Mandarin Court Restaurant in West Berkshire

Food was really tasty, had nothing to complain about. First time ordering today, food was ready to collect in 10min. Everything was piping hot when I got home and food was not super greasy like some restaurants. Tasty food and super nice lady at the entrance.

Food head clearly been reheated as my BBQ ribs had cold spots and the sauce was congealed. Rice was warm and had cold spots too (again like it had been reheated in a microwave or something, not cooked fresh) Really not great and really not worth the money.

We love our takeaways from here, foods always hit, yummy and worth the wait if they're busy

The chicken seemed liked it had been pumped with water and was in cubes. The sauces were watery and just really didn't enjoy it. Would not recommend.

Food was excellent and so was the service! The boy who answers the phone and is at reception is very friendly and helpful! Would definitely come again 😁

Great food at reasonable prices.

Probably the best Chinese takeaway I've ever had. Good price too. Kung pao chicken and beef noodles are particularly good

When entered I was welcomed by a very kind server, he took my order very quickly and the food came out in 10 mins. The food is excellent cooked fresh to order and the flavour is immaculate. However I want to place a big emphasis on the server, he seemed to have a younger brother and both of them are wonderful and make the place come to life I didn't get his name but he's wonderful. I recommend going on a Wednesday evening. Also the server is always playing pubg which I found hilarious.

Been going here for a year now, maybe once (sometimes twice) a month. AMAZING good, soo good. I get the peking style chicken and the chilli chicken (found in appetisers, but the amount is a whole meal) - the chilli chicken is honestly my favourite ever, it's just the tastiest dish there is. Happy to have found a great Chinese place since moving here a year ago. Never had a wrong order and food is excellent. I will say though, the only thing has regularly been the pick up time hasn't always been EXACTLY on time. Maybe get to wait around 10 mins extra if you get there on your pickup time.

A last minute decision to have a takeaway. We have never tried Mandarin Court before. Normally go for one of the others in Thatcham. For our first experience we really enjoyed the food. It was really tasty and well cooked. Food was ready to collect within 20 mins. The lady who took our order over the phone was helpful - think it was the same lady when we collected too. We will be using them again at some point in the future.

First experience was amazing with nice food, good service and reasonable price! We enjoyed the meal. Thanks for the crackers!

It's always exciting wondering what they've given us this week. Rarely disappoints, though.

Tragic Beef curry. The meat was completely inedible - just gristle. Very disappointing as it was part of a birthday meal. Our usual takeaway was shut so we tried here but will never go back ever again. And what’s with the clingfilm screen at the counter ? ? Looks terrible. What a shame because it used to be good.

I have been coming for 14 years and will never ever stop best in the area and was very good when I had it recently especially the salt and pepper chicken well done

Ordered £40 worth of food for my family like I do every weekend,ordered online was emailed to say collect at 6.15 arrived early 6pm food was ready and sat waiting in bag I got home to find all our food was freezing cold we had to reheat every dish and ended up throwing more than half the food away, I called to complain but management didn’t have a clue what I was saying so I had to speak to their young son who works at front of house after half an hour on phone I was told I can have a free dish next time. How does that compensate for a cold meal that ended in the bin I will be speaking to the local food hygiene authorities to discuss the need for spot checks , bad management not impressed

Great food (especially the spring rolls) me and my mates order here all the time for how reliable they are, and the food is always ready within half an hour, which is how long it takes to walk down there from our house anyway. Been going here for years and can highly recommend.

Excellent service and food, had a little longer wait than the time given but I guess for good food you can expect a delay and it was definitely worth the wait. Highly recommend this takeaway.

Ordered online. Food not ready, had to wait further 30 mins. No apologies. Hoped food would compensate for long wait. Unfortunately it did not. Prawn toasts were greasy and soggy. Chicken dishes were disgusting and did not taste or look like ‘real chicken’. Even the dog wouldn’t touch the chicken. I will NEVER order from there again.

Won’t be having takeaway from here again. Was told food would be ready by 18.09 but had to wait another 20 mins. 10 mins prior the young boy on the desk came out with a box of food and left it on the side. 10 mins later to be shouted my name and handed the same box that had been sitting there. Got home and food was cold and order was wrong. Terrible Experience

Mandarin Court by far better than 3 other Chinese take away i tried before. Try the fried prawn rice and the sweet sour chic.

