Smith and Western in Mole Valley

An American themed restaurant that for once actually had a US feel. Apart from the accents, it had the feel of something like the American "Outback" chain which we've visited on anumber of occasions while in the USA. The server was friendly and efficient and the food was good, being hot and tasty with good portion sizes. I had the chili con carne which was excellent. We will return and highly recommend. In fact I would urge the company to look to expanding further west, say to the Reading area where I could see it doing well.

We stopped by with our two small children for lunch after our walk in box hill over the weekend. Booking was easy on the website. The staff were all very friendly, smiling and attentive. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great and the food was to a high standard- we all enjoyed our meals including the kids who came away full (and sleepy). Our server was Phillippa who was wonderful. She read our table very well and kept the kids drinks topped up. We don’t go out for meals very much these days but we had a great experience and will return again. Our 3 year old said “I love this place” as she dived into her after dinner icecream.

Food was brilliant as always! Compliments to the chefs..Jon our waiter was unreal! Friendly, polite, warming. He went above and beyond!

Lunch was freshly cooked and delicious John was our waiter he was awesome really friendly really efficient and so bubbly . Fast and fantastic service price was fantastic . Your toilets are the cleanest I’ve been in in many restaurants. All round fantastic

18th birthday party for 22 people. Jack managed our whole group to absolute perfection and we are so grateful that his accuracy on taking orders was perfect. Not one mis order and bill was 100% correct. An absolute credit to S&W and would love to come back and see him in a more senior role. I love this place and came to celebrate my birthday. We had a fantastic time, drinks at the bar first and then seated for the food. Food was great and big portions! Service was excellent. Only let down was the ladies toilets, they weren't very clean and stayed the same all night. It was busy, so staff likely didn't have a lot of time to do checks, but a few more checks and a clean are definitely needed.

Fantastic atmosphere, perfect for my son’s birthday celebration. Food has improved massively, great selection, friendly attentive staff. Cannot fault it. 🤠

Great food and service but the parking is terrible. They don’t check if people parking in the restaurant car park have reservations and as a result patrons can’t park their cars. Most were parking and then heading off on a long walk. Despite it being a great place for lunch, it has put us off booking here in future.

We've had dinner at Smith and Western twice in the last two weeks and, on both occasions, we had great meals with super service. The first time we were served by Philippa and the second time by Sam. Both were polite, fun, attentive and the food was really enjoyable. We will definitely return!

Since I went to this western style restaurant 2years ago , it became one one my favourite places to eat as the food is always amazing, or when I want to celebrate some special occasion I always choosing this one . Ansolutly awful! Never again. Gone down hill the last few years. Waiter to start with was miserable. Ordered bbq chicken and a burger with no sauce. It took for them 15minutes to bring my 2 years milkshake out. When food finally arrive the bbq chicken was fine but the burger came with all the sauces! Not once not twice but three times it took them to get it roght which was only thanks to the manager. Second time it returned exactly as they took it away- we knew it was the same as it has the ketchup added and squashed down as my husband prepared it before realising it had burger saice on the botton of the bun on the outside. It was only thanks to manager they got it right having kicked up a fuss and asked to speak to them. Manager was great but food way over priced for what it was for taste and size and service was poor! Started getting worse before covid and now I wouldnt even entertain it. Spoilt my familys evening meal which we dont have often at all. Such a shame and let down

Very disappointed, yes it was busy and told by our waitress as the day before mother's day they didn't expect so many people as Sunday was fully booked. So there wasn't as many staff as there would be on Sunday. Waited a Very long times for drink, then again to order food to be honest it was like a mad house ! Staff never stopped, running around. My mum 80th part ofer birthday treat as unable to travel to America anymore, the steak was so tough that she couldn't eat it full of grissle. We tried to catch someone attention but nothing, so we gave up. The ladies toilets were very wet and my mum has a stick nearly went flying. We did leave the waitresses a tip as she worked so hard. Don't think we will be back as the quality of the food was poor the restaurant wasn't that clean , the wait time was long and the loos wasn't great, so I don't think we will be back.

