This was our first meal at this Restaurant and what a disappointment. The description of the food on offer on the menu did not mirror what we actually received on our table eg. Spiced Cod Tacos were actually two fish fingers with a bit of avocado and lettuce in a hard and stale taco shell which we had to leave; the Chef’s Chicken Katsu implies a home-made element to this dish but, once again, failed to live up to expectations and was just a glorified processed chicken burger. Our complaints, whilst acknowledged, were ignored and we had to insist on some concession for such a very poor meal which came by way of us refusing to pay for the “spiced cod tacos”. This was an extremely disappointing experience and one that we will never repeat if in the area again.

Awful - the quality of the food was so poor, very processed with no flavour and not as stated on the menu. The cod tacos were hard and chewy, with a fish finger that was out of a packet, the dirty fries tasted of oven cooked chips at best and the “smoked tomato salad” was a bowl of cold tomatoes - I could go on - do chefs think that guests know nothing about food? We complained but nothing was done. We had to ask to get the tacos removed, as we had left them, as they were so bad.

Myself and colleagues have used this hotel for many years. I attended a dinner with colleagues who were staying at the hotel in January. Unfortunately I was caught out by newly installed car park signage which was not illuminated and not easily visible after dark. This resulted in a parking charge for £100. I have appealed and supplied a hotel receipt as proof however my appeal has been rejected. As a result my company will no longer use this hotel for our visiting guests or meetings. There are other better options elsewhere with easier parking.

We ate here on both nights of our two night break at the Mercure Burford Bridge Hotel. We found the restaurant warm and pleasantly furnished, the decor was tasteful and the tables well spaced. We liked the new menu which was sufficiently varied for a range of tastes. Service was welcoming and attentive but not obtrusive. Our food was nicely presented and cooked to our liking. We enjoyed our meals on both nights of our stay, there was nothing we didn’t like. If we were to stay at the hotel again then we would definitely eat here.

Went there to eat this week. Two of the three courses were OK. The main course was not as ordered. On complaining it was removed, but the replacement was just the same. The meat was tough and inedible. Drinks were not as required. The response was 'tough!' Waiting staff were trying to be helpful but completely let down by the orgainsation and the chef who didn't produce what was ordered. No help at all. And it was really expensive for what it was. Won't be going there again.

We were hear for an anniversary. The waiters were pleasant and efficient, if somewhat informal. The room was spacious, but our table had no tablecloth and the Formica was badly chipped in two places. Food was pleasant home cooking, not as refined as the photos online suggest. A very small selection, not necessarily a bad thing. But it was loud, both because of a large business party behind us, and a 6 or 7 hear old watching cartoons on a tablet right beside us! We couldn't believe the Father allowed it, or that the waiting staff didn't have a discrete word. We worked out that this was much more a hotel dining room, rathe than a destination restaurant. Because of this I wasn't going to tip, but couldn't because a pen wasn't provided to add a tip to the bill - an own goal if there ever was one It was nice enough, but we won't return....

On our last night staying at the Mercure Burford Bridge on a Thursday Evening, we (my colleagues and I) decided to eat in since we all needed time to pack. That I was our first mistake. The second one was ordering the Margharita pizza from the bar menu which tasted like a reheated frozen pizza. After receiving it and being shocked at how bad it was, we asked the waitress if it was prepared onsite. Based on her cagey answer, we surmised it is made offsite and perhaps baked onsite. We also had cheesy bread, grilled cheese, and several desserts which were a bit better. The total was 99.50 pounds plus 10 for tip. If I ever return, I have no plans to eat here again. Note: This was pre-COVID.

