Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Guildford

Annoyingly Nando’s was full so we ended up going next door for the worst dining experience ever. Warned as we arrived that they didn’t have much food in stock… but that was ok, we just wanted burger and chips, which they had. When ordering on the app, (as no one came to our table after we were sat down) I forgot to make it “two” child meals. I went to the till straight away to explain, but was greeted with a real attitude of “I’m not interested in helping you” After a few minutes of the guy faffing on the machine and constantly telling me he can’t promise anything to correct the order(!) (it was simply to add the kids meal reduction, which the deal was kids get a £2 meal with an adult meal)…. I just said I’ll happily just cancel it and redo it if it’s too much trouble, which was met with more huffing and puffing. I finally bit the bait and said I’ll just cancel the whole order then and go some where else, to which he quickly then said, oh it’s ok I’ll just comp it as it’s only £2. So after that fiasco, I felt like we’d finally got somewhere, but considering we were only one of the two tables being served, or should I say, NOT being served or waited on… it took over 30 mins to receive our cold food. We heard a bell ring from upstairs 20 minutes after ordering, but the staff ignored it. I assume that was our food, and probably why we got I cold 10 mins later. Just before our food arrived, I followed the sign to the toilets, but half way up the stairs I got shouted at and told they were out of order. I just replied “I was following the sign”, and the guy said “oh, checking on your food were you?” (As the kitchen was upstair)… I mean, probably a good thing, as our food then arrived, so again, I took that as a win. But, the fries were ridiculous, so thin, cold and hard. Our children’s burgers were burnt round the edges. My wife’s burger was tiny and tasteless. No one came over to check in on us, or ask about the food. Staff were just leaning at the counter on their phone, and instead of waiting us, were just waiting to go home. We ended up just leaving (as we’d already paid on the app) as no one came over, and I was too annoyed to go up and complain, we just wanted to leave at that point. Everything seemed to be a big effort for these guys, and anything they said was incredibly insincere and baiting for some sort of argument?! It was the most bizarre, awkward atmosphere I’ve ever experienced. On reflection and feeling really deflated about it the next day, I wish we had just left, but we just kept giving them the benefit of the doubt. Being nice doesn’t pay at this place. Avoid at all costs.

It took 45 minutes for our burgers to come out, there were only three couples in the restaurant. They forgot our chips and overchanged us £11.90

Had a terrible experience here a couple of weeks ago. Used their online form to complain...twice - not heard anything back. Don't visit!

Visited with friends on Saturday but left due to lack of knowledge on allergens. Started badly as given a gluten free menu when it's a diary issue. Eventually told to ordee at the till. No availability of allegergen menu / tablet at the till, rather they would just make what I wanted dairy free. Chef came down to help and indicated there should be a tablet but front of house were oblivious to any existing. I did try and talk it through with the chef, who did provide some good ideas. However when they confused eggs as diary, despite both being separate allergens, I decided I didn't have enough faith to dine in. I should add that I attempted to look up online allergen menu's but there was insufficient signal. Be hyper aware if you suffer an allergy or intolerance.

Manager kyal was quite rude. I found food was good. Need to improve on service.

Staff didn’t seem to know general front of house service. Long wait. Poor quality food. Plastic in one of the meals. Blue light card discount removed £1.25 (should have been 10%) £8.50 for a small glass of wine… When we payed the manager said makes sure it’s real to cashier, in front of my wife (ref paying with cash) all round poor service and quality of over fried food. Will not be returning.

Went for the 50 % off deal by GBK. Average at best with the staffs just seemed not really up for the job. Chicken burger tasted alright but could be more juicy

Was greeted by Kyal who gave me excellent service. You guys did a good job hiring this young man. Got the taxi driver and fries, was delicious and was enjoyed by my girlfriend and I.

Went in last month with my girlfriend, we were welcomed very warmly by Kyal who showed us to a table swiftly. We ordered onion rings, truffle fries and the GBK bacon burger. Everything was full of flavour and cooked to perfection.

