Pizza Express in West Berkshire

Ordered a delivery through deliveroo, correct pizzas on the receipt however wrong pizzas delivered. Tried repeatedly calling the restaurant over 30mins, and left a message for a call back however no response and no callback. I hate pepperoni pizza and got stuck with 2 of them.

Great food, great service. But a little noisy (it was a Friday evening, though) and slightly overpriced.

A perfect post Cinema meal with my daughter. Simon was super attentive and considerate.

2nd time I've been here. Excellent who gave friendly warm service. Nothing too much trouble. Food excellent from the olive nibbles through to delicious puddings. Will be back.

Great quality food, always tastes amazing and brilliant vegan options!! The only critique I have sometimes the service can be hit or miss, either it's really good or the servers seem disinterested in you, makes me wonder if the staff aren't completely happy with their working environment. But food is always on point and tastes so good, just a shame about the service sometimes!🩷 I would still recommend this place highly if you're vegan because their vegan range is high quality!!

I very rarely write reviews but the service was exceptionally good. I explained to your waiting staff, Sonia that I had a very short time window to order and eat a pizza due to train delays/connections. She was incredibly helpful, super efficient, and welcoming. Five star service all round. Please pass on my thanks to Sonia in recognition of her stellar customer service!

Why does this branch NEVER answer their phone?! Tried to call to make sure they can do an allergen order for delivery (like the app says) and they don’t answer!! Incredibly frustrating.

So we arrived at pizza express on the 09/12/23 and when we got in the lady who greeted us, said they had a table for us but we had to give it back at 7pm as they had other people. When we got to our table the waiter comes over and gets our drinks order, rolls his eyes as he walked away, and then about 10 mins later he comes back with, sorry we have to move you as I need to get the tables set up for a booking for 7:45, we got there at 5:55pm, we moved , I said something to the waiter and he was being very rude back didn’t apologise or anything, we moved and the. The waitresses and kept rolling their eyes. We ordered food, and the guy came and put it on the table he nearly dropped on me, didn’t apologise or say thank you when I helped him take the food off, and then the pizzas were very hard to cut, not enough toppings. We complained they were not having any of it. There were other people who had ent booked and they were allowed to sit where they wanted, we had no choice. Then the service was really slow, no one came and asked if our food was good, and took ages for them to sort the bill out. Staff were stood round doing nothing, not checking up on there customers. We will not be visiting here again, please sort your staff out good and friendly customer service is required.

Good food, great service and fine wines. As always. Bravo Pizza Express, Newbury! Perhaps change of furniture for a more lounge room effect would give the place the spruce it requires - the loos too. Pizza Express has weathered competition since 1965 and who doesn’t enjoy sampling change? 👍

Fantastic experience at Pizza Express! The service was outstanding, with a very friendly and accommodating staff that made our visit great. It's the ideal place for families, especially those with young children, thanks to its warm and welcoming atmosphere :)

We prebooked this restaurant as it was a race day in Newbury and thought that the town might be busy. We had a nice seat in the window. The staff were friendly. We nay had one course and one drink. We had lasagne and pizza with a portion of garlic bread. The food was very good but we were in and out very quickly. The bill was £42 but we had Tesco vouchers which covered most of it. As with all restaurants like this it’s expensive for what you get without being particularly special. Recommended when in the area.

Very good gluten-free pizza, and attentive service.

Went there today for lunch as a party of 9. We were the largest table and ordered a decent amount of food. Since we opted to share the food, we requested plates but were given only 5. We politely asked for 4 more and the male staff member (name unknown) uttered under his breath “Jesus Christ, more plates”. Totally unprofessional and we ignored this comment because the food was good and the girl who served us initially was polite and friendly. If the rude staff member sees this review, please note that our request was not unreasonable and I thus chose not to give a higher rating. Received the reply below but email link doesn’t work.

Ended up in Newbury as part of our day trip from London to Highclere Castle. Unfortunately we could only get Highclere tickets for a Monday, so all of the great restaurant research we did on Indian and Thai restaurant options was for naught. Given the timing, we needed to eat before taking a taxi to Highclere and we had afternoon tour tickets to Highclere. We wasted about 45 minutes walking around Newbury for a unique food option, but popped into Pizza Express as a last resort. Our pepperoni pizza and Cokes was a good enough snack. The service and speed of getting our meal were superb - probably the best on our entire trip! The price was reasonable as well. Definitely a good restaurant for a "snack" or a pause in the day!

Fantastic food, impeccable service, and inviting ambiance make it a must-visit. Calabrese pizza was perfection, and the staff went above and beyond. Reasonable prices, though more vegetarian options would be a welcome addition

Absolutely awful service. Ruined my birthday and no apologies and no offer of taking off the starters which didn’t arrive until after we were eating our pizzas. We were regular customers but we won’t be returning.