What a complete let down. When arrived no one in site to greet us. Place was pretty empty, quite early evening , when asked for our order Was told they had run out of the veggie starter ( which there were 2 of us) Was told they could have seafood instead, which the veggie replied I don't Eat anything with a face, to which was laughed at by waiter. My friend and I had scallops which turned up on stone cold plates and the pancetta missing, when asked about it the waiter tried to argue that it was not on the menu, asked 3 to 4 times to see menu again. In the meantime the boys soup came out with white sliced bread ( from supermarket) then realised that the soup was cold. Just about had enough When they brought out 2 rashers of bacon to replace the pancetta. In which we stood up to leave, said we would pay for first round of drinks which we had drank, but not the second that had not been touched. When the bill was bought Over our friend noticed that they hadn't off the second round, with which the Waiter went away came back and said there was nothing to pay. I think he wanted us to leave at this point because it was in the restaurant in Front of the few people that were in there. Very disappointing, will never be returning We then went round the corner to WilliamlV pub much better atmosphere and lovely food. 😔

We ate here for a celebration meal, and everything was just perfect. From our window table we were able to watch the light fading over the garden, whilst enjoying the most perfectly cooked meal. the menu is short, but we were lucky to find a lamb dish which was delicious. The accompanying vegetables were unusual, and a perfect foil to the meat. Starters and desserts were equally impressive, managing to straddle the unusual / safe divide with ease. Service was exemplary, just the right mix of formal/informal. We enjoyed our evening so much we are now just looking for an excuse to return.

Came here for afternoon tea for my mothers birthday. We sat outside and had the entertainment of a wedding plus the beautiful views too. The service was good, very accommodating and friendly. Was brought out a pot of tea and hot water to top up and 1 stand consisting of a selection of soldier sandwiches, 3 jam and cream scones and a small selection of pastries which were all very nice. I was just a bit taken aback with the price. It came to £60 which was a lot more than i expected for what we had. My own fault really i should have asked at the time. It was all very nice but wont be back. We went to Thatchers hotel in Horsley last year and it was quite a lot cheaper and that was with 2 stands of sandwiches and cakes.

Came to this restaurant for dinner on a Saturday evening, just felt the layout of the restaurant was odd, we sat on a curved couch for two facing a wall which felt quite uncomfortable, didn't really know where to look. Food was pretty average, nothing to write home about and were shocked when the bill came as we had a burger and a salad. The restaurant was empty when we entered but half way through a group of about 25 people came in and we felt we were ignored after that. I read another recent comment about how the waiters unfold your napkins for you and put them on your lap, I also found this very strange and would rather have done it myself. Not somewhere i'd rush back to although the cocktail I had was one of the best i've ever tasted.

We booked dinner here for an anniversary celebration, expecting the advertised 'fine dining'. First impressions weren't great - no-one to greet at the door of the restaurant, and in an empty and soulless room we were shown to the worst table. We asked to be moved, which seemed to surprise our waitress. The menu choices were very limited - one each of fish, pork or vegetarian, but to supplement this there is a bar menu of standard pub fare. I had hoped for a better choice. Service was rather slow, considering how empty it was, and our server didn't know anything about the beers available. When the food arrived, there was a lot of fuss unfurling our napkins for us and placing them onto our laps (weirdly intrusive) but other standard parts of service were lacking. We had to find someone to ask for condiments, which took a while to arrive. Of the two main courses, both were disappointing. Pork belly was so small in size, with a paltry quantity of 'vegetables' just those annoying blobs of goo instead of real food. I had a falafel burger - thin, limp and flabby, dry and tasteless, with an accompaniment straight from the 1970's - two lettuce leaves and two slices of tomato without any dressing. Served on a breadboard. It was hard to dredge up any enthusiasm to eat. Desserts were much better. As my partner was still hungry he was grateful for the ample cheeseboard, but surprised that he wasn't offered any cutlery with which to eat it. And the empty pot of mayonnaise from the main course was never cleared from the table. All in all a real disappointment, and not somewhere we'd want to come back to ever.

We were worried we had booked Emlyn for our anniversary given the reviews below. Fortunately the food was excellent. I had the duck as a starter, which was light, delicate and beautifully presented. The chicken as a main was very tasty - though the beer braised shallots seemed more suited to accompany cheese to me and broccoli slightly over charred. I’d advise renaming the Mille feuille as a dessert as I wasn’t prepared for what I got but it was nice all the same. Service a bit variable - they remembered our anniversary on arrival which was nice but our aperitifs arrived after our starters! But still an enjoyable experience and in my view, worth a return visit.

Simple things like, we asked for just olive oil for a salad and the waitress brought oil and balsamic vinegar? Two asked for earl grey tea and was given breakfast tea. The restaurant was busy but not full but the service was very slow, not once was the wine poured for us nor were we asked if everything was ok. Expected more!

