Seafare in Guildford

I ordered a takeaway fish and chips for the family, at an award winning top 10 UK fish and chips shop... I was horrified to find out that I had been served. Happy shopper frozen chips from the corner shop next door. I immediately took them back and was refused a refund. And police had to be called.. I have it all on video of the mad admitting he got them from the freezer next door, because he had ran out of chips. This will be posted on every social media network and was on live feed.. absolutely disgusting staff and they should be stripped of there awards!!!!

After using this fish and chip shop since childhood, myself and husband popped for a takeaway this evening. On arrival there was 2 people in front of me with a female member of staff serving them. A male member then came to take my order, he gave the impression of being frustrated. I asked if there was the option of lightly battered cod, he said what's there is there so I accepted, fish and chips, sausage and chips, peas and curry sauce costing just short of £20. The next customer arrived and again they couldn't fulfil requested order as they'd ran out, when then asked for cod without the skin he was told just pick it out, the male member of staff then said what do you expect for a Thursday night. Given the time was only just gone 7pm I am shocked at the atrocious customer service and bad attitude. I would never normally leave a poor review but when home my fish was so dry and I feel dissatisfied by the whole experience. Such a shame given for years we've really enjoyed.

Got 2 cod and chips meal plus 2 kids meal one was a burger and the other was a chicken nugget meal. To say I was very disappointed and angry is an understatement 1 - £5.95 for a kids meal to be given just 3 chicken nuggets, worst portion I've ever encountered but I accept that as I should have checked the portion before ordering im use to atleast 6 considering the price for a frozen bag of nuggets. 2 - the kids burger was dry and just dashed between 2 buns, no sauce no lettuce etc. Again considering the price I paid what I receive did not come close to even a 0.99p McDonald's burger. Oh I must not forget to mention the I've salty chips

Excellent fish and chips as usual however despite there being no customers in the shop (except me) I was told by man with shaved head to “wait outside” four times despite the fact that I was still waiting to complete placing my order. Suggest he realises it’s customer who keep the business going, maybe he should find another job.

I've been going here for years and it used to be excellent. Sadly it has detoriated fast. Clearly the bald man working there was having a bad day. The young woman working there was friendly and took my order. The man then came from the back and asked me to wait outside because of covid, which I happily did. The woman called me in to say my order was ready and the man instantly pounced on me telling me to get out and shouting at abuse at me for no reason. I grew up in Guildford and have never felt unsafe here until today. The man proudly proclaimed he was the manager even though noone asked and I ran from the shop in fear with them having taken my money and with no food to show for it. It is very sad what has become of a once good establishment. Avoid at all costs.

Always used to get our fish & chips from here, but I haven't lived in Guildford for a long while now, so haven't been here for ages. Called in for takeaway on a random visit. Got it all home, about a 20 minute drive away & it was lovely. Obviously wasn't as hot, but still warm, very impressed how crunchy all the batter was despite being in a bag for the trip! Lovely staff, very polite & happy young lady served us & well thought out Covid control when ordering. Best fish & chips we've had for a long while!!

We’d had an early start and an active morning; everybody had a craving for fish and chips. A quick search on TA and Seafare came to the rescue. We arrived early (just at opening at 12:00) and didn’t have to wait long - the social distancing rules were clear and great. And most importantly the fish and chips were delicious and hit the spot. Exactly what we were looking for.

Over 30 plus years as a family we've stopped here 3 or 4 times a year on the way back from Hampshire / Sussex. This was the first time this year due to the virus but I was pleased to see in a January Daily Mail they continue to feature in national Fish & Chip shop awards. Wife queued on the pavement with a few others was charged an exorbitant £16 plus for 2 regular cod and regular chips and was handed two bags in the doorway. Drove off down the road to our usual laybay and I was shocked at the small portions, I concur with an earlier review that they were "ant sized". Chips and batter were soggy, acceptably hot but I suspect they'd been festering in the bag for a long while ready to hand to the queuing masses asking for "cod & chips four times please". No a hint of the requested salt and vinegar, that must've been in short supply too. This will be our last visit, there's a couple of decent and far cheaper chippies nearer home. I wonder if the business has changed hands ?

