Visited yesterday with a few friends from my scooter club.
Nice place.
The staff were friendly and very welcoming.
Overall the pub had a good vibe.
I’ll definitely be returning.
WOW WOW THE BEST FISH & The curry sauce was wooow like i could literally eat it by itself!! the chips could be so much better, and i feel like vinegar or lemon should come on the side with fish! and the boys were really friendly and the order was ready super fast!!
The server had poor communication. I also asked for a large drink but he gave me a regular instead. I think he might be a new staff member but either way he should have more training!
I used to go here quite often but stopped going when the proprietor changed. It looks like little has changed, same menu at higher prices, same beers. We ordered the steak and mushroom pie. The pastry wasn't quite how I remembered it but it was fine. Unfortunately it was only lukewarm and my wife didn't like the fact they had put gravy on it. If they served that separately it would be better. I chose Surrey Hills Shere Drop which is potentially an excellent beer, but here it was mediocre.
The prices now seem over the top. Just along the road there's another pub that is much classier and has lower prices! It also turned out that they add a service charge here although I didn't see that on the menu and when I challenged it they didn't claim it was there. They hadn't even produced a bill listing it. They did refund it but that doesn't make it legal. It's not as if you get restaurant service anyway. To order you have to stand at the bar waiting for them to deign to come out from the back and you carry your drinks to the table. They do bring your food to the table but that's about it.
One to avoid I'm afraid.
Very poor choice and expensive. £26 for two burgers with wedges and two cold drinks. Burgers were horrid. Seasoned wedges barely lukewarm. To add insult to injury there were no condiments or sauces.
Won't be eating here again
Not one to leave bad reviews as I understand everyone has a different opinion and I would much rather leave positive feedback for small business, however here we are…
We brought a portion of chips today for £3.20 and whilst I understand prices are going up, that shouldn’t mean portion sizes are going down too. The bag of chips was the smallest portion I have ever brought. What weight that is I don’t know and to be perfectly honest I don’t care. I am comparing them to every other chip shop I have been to in the UK and it is disgusting how much they are charging for the smallest bag of mediocre chips.
I took the portion back in to ask how much I had paid for them and complained about the quantity provided which didn’t do me any favours as the three staff members didn’t seem to care or want to rectify but to be fair to them they are probably tired of people complaining about their portion sizes!
After purchasing these I have had a look at reviews and there are plenty of other customers complaining about the very same thing, so this isn’t a case of a ‘very hungry’ person writing a review. It’s a shame staff members are too busy being keyboard warriors and being blatantly rude and unprofessional when responding to reviews instead of thinking about the impact they may be having on their business.
Consistently the best fish and chips around! A regular for me, and not one time has it let me down! General go to for me is the haddock or cod… Will be going back again soon!
Tried to stop here for a coffee and snack with my dad, who has coeliac disease and requires strictly gluten-free food. Unfortunately, their “low gluten” muffins were not suitable. The staff member kindly explained that while the muffins are made with gluten-free ingredients, they’re baked in the same area as regular products, so there’s a risk of cross-contamination.
For someone with coeliac or a gluten allergy, “low gluten” simply isn’t safe—it’s either gluten-free or it’s not. Having something that looks like a safe option but isn’t actually safe is more frustrating than having no option at all.
A better solution might be to offer pre-packaged gluten-free items that are prepared off-site, or to invest in a small separate oven to avoid cross-contamination. Until then, this isn’t a coeliac-friendly stop, which is disappointing in 2025.
Ordered 2 lasagnes and the person on phone asked if I wanted beef or veggie, asked for beef and when order arrived it was 2 spaghetti Bolognese. I Telephoned to say order was wrong and they were not interested in the fact they had got the order wrong. Won’t be ordering again.
The manager here is fantastic. This was the store where I discovered Knoops. The selection of Hot Chocolate blew me away. I don’t drink coffee and this shop made me feel spoilt, like a kid in a sweet shop.
I now Knoops at home. My 43% I can’t live without.
10/10 be back soon.
Fancied a Chinese Takeaway so decided to order from Ho Ho. Delivery came relatively quickly.
The Chicken Fried Rice and Special Fried Rice were both nice, though a little greasy. The Crispy Shredded Chili Beef was lovely, the Sweet & Sour Chicken balls were nice. Most of the prawn crackers were nice, but many were a little hard and undercooked.
Unfortunately, there were some negatives...
The Won Ton Soup (prawns and vegetables) didn't appear to contain any prawns, but tasted more like sausage meat.
The Chicken Chow Mein was probably the worst one I've ever had. As soon as I opened the tub, you could smell burnt. Some of the noodles were black, you can see some in the photo. It was nice and dry, just as I like it, the taste was ok, but always a burnt flavour. The chicken in it tasted awful and chewy.
Burnt noodles might be a common occurrence, looking at other reviews. I presumed they were having an off day, so gave them a chance. Should have listened.
Overall, burnt noodles and poor chicken, I can't give it any more than 2/5⭐.
