Nawab in West Berkshire

Lovely food, the korma was a highlight of my meal. One of the best curry's I've had from the Nawab. Excellent service and staff are incredibly friendly :)

We went for dinner here yesterday and received a warm welcome from the manager and were offered to our seat seats. Our drinks order was taken and then surely after we were given the menus to select our delicious meals for the evening. We were a table of three and we all had varied items of the menu which all had exquisite taste and very well presented. Attentive table service will definitely come back again soon.

Ordered a delivery, food was very bland. Had many takeaways from Nawab’s but this was not good. I expect it not to be hot but to be bland is unacceptable.

We had our first of many takeaways for Nawab and it was absolutely amazing. Loads of lamb in the curry and the flavours were fantastic. Free poppadoms, salad and dips were also a very welcome addition. Great value for money. Would 100% recommend.

Take out food which was so bland. I spoke to the person on the phone how a Korma should be, to have replied, "it is a mild curry, there is no spices". I replied saying," you are right, you have given me a dish that is just cream and sugar, loads of water and a pinch of colour". The keema rice had no seasoning, and was like rubber to eat. The peshwari naan was loaded to the hilt with butter and could not even taste a crushed almond/desiccated coconut at all. Replaced the Korma with a madras and more Keema rice after asking for spices (FLAVOUR) and by the look and taste of the madras just chucked half a jar of chilli powder into it, and was just as bland as the Korma. Bottom line, a huge disappointment and completely bland. If you want 'traditional' Indian food, i would look else where.

Never will I ever go there again. My food had no taste and when I spoke to the manager he said it’s cause it’s a korma and that it has hardly any taste. Well when I’ve been to other restaurants, I’ve never had one like that and it had no taste. He even didn’t say sorry you don’t like it or anything. Thought he was rather rude. The drinks never came all at once, and they even forgot 2 of them and we had to ask for them. The amount it all came too , was extremely expensive. So for me I can definitely say, I won’t go back there. Colette Grant

I've been a regular for over 7 years and if youre looking for the best curry in thatcham/Newbury then it's here. I've tried all sorts of curry places and without a doubt the nawab trumps them all. The waiters are friendly and have a great sense of humour. Location is convenient and easily accessible. My personal recommendation is the saag aloo. Always hits the spot paired with a cobra

I have been to this restaurant many times and today just confirmed why I am going back there every time.The onion bajih was the best ever I had and the other food was tasty and full of flavour.I don,t get these other negative reviews. Totally unasked for.

The food was just average! The sauce was split with both prawn and chicken masala, no taste not good! It had no tomatoes or opinions just poor!

The food was very tasty, but was told would be buffet as large group which turned out not to be the case and therefore more expensive. Having said that I would say you did get value for money.

I takeaway more than I do eat in. When I do eat in the staff are great. All are very friendly. Appetisers are given straight away. Love the food there. It’s my go to for a takeaway and for nice dinner out with friends and family.

Went for dinner with my son as we wanted a banquet. Saw on their website it was £14.95 per head and on their window it was £16.95...so website needs updating. Service was good, we were served by a young waiter but then we were the only 2 in the restaurant. Lots of takeaways though. Food came quickly, was tasty but my Lamb Balti had too much onions in it. Would rather they gave me more sauce and less onions. Would I come back again - probably.

My dish was good but other members of the party were not good. One of my friends is still not feeling good 4 days after the meal. We ordered coffee to finish and were presented with INSTANT coffee when there was a perfectly good proper coffee machine being unused.

Service was very slow, the lamb in my vindaloo was over done normally just comes apart in your mouth but this was chewy as was the lamb in the jalfrezi one of our group ordered. The keema naan had next to not meat in it(pictured below). One of our group got a peshwari naan instead of a garlic naan, and we had a Roti which had to be snapped as it was really over done. Some drinks were missed and had to be reordered not the best night out and as it was my first time I doubt I'll be going back.

The buffet isn't a proper buffet, you choose from starter, main, rice or namm bread. Not very good soft drink options. Parking wasn't on site from what I could find, then you have to try and find a space on the street. Food was good. Not the most prompt of service waited a while to be asked about drinks or poperdoms etc. Atmosphere not so great, staff don't seem overly friendly or happy. Been to better Indian restaurants.

Had a takeaway from here last night, first time … curry was watery, naan was burnt in middle raw at edges, onion salad was 2 spoonfuls & the Rita dip was garlicky .. overall not worth the money unfortunately wont return

First visit to this place, got seated straight away but the service was rather cold (as was the restaurant) young lad was ok but the others seemed to consider us as an inconvenience to his day. Food was average for an Indian, price also ok.