We came here on Saturday evening with great expectations, we were not disappointed and felt that this was one of the best restaurant meals that we’d had in a very long time. The restaurant looks stylish, the staff are helpful but not imposing. The menu looked really good. To start, the mini-breads and butters were a delight, we didn’t even have to ask for bread or ay extra as you do in most places now (yes, we know we pay for it eventually…). For starters, we decided on quail and the haggis and black pudding, both were superbly presented and quite delicious. Our mains, cod and sea bream were equally superb and the accompanying vegetables/sides made them exceptional (especially the puy lentils and chorizo!!). Together with a bottle of wine and coffees, the cost of £100 was not extreme, given the superb quality. We are going back someday soon

The restaurant is beautiful, the food is creative and delicious, the service always impeccable and very professional by the lovely waiters. We have been a few times now and when we took our toddler with us once they also went out of their way to keep him happy too. The only thing I would say is that as they have a small menu (about 5-6 options for each course) they should either add specials or change the menu more often as we've had the same menu every time we've been. We've now eaten everything we wanted to try from their menu and it would be nice to look forward to something different whether it's fish of the day or some seasonal special.

Went for an evening meal with another couple. We often eat out together and go to great lengths to eat at the best places. This has to be one of the worst meals we've had in the last 7 years. The service wasn't that great either.....very very slow! Our first bottle of white wine was warm but all 4 glasses had been poured we asked them to bring us another to put in our cooler to make sure it would be colder they didn't take the hint and think to replace the first one, I feel without question they should of taken the other one away as we were being too polite to actually complain, a restaurant of this so called standard ought of taken the lead. Starters: The Jerusalem Artichoke Risotto was so sweet it was sickly, also very badly presented, the seared Scallops with Maple bacon wasn't as described the bacon was more like a slab of Pork Belly which my friend wouldn't have chosen if he had know. I had the Beetroot cured salmon it was ok, a bit bland and I would of expected it to be served thinly sliced as it is raw. My husband had the Celeriac & Truffle soup which had garlic overload! Next came the mains.....I had Fillet steak which was rare when it should of been Medium and it wasn't tender in the slightest, service had been so slow and we were eating so late by this point that I couldn't be bothered to send it back for more cooking, plus the quality just wasn't there! I would of also expected the smoked paprika & jalapeno butter to of been on the onions etc the way it was written on the menu! I had ordered Dauphinoise potato as a side order which were not creamy in the slightest just a stack of sliced baked potato for £4.50! My husband who never complains about his food had the red Mullet and he described it as average which means terrible to the rest of us foodies! The other two mains were Pork and Cod, again not great the cod itself was fine but the rest wasn't pleasant and there seemed to be an abundance of green crispy something all over the plate which my friend pushed to one side and tried to ignore. The braised apples on the Pork were so hard my friend couldn't cut them and enjoy them as part of the dish but to be honest the starter has ruined her appetite, she also ordered Purple sprouting broccoli again £4.50 but it wasn't purple??? Follow on to Desserts and well it was so awful we were now in hysterics!!! The Chocolate mousse was not a mousse it was a heavy stodge of chocolate with a gritty sugary top that was unpleasantly sugary sweet that we left it..........who gets dessert so wrong!! I was now underneath very irritated so excused myself from the table and chatted to a member of staff out of the restaurant I explained my issues in detail and was told it would be "reflected in my bill", unfortunately I feel it wasn't by any means and therefore it has been reflected in my review!

The dining room is really beautiful, however the service both in the bar and restaurant was slow, there seemed to be lots of staff on duty and only three tables were occupied, just the little things, had to ask for mustard and horseradish to go with the roast, teaspoon for the ice cream, a refill of the water jug, just little things. I will certainly visit again, the chefs should be proud of their offerings, just front of house letting things down a little bit.

