I'm adding to my previous review to make an additional point. When I visited yesterday with a friend, she produced her loyalty card only to be told that points are now only recorded on an app. I don't have a smartphone, so presumably this excludes me from earning loyalty points. A slightly negative aspect to an otherwise good visit.

Top quality food. Ambitious menu. Worth my drive 30 miles for special occasion meal. Run by husband and wife team that own the premises so do have to pay rent for expensive town accomodation or to employ a star chef. Therefore prices very reasonable for quality delivered. Restaurant out of town near A27 so no country views. But not aware of traffic once inside. Also easy parking in restaurant garden so no access problems.

This is a beautiful place to dine, with excellent food and high standards of service, though not always the fastest, which was fine for us as we were not in a hurry. It is worth a trip to the loo just to admire the beautiful corridor! Prices reflect the upmarket environment.

As the only pub in Loxwood, with a traditional 'pub' feel, including open fire, family and pet friendly, an enormous 'plus' is the restaurant which specializes in 'smokehouse' meats. This was our second visit to the Onslow since its rebranding and the quality of the fare and experience as a whole was consistent. This has now become our 'go to' pub/restaurant of choice. Long may they continue.

Astonishingly shocking evening at The Red Lion. For a pub that markets itself as 'family and pet friendly to the extreme' it is anything but. Avoid avoid avoid. Having arrived after an afternoon of unanticipated delays we had a hungry toddler and a hungry dog. Booking this pub on the basis of this very bold statement, front and centre on its website, I expected to be onto a winner. Upon arrival, the children's menu consisted of two meal options neither of which particularly nutritious we opted for a smaller portion of an adult's dish. However, when my son asked for a child's meal because he has less of an appetite, he wasn't allowed and had to order an adult dish. We asked if the kitchen could possibly slice an extra piece of ham or cook off a sausage or chicken breast to tide the pup over (chargable of course) but was told it wouldn't be possible. Another man then came to the table to say the same with frankly rude, patronising comments such as "we expect dog owners to feed their dogs at home" despite having explained the circumstances. We then asked to order another main meal (at full cost) that they could hold back the extras on basically so the pup could have the meat and were refused. His explanation was simply idiotic, we were offering to pay full menu price for either a burger patty or slices of ham! That aside, the tone taken was shocking. And for a pub that professes to be dog friendly to the extreme, I am afraid having a few stale dog biscuits on the bar doesn't quite cut it. The meal we had was mediocre, the service very slow and the most enjoyed part was the sticky toffee pudding and crumble for dessert. Avoid this pub at all costs if you are a family and there are actual, real dog friendly pubs around that even have a little doggy menu...maybe do some market research Red Lion and see what 'dog friendly to the extreme' really means. The man that was serving shouldn't be anywhere near customers, he's single handedly put us off for good and we will be spreading the word.