Eaten here loads of times, always good, last night was average to poor. Lamb chewy, wrong nann, and yellow/brown manky salad. Sitting upstairs is great if you don't want any more drinks or more food! We went downstairs, asked for the bill £78 for 3, (I only had a starter as a main), and left.

Service on this restaurant was excellent. Food was delicious and very tasty. We will be back for sure. Thank you

Best Indian Restaurant in the area in my view, always first choice for takeaways. Consistent quality, standard prices, will not let you down. Good menu, they also have a Sunday buffet. Friendly staff.

Have Visited twice now on a Sunday evening for the Banquet. amazing food cooked absolutely beautiful and unbelievable value. The staff are very professional and friendly too. Forget the rest this is the best in Thatcham.

The service was good. The servers were very friendly and helped us choose our dishes. In terms of taste , if you are Desi like me, it's not Desi... It's English Indian food BUT that does not mean it's not bad. I had the lamb karahi and it was more of a "lamb curry" , but it was nice, I didn't expect a real karahi to be honest. In this area, this is a good indian food place to try. 👍😄 Expect to pay 20£+ per person easily for starters ,main, drink. One of my friends got the biryani, it was burnt tasting and not biryani at all.. All in all , relative to the area and what it offers. This is a good place to eat.

Meal, service and ambiance very good Slight issue with them not knowing that assistance dogs are allowed inside but soon explained about Equality Act 2010 and no further problem. Going back again tonight.

Firstly, I'd like to say that we thought the food was far better than other restaurants in Thatcham. However the service in the restaurant completely let it down. It was a little slow throughout the whole meal, though we did get poppadoms and drinks fairly quickly, which perhaps could be excused as it seemed quite busy for a Thursday.However our problem came when we paid. I have a taste card, noticed the sign on the door for tastecard when we walked in and told the waiter (who apparently is unable to smile) that I had one when asking for the bill. We were then, in a quite aggressive manner, told that we needed to tell them on arrival that we had a taste card. Apart from the unecessarily aggressive manner, almost scolding us, which he gave us I have two problems with this. One, how on earth was I supposed to know I 'needed to tell them' on arrival that I had one (I never have in any other restaurant) and secondly what happens to the quality or quantity of your meal therefore if you say you have one?We were so shocked by his attitude that we could barely say anything to each other, paid and left and got the first smile of the evening from the young lad who was being trained.A real shame. The food was great, but they need to learn a thing or two about customer service.

Having lived in Thatcham many years ago, I though I would give this a try. I was initially offered the buffet which was a row of very bland curries complemented by pieces of dried out naan. I gave that a miss and chose the à la carte menu. By modern standards it was a very basic line-up , so I chose the only item that looked even slightly interesting - duck jalfrezi. When it arrived, the meat in it was not plentiful, was tough, and did not either look or taste like duck. Didn't taste much like any jalfrezi I have had before, either - very bland. Perhaps it was what it said but it did not excite me and I could only look forward to finishing and leaving as quickly as possible. Cost for one course and a Cobra - £21.45 - which is more than I would normally expect to pay. Decor and ambiance negligible.

Yet again a excellent Indian meal in the Nawab , nice friendly service with good banter , nice fresh food and nice cold Cobra . Ali and the team did themselves proud yet again, keep it up chaps.

We took up the whole top floor for a birthday, and the service and food was really good. Normally these kind of arrangements end up in being forced to have a set menu, or waiting hours for food - but this was handled really well.

In an attempt to find a decent curry house in the area we have ventured into Thatcham.Only a round trip.of 13 miles or so, so not far.20 miles to far. Shabby inside with ripped seats and tape over holes in the walls.Food was dull and bland. I had the Balti house special that tasted like a stew my mum used to make. My partner had a lamb masala and was possibly the worst Indian dish I have ever tasted. Seriously this is a poor place to eat.Reasonably price and ok service but the food was bland and tasteless.We will not come back here and I certainly would not recommend it to anyone. Seems Bracknell and Wokingham have the best curry houses in the area.

Dined here with a group neighbours and on the whole quite happy with the meal and ambience. What was disappointing was being a stack of stale popadoms, which on the face of it was nice as we hadn't yet ordered anything, but the fact that they were stale, was somewhat an anticlimax. Sadly after rejecting the first batch, the second batch weren't much better. Not one to cause a fuss and spoil the evening we let it go, but can happily report a delicious set of main courses for all.

Stains down the walls, awful seats with huge tears in them. Ladies loo was revolting, smelly, dirty, bin full, toilet brush disgusting etc. All very off-putting at first encounter.