We ate here as we were staying in the Mercure hotel next door, and they were doing half board at a good price. It's one of the most spacious restaurants I've eaten at in a long time. not many tables, and they're spread across a reasonably sized room. Not at all cheek-by-jowl. Decorated tastefully, one might say almost bland. The food was very good - pulled pork to start followed by a generous sized portion of cod, followed by a very nice pistachio tart. My wife had beetroot cured salmon followed by the pork belly. All very well cooked and very well presented. The only reason I wouldn't give this place five stars was the service. The staff themselves were charming and helpful, I just think they could have had one or two more. It seemed like there was a wait for everything, including taking orders, bringing drinks. Plus, the staff didn't seem to know what being vegan meant, which in this day and age, I would hope anyone in the food industry would know about. So, if you want fine dining with competent staff, and you're not in a hurry, please go. It'll be a nice experience.

We visited with a dear friend. The waiting staff are obviously proud of this restaurant but service can be very slow even when there are only a few tables being served but I cannot fault the food, taste, quality or the way it is presented. However, God help you if you order something that is not what you expect it to be. I ordered a hot starter but it was served on a celeriac slaw. I have an allergy to mayonnaise so was not expecting it to come that way especially as other dishes on the menu stated they came with mayonnaise. If the slaw had been just on the side of the plate I could have left it but the meat was placed directly on top of it. I would normally check before ordering a dish if I suspected it may contain mayonnaise but the ingredients gave me no reason to on this occasion. The response I received was that I was obviously at fault and should have stated my allergy. After 3 attempts to make me wrong including showing me the menu only to accept that only 4 ingredients were shown, celeriac, crackling, apple purée and braised pork cheek, no slaw was mentioned. The patronising way I was treated I can only conclude that I had the audacity to complain. The rest of the meal was perfect but was left with the overall impression that they were doing us a favour in serving us. Would recommend the restaurant for the food and the service on the whole was excellent but would feel that I would be treated as ignorant if I had to query every dish for possible allergies.

On our first night at the hotel, for convenience, we decided to eat at the on premise restaurant. I ordered the bread board for us to share and it was delicious -- lovely selection with a choice of different flavored butters. For our entrees, my two colleagues ordered Rump of Lamb -- which they said was excellent (and would order again), and I ordered the aged Rib Eye steak and a side of shoestring fries. The fries were good (came with garlic mayo which was very tasty on the fries), but the steak was just OK. It wasn't bad and there wasn't anything wrong with it, but it was not something I would crave or order again on a return visit. Having said that -- I did eat most of it. I finally stopped because I was stuffed. The service was excellent and the prices very reasonable. Our total was 78 pounds with soft drinks, plus 12 pound gratuity (that was before I found out you only tip 10% in the UK). Overall a very pleasant meal with excellent service. I also ate in the same restaurant on the same day for the complimentary breakfast buffet. I arrived 10 minutes before closing with a suitcase and backpack as my room was not ready yet. The servers were very gracious despite my late arrival and let me stay past the buffet closing (working on my iPad) as they got ready for lunch. Since they were shutting down, I just grabbed a few items to eat -- but everything was very good (fruit, mushrooms, sausage, eggs, french bread, hot tea). Unfortunately I did not have time on my other 3 mornings to eat breakfast before heading to the office -- but it was an enjoyable experience.

Having booked a table as part of our stay at the Burford Bridge Hotel, we were welcomed into the restaurant and shown to our table. The restaurant is very spacious and open plan, thus allowing a privacy between each table not normally experienced elsewhere. Having selected our liquid refreshments, we studied the extensive menu accordingly. One of the main attractions is the usage of local produce, from meats, cheeses and vegetables - and after some difficult decisions, we made our choices. We had the sharing Butchers Block as a starter, this was various different cold deli meats along with chillies, chicken wings and a pork & black pudding pie - everything was very tasty & beautifully presented. We then had our mains - I chose the guinea fowl with a croquette, turnip and berries - this was sublime, the delicate guinea fowl with a smoky taste, perfectly accompanied by the mini turnips and croquette. The birthday girl chose the beef - a slow braised cheek with mushrooms, onions and mash, this was so tender and just melted in your mouth. Having finished these delicious dishes, we didn't have room for dessert, even as tasty as it looked so will have to return and try them next time!! The service, attention to detail and overall experience was EXCEPTIONAL and we would have no hesitation at all in recommending this to all and everyone!