I'm more than a little iffy when it comes to fish but Corin and his team at Seafare Guildford always look after me. They provide fantastic customer service, even taking the skin off my cod before they batter it.... oh and what a delicious crispy batter it is!!! Highly recommended, superb quality with fantastic service!

Always a winner. The fish is fresh and well battered. Chips are good too. They serve us burgers and curry as well too. Generally don’t ever have to wait too long to get served and then the food. They take card and contactless.

Higher prices, smaller portions every time I go. Always regret going but as I’m local sometimes hunger strikes and is a last resort. Enough chips to feet an ant. We get it you won an award, not sure how!

Love this place. Delicious, quick food. We always just get chips and are never disappointed. Prices are reasonable too.

Overall good, but sometimes the batter on fish is too thick in parts so it doesn't cook properly and chips not browned enough (though accept this is to personal taste). When you get your fish home it's too late to do anything about it. They need to take more care when battering, even when really busy, as too many times can put customers off. But quality of ingredients is always good. Sometimes chip portions are much larger than other days and again, they need to be more consistent so people don't feel short changed if they end up with a smaller portion than usual.

The ginger girl is so rude and unapproachable, I won’t be returning. Sorry for ordering chips in the chip shop..

Been going here for years (decades!). Consistently GOOD, always well cooked food and reasonable portions. Although generally the most expensive Chippy in your area (NE Surrey), even in Guildford and therefore the South of England, outside Greater London.For many years the Worplesdon Rd branch has been let down by underpaid young staff who obviously don't care a h@@t about customer service - last night was over-charged £2 to give me a £2 discount!! Yeah, I'm guessing the staff may be making up the difference. Whatever - left a bad taste, won't hurry back.

We had a suggestion for fish and chips and the local recommended this one. It is telling that come opening time the place already has a steady stream of customers. Prices very reasonable for the size and quality of product offered. Battered to perfection- light, crispy and oil free. Easily recommended if youre looking for fast and effective take out.

At the Guildford Air Cadets we run recruit weekends for around 20 kids and 5 staff twice a year. On the Saturday we order in Fish & Chips (plus other vegetarian options) and these guys always do us proud. Every portion cooked to perfection and hungry cadets and staff very happy.

This place is a local favourite serving classic fish and chips. The fish is usually made less greasy and chip portions are generous. Our kids love the fish especially and have very complementary things to say about it. We do not have classic fish and chips that often, but when we do, this place is our go-to place.

Once again Corin and his team fed our hungry recruits and staff from 261 (Guildford) Squadron Air Training Corps on their training weekend. This time we had 28 portions, everything great, everything perfect... see you all in the New Year guys when we do it all again.

Surly service. The fish and the chips were a very low standard. This used to be a good takeaway with very friendly staff, but it has gone down hill in a big way. Will not be returning.

Chips are always tasty bit the only reason we stayed away was the portion sizes to what you paid for. I have to say going back after a while of not visiting the portion sizes and increased with the prices being inline with everyone else and as always the cod is lovely.

Used to be good until the previous owner moved on, now a definite example of "shrinkflation". Not value for money and I'm on a quest to find an alternative.

An off the cuff visit on a cold Sunday evening on the way home from cricket. Perfect fish and chips, and contrary to other reports exactly the portion size we wanted. And how wonderful that they are open at all on a Sunday. Just a bit more warmth from the staff, perhaps with an acknowledgment that we were next in the queue, would make it 5 stars.

Cod OK, batter not crisp, but chips dire - overcooked, congealed in one lump with excessive oil. Over-vinegared. Not worth a 10 mile round trip to complain, but won't be going back any time soon.