Food very average and swimming in oil & slow service..! owners & staff were disorganised & chaotic. We wouldn’t return - there are too many curry houses out there to return to a poor restaurant !

Went for Sunday buffet this evening, good choice of food all hot and readily available. The only thing that ruined our meal was when the bill arrived, 2 pints of draft beer at a reasonable price, however a pint of Diet Coke which was poured from a 2 litre bottle stored on a shelf, not even cold in the fridge was charged at £4.50!! Totally

We ate there last night, and some of the food was cold, and we felt the service left a lot to be desired.

My wife and I visited here on recommendation from a family member. We went for a Sunday ‘All you can eat’ buffet. For me these buffets should be an opportunity to showcase your best food and encourage further visits. When we arrived the place just looked grotty and rundown. There were tears in the seating and the napkins were torn and one had a burn on it. There was a child lying across the seats as you came in which wasn’t very professional. The food selection was not that great though I have to say the bit that was on offer was actually quite tasty which was frustrating. We are lucky in Reading that we have so many good Indian restaurants with much better Sunday buffets but with a little bit more effort this place could be very good.

We cook and eat a lot of Indian (plus Bangladeshi, Goan, etc. etc.) food, it's our go to for both regular suppers and special events so we were a little wary of going to Nawab for the first time having been big fans of the now sadly ended Sunday buffet at Tadley Tandoori. But it was a grey, wet November day so we decided to try the Sunday buffet - at £30 for two it's not a huge loss if the food isn't up to much.

I dined here one Tuesday with some work colleagues. I had the keema nan, keema rice and a tandoori mixed grill. The food was far too dry, almost as if it was cooked the day before and heated up with a hair-dryer. My lamb tikka starter was small and chewy. None of my colleagues were impressed and said they wouldn't be coming back, especially as the drinks were particularly expensive

General comment from party of six was that the food was mediocre, not 100% correctly served and drinks were very expensive.

First time visit to the Nawab in Thatcham. This premises has been an Indian curry house for years and the Nawab moved in about a year ago from their premises in Newbury.

We came here Sunday lunch time for their buffet. They provided a wide range of Indian dishes which you served yourself to in normal buffet style. Of course, you could go back and eat as much as you like. The price was less than £10 each with just the drinks to buy,

This is the worst Indian Resurant I’ve been to in a long time, the furnishings are nice, but that’s where it ends.

We eat here regularly as the food and service are always excellent. Last Sunday, because of the snow, we walked into Thatcham and ate at lunch time, something we haven't done before. There was a Sunday buffet on, but we chose to order separately and again the food and service were exceptional! We can highly recommend this restaurant at whatever time of the day you are visiting now that we have tried it in the daytime. Excellent - as always.

Visited a week or two ago whilst working in the area. I was the only customer as it turned out. Really enjoyed the food here and I will return soon All in all pretty faultless and much better than most other Newbury area curry houses.

Yes we went to the buffet no it was not expensive for the food but soft drinks absolute rip off now I know they make up the money on drinks but £3.50 for a pint of lemonade is absolutely extortionate when 2 litres can be bought for about 40 pence.the food was nothing special and the waiters had a very cavalier attitude to a point when placing down our food he was looking elsewhere two drinks just under ten pounds

Our friends chose the Nawab as they live local, we’re always a bit dubious with trying new Indian restaurants as they can sometimes be a bit hit and miss but we were pleasantly surprised. We were seated upstairs as it was quite busy downstairs, this was ok until after we’d eaten and were then forgotten about and just left there with no one checking if we would like more drinks or the bill.

The staff were wonderful The food was the best and most authentic Indian I've ever had It was more then worth the cost and the atmosphere was perfect

En un viaje de negocios en la zona y busca una casa de curry. Registramos el menú fuera y parecía razonable. Un salto, pidió de camarero para personal curry - me miró raro. . MNM pedido desi - apna comida. . . Otro look para volver al menú, elegimos un plato picante y pedimos que él de una manera comer. Un delicioso curry volvió junto con una fantástica parte de banco y una paratha saab. . . . mmmmmm

Este lugar sirve excelente comida india rigurosamente cada vez que visite. El nambs son especialmente buenas, fresco y muy sabroso. Llevar también increíble.

Went last Friday evening. Plenty of room which speaks volumes. Food very average, our curries were served on our plates rather than in bowls from which we can help ourselves and try both dishes. Mine looked very unappetising, although tasted OK.Waiters looked very bored, no atmosphere unlike the Italian on the opposite side of the road. Will not bother again.
