Booked for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed !!!We very lucky with our seating and the food was absolutely delicious. All parties agreed the portion size was generous but flavour of the food was by far superior to other restaurants we had visited. The only negative was the wait for the food but I suspect it is due to the popularity of the Restaurant 😊

We recently stumbled upon The Crown and Anchor while traveling around Sussex, and it was a fantastic find! This beautiful, historic pub offers outstanding food, especially the seafood, which was fresh, delicious, and well-prepared. There's a great variety of options on the menu, catering to different tastes. The staff were exceptionally attentive, friendly, and helpful, making our experience even better. Special thanks to our server Izzie, who went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. We'll definitely be returning! Highly recommend!

We ordered from the January special menu which was short but well chosen by them and at a cost of £18 for two courses, very reasonable. I had the smoked mackerel pate on sourdough to start and it was tasty but rather dry. For my main course I had the featherblade and mash - my goodness it was really great. A generous slab of beef with delicious mash and a rich slightly sweet sauce. Definately go there again.

We have been a few times now and liked it very much, however today the service was very slow. Two of us had the January special, but one person had to wait over an hour and a quarter for a main course which was frankly very disappointing. There seemed to be only 2 people on duty in the kitchen as well, with sporadic visits by other staff members. Aside from that it was so cold inside!! Your colleague said that radiators were on and the fire was on, so we moved to a table nearer the kitchen but it didn’t seem to make a lot of difference. When you’re waiting a long time for food as well it doesn’t help. Having said all that, when the food arrived, the feather blade beef was superb!! We’ll come back again I am sure and hopefully things will be back to normal again.

We arrived on a very wet and windy evening. Parking was difficult and after trying and failing to find a space in the pub car park we reversed out and left our car on the road - not clear if we were allowed to park there. Might have been easier in better weather conditions and without two grumpy kids in tow. The atmosphere inside was lovely. Warm, bustling, cosy, and lovely nautical artwork on the walls. We sat next to the kitchen which was strange at first, but interesting and a bit like a chef's table. Kids both had the burgers which seemed fine (though I wonder how many parents like us had to scrape off the green (avocado?) puree from inside the burger). Nice touch, but probably not too popular with the kind of kid who orders a pub burger. Husband had the scallops main which was nice enough. I ordered the cod cheek scampi. Unfortunately this was a bad choice. The coating was so thick, hard and dry, that I couldn't really taste anything inside. Can't imagine anyone would enjoy that dish. I saw other dishes going past that looked great, so I think I was just unlucky with that one. We shared a shortrib starter which was delicious. I'd recommend this place, but give yourself extra time for parking and don't order the cods cheek scampi!

We’ve been eating here on and off for the past 20 years and lunch on Saturday was not one of the best. It’s a beautiful location and a very lovely old building but staff looked frazzled and food was over-cooked, peas missing from the scampi plate, chips side dish also forgotten. Both were fetched when we pointed it out but the dining experience wasn’t as premium as the price. We will keep visiting and hope for better next time.

The cold wind whistles through the gaps making sitting by the windows a freezing experience. The service at the bar was dreadful with disinterested staff more concerned with chatting amongst themselves and putting glasses away than serving customers. The food was mediocre to fair, the dishes I chose were extremely small portions and represented poor value for money. In the summer on a good day sitting outside overlooking the great view I can imagine being fabulous. But indoors and the way the staff were on our visit I wouldn't return.

Food and atmosphere was fantastic. Service however wasn’t great. A warm welcome for my Dad in his wheelchair and first drinks arrived promptly. Firstly what a lovely pub, been here many times over the years and always a favourite, Every other occasion we’ve have been it’s be fabulous! The food is one of the highlights. We came in for lunch, Friday afternoon and sadly left disappointed. We had a few appetisers, bread olives, anchovies, which were fine. For mains we had the smokie, a fish burger and a beef burger. All unfortunately very underwhelming, considering the prices, service was slow although pleasant. They did try and rectify with a free dessert, not really helpful at that point. Working in hospitality myself I understand the pressure of a busy service, and also the climate of the industry with rising prices, hard to get staff etc, sadly I feel all independent business that have character charm and passionate owners working within it will fade away, this is a bad review but will still give 5 stars as, business need support! Hoping to visit again soon.