Appears to be a chain with another in the area. Accidentally managed to visit both in a two week period thinking they were the same. . . Both had the SMALLEST portion of "large" chips I've ever seen. Chips were nothing special, but not terrible. However, a large chips should be enough for two people and this just wasn't. I asked the young guy serving it up if it was a large chips - he just looked a little embarrassed (like they get that question a lot) and said "yeah". Will not be going back to either this one or the other one of the same name. For that price, they can afford to give you some more chips!! Stingy.

Rang to check whether food contained dairy. I heard lots of discussion in the background, and someone said ‘I don’t think so’. This was passed back to me as ‘not that I know of’. I asked for what their allergens menu said, and was told first that they use vegetable oil ‘so there is no peanut oil’. I asked again about dairy and was told they have gluten free days. I said they were required by law to have an allergens list and asked what it said, and was told ‘I don’t think there is dairy’. We didn’t order as the staff couldn’t answer a question they were legally required to know the answer to, and couldn’t tell me if their food was safe for me.

Won’t go anywhere else, great food, friendly staff and good value. Gluten free is brilliant as we can eat as a family Good for parties too.

Recientemente me pidieron un paquete de fiesta para 20 personas para una reunión familiar al aire libre la noche. Fue entregado a tiempo, caliente, cajas de poliestireno, con sal, vinagre, ketchup y cubiertos de plástico. La comida era deliciosa y disfrutadas por todos. Totalmente recomendado.

No he usado estos chicos un rato para que les dio una oportunidad ya que estaba cerca. No me sirven pequeñas patatas fritas porción (sólo ofrece med y grande) que es una locura, el bacalao era grasienta. En general, no es una experiencia agradable y no ir de nuevo ya no vender pequeñas porciones. Habiendo dicho eso, su tamaño de la porción era del mismo tamaño que la pequeña normalmente nos dan de Bramley y el precio del mismo

we use this branch quite often its closer to home , they serve up good size portion of chips , fish is good quality and tasty , batter crispy . only gripe is from my husband that you can only buy half a chicken , whats happened to the chicken quarter a half is too big and generally there isnt any ready so you need towait about 15 min . other than that we would recommend , its good value and good food, staff clean tidy and presentable

I went there this evening for a takeaway. I had only heard good things about this place. I got there at 7.30pm - there was already a small que but the staff were and friendly and speedy with orders. The portions are huge for what you pay!! The fish was very soft, everything you would want and the batter was perfectly crispy. Only downside was most of the chips were undercooked and slightly hard where they were trying to get them out fast for service. Would definitely go there again tho!

Well it's simple really , Seafare have been a round for years . We have lived in the area for 26 years and have used them for big parties as well. Great fish and chips and wouldn't use anyone else

The shop seems to be constantly promoting its success in one award or another, so I tried it yesterday evening. I arrived around 7:30, so it should have been peak time as far as business was concerned. Instead, it was surprisingly quiet, which might explain why my food was cold by the time I drove it home (3 miles). Everything was greasy, and although the batter was crispy and the fish portion generous, I was disappointed and left hungry - it does seem that chippies in the UK have lost the art of frying good food!

By way and without a doubt best chippy in Guildford. Quality chips, great tasting fish and super offers.Great busy between 530pm - 730pm especially on a Friday but worth the wait.

This is the best chippie in Surrey! The staff is especially nice. Even though the queue was big, the staff flew through the orders and got to me in no time. Fantastic!

Just been to this chippy and the queue is out of the door. It's cold and people still keep arriving. The smell of that fish just draws the British public in from far. It's people of all ages that wait patiently for their special order and staff are very patient as we all shuffle around in the small but adequate space of the serving area. The neon lights make the shop very authentic and the food is served nice and hot ready to take away and eat.

I visit this shop once a week normally. The food is definately the best fish and chips in Guildford. Really is outstanding, a must visit if you're in Guildford!

The best fish and chips for miles - and fantastic standards of cleanliness and service. I am usually served by a tall guy, around 19/20 - quietly efficient and yet friendly. He is typical of the standard of staff and does an excellent job. Everything is fresh, nothing is greasy - and the whole place is spotless.

