Greeted by the wonderful smell of a wood fire & Barbra Streisand playing gently in the background. Wonderful staff, who carried my bag to my 250 year old room and then served me delicious coffee in the picturesque bar. 10/10 for first impressions

Just no! I was refused a glass of tap water! Having had a meal, I was told, very impolitely, I might add, that I was taking up a table! There were more than 5 tables that I could count that were available in the large garden. Although I was also going to purchase a glass of wine, if I had been able to finish my sentence! I would not return!

Plenty of Better Options in Chichester Pros: The room was decorated ok and was somewhat clean. The location is convenient. Cons: The room was very dusty. As it's an old pub with uncarpeted bedrooms, sound travels incredibly easily, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. The biggest drawback, however, was the manager's attitude. He was exceptionally rude and unwelcoming, making it clear he has no interest in his job or his customers. His demeanor really dampened what was supposed to be an enjoyable trip. The price is exorbitant for what is offered. Even the manager admitted he wouldn't be happy paying the rates he charges. Overall, there are plenty of better places to stay in Chichester. I would only recommend this place if there were literally no other options available. For a more comfortable, cleaner, and better-value stay, consider nearby the Trents or the local Travelodge instead.

Held a celebration of life last week for my dear mother in law . From 1st contact with Nick the owner, we knew we were in safe hands We booked the private area through the back of the pub and had around 60 people from all over the UK . Everyone commented on how beautiful the surroundings were, the quality of the food and the staff who were both attentive and professional. There is an adjacent beer garden for those who want fresh air . An added bonus for us was its dog friendly. We would highly recommend this venue for any celebration .

Absolutely awful manager. I went with my fiance, my sister, her husband and sleeping baby. We got our drinks, spending £8 a pint!! And some crisps and sat in the garden. The manager came out and shouted at us as if we were children because one of us ate the last bite of a slice of pizza we had from greggs. Could have spoken to us so differently and would have had a very different experience. Clearly doesn't know how to speak to people, especially customers spending £30+ on a round of drinks. Don't know how people like that make it into manager positions. Spoke to some of the lovely other staff and although they were discreet, it was clear he's just a rude man that never thinks he's wrong.

Used the Chichester Inn as a venue for my Dad’s wake. Lovely setting with the back bar area closed off for private use and an amazing outside area and parking. I can’t recommend Elliott highly enough for his help and support in making the afternoon such a lovely experience. Elliott adapted the menu to accommodate our wishes, re-arranged the furniture, arranged for flowers for the tables and set up a little memorial space for photos etc. The food was amazing, and plenty of it, a lovely mix of traditional cakes and sandwiches with hot chicken goujons, sausage rolls and chips. Must put a shout out to the chef for the best chocolate brownies I think any of us have ever tasted!

Came from Gillingham in Kent last Saturday for a night out visiting a friend. Only had time for one pint on the way home though which was regrettable as what a lovely charming young lady behind the bar, nice to talk too, big smile. Nice relaxing wind down to a night out but could easily have spent the entire evening here - maybe next time i visit my friend, 16th & 17th December. What started off as a lovely afternoon in a pub we have supported during lockdown, our glasses were removed at 7:45, with no mention of the pub closing despite it being advertised that it shuts at 11:30. When our guest arrived to join us, we noticed the doors were locked and lights were off. When we asked for another drink they said we were closed because I quote “my dinner is ready and the football is on” utterly disgraceful, we will not be returning.

I'm never one to write a review, but after my experience there I feel I have to. We booked a table for 7:30pm, and were seated at one of the tables out front. If you've been you know theres a nice heated garden area in the back, and we asked if once a table was available there if we could be moved and we were told yes. An hour went by and nothing happened. We were getting quite hungry, and so I went inside around 8:30 and asked for a food menu. I went back inside to order, and they told me the kitchen had closed at 8. Why did they give us a food menu then?? It started to get really cold, and we saw groups and groups being moved to the heated garden, so we asked a staff member why we hadn't been moved and he told us "You've got a table, suck it up" I've worked in the catering industry before and If I ever spoke like that to a customer I would be sacked. It was such a horrible atmosphere, and experience I'll never be going back there again.