The only reason I put 4 stars for the food is because I believe it was overpriced for what it was. You have to order chips separately which hikes up the bill, it also seems to be company policy to charge for any extras, even if you remove one kind of cheese to add a less expensive cheese, this is kinda of whack and a slight deterrent from returning. The vegan options were almost unimaginative. However, there was more than one option and I like the fact that they use different types of meat alternatives. Also a rare option for a vegan milkshake which was decent. Service a great. The manager on staff was very friendly and on ball.

Hamburger very tasty and delicious, I really enjoyed the Vegan version 🫶The staff very welcoming and friendly.

Went to the Guildford branch recently, the bloke at the front of the house was spot on, friendly, good at making conversation and the food and drink was bang on too. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is because of the waiting around time and it wasn’t that busy either. The food service area was full of plates waiting to be taken to the tables, admittedly it isn’t that big an area but it was full. Everything else was parfait.

Me and my partner went to GBK and Kyal was nothing but welcoming, we offered him a tip however he didn’t want it. He had very good manners and made sure everything was okay. Couldn’t thank him enough for being so welcoming

A great restaurant with friendly staff. My go to place if I want a good burger. Did get an order wrong slightly as they adding a topping we didn't want but that was a once off and that wasn't my burger so I think this place is perfect

The meal took 35 minutes to arrive. The fries were hard and extremely crispy The burger bun was toasted with the sides burned,

Ordered burger and chips and both were over cooked. The chips would not stay on fork and flew onto table they were over cooked. We were not asked if the meal was OK. If we had we would have returned our meals. We were in a rush due to an appointment so ate what was edible. The chef and server could have seen it was not acceptable but still served it. Definitely won't be going back.

Ordered from Deliveroo, and it was cancelled by the restaurant after an hour. Really poor way to manage customer expectations. Just don’t accept orders that you can’t deliver.

Loved the burgers We all consumed the lot so they must have been great. Seriously, the food is excellent and the service great. Small restaurant but nice atmosphere. I thoroughly recommend it.

Ordered a burger meal for collection with a specific pick up time, I arrived 10 mins early so of course waited the extra 10 mins as the food wasn’t ready. It turned up cold, not exaggerating btw it was as if it was cooked when I ordered it an hour ago. Considering the price they charge for a meal this is extremely poor, not sure why I had to wait for cold food either

There is some real problems here. Got a click and collect today which was stone cold and clearly been sitting for a while. Went back to store and they made another one but a couple of things were wrong. 1. No apology for serving cold food and 2. The food that was served a second time was not made with any care and was soaking in grease. Really poor standard, or lack of. GBK charges a higher price for what in all honesty is sub par food. At least from this outlet. The staff there are rarely present or attentive. If you visit, you will experience a long wait before someone acknowledges you. Spend your money elsewhere.

Avoid if vegetarian or vegan. My burger and fries was £20 for low portion mediocrity, best off going to one of many other burger places. My vegetarian friend was given meat burger to eat which they considered ok(refund and apology given on protest , not automatically offered). Light entertainment when the meat burger with bite out of it was given to correct person - like yeah no problem GBK happy to have a second hand burger with bite out of it 😂😳. Took family for a meal. Food was lovely and staff were nice but my dad asked a staff member (who I'm assuming was new) whether he was sure it was the right burger they had given him. The staff member stuck his fingers into my dad's burger to see for himself.This was highly unprofessional and not sanitary in any way. This unfortunately ruined his experience.

Went for a meal here with a colleague, food was brilliant like a party in my mouth, service came very quickly.. the fire alarm went off twice because of a dodgy sensor what I didn't like is they list what toppings are on the burger but put lettuce, tomato's and onions as "salad" what if I was allergic to Onions?? Another small business that doesn't list the full details of the toppings, this is why I usually go to Burger King, McDonald's and KFC Overall it was ok and I'd give it a solid 6/10

Quiet and well-lit place. Lovely food. Quick service from friendly staff.