I went out with a group of deaf friends and the waiter could sign BSL which made our ordering easier I did not get his name but your communication skills were excellent

It is no wonder this restaurant is rated 75 out of 105… The attitude of the staff, from the little queen that walks around looking busy but doing very little, and not running the shift properly, to the “roll eyes” waiters, who have to check if it’s okay to take a table for two, with only one other table in the restaurant. What a joke! We came in, asked for a table for two, with only 2 other guests in. Got seated, after detailed discussion. Waiter (dark skinned, pigtails.) cane over, took a drink order and just rolled her eyes, and walked away. At that point, I didn’t really want to be there. So unwelcoming, and decided to leave. We have been here before and were served by Tom, which was a great experience. Unfortunately it seems that your poor rating on this site is backed up by the poor attitude of your team. Sort it out! Won’t be back till you do. I like Pizza Express generally. Newbury needs to sort itself out, as I won’t visit again until they do.

Nowhere near as good as it used to be. Food “ok” but a wafer thin pizza with minimal topping is not worth £15 in my opinion. Staff not exactly enthusiastic.

Do NOT order if you are gluten free. Ordered two pizzas, one gluten free, one normal, but the same toppings. Not only did the pizzas take over an hour to arrive, but the pizza boxes were not labelled and gave no indication on which was the gluten free pizza. Called the restaurant and took 10 minutes to get through to someone for them to try to describe what the gluten free base looks like. Just not good enough and clearly did not understand the seriousness of a gluten allergy.

It’s always a pleasure visiting pizza express in Newbury. The staff are so friendly and the menu is perfect for vegans (the alternative cheese is the BEST) but honestly it’s the service that brings us back each time <3

Ordered through Deliveroo, firstly took an hour to be delivered. Half the order was missing and the few items I did receive were cold and soggy. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! Even after reporting the problem the restaurant would not answer the phone when attempting to call! Completely unacceptable especially for the price of their ‘food’ I wouldn’t even feed this to my dog!

Fantastic! Decided to pop out for dinner but wasn't sure where to go, decided to give Pizza Express a go. Brilliant first experience. The staff were so attentive and welcoming, couldn't fault them at all! Starters, prawns and garlic bread, lovely. Pizzas, tikka and burn ends pizza. Both pizzas were so good! The beef on the pizza was incredible! We will definitely be returning! Can't wait to come and give some other pizza's a go! Thank you to the fantastic team at Pizza express Newbury!

Food is excellent, service is good but some items in the menu were unavailable.

We used to come here at least once a month when the kids were growing up because they loved the ambience as well as the pizzas, but here we are celebrating my youngest going off to Uni tomorrow and P.Express just isn’t the same anymore. Waiting staff are still polite and attentive, despite some of them and the chefs looking really young, but the quality and quantity of the food when compared with the much higher prices no longer make this place a reasonable night out. Luckily we’ve got a 30% food discount voucher to ease the shock of the £160 bill for some ok pizzas where extra toppings are now £2.50 a pop. So not only am I yearning for the good old days when my children loved the Piccolo menu for less than a Fiver (now £7.95 btw and no bambuccino!), but also for the Pizza Express of yesteryear when the food quality and customer satisfaction mattered more than profits…

We come here fairly regularly but it’s getting worse. Firstly the service was not up to scratch as everyone was running around like headless chickens although as it seems they weren’t even in the building. Next our order turned up and we were missing one persons complete pizza. The server was apologetic and it was cooked straight away. Whilst we are waiting for the missing item I flicked through my pollo pesto and commented to my father in law that it seems to be missing a key ingredient of chicken. He said that his has no chicken either so at this point I mentioned to the waiter who approached the kitchen who quite clearly said there was plenty of chicken in there. They argued and then reluctantly gave me a bowl of a few tiny bits of chicken. The waiter apologised but insisted that the kitchen staff said there was definitely chicken in there. At this point I wish I had taken a picture of my bowl of pasta!!!

Great service. Experienced some different taste in pizza here it was good overall , garlic bread was really good and cheese cake with berry was delicious. Will definitely recommend!!

What the hell Pizza Express? Used to love you, your food was fresh with the best flavours. However tonight, your service failed across all standards. Dough balls with no garlic dip x 2. American Hot pizza arrived with 5 small slices of pepperoni and no chilli, none! Also no cheese? What? We thought the order had been received incorrectly but no, its just terrible service and on top of all this it was cold, not just warm, it was cold. What happened Pizza Express? So sad as this was our go to restaurant for pizza which didn't have the "claggy, gloopy" ingredients. Newbury Pizza Express FAILED. So bad we won't order again. £30 too! Money is important, customer satisfaction obviously is not.

Went in with some friends and family. Pizza were okay lacked the toppings. Service was good. Definitely way over prices. It’s good when they have the deals on.

Nice quiet atmosphere and really great tasting non greasy food

I had a disappointing experience on my visit to Pizza Express. I ordered a Calabrese pizza and it was extremely greasy. I informed our server, showing them the swimming pool of oil amassing on my plate. I noted that I didn't want compensation or anything like that, but all I got from our server was "ok" - I had at least expected an apology and something along the lines of "I'll let the kitchen know". I had thought perhaps the manger or server would followup with a sentiment to that effect when paying the bill (coming in at just shy of £60!), but no words acknowledging the poor quality food were to be found. Quite disappointing to see basic customer service values ignored.