Ive visited this place rarely on and off for about 20 years and each time ive left with the feeling youre just paying for the surroundings .And i still do .The service has always been awful with mediocre waiting staff pretending they are working at a three Michelin restaurant and feel its the customer who is privileged to be there and not the other way round. The food has been quite good to dam right disgusting.the worst meal ive ever had was there, i didnt go back till 13 years later. This time around the service was still bad,and the food very pretentious but ok,too small portions and presented ok as well but reminded me so much of Nouvelle cuisine in the eighties.the sides were £4.50 a time i think and you needed them.My food was OK,as it was cooked ok and did have nice touches but one of my friends said the cod was old and tasteless and overcooked and the crispy squid was not fresh and had a weird after taste. The prices seemed ok on the menu but after you add the drinks, sides, portion sizes and service charge you just feel like a mug.See you again in 20 years i think.

On the whole my mother's 90th birthday lunch here was lovely. The team reserved an attractive and spacious area of the bar for pre-lunch drinks without being asked. The restaurant was bright and spacious and everyone enjoyed their food, though it was a little rich for some. Be careful when ordering. Celeriac soup followed by risotto for the vegetarians was too much cream.Where the experience was inadequate was with the communications to arrange the event and afterwards. I got a lot of contradictory information which I had to double check each time. I was initially offered only a set menu ( as our party was larger than eight), then only a la carte, which I preferred, then back to only a set-menu, by which time it was getting a bit late in the day to find somewhere else. If this had been an event for me and my friends I would have cancelled at this point. In the end it turned out we wouldn't be able to book off the a la carte menu ( even if we gave our orders in advance) and were offered a choice of three options for starter, main and dessert. I had to press for more choice as the set menu on offer had pork as the only meat for both the starter and as a main course and the vegetarian options were unsatisfactory. As we were bringing 15 people to lunch I felt they should have been more accommodating to our dietary needs. On the day there was only one other table booked so they were not busy and should have been more grateful of our business. We had pre-ordered our food at their request, so I think it was a poor show not to offer a full menu ( how would they manage two tables of eight?) As mentioned earlier, I had to repeatedly chase up their business, emails were often left unanswered, including my last one querying the bill, which has never been replied to, even to say 'sorry, but it's too late to check ' (We thought they had charged us for one extra bottle of wine and asked if they had any way of seeing if perhaps the other table's wine had accidentally been added to our bill) All in all the meal came to almost £800 including service, which was a lot given the standard of food and amount we drank (not much) Personally I would rather take this amount of money and spend it in a decent restaurant in London with better menu and service.. But this meal wasn't for me it was for my mother and she was happy and that's what counted at then end of the day. It was a lovely day but they could do so much better with their customer relations.I wouldn't recommend it as a venue to anyone else because of the stress involved chasing things up. But if that's what your elderly mother wants, if you can put up with the hassle you shouldn't be disappointed on the day.Stayed February 2017

Having previously enjoyed good Sunday lunches at the restaurant and a corporate dinner in the hotel, afternoon tea this afternoon was a huge let down and a disappointment for a special Mothering Sunday treat. Having arrived promptly for our booking we were shown to a table and left for 20 minutes without a menu or an offer of refreshment. We were seated in an area seemingly reserved for tables for couples only and it appeared that priority was given to serving large groups in the main part of the restaurant rather than the smaller tables grouped in the far corner. A gentleman at a neighbouring table for two had to chase up his order and kindly asked for someone to come and see us to take ours; meanwhile a larger party which had been seated after us, were served as priority. When we were finally asked to order drinks (nearly half an hour after arrival) I was told that they would "hopefully" arrive around the same time as the food! When they did, the tea was stewed, cooling and with no hot water supplied to pep it up. The sandwiches were bland, although the scones were beautifully light and freshly baked. The cakes/pastries were pleasant enough and led to the highlight of the afternoon - great amusement was had by those in the "couples-only corner" when a neighbouring couple asked to take their uneaten cakes home and were presented with an extensive questionnaire to be completed before being issued with a cake box! Apparently the restaurant wanted to know what the guest wished to do with the items to be taken away (!) and whether they would be returning to the restaurant in the future - judging from their comments, and those of other guests nearby, I would doubt it!!The restaurant appeared to be significantly under-staffed, possibly due to the competing demands of offering afternoon tea in the bar at the same time as the restaurant, AND running a Mother's Day carvery in The Tythe Barn. I would suggest the hotel prioritises one event to do well rather than spreading itself too thinly and delivering a disappointing event to its restaurant customers.

