Always lovely food and very nice staff

Lovely local pub in Thatcham with great live music nights hosted by Zoe Badman, v talented singer. Big garden area in the back too.

Food was excellent and lovely service. Would return :) we enjoyed the roast dinner

Fairly quiet as the hotel was quiet, lovely staff and great service, food was lovely, no complaints at all.

Excellent service, lady at the pay desk pointed out that I had £30 to spend from my loyalty card so my purchase was only £4.99, (result 😀) Staff are always friendly, courteous and helpful. Thank you Camp Hopson staff and merry Christmas 🎅

Appalling customer service. No staff interaction, lukewarm drinks spilled on tray, no sugar or spoons . Requested sugar and spoons only to be grunted at and plonked on tray. The only saving grace is the atmosphere in this coffee shop which was nice. Staff need to be trained on customer interaction and customer service.

Very friendly, helpful staff. They remember my usual order, and are cheerful. They told me this evening that Too Good to Go bags were advertised online, and I was able to pay and collect one. Very good surprise bag with a sandwich, a wrap and 2 cakes in for £3.50.

Never will I ever go there again. My food had no taste and when I spoke to the manager he said it’s cause it’s a korma and that it has hardly any taste. Well when I’ve been to other restaurants, I’ve never had one like that and it had no taste. He even didn’t say sorry you don’t like it or anything. Thought he was rather rude. The drinks never came all at once, and they even forgot 2 of them and we had to ask for them. The amount it all came too , was extremely expensive. So for me I can definitely say, I won’t go back there. Colette Grant

I’m fairly regular at the Volley. The staff have always been friendly and professional. The locals are very friendly as well. Overall, it’s a welcoming pub for drinkers, eaters and families. I went with a mate on Saturday for ‘A Taste of Jamaica’. We both had the saltfish, jerk chicken with rice and pea, rum cake and a deliciously punchy rum punch. All this for £30 each! We’d not had saltfish before, so don’t have a point of reference. They were tasty dumpling/fritters with a good level of spice for me. We thought they were quite dense, which meant quite a filling starter. The jerk chicken was excellent! The closest version I’ve had in the UK to what I had in Jamaica! A generous portion of rice and pea, which neither of us could finish. The rum cake was moist, delicious and rummy. The rum punch was very rummy, which we both liked. I was excited to hear their plans to make this more of an event next year!

I have not used The Best Fry for many years and hoped they had improved. I did an on-line order for Haddock and small chips for a timed collection (1 hour notice) I do this in the hope that it is cooked fresh. I arrived 10 minutes early and they said that they were just finishing my order, I said no rush as I am early, I sat down and waited. When the chips were finally cooked they completed my order, but I noticed that they took a Haddock already wrapped up in the warmer and had been sitting their more than the 20 minutes I waited. I got home and the Haddock was only just warm and was very sad looking (difficult to explain but not light and crispy) , poor quality batter which was soggy for most of it and but burnt one end to a crisp. The chips whilst cooked fresh again were not good no taste and poorly cooked. I was extremely disappointed with this meal, and did not eat much of it, for £10.99p it was not value for money. Needless to say I will never be using the best fry again. I had hoped the best fry would have improved but I was so wrong.

The food here was really good but some foreign girl called margarita was rude

We stopped for lunch at the Cunning Man while walking the Kennet & Avon Canal. Pub is lovely and right next to the canal walk. Beer was good, food was excellent, and staff were very friendly and helpful.