...they don't do deliveries. After spending 10 minutes selecting my order online, I called to find out how to arrange delivery. I was told by the young man on the phone (who sounded like he'd just woken up) that they don't deliver. I said that their website lists all the places they deliver to! The response was "oh......" and then a long silence. I had break the silence by saying "Ok, forget that then. Bye."

Very disappointing. My usual Chinese in Thatcham may have been closed for Xmas as I couldn't get a reply. I didn't think this place compared at all. Also had to wait way beyond my collection time. Won't buy again from here.

The most delicious food I have ever tasted. I go here all the time! I love the staff and especially the delicious noodles. I love this place so much. :)

We rang before collecting our order and the lady could hardly understand us, we were worried she would get our order wrong. The food was reasonably good but not outstanding. Would definitely look for another chinese take away before thinking about re-visiting this one.

This has always been a great Restaurant. My personal favourite in Thatcham. Have been in with large groups and just as a couple and it's always excellent.

I remember having this when I was little and always enjoyed it unfortunately one night it was not that good but we gave it the benefit of the doubt and it was as good as it used to be I loved it although they brake under pressure we ordered takeaway new years eve and they were telling people it will be 50 minutes and a man from hungerford got there with his 2 year old and wife in the car and mandarin court said it would be 50 minutes and he had been waiting there for 2 and a half hours poor man

Food is decent but when they get busy it all falls apart. Two orders in a row now they have quoted 30 mins and reality has been well over an hour. No covid customer management in place. End up with an unsafe number of people in and around the place. Won't be using again.

Food is generally good but have had two occasions where items have been missing. Crispy duck missing hoisin sauce and cucumber and wontons missing sauce also. very disappointing. The food you get is good though and good portion sizes. Please check you order before you leave!

Having tried all the other Chinese in Thatcham we decided to give the Mandarin Court a try. Clean, non greasy, fresh, but not so tasty. Mine was chicken in black bean sauce, wife had king prawn with water chestnuts and bamboo shoots. No problem with the quantity except that they were extraordinarily mild. Black bean sauce should have a bite to it, this seemed to be apologizing for being there so a let down on that score. Wife reported the same, just rather bland. Takeaway service only due to COVID, and the staff were screened off from customers.

First time here. After trying most of the others in Thatcham thought we would give the Mandarin Court a try. Quality-good. Freshness-good. Flavour - nice but a bit mild on both my chicken in black bean sauce and the wifes king prawn and water chestnuts, so not a five. Otherwise, good value. Good covid security

Very slow service for takeaway and no welcome or friendliness at all. Meal thay was supposed to be ready in 30 mins took over and hour and no apology or notice taken. Food was good but won't use again.

Rang the order up told 25 minutes arrived and ended getting order 1 hour after phone call !!!! You g school kid behind counter no apology given got home all good warm nearly cold and order was wrong will have to say worst chineese I’ve ever had swerve this place if you can

I enjoy a chow mien but one rule is that you must use egg noodles. The chicken chow mien i was given in my take away was made with Singapore noodles. They are far to thin for a decent, well made chow mien. The only thing i can think of, they are probably cheaper. Apart from that , it was a delight to get pancake rolls ( not to be confused with the useless spring rolls ) will be using this take away again as long as they use the right noodles

Simply the best Chinese takeaway anywhere ,food is always fresh, very polite and friendly staff ,it was a great loss that they had to close the restaurant

We went there to buy food and the lady at the counter was so welcoming and nice, that she allowed us to stay and eat there, even though is just a take away place. She served us in plates and always watch our table tocl come and clean it exactly when we finish The food was very nice and the people are lovely! Very good place to go and buy your food, with kind people and lots of smiles. The women at the counter was so nice that I couldn't help myself and I give her a big hug when we left! Well done, very impressed!

Having eaten here on many occasions and really enjoyed the food and service the last two occasions have been really poor food very tasteless and bland, which for Asian food is strange, I have written positive reviews about this restaurant in the past but will definitely not be visiting again

As a family of avid Chinese eaters I had always stuck to my favourite takeaway, but due to the opening times we decided to order from here as my parents had used the restaurant previously. I telephoned our large order through to a polite and helpful person who told me it would be ready in 20 minutes (a standard time frame for any takeaway no matter of the size of the order)To our surprise it was ready when we arrived and still got by the time we drove the 3 miles round country lanes. The food was delicious, the duck got a massive thumbs up as well as the egg fried rice.I don’t think there was one complaint and disappointment on our faces as we couldn’t eat it all even though we all gave it a good try. Really nice takeaway and reasonably priced.