We came here in a busy Saturday night. The staff tried to squeeze us in between two other parties which we didn’t want so left and came back an hour later when it was virtually empty. Despite this it took 25 minutes to get cold food and when I questioned if our order (via the app) had been received I was told ‘I’m sure it has’ without even checking. The food is expensive, two burgers and chips - no sides or drinks is £30. The staff seem more interested in clearing up so they can go home on time rather than customer service. Food looks very basic, given the burger competition nowadays it won’t be long till GBK no longer exists.

I ordered on Deliveroo a burger and fries, I then had to call the restaurant to remove a certain item. Staff told me no problem they can do it. Not only did I receive my chips cold, my burger was also containing the item I asked to be removed. The whole order is inedible, to make matters worse Deliveroo won’t issue me a refund.

Went in with my girlfriend and our child. I ordered a mighty and it was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. My girlfriend ordered gluten free beef burger and said she enjoyed this option. Our child is very picky and GBK really we’re patient and catered to all of our needs. Great shakes too! Great service from Matilda and Jacob, all smiles, so polite and patient. See you guys soon :)

We have ordered 2 burgers and 2 sides and waited almost 30mins. No one asked what we ordered. When we raised the issue 2 times, finally we got the orders. However, one of the staff were really rude to me because I didn’t thank her. Almost 4 tables came and leaved, we waited a lot, then this behaviour is not acceptable. Update: We just left the branch and the lady chased us and shouted us “have a not good evening”. You should check cameras inside and outside. This is very rude and unacceptable. We will never visit GBK again.

The lady at the bar was lovely The sweet potato fries were very tasty The burger was pretty good however they could have grilled the bun a little longer it was a little soggy against the meat

We were served by Hritik and the assistant manager that night, their service was excellent nothing was to much trouble. The food we all had was excellent, I had one of the best Burgers I have ever had with the fantastic thick chips. I also had the Strawberry milkshake again one of the best I’ve ever had. Also the house white wine which was very palatable. We will definitely be returning.

Given all the stars due to the current team there ✨️ always ready to welcome customers, good energy and vibes from the manager and her team you can tell you works hard. Food is superb, I recommend the mighty 🤌🏾 war with 2 patties but with a milkshake to wash it down you can gear up for chunky or skinny fries 🍟. Good services, good food 😋

I was expecting better as I had eaten there a few weeks earlier when the food and service were good. This time however, the chef seemed to have tipped a jar of salt into the food - the burger was crunchy with salt which seemed to make up about half the burger! It was totally inedible. The side salad and coleslaw were also too salty, and the potato wedges were heavily coated in salt. I managed to wipe off the worst of it and eat a few. A complete waste of money. The surly waiting staff also avoided asking 'How is your meal?' as is usual. They must have known how bad it was. I'm deleting my GBK app and will never return.

Great food at a pretty decent price, the staff need to occasionally put a smile on their faces as they don't create a very good atmosphere, it would be good to feel welcomed!

Everything to do with the food was absolutely phenomenal. Burger, fries and milkshake were all top tier, well worth the slightly higher price compared to other places. Service one we were there was good, however, there was a sign at the door to "wait to be seated". After about 10 minutes standing at the door with no staff in sight, we just found our own table. But hey, absolutely minor and nothing to overshadow the food

The burgers were excellent and the Sweet potato fries too! 🤩Fresh and quality ingredients, perfectly medium rare cooked beef (but you can ask for rare or medium etc. too). The staff was kind, the place is friendly, just very simple and calm for an afternoon burger!😊🍔Will be back!

Sorry GBK couldn't tell you whether your burgers are any good because I couldn't wait for mine any longer. Had a train to catch and the 15 mins promised for my takeaway came and went as did my patronage.....which is a pity....I was looking forward to the phantom burger 😁

We just ordered 2 Double cheeseburger and 2 milkshakes the burgers just got first after 20 min waiting we had to ask for the milkshakes and the staff didn’t liked it when we got the milkshakes was like a water and really warm, I’ll never come back there that’s really bad service for the costumers.

I’ve ordered at this restaurant 3 times now. Every single time the results have been shocking. Burnt and dry burger (I order it medium rare). Undercooked floppy chips. Chewy and over cooked chicken to the point it shrinks to half the size it should be. I know how good the food can be because the Staines GBK is amazing every single time. You need to get them to teach you how to cook.