Pizza like paper. Almost nothing on it. Even not tasty. And they ask 14£ for that (just my pizza + delivery). I do not recommande at all. Except if you have money to spend for nothing.

Good one but bit late service on peak days

Not happy with the order we had delivered. The food was cold, the order was wrong. For £47. So expensive and had to re heat the food and couldn't eat some of it it because it was wrong. Won't be ordering again.

A bot noisy but great pizza as always

We went here on Monday around 5:30pm for a meal and had a really lovely time. The food was served promptly after ordering and was very good. The spicy chilli doughballs were great - very hot both in terms of temperature and spice levels. Our pizzas were lovely though we do wish we'd upgraded to the Romano bases, which meant you got a lot more topping for your money. Something we'll remember for next time. We loved how many vegan options there were. We had the "sloppy vegan" and something like the "vegan American" (I can't recall the exact name). Both were done very well and were really enjoyable. The whole restaurant is level access, though you may struggle to move around in here if you use a larger wheelchair or mobility scooter, as it is fairly closely packed. The staff were wonderful. Friendly and attentive and clearly knowledgeable about everything on the menu. Answered all of our questions with very detailed and helpful answers. We'll definitely be returning.

I had a great experience at pizza express. The chef who introduced themselves to me as Erdem was absolutely amazing. He provided me with great hospitality and he must get a pay rise as I will certainly be coming back.

Very enjoyable meal on a Sunday in the early evening. Fairly quiet inside but we enjoyed our pizza and excellent Merlot. Good service, and a very laid back atmosphere. Well up to the usual Pizza Express standards.

We had a delicious meal on a Friday night at Pizza Express! I downloaded the app (which is great and you can earn freebies) and I got free dough balls!! So for starters we shared those with the calamari, which was so crispy and tasty. For mains we shared two of the thinner pizzas, which were delicious. My favourite was the prawn one. It’s also great that you can add topping for free, for example black olives and onion. Overall a fantastic meal and service was great and attentive.

Perfect pizza and doughballs. Had the doughballs Al forno and was a cheese lovers heaven. Burnt ends pizza was awesome. The flavours and amount of food was perfect. Will be having again.

We arrived just before 830 on a quiet Monday night. Fabio was instantly welcoming and made us feel at ease. His excellent service made the evening. Pizzas and mains were great.

Rubbish. Very disappointed. I don’t think they are allowed to make proper pizzas anymore. The lack of toppings was pitiful. All our pizzas were rubbish. We sent them back twice. No cheese First then no sauce under the cheese. In the end we left without eating. You can buy pizzas out the freezer for99p for about the same quality.

I would have put half a star but I can’t I find this unfair that me and my friends organised to go just to find out we had to book and there were no people in there so we went outside and booked waited 30 minutes and then went back to have a rude man say we said no! so rude

Excellent place to go with the family. Great food and customer service. They went the extra mile with our 18 month old grandson, with his desert and colouring. Very friendly staff - thank you. Highly recommend.

Worked out we've been eating here for 20 years (!!) and thought tonight's meal was the best, yet. Made to feel extremely welcome, as always, and was spoilt for choice with the menu, particularly the new starters and desserts. Thank you team for a lovely evening out with friends.

Terrible food, undercooked bases, wrong toppings, incorrect and disgusting dough balls. A to of pepper on the margarita which I have never had, there is too much and then there is what they put on! All went in the bin! Never again

We held a pizza making party for our twins' birthday. The staff were very helpful and attentive, bringing out more toppings, being very patient with the children and offering me things to help with the cake cutting etc. Very pleased and impressed.

Ordered a pizza at 6pm it turned up at 8pm because of delivery driver issues, they should of really stated on the Deliveroo site that it was a pre order , wasn’t till I paid that the time of 20.00 came up…., when it did arrive after 20.00 , it was cold and toppings missing , this isn’t the first time this has happened …. And the price you pay …. I have closed my Deliveroo account because of this recurring problem …. Oh they offered 3 pound refund ..,, fab !!!!! We decided to have a meal out at pizza express Newbury. When we got there it was moderately full, the staff seemed busy so I didn’t mind waiting. We were the only ones waiting. After 10 mins waiting we had lots of members of staff walk past us with no eye contact or pleasantries. After 20 minutes of waiting and no comments from the staff to say sorry about your wait we left. Very disappointed with the rudeness of the staff. It was almost like they didn’t want out business.

Not sure they actually want people to eat there. We visited today at 11.30am and asked for a table of four. We were told they’re not accepting anyone before 12pm and we needed to go outside and book a table on the website and they might have space (could they not book us in there and then?!). We checked the website and they did have tables (and therefore no reason not to accept out custom) but we decided to go elsewhere given the uninspiring welcome. Not sure there’s any point advertising opening at 11.30am if they don’t open.

Food is ok for a large chain. Portions are small though. The service charge is 12.5% so that's worth watching out for large groups.

Experienced a rude and pompous reception at the door, when challenged no apology, more sarcasm. Hope someone picks this up and in-house customer care training is applied.
