We came to Stansted Park for the day for the first time and visited the farm shop as part of our time.
The farm shop is in an attractive new building with a spacious layout. There is no doubting that they stock a very wide range of quality produce which is to their credit. The shop includes a butchers and deli.
BUT and it is a huge BUT, the prices are DESPERATELY HIGH across the range of merchandise.
As just one example a standard 370g pot of jam is priced at £4.65. The upmarket Bonne Mamam jams at Waitrose are normally £3.65 and are all currently on offer at £2.85. The Waitrose "Finest" range standard price is £2.40.
We did several other comparisons with similar markups.
Normally we might spend £15-25 at a good farm shop but this time we spent nothing. Interesting that the shop was empty for the time that we were browsing, although they must have a fair sales volume to stay in business!!
With a background in marketing I can't help wonder if more competitve pricing would yield higher sale voumes and higher profits??
So if you are tempted to buy at least bear in mind the "premium-plus-plus" pricing!
We'll comment separately on the rest of the Stansted location.
A small deli with seats inside and out and really enjoyed our food - a New Yorker bagel ( pastrami, sauerkraut and gherkin mayonnaise) which was top notch and a gluten free tuna mayo sandwich made with soft gluten free bread. Good choice of hot and cold drinks. Friendly staff. Would return.
Lovely airy Costa looks great but ongoing food shortages mean lots of customers walk back out and foi into the village about 10 mins away. We stayed for a coffee that tasted good. However as previous reports toilets are poor, today they are closed yet again. Local management needs changing
The best burgers, dirty fries and fried chicken you could ever hope for. Bad and Boujee is the best burger I’ve ever had and the garlic fries are unreal.
Have visited twice recently whilst enjoying the warm sunny autumn weather. A very good selection of food which was delivered to our table very quickly and tasted delicious.
Wonderful food, great atmosphere and very helpful staff. A perfect experience with my family. We had five different starters to share which I have to say were perfect. The main courses were equally delicious, we didn’t think we had room for dessert but just had to give them a try and glad we did. We have eaten a number of times at this pub but have to say this exceeded previous times and can’t wait to go again.
A proper 'local'. Father and son team, and they, and the staff, are always welcoming. As a local, I appreciate their good choice of well prepared ales. Good food and very sunny garden. Occasional bands, weekly folk club and now running a new open-mic on the last Tuesday of the month. Do visit, very near the Cathedral.
One of the best vegan breakfasts I've had recently (and I eat breakfast out most Saturdays). Was a tad expensive for what it was, but I did have extras.