I go to this chip shop most weeks to get takeaway for me and my kids. The kids love the sausage and chips kids meal and just the right portion size for them. I can't eat fried food so the owner kindly puts my food in the oven for me, usually a quarter chicken but other food can be put in the oven too, which means I can treat myself too. Very friendly staff and the owner likes to make sure the customers are happy.

I confess I am not English so I may be used to way better food than fish and chips. However I have tried it in several other places (more like sit down pubs/restaurants) and this is not the place to go, unless you don't like fish and just want a thick layer of fried stuff.

Regularly go here for our fish and chips. Good quality, friendly staff and the family meal deal is great value.

Seafare is our local takeaway shop serving consistently good tasting fish and chips. Meal times are usually fairly busy but staff are fairly efficient. As far as chippy shops go, we have returned to this over and over because they know how to cook it right - not over fried and over-battered, crispy with reasonably sized portions. It is not greasy and they use healthy oil. We do not eat fish and chips anywhere else locally.

A fish and chips lunch for 22 persons at lunchtime on Wed 14.10.15.This was a very good fish and chips lunch, supplied for takeaway. Great service by the staff.

My family won't have fish and chips from anywhere else in Guildford. Mum loves their fish and my son loves their chicken nuggets, hubby loves the savaloys.

Great traditional fish and chip shop, very happy that they now have longer opening hours! They also do annual charity events, and can do outside catering for organised events, for example fish and chip suppers in boxes for a quiz night.

The quality is good, although you may still feel hungry afterwards. The portion size could be questioned that other Fish and Chip shops in the area are better although the lunchtime meal deal will give you some value for money.

Went there to get food for my house mates and myself. Everybody was extremely happy with their food, the fish was tasty, not sloppy, and the chips were great. The staff and service were fantastic, definitely the best fish and chips I've had in a long time.

It was recommended to me by some friends' Chefs (when I was stating to them "the going down quality" of the traditional Fish & Chips in this area) to try the "Seafare" in Guildford...I have been so impressed that I wish I could give the 2 chefs there a big Hug each of THANKS .I am not a fan of the Chips(in fish and chips shops,:often steamy and soggy so I opte generally for "Fries" when on offer.). But this time I went with an open mind to be able to assess; the 'real thing' And I ordered:" the biggest size Cod you have & a Small portion of Chips please Chef " and did ask to have them separately packed.... What a wonderful take away I had been served there !!! a really big size of a real fresh Cod (not a Pollock) nicely cooked with a beautiful flavor flaked flesh, in a light crispy batter fried in a super clean vegetable oil... with also surprisingly a very nice 1/2 portion of well made chips.. certainelly blanched first and then fried.in a separate fryer than the Fish !!!--- Marks note:.20 out of 20Thanks to you,the team at Seafare Guildford.I shall return for more soon and Hug the Chef It would be nice to have access to some Lemons instead of vinegar (sorry if I was not looking properly for some ...

We use Seafare Worplesdon regularly, great for the lunch time specials when the kids are off school, always welcomed and served with a smile, I think the food is fab and wouldn't go anywhere else!

I ordered cod and chips and got a decent sized portion of both. The cod was moist and flakey. Tasted fresh not frozen though I don't know if they use frozen, I'd say not as it was so moist. The batter was crisp not too greasy although I've had better flavoured batters elsewhere so it loses a point. Chips were very good. Not the best I've had from a chippy but good for Guildford, equally as good as you'll find elsewhere. All in all good contender for best chippy in Guildford. Savloy is excellent too.....

£6 for a giant cod, what a joke the batter was thick, greasy and the chips were off cuts. AWARDS?? the latest one was at least 7 years ago... The food was not what other reviews were raving on about. Very disappointed and will not be going back! I thought we would go somewhere different for Fish n Chips but the only thing to come out of this was a bad experience. Do yourself a favour and go to another chippie.