The food was poor, over cooked fish batter, overly fatty belly pork with little pork in the dish. Poor service, had to chase up dishes in addition and then arrived cold. Rarely checked on for drinks, dishes left for ages without being taken. We’d booked for a special occasion for a birthday in the downstairs area which understandably had to be moved for safety but then put on a table in the snug area with all casual drinkers so lacked any specialness about the occasion. Kipper pate with bones and a fin, shellfish stew (?) with overcooked prawns. No finger bowl. No eye contact from staff, no apology, other than ‘its sunny, everyone is out’ Yes, well we booked before the sun came, and were expecting more. Have been to Dell Quay many times and always good. Yesterday was awful. Arrived 4:15 for late lunch as bookings were full. Starters served reasonably quickly. My French Soup was poor, thin brown water with a few onions and a slice of sourdough bread - not very French. Style over substance I feel. We then waited an hour for our main courses while the Sunday roasts flooded out of the kitchen. By this time I had lost the will to enjoy a 'cornish sole' which I believe was megrim - not a sole in sight in a poor lobster sauce. Again style over substance at £30 a plate. We did not stay for dessert. In fairness the waiting staff did not charge us but alas the damage had been done. A sour note to end our lovely weekend away. I doubt very much we will return. Seems Dell Quay now favour mass servings over the quality they used to serve.

We love the pub, best scenery and setting in the area and generally good service. Unfortunately, on our last two visits the food has been below par. At the weekend I ordered steak (£28) and found it to be tough, perhaps not a great cut of meat as it appeared to be cooked well. The chips were also dry and felt like they had been sat waiting for a while before serving. My wife ordered scallops which were OK, but underwhelming taste and presentation. For the price you would expect better quality, and given the setting it is a shame the food seems to have done downhill. We will visit again, but only for a drink....

Came for a 19th birthday meal. Positives - some lovely dishes inc shellfish stew, Sussex smokie, and prawns starter were all amazing. However a real shame to have one of the party (who is 18) asked for ID (which they didn’t have on them) when trying to order a beer to go with their meal. Perhaps the rules are open to interpretation but it felt unnecessary at a family meal. Service was slow, considering it wasn’t very busy on a Tuesday night. And service charge automatically added to bill. Yes we could dispute it but it adds an awkward moment at the end of what’s supposed to be a celebratory evening. Felt a bit ripped off.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon for a meal with family. I was so impressed with the quality of the food and the range of vegan options on offer. I would really recommend the mezze board and the biscoff cheesecake! The small downside was that the dining area tended to get very noisy, and it was often difficult for us to hear each other over the general noise. *update* We returned for another visit on a Sunday afternoon and the experience was totally different. All the staff were very quiet and not a smile between them. The mezze board has been removed from the menu and replaced with a spiced cauliflower dish (huge mistake), I asked whether the mezze board could be ordered and was met with a firm “no it’s not on the menu.” Coffee was served lukewarm. Plus, when using the toilets, our server rinsed her hands for about 2 seconds with water only, no soap! Disgusting! Won’t be coming back, such a shame.

I do not generally do feedback but so disappointed. Had a long wait for the food. Only Xmas menu available. A frugal plate. Literally 2 small brussel sprouts and a few dried french beans for veg on the plate. Sausages very dry and over cooked. Could have been cooked yesterday and been reheated today. Bits on the plate were cold others bits overdone and dry. Poor.

We visited on a Friday evening. The food was decent, a normal Harvester offering. The service wasn’t that friendly, just perfunctory. The place was fairly clean, the toilets not so. One toilet was blocked due to vomit which was around the cubicle also.