Have dined here before and had good food and service. This time it was poor. On arrival we stood at the entrance to the restaurant and were totally ignored by members of staff who went about their business without acknowledging our presence. Eventually we were invited to choose a table in the restaurant which was empty. Overall the service was pretty poor and our empty starter plates were left for some time before being cleared away, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. The food itself was only average and not up to the standard of previous visits. Maybe the head chef was away. We couldn’t find anyone for the bill and had to get up and move towards the exit to get attention.

Happened to be around Dorking and chose this place among very few for fine finning. Have to say that we were one of two tables occupied for lunch. Service was good but it took some time to get our appetizers. Menu is grouped into small and large plates rather than starters and mains while i don't honk it creates any confusion. It also took some time to get starters (around 40 minutes) as well as mains were generally slow to come. Having said that I generally explain that by the fact it's not very popular for lunch so all meals were prepared from scratch and taking into account that they are very well represented and complex it's time consuming. We had scallops and mushrooms and both were very good and full of flavors. For the main we had guinea fowl and pork belly that I would like to praise as both were of right size, well presented great flavored, not too much of side - really enjoyable. For desert we got cheeses together with a small menu describing them that also works a business card - very good quality and great balance of flavors. Will definitely come back to check the steaks.....

We had a really disappointing Sunday lunch with friends at this restaurant which sits within the Burford Bridge Hotel in Dorking. We did wonder why it was so easy to get a table on what should have been a busy December Sunday lunchtime. Despite reserving the table at 1:30pm, and with the restaurant about 50% full we we still kept waiting for 20 minutes for our table, the meaningless excuse offered being that another party who had booked the same time had reserved at an earlier date than we had. Clearly, no thought given to scheduling the tables. The starters were acceptable but the mains when delivered were all poor, save for the seabass ordered by one of our party which was well cooked. The beef was uniformly medium rare despite each of us being asked how we would like it cooked. The turkey ordered by one of our party was within a hairs breadth of desiccation, with the only gravy offered being the same beef gravy served with the beef (i.e beef gravy with turkey). No one came near the table once the food was served, and despite returning the turkey largely intact with commentary on its unpleasantness (mumbled apology received from waiting staff), the single member of management in the restaurant having been informed failed to come near the table either. In summary, sullen service, we were not made welcome, no-one particularly cared whether we enjoyed the food or not, and the main courses were a shadow of what they should have been. Avoid.

We visited this restaurant because we knew the chef's previous restaurant (which we loved). We had an 8pm reservation for Friday night. 90% of the restaurant was empty and there was no music and no atmosphere. The food was very disappointing. I'm not sure what they are trying to be, but it just didn't work. Aspects of the food was great, but it felt unnecessarily rich (rich cheese featured in both our mains and both our side dishes) and it was so close to beautiful in many respects but by over complicating it the food wasn't enjoyable overall. The menu was very very limited. I don't know why they can't offer a few high end steak cuts, less rich side dishes or some simple fine dining options - the chef is clearly very talented but they will never attract a crowd in that location trying to serve this food. Service was excellent and they have all the facilities and staff for a wonderful restaurant - it really is a huge potential if the menu was right.

Booked the Emlyn Restaurent for my husband's 60th birthday celebration for a party of 22 family and friends. We had a wonderful meal , the roast beef was to die for! The starter was delicious albeit a bit on the small side! The whole party really enjoyed themselves. Although my following comments in no way detracted from the lovely afternoon we had I did think the maitre d' was perhaps a little distracted at times. I had pre ordered 3 bottles of fizz and glasses to be ready for our arrival but had to chase this request and then he came to tell me that the wine he had recommended to me over the phone was not available so had to suggest a different one. The bar also seemed to be understaffed and the bar was left unattended several times which made it difficult to order other drinks. Once in the restaurent though the staff were very attentive and the food all arrived in a timely fashion.