Really poor service , we waited almost an hour for food to arrive even though they did day that my allergy food would take longer than normal… but an hour?? Restaurant is filthy too… Very disappointed, and not cheap either!

Won’t bother with this branch again. There was a small queue to get in which is fine, it’s the week before Christmas so we were expecting it to be busy everywhere. Didn’t realise it was because there were 2 girls trying to run the whole place and none of the empty tables had been cleared ready for the next customer. It was ok. We were seated. I gave our order at the bar. And so we waited. And waited. Aaaaand waited. I’m he drinks came 15 minutes after we’d ordered them and the food? Well who knows. After 40 minutes and several times asking how much longer it would be I asked for a refund where the waitress snatched my receipt out of my hand to process it without even an acknowledgment or apology. The most frustrating this was that I’m pretty sure our food had been prepared for quite a while as there were several plates on the pass waiting to be served to the (clearly more patient than me) customers but the staff were too busy fulfilling all the just eat and Deliveroo orders instead. As I was being so graciously granted the refund our food appeared, so the waitress dealing with me literally ran to the table to tell her colleague that we absolutely could not have the food now and to take it away. We’ve been to the GBK in Staines and I highly recommend travelling there instead as the staff and service is head and shoulders above the cluster that is the Guildford branch. Save your money. Go to McDs instead.

We walked out. I've been to GBK before in other cities and it lives up to it's premium branding, but the service here was awful. We had to go and find someone to be seated and the restaurant isn't big and wasn't busy, the staff essentially stayed behind the bar talking to each other and ignoring the customers. We tried to order via the app but had questions, again we needed to go and find someone, by the time we'd got ready to order it was something like £75, I saw the table next door's food come out and it looked average and I thought to myself "£75 is too much for average food and poor service" having wasted a good 30 mins on ordering we finally gave up and walked out. I've enjoyed GBK in the past, but this is far below average for the chain and the manager needs to do something about the staff and service.

Unfortunately couldn't eat here because of being refused service due to allergies. Front of house lady said that as there was not a manager working then she was unable to take my order due to food allergies. Wonder how many people were turned away with loss of business. If you have good allergies I would avoid the place.

I loved that the bun could be replaced with coleslaw and the milkshakes are on another level! Our waiter Storm was really polite and friendly. Would definitely recommend as a planned meal, it’s value for the price.

Banging place makes the best food in Surrey. Chef Jude takes care of all food enquiries and the assistant manager runs the place so well she might as well be owner. 5 stars well deserved, much better than 5 guys across the street. Chef Jude should be made head chef because of how well he runs the kitchen.

My teenage daughter visited with her friend. She was treated with politeness from the staff, found the food great, and thoroughly enjoyed herself.

Had a pretty good experience overall, had a large party on a Saturday night. The staff were great, Laura introduced herself and took our orders and made sure any dietary requirements were met. Unfortunately they were missing a lot of items from their menu, like drinks, gluten free items, and they couldn't promise that items are made in a nut-free environment. Otherwise a good meal for most people who went!

Meh, I took advantage of the £7.50 burger deal. Looks like you get treated like someone who takes advantage of the deal too. I was sidelined when I arrived to take care of a bigger table, burger was ok suppose but the fries were thrown on the plate instead of a separate container (not massive deal but had to separate from burger juices so a pain). You can have a great business idea but if its run by people who don't care all your hard work is wasted. Wont go again.

Okay. First try at Gourmet. The table was not cleaned up on time. The till order service is near to none. Staff was taking to other staff in the middle of ordering. The light is dim so you can't see much clearly. Notice a few downlight bulbs are not working.

I was really disappointed with our experience today. It took 40 minutes for our order to arrive (with two hungry children who should have been in bed it wasn't great). The staff were moderately helpful but blamed a food intolerance on the delay; annoying as if they'd cooked our order when we first put it through there would have been no issues as the restaurant was almost empty. The burgers were ok and it's nice to be able to have the meat cooked to your liking. The children's menu is well priced and portion sizes are good.
