This was so outstanding that I had dinner twice in the same night (Don't judge, I took leftovers back to the house where I was staying). The fish and chips were perfect. Not greasy, The chips were properly thick with a crispy exterior and soft interior. The fish was even batter. excelent batter. I also had the Quiche dinner and a mincemeat tart in a flaky crust for dessert. I would have taken a few of those home if I could have afforded it. Even the wine (a Light Rosé) was wonderful. And all gluten free from a gluten free menu.

A Most Precarious Repast at The Old House at Home There are few things in life as sacred as a well-poured drink and a sturdy table upon which to set it. Imagine my horror, then, upon entering The Old House at Home, only to find myself dining not in stately comfort but in a state of perpetual imbalance. One reserves a table with the reasonable expectation that it will, at the very least, stand firm beneath one’s elbows. Alas, what I was met with was a rickety, quivering contraption, trembling at the mere suggestion of movement. My fellow diners and I found ourselves locked in a silent contest of steadiness, each lifting a fork with the precision of a bomb disposal expert, lest we send our glasses skidding into oblivion. To make matters worse, this architectural affliction was not limited to my table alone; no, the neighbouring furniture appeared to share in this affliction, as if the entire room were engaged in some grand, lumbering waltz. A wonky table is not mere inconvenience—it is an insult to the art of dining, a sign of neglect so egregious that one wonders whether management has mistaken rustic charm for outright disrepair. One does not expect to endure a siege upon one’s senses simply to enjoy a meal. A man should be free to place his drink upon a table without fear that it may betray him. Until this most elementary of expectations is met, The Old House at Home shall remain, at best, a folly; at worst, a farce.

I organised my husband's wake at the pub. Every thing was excellent from the food to the bar. The food was replenished as necessary, particularly the hot dishes and the staff were very attentive. Thank you Andrea for making the afternoon so pleasant. Must go and try the curry which my daughter has been raving about.

3 of us went for lunch and what a lovely time we had. We were greeted very warmly & took a seat in the cosy restaurant. Our drinks orders were taken quickly & then the lady came for our food requirements. Everything that we ate was delicious, well presented & extremely tasty. Afterwards we had tea & coffee & as the coffee machine was not working they were all complimentary, how kind. Our experience was totally relaxing, the ambience in the whole pub was so welcoming & the staff cannot do enough to help you. Absolutely superb, we were all very impressed and will be returning as soon as we can. Thank you to all the team, I very rarely say things were perfect, but this certainly was.

After hiking we arrived without a reservation, and the team opened the back room for us and for other visitors who just dropped by, they even put music on and lit the fire, creating an amazing atmosphere. Lovely kind team, amazing food, we must visit as we want to try more food from the menu:) Thank you for the warm welcome and the amazing food!

The location is fantastic, but the service wasn’t. Weren’t a very happy bunch. They’re were very slow in getting your drinks. There is something missing. Ironic their WiFi password is pub of the year, but it is the worst pub we have been this year (Jan 2025)

Great and tasty portions. Really helpful over the phone in terms of booking as we had a voucher and wanted to check what we could have. Scones were a real highlight. Staff were really lovely and really helpful - food obviously all came out together but kindly delayed the tea coming as my wife wanted it with the scones at the end.

I was taken to the Spice Tavern by friends for an early meal yesterday evening August 12th. I am disabled and have an assistance dog. We were refused entry with my dog and were told to leave her in the car. As the temperature outside was 30 degrees, that was not going to happen! Needles to say, we will not be going there again or recommending it! We went to the Black Horse in Hookwood, Horley where my dog and I were made very welcome and we had an absolutely delicious curry