Firstly I want to say that we use this restaurant alot!! Buffet, normal menu and take away (for many many years). The gentleman that works there is amazing with his service and with our daughter.The manager on the other hand has always been off with us never very chatty but always is with senior people in the restaurant (which is fine if she prefers senior people and relates). We could live with this, but what I can't live with is HER telling my daughter to stop making noise (she had shouted this one time not like it was all night). She said her senior table upstairs had complained (this was a lie). I asked for the other lady to put a receipt for the food we had as we were leaving as how dare her colleague tell my daughter what to do also she is only 20months.When asking her to speak to her colleague she abruptly said "well she ain't the manager". Which I kindly declines and said I wasn't wanting to speak to the manager but the lady who served me as you had been rude to us all evening (which is pretty standard for this woman but we normally ignore her, but not when she thinks she has the right to tell me daughter off). A receipt was put togeather which was tommucn for want we had. As I said we have eaten in here many times and are normally served on the buffet with more on the plate than what was there. Her reply was that the other guy normally courtesy for you. Which I said you can't charge 2 different prices for the same food. She said yes because I don't give you courtesy (clearly). I told her that you can't say it is courtesy when we have never been told this and chat change the price to suit her. At this point she had become very aggressive and rude and was shouting at me that it was courtesy and senior table upstairs complain and don't want them to leave. This point another member of my table went and spoke with the table upstairs and they said they didn't even know own there was a little one downstairs. I told the lady I would give her ex amount for the pitiful food that we were given and she started shouting we were racist (mmm of course just because you are from China and we had an issue with your service and rudeness, pull that card, classy that). She then went to possibly push a member of out table out the restaurant which I stood in between and she said I pushed her and I was racist ( I stood between them because she had touched the member of our table this would not have ended very well for her, so this was for her benefit but didn't push her). She threatened to call the police even tho we were paying ( this was before the accusation of being pushed). Never in all the time of me being in this restaurant has it been like this (just her generally being herself very miserable I guess). The last that had originally served us kept apologising behind her, so she clearly knows that she is like!! But never again will we eat in there again!! Could be even better restaurant if they had more of the guy that works in there he is great!!

Have eaten in the restaurant on many occasions. This time it was a large family takaway and we were not disappointed food was hot and delicious. Staff very helpful and friendly. I would always recommend this place.

Went to Mandarin Court Wednesday night with our Daughter and future son in Law. We decided to go for the all you can eat option and were not disappointed. The starters were plentiful, hot and extremely tasty. The Chili Chicken, prawn toast, spare ribs, spring rolls and chicken satay were all fantastic. This was followed by Crispy duck with pancake rolls which was great and 5 main course dishes also brilliant. At any point we could have ordered more food starters, mains etc but did not due to the size of the portions we had already eaten. Service was brilliant with just enough time between each course and the waiter was extremely attentive. All in all a super night out and the best chinese we have had for a very long time. A must try restaurant.

Have always loved this restaurant. Staff are always friendly, polite and give great service. The food is great and you always get a lot for your money. Upstairs and downstairs seating area, so plenty of space. The only problem is the toilet is upstairs so if you're disabled this may cause an issue.

Utilizamos para comer aquí a menudo cuando vivimos localmente. Fue un viaje de recuerdos a visitar, y puedo decir honestamente que muy poco ha cambiado. La recepción muy bueno, desde el personal, la comida era exactamente como nos recordaba, gran comida degustación, buenas porciones y relación calidad-precio. Nuestro mejor me decepcionó es que no vivimos aquí.

Stumbled upon this place by accident, it's very small downstairs but there is additional dining upstairs which is very spacious. The decor is a little tired and could do with a revamp but the food was brilliant. It's basically all you can eat, you pay £18 each and order 5 dishes at a time, until you're full up. It's a good system, we had a mixed started, followed by duck and then shares 2 dishes and a rice and could barely move. Nothing was too greasy and we finished everything. My partner doesn't usually each much rice but he went back for seconds because even that was delicious! Great service too, waiter was friendly and made conversation with us, tables had chopsticks but although we didn't need it we were offered traditional cutlery. Overall lovely and we will visit again

Well I can't fault this restaurant in any way food hot and tasty friendly staff ( Adam is just amazing ) use it all the time going again on Sunday try you won't be dissapointed

We started getting takeaways from here recently and have been very impressed. The food it hot, tasty and quickly produced. The lady who takes the orders is friendly and always seems to be there (give her a day off!)