When we booked the table for lunch here we asked if there was a wedding going on and were told it wouldn't impact at all on the restaurant. Also, we mentioned a food allergy so were surprised when we were told that none of the dishes prepared with stock on the a la carte menu could be served with sauce as it contained something I can't ever eat without getting ill. So I chose the rib of beef from the very interesting but limited menu which came with many beautifully prepared elements but didn't work as whole dish because it lacked the essential sauce which would have brought it together. It was more a dish of onions several ways with a piece of steak, than garnishes celebrating the taste of the beef. Also, I didn't enjoy, and had to leave the croquette, which had a slimy squishy texture, and the raw scorched onions, far too tough and unappetising. I'm not sure why I received a fillet steak, not a piece of rib as stated on the menu. I was glad I had ordered a side of jersey royals with bacon, which made a difference. Chris had the mullet which came with squid and ink gnocchi in a coconut broth, which he liked well enough without raving over it. We were not asked whether we enjoyed our mains, despite my plate looking like a war zone. We were glad pudding was much, much more accomplished than the main courses. The treacle tart was divine. Chris's variations on the theme of peach was elegant without blowing his taste buds away. All clever stuff but none of it tasted half as good as it looked. Not the kitchen's fault, but there was a wedding going on in the adjacent building, and our meal was accompanied by a constant flow of people tramping through the dining room to the wedding ceremony and back. It was like lunching in the corridor. As we'd asked about this, we felt we were misled. It did make a difference and impact on our lunch. In the end we gave up and people watched and enjoyed the spectacle, particularly when the bridesmaids and bride and father came through...quite a floor show. But it certainly wasn't what we expected from our £110 for two 'high end' fine dining lunch treat. Most irritating of all was that the kitchen didn't have the will or skill to put together a little sauce for my £27 main course dish - how long does it take to make onion gravy, or use the missing blue cheese in a bechamel....? I expect they were overstretched every which way with a wedding going on. The wines by the glass were very good indeed, and our service, after a long wait to be noticed and seated, went well. Oddly though, they forgot to charge us for two drinks and were quite brusque when we pointed this out and requested the bill be corrected. So much for honesty. I didn't feel like a valued guest today.

Booked for dinner on Friday night at 7:30 to find that we were the only people there. A few came later but not many. The waiter said they were very busy the previous night and sometimes weekends seem to be quieter. Maybe hotel and therefore restaurant, is more aimed at business clients. I have very little to fault with the meal itself. It was all very tasty and well presented, trying to give a fine dining experience in look and taste, which it achieved well. I would like to see this restaurant in a different setting, closer to town maybe as Dorking is in need of more upmarket dining to rival the very pricey "two to four". All in all it was a good evening and I would go back for sure as I think it was good value for money with professional friendly service.

On a whim - after having had brunch so not really in the mood for lunch - we decided to head to Burford Bridge hotel to have afternoon tea. So we quickly booked and when we arrived we were offered a table in the front bar (which was beautiufully furnished) or in the garden. As the weather was half decent we chose the garden which was peaceful & delightful - the lawn was mowed in classic English concentric circles and the views of the Surrey Hills amazing (well it was peaceful for half an hour until a gaggle of children complete with football and croquet set arrived - peace shattered. Not the hotels fault though), The table could've been a lot cleaner (but it was under a pine tree think the sticky substance was from nature) & if I'm being brutal, the service was a little bit slow but the tea that arrived was absolutley worth the small wait and great value. The tea was creatively presented and we had delicious sandwiches, amazing cakes and perfect scones with heap of clotted cream and strawberry jam. Will definitely be back.

Visited for the first time the other Sunday for a roast dinner. I was very impressed and will definitely return. The service was excellent. Due to a large party at the hotel that weekend our first choice of wine was unavailable. The waiter suggested an alternative – and another waiter returned to say this too was unavailable. At this point they suggested a wine that was not on the menu, and which certainly would have cost more, but said we could have this at no extra cost. The wine was gorgeous and despite it effectively being our third choice, I thought they handled this in the best possible way. The food too was of a very high standard, with the lime cheesecake looking particularly pretty. I especially liked that the Sunday menu offered two vegetarian options – I was there for the beef, but my brother was pleasantly surprised, and enjoyed the pasta dish he chose.

