Good food at a reasonable price. Freshly made and served without too much of a wait. We arrived fairly soon after opening and sat outside in the large raised 'garden' with our three dogs. Dispite a bit of a chill in the air on a sunny Saturday, it soon filled up. I assume this is a very popular pub being right on top of the beach without any local competition. Arrive early or try and book advised.

Having been a regular visitor to Selsey and the lifeboat over many years I was very disappointed by our reception yesterday evening when we were advised that under eighteens were not allowed in certain areas of the pub. My daughter, grandson and I were looking forward to a full meal with wine but were unceremoniously turned out of a not particularly busy pub. Extraordinary when pubs are closing in the current economic climate. We shan’t return.

Been going here for a few years and usually pleased with the food and staff. BUT we popped in this afternoon for drinks and received a very cold - not to say rude reception. The woman who was the sole member of staff was quite put out by having to interrupt her chat with a couple of men at the other side of the bar - we were clearly disturbing her afternoon. When I asked for a cup of tea - she rudely pointed to a sign and said ‘it says it there ‘the kitchen is closed’! It went from bad to worst as she huffed and puffed as I took a few seconds to choose what to order…. Won’t be going back in a hurry!

This place served potato peelings deep fried! They were disgusting and very salty. There's a reason they ditch the skins when peeling. Ordered a BLT with cheese. I got a BLT with no lettuce. When I requested lettuce for myself and my partner who had ordered the same dish, I was told by a member of staff that the side garnish was my lettuce! She did take it to the kitchen and they slapped some lettuce in the ciabatta roll, and sent some half dead lettuce with it in a side dish for my partner. Most was unusable. The dish was expensive for what it was, the bacon was nice but not crispy at all neither was the masses of fat. The bacon portions were generous but not cooked as it should be. I had to cut all the fat off before I could eat it. There was really no browning on the bacon at all. It could have been boiled for lack of colour. Very expensive and not well made. Won't be coming back

After looking forward to a nice belated birthday lunch with a friend, meal was very disappointing, to say the least. Prawn cocktail consisted of frozen tasteless prawns, weird tasting marierose dressing and supermarket cheap brown bread, not even whole meal, topped with margarine tasting spread! Main course for me was Sea Bream on Tagliatelle, which was edible but overcooked. My friend had Salmon which was tasteless and obviously farmed cheap stuff, swimming in a supposed chowder. Didn’t bother with desert after already being shafted for an overpriced tasteless meal. Beer also flat. Wouldn’t have minded the prices if served decent food. Shame we won’t be going back as we are local.

Visited the Lifeboat on a few afternoons last week while on holiday. Lovely cosy pub with a nice garden and friendly staff. Garden has gone downhill since I last visited, used to look so pretty, plants need some serious attention. Menu looked inviting so we booked an evening meal. We had a couple of drinks first and then went in for our meal. We had to order at the bar and pay there and then and find our table despite the owner and chef sitting drinking at the bar. We had to get our own knives and forks and the condiments are all in plastic sachets which for the prices they are charging unacceptable, even Wetherspoon's have salt and pepper pots and bottled sauces. Our meals came to the table within 5 minutes which rang alarm bells. My friend had the Selsey Crab salad which came with new potatoes, coleslaw and salad. The potatoes looked pre cooked and unappetising and the rest of the meal was absolutely freezing so had obviously been pre planted and left in fridge, you couldn't taste anything it was so cold. I had the Dover Sole with chive sauce served with new potatoes, carrots green beans and greens. The vegetables had been pre cooked and pinged, colour taste and texture was awful. Dover sole looked nice but was overcooked. We didn't eat any of our meal and left, extremely dissapointed and a total waste of £40 for 2 main courses.

We used to love this pub , the food and atmosphere were great. What’s happened in a year? It was like a different place altogether. First of all , a lovely sunny day , lots of older couple S out and about …no crab! So onto the prawn salad. Simply put I couldn’t eat it ! The prawns in someone’s bizarre rendition of a Marie Rose sauce , were utterly tasteless and tiny, in fact uniformity of size suggests frozen . . The new potatoes large and uninspiring . There was even an unwanted sliced hard boiled egg plonked on. The coleslaw resembled coleslaw as much as the prawns resembled prawns ..it was full of onion and little else, as for the dressing, one can only hazard a guess. It wasn’t cheap either , huge increase in prices. Sadly huge decrease in the quality of food. Husband had scampi which was a tiny tasteless portion with tinned peas ! A dog poohed on its way out and the ladies at the table next to us had to clear it up themselves ( not their dog i hasten to add), the trodden in evidence was still there when we left …staff knew about it . All-in- all a miserable, expensive mistake . So disappointing for such a good pub to go downhill sp quickly.

Recently visited on a Sunday lunchtime. The kitchen was only open until 3pm and the dining area was fairly full so it's probably best to book ahead. We called ahead to check that the nutroast was suitable for vegans and the staff confirmed that it could be made to a vegan recipe - staff double checked with the chef when we arrived. Food was delicious - the nutroast had a great flavour and texture, and there was a generous portion of roast potatoes. The portion of meat on the pork roast was slightly on the small side, but the giant homemade yorkshire pudding made sure noone was hungry!