We went to Smith and Western Boxhill with my family, 7 people, we celebrated my husband's birthday, from the beginning nothing went as we planned, we couldn't find a parking space, be careful, after reporting it to the restaurant we were informed that Smith and Western do not guarantee a parking space, we were shocked, after waiting for 20 minutes we finally managed to park two cars and we finally managed to sit down, the table was dirty and sticky, it did not make a good impression on the guests and us, after a few minutes the waitress came to us and we placed our order, the food was served very quickly, but it was cold, the steak was chewy, it was impossible to eat it, the table was cleared quickly after we finished our meals, when we were asked about desserts, we said we were full , I was expecting the waiters to bring the belly buster birthday dessert which was ordered when I was making the reservation. Unfortunately instead of bringing birthday surprise desert the waitress brought us the bill which we didn't even ask about. After paying, when we still had half a bottle of wine, the same waitress who sat us at the table at the entrance approached us and she said we had 5 minutes to leave, I will add that the reservation was from 6 to 8 p.m. we were told to leave at 7:15 p.m., it was terrible how we were treated, and it was also on my husband's birthday, we live in Betchworth and this was our favorite restaurant, I am. Not sure if we come back very soon, I know that it was really busy that night but this is total lack of respect for the customers, I will add that after leaving the restaurant it turned out that our car was blocked because people park anywhere due to not enough parking spaces, what a terrible evening we had, I did tell the waitresses about desert and time slot which was booked for our reservation when we were leaving, she did apologize.

Have been to Boxhill before not much changed but disappointed to have to wait an extra 30mins for table for 12 (pre booked) then an extra 30 mins for some meals then a further extra time for the other two meals to turn up. Ladies toilets STILL not fixed just disabled one to use which was disgusting floor soaking and stank. BUT to top it all…. Wasn’t expecting to have to have meal with 4 dogs roaming around our table, if you are letting dogs in pleeease designate area for them and to be on a lead at all times, some customers do not like eating with animals near their meals especially when you are allergic to some dogs. Asked if had any allergens I automatically assumed it was to do with food!! I was not aware of it being dog friendly restaurant. Will definitely not be returning any time soon.

Had previously loved eating here and hadnt manged to visit for a while due to moving away. Over the past couple of months we decided to come back and give it another couple of goes, ones in the Horsham store and more recently at Box Hill. Unfortunately we have left disappointed each time. Firstly, when we went to the Horsham restaurant we had a booking for 8pm and werent actually seated until 8:45 and our food didnt arrive until 9:30 and was then lukewarm at best. More recently we visited Box Hill and although the atmosphere was fantastic as always and the staff were very friendly it was once again let down by the food. At quite a high price point I would hope for better but again there wasnt a single item on our plates that seemed fresh, it was all lukewarm and even cold in places. Perhaps we have just got unlucky with our past few visits but not sure if we will be returning in a hurry.

Staff were very friendly however the portion sizes were very small. When questioned they advised they were having supplier issues.

Came in for a birthday meal. Staff were fantastic as was the food, only let down was the lack of confident allergen practice. Mushroom allergy, ordered peppercorn sauce to have with steak, was told it was stored next to the mushroom sauce so there is a risk of cross contamination, which is not great practice, a new one should have been opened/made. Sauces came with meals, server then wanted to take the 'peppercorn' away to check it was right, came back and stated she was 'pretty sure' it was right. The lack of confidence meant we were unable to have the sauce due to fear of an allergic reaction.

An absolute great experience! From the warm welcome till the end! The food came quic despite the very busy Saturday lunch and absolute spotless! A big shout out to JON our waiter who looked after us and our furry baby You have definetely a new regular customer 🐾

Food was great. Service was a little slow but friendly staff. The only thing that was terrible was the amount.of kids literally running around the tables and climbing everything in sight , the staff tried to deal with it but it was unpleasant having kids climbing up next to us as we were trying to eat or running about everywhere.

I love it at Smith and Western, the music is brilliant and I have a little chair dance at my table! The food is super tasty and I am transported back to Nashville every time I visit!