I have eaten at some very prestigious and award winning restaurants in the UK and abroad over the years, so would like to think i know a little bit about food.I never write reviews for anything, but when i revisited the Emlyn Restaurant in Dorking and discovered that it still wasn't being recognised for its truly exquisite menu, I felt somewhat compelled to write another review, due to the circumstances of my visit this time around. On my most recent visit, I discovered that the Head Chef was on a night off, which in truth usually puts me off going, because on occasions when dining my view has been if the 'artist' isn't presenting their work, then i find it is not to the usual high standard. This was certainly not the case as i think the food was of equal quality as the last visit, but what i did feel had improved was the service. There was a new man called Lesley who i believe is the restaurant manager and an absolute star the hospitality team were. They have clearly overhauled the team since my last visit as i didn't recognise anyone from before, but this was clearly for the better because the service was excellent. The staff didn't just know the menu, but really understood what they were serving to us and could answer any questions we had about the dishes. The whole evening flowed wonderfully and although we arrived at 7.30pm, we left at nearly midnight. As dining experiences go it really is a fantastic little restaurant and certainly deserves a higher profile not just locally, but regionally.

My wife and I went here for a birthday lunch. It was fantastic. A complimentary glass of Prosecco on being seated (it was a booking in advance offer) was a perfect start. Then a selection of warm breads with a dip and two different butters, one smoked with sea salt, the other a Marmite butter. Yes you love it or hate it. I loved it. We went off the set menu £19.95 for two courses or £23.95 for three. The menu we were told changes approximately every two weeks. There was a choice of three dishes per course. We had a gin infused salmon and a courgette and watercress soup. Followed by sea bream and calamari with gnocchi and carrots as well as a broccoli and asparagus pasta dish. These were all very nice indeed. Then I managed to squeeze in dessert. A light lime cheesecake with orange sorbet and 'burnt' orange segments. Followed by coffee. The service was attentive, without being over the top, the restaurant was clean and airy, we had a seat by the window which looked out onto a grassed garden area of the hotel. I don't think I have ever had such a nice lunch. I sent by compliments to the chef and kitchen staff, as I was very impressed. We will hopefully be coming back with a group of friends for dinner, let's just hope they can give the same service and quality when there is twelve of us.

My husband and I visited here for our wedding anniversary lunch. The service, setting and ambience were excellent as was the quality of the food. However the portions were small and a Dover sole charged at £27 was only one quarter of the size, that a Dover sole is. For a similar price the venison was only 3 small pieces of meat with very few vegetables. Disappointing, when with larger portions it could have been excellent. We booked Sunday Lunch at the Emlyn Restaurant at The Burford Bridge Hotel to mark our 34th wedding anniversary. We spent our wedding night at the hotel 34 years ago (couldn't afford a honeymoon in those days). Booked through Booking.com and that failed because they weren't expecting us when we arrived but the staff hustled around an arranged a table for two in a matter of minutes. The manager was a very welcoming larger than life character and the staff were very pleasant and warm. The food was well portioned, beautifully cooked and presented and the pace of service was spot on. It was Easter Weekend, so we took part in the 'decorate a cookie' competition. We didn't win but were awarded an honorary chocolate bunny anyway. If I had a criticism it would be the table settings. The lamb was served in a bowl which was sort of odd and the forks were weirdly shaped which made using them a matter of technique but aside from these niggles, (and I know I am being pedantic but I think it is worth making them aware) the fun, great food and warm hospitality made it a really memorable anniversary meal.

I took my elderly mum out for lunch and when I asked for a diet coke, I was told that they didn't sell that and all cold drinks were in the cabinet. I asked if they had any other sugar free cold drink. I was told I'd have to look at the cans, or I could have water or a hot drink. I decided therefore to go without. The food = mum ordered the beef and ale pasty. It was so dried up and hard that she could barely cut it with a knife let alone her teeth! I did complain to the waitress who promised to feed back and waited a good 10 minutes or so as I thought someone might show some interest and come over. They didn't! I appreciate that things can go wrong in any business but it's how those things are dealt with that seperates the good from the average. With so many choices locally, can't say I'll be rushing back.

Fish cooked fresh to order. Light, crispy batter (not greasy). Nice chippy chips. Excellent customer service. Friendly staff.
