean and nicely located The food looks nice and it always seems to be popular and understandably why after now visiting. I’d be keen when I visit again to try the menu

Pleasant and efficient staff, fabulous food and to be honest reasonable prices for the standard of food. Will definitely be returning when we are back in Looe. This has become our favourite destination now over others.

Service was excellent. Cosy atmosphere and décor fitted with the theme of the restaurant. The food was exceptional, flavour was wonderful and the bread board was a delight as the breads were still hot and added to the cosiness. Staff were very attentive and polite, especially because we were talking to the people on the table next to us.

We visited by recommendation, and were not disappointed. A warm welcome from the staff, interesting menu, and generous portions made for a great evening. My fish and chips were among the best I've ever had. It was so enjoyable that we immediately booked for the following evening. I'd say that the pricing is fair, and although not cheap, we felt it had been worth every penny. The staff were attentive (and articulate) without being cloying - spot on!

Went for a lovely lunch for my birthday last week. Very tasty, had the Smorgasbord , it was delicious as a sharer. For mains I had a steak and husband the hake! The wine list was excellent as was the service. Thankyou very much!

By the harbour East Looe. Dropped in without booking hoping to get a table for lunch. Rustic looking pub (very old building). I had the Hake kiev, while my wife (not being keen on fish) had the pork belly. Both meals were excellent accompanied by a bottle of sauvignon blanc. Service was good (she tried her best to correct the wobbly table). I'd thoroughly recommend this place.

This quirky, ancient building looks like a gastropub from the outside. Sitting on the quay it overlooks the river. But inside it is an absolute jewel. The food is 5 star. Plenty of variety & unique choices. Try the bread platter that is next level. We ate scallops which were perfect, lobster linguine which was the best I’ve ever eaten & the duck was Michelin quality. Add that to the lovely staff & honestly it’s one of the best meals we have ever had.