I've had quite a few takeaways from the last couple of years, and does the best fish and chips I've had yet from a chippy. The portion sizes aren't enormous like some chip shops, but they are still fairly generous and a more realistic size for one person to be able to finish. That and their chips are very good and not particularly expensive!They are also very quick to serve from coming through the door, although this may be because I usually order pie and chips that they tend to have more pre-cooked than others.

Fish was the best takeaway fish I've had, not greasy at all, batter was very light and crisp. Chips were good, just standard sort of thing

We have probably been here 6 or so times in the last couple of years and the cod has always been very good, and the chips, even, a small portion, plentiful. I notice that several reviewers have mentioned very small portions but we've never found this to be the case. Maybe we've been lucky! llso, great value compared to other takeaways such as pizza or Chinese....would recommend.

Amazing! a local fish and chip shop doing gluten free batter for fish. They do it on the first and third Monday of each month and it is delicious.

Portions are small, used to live in Bordon, the Seafare there did huge portions. Here you get a handful of chips for a large portion, cod is sometimes very small as well. Generally it's Ok from here. Parking can be an issue some of the time. We normally get a family meal which is well worth it at £12 feeds all of us.My only grumbles would be, slightly more chips, less grease, and cook the chips a little longer as sometimes they are white and slightly hard/undercooked.Staff friendly

As we were driving home we decided to get fish and chips but as it was Sunday the Burpham one was closed so we thought that this would be just as good as it is the same company and has also won lots of awards as has the Burpham shop. They couldn't be more different though. The portions at this one were tiny - about 10 chips for a small portion and 20 for a large, the chips were uncooked and so were hard and inedible. The rest of the food was just not nice at all. It was all overly greasy but really dried out, but at the same time looked undercooked. It was quite possibly the worst chippy we've ever had, well I've never thrown fish and chips in the bin before so that says it all really.Moral of the story, stick with what you know and if its a Sunday get a KFC!How 2 chip shops, apparently the same company and both with multiple awards, can be at different ends of the quality scale I just don't know, but needless to say we will stick with the Burpham one in future.

Parking is a problem. You really do have to be careful not to park across the junction corner, or at the bus stop - just walk a few more yards, eh, and park safely up the side road! Premises are spotlessly clean, food is freshly prepared and of very high quality, prices are reasonable.

During a house move we needed something that was quick and easy and looked up a chippy in Guildford and Seafare came up...we were so glad it did!The staff were friendly and the service was lightning fast and when I got home the food was still piping hot and delicious! I would definitely recommend their takeaway!

Seafare is said to be one of the best fish and chips in England or ect well the fish and chips we had certainly wasn't more like the worst fish and chips in England! We orderd and in fairness to the staff the service was quick and officent which was probably the only good thing!When We got home I opened the bag up when I got home I was less than impressed we had orderd 3 medium sized cods 2 small cods and 2 chips! What we got was 5 tiny greasy undercooked cods with a minuscule amount of green chips! I found seafarers number and rang them up to complain they offered to deliver all of my original order for free (well instead of me buying it again) . They came with the meals all of it was much better thankfully and they were very apologetic but that's not the point I paid about £20 in the first place it's not to much to ask for it to be edible!

On holiday in guildford for a few day stumbled across the place by accident thought we try it for tea.had fish and two bags of chip £3.95 for fish and £1.50 per bag of chips.price reasonable till i got back to the travelodge and opened up the chips omg there was hardly anything in there.what a shame as ide never go back there.only good thing was what little we did eat was nice.i hate rip off chippys.!!!

I am a regular here but often try other F&C shops in the area. I still come back to Seafare though. Just great quality Fish and Chips every time.

We are not fans of this fish and chip shop. We live locally and have obviously used this one several times over the years as it is close to where we live. Staff are friendly, it looks clean, BUT the fish and particularly the chips is tired, it tastes and looks like it has been sitting around for a long time keeping warm. We have gone at varying times and always found this to be so. We no longer use this fish and chip shop.