Went there as party of 15 for a chinese buffet. Service was good and we were looked after well. Food was also good and plentiful, only one small coplaint was that teh squid was rather chewy but overall very nice.I have given four stars because I think it is beaten by the szechuan just up the rd.

We walked into town from the canal and, after looking around the town for a while, chose this restaurant for our evening meal. It was a quiet night but the service was great and the food even better. Quite the best Chinese meal we have had in ages, when we pass by again it will be No. 1 on our list.

We came here by chance on the way back from a day working in Avebury last September. We said we would return and when we found ourselves in the area again made a beeline to this great Chinese Restaurant. The food was every bit as good as last time, service quick and friendly staff. We sat downstairs again which was lovely. Upstairs there is a larger part with more tables. Comfortable place to eat good consistent food left feeling well fed and ready for the last part of our journey.

i visit The Mandarin Court on a regular basis to eat in and take out. In my opinion it is the best Chinese restaurant in the area. Really good food that is always consistent.

Good chinese is not cheep but this is well worth the money. Toped off with chinese beer I guess are regulars! Nothing is too much trouble even on nights the poor staff are running around they still have enough time to have a chat!

We had a take away from the Mandarin Court last night as we were out all day and it was a nice thought for us to come back to a lovely take away from our favourite Chinese in Thatcham. But sadly very disappointing this time, The sweet and sour chicken balls tasted of old stale oil, the sauce to the beef dish was not its usual flavour and the chips were hard and seemed to be warmed up several times, had to throw them away. Come on Mandarin court please get the quality back.

Lovely authentic Chinese food. Staff very pleasant and engage with you which makes the experience a pleasant one. Food cooked to perfection. Will visit again when in the area

service was friendly. Food was okay but below average. Heating seemed to be set on furnace and chairs were uncomfortable so did not make for a relaxed experience.

Nice food and service, but main restaurant is upstairs which is a no go for my disabled husband. But it is very handy for us as we live in Thatcham and often get a takeaway. Very quick service

The restaurant is layed out in a very peculiar way. It would be great upstairs space to have a large group meal but feels very bleak and lacking in atmosphere as the staff are mainly downstairs, the service seems to be disjointed and infrequent as trips up and down the stairs seem to be an inconvenience.

Good food, but price is a bit on the higher side! However, Thatcham being a small place and without too many options, there's not much you can complain!

I'm my opinion the best Chinese in thatcham with great food and excellent I've never had a bad meal here and I've coming since it opened. Saki is not bad either...D

A small restaurant with takeaway that I have used for 5 years before moving from the area. Unusual in that you can choose takeaway items from both the takeaway and restaurant menus. The chefs are happy to prepare variations on the menu, and I have never been disappointed.

Food here is always of a high standard, both in the restaurant and takeaway. Always my restaurant of choice for Chinese food in this area. If eating in, there is an 'Eat as much as you want buffet' during the week - order all the dishes you want from good selection on the menu, it's lovely as all the food is cooked fresh to order rather than from a buffet that is laid out and kept warm throughout the night. Highly recommended!

I normally use this restaurant for takeaways, but I'll think long and hard about ever using them again. I ordered a take away but when I got home found one item was missing and another was incorrect. When I returned to the restaurant and asked for the items to be replaced, they firstly accused me of ordering the food incorrectly, this was eventually resolved when they eventually found the correct recipient. Secondly, in front of other people in the restaurant, they accused me of lying about the missing dish. Stating that they they don't make mistakes, so once again I must be lying. What followed was a heated exchange in which the chef and two people behind the counter, repeatedly stated that I was lying in front of everyone in the takeaway section of the restaurant. I have to say that they did eventually (and very reluctantly), manage to replace the missing items. But to be honest, by then I'd lost my appetite. I understand that working with the public can be stressful, but this is no way to treat your clientele. The food quality when I "eventually" got it, was very good. However the customer service was appalling.

With such a vast number of Chinese restaurants to choose from in Thatcham, this is the best of them all. Friendly staff, efficient service and fantastic authentic food, By far our favourite in Thatcham. Great for dining in or taking out. Reasonably priced too :)

Good service food is of a good quality without being exceptional, not overpriced, overall worth a visit.