I visited this pub for a quick drink. I ordered two Bottles of Diet Coke, when they arrived one was already poured and the other was still in the bottle. Once I sat down to enjoy my drink I noticed the bottle look surprisingly small. I only ever drink bottles of Diet Coke, (Tee total) so, I am very aware of what size they come in, 330ml and usually cost between £2.00 - £2.50 per bottle. These bottles were half normal size, more like children’s quantity. Once I finished the drink I approached the young man and asked him how much each bottle was, he said they were £2.20 per bottle, I explained that these were not the regular size (330ml) and he just shrugged and said “I must have ordered the wrong size” then demanded £4.40. Unbelievable. I’m happy paying for the regular Coke, but, this is just a ripoff. I did express my unhappiness at the charge but it fell on deaf eyes. I certainly won’t be returning there.

We ventured into this establishment at about 4.30 on a Saturday afternoon. The place was empty but we got a very warm welcome from the man behind the bar who introduced himself by name (nice touch). The pub itself feels very homely without you feeling as though you are in somebody else's living room. We ordered drinks & food. It's the first time I have ever been asked 'Would you like a half pint or a pint of chips' (another nice touch). The food was very good, The duck was cooked perfect, although the mustard mash potatoes could have been a little warmer, they were cold by the time I had finished my meal. Everybody else in the group enjoyed their meal also. This is a great little pub, (with a live music lounge & lovely beer garden out back). Situated in West Street, along from Chichester Cathedral and opposite to the County Hall of West Sussex (and Edes House), this is a pub I have used on and off for some time for lunchtime drinks and food. It has been sometime however since I last visited and the establishment appears to be in new hands and the front bar (which was the only one we used on this visit) had been redecorated without losing it old world feel.We were only calling to have a drink and lunch with a friend, and the blazing log fire was welcome on what was an overcast day.Barman was very friendly and welcoming and took our orders with a large helping of bonhomie. Both drinks and food was brought out to us speedily. We were only having usual pub fare but it was hot and tasty.Gents toilets on the day we visited were out of action so the 'ladies' facilities became unisex certainly for that day. This pub used to be a bit grotty, although it had a great walled garden. But it has had a makeover and is now, in the words of the TV show 'light, bright and welcoming'! We sat in the front bar and most of our party ate. The barman even 'found' a portion of lasagne for our pregnant friend, even though it wasn't on the menu that day. It's a little bit away from the city centre, but well worth walking up West St past the Cathedral to enjoy a drink here now.

We have been to this restaurant several times and have enjoyed the food and found the prices are no higher then other pubs and other restaurants in the area. The staff are also friendly and on a nice day the garden is a pleasant place to eat your food. The down side is that at weekends weddings and parties take priority although the front bar is open to the public for drinks only. We made the mistake of going there one Saturday night before the Theatre only to find that they had a wedding on and couldn't even offer a limited menu. I visited the Chichester Inn during a short break with a friend. It was a hot Saturday evening and most customers were in the back garden, so it was easy to get a large comfortable table in the atmospheric front bar. It is very traditional in feel with a slightly bohemian character. The pub is well known to drinkers of real ales and has music events and accommodation. It feels like an authentic community pub and the bar staff are friendly and welcoming. We both ordered O'Haigan's sausages with mash, peas and lots of onion gravy. Prices were reasonable. Not the sort of venue I would celebrate a birthday at, but as a place for everyday dining with a good pint it is difficult to fault.

Harveys Sussex Best is the regular ale on offer alongside an ever changing rotation of guest ales, particularly from Dark Star, Langham, Oakham and Burning Sky. The beer quality is off the scale, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the Ale which they are clearly very passionate about.Food is fairly simple, tasty and very reasonably priced. Rear bar doubles as a music room regularly featuring touring artists, particularly Blues, Roots & Folk.Add a stripped back front bar with open fire, a rustic garden and great accommodation, and you have quite simply one of the best ale houses in the land.

I went in here with a friend and although she didn't have a drink I had a pint of Rosie's cider. The barman said £4.65 please and I thought he had made a mistake and asked him to be sure but it was correct. That has to be the most expensive pint in Britain for a place of that kind. The pub was OK although despite being late Friday afternoon there was only one other person in the other bar. At those prices I'm not surprised. A similar beer down the road was under £3.

This two bar Free house at the end of West Street originally dates from 1785. Today it functions as a good town centre pub with a focus on real ale and live music. The high ceilinged front lounge bar is spacious and comfortable with comfy chars around the edge and wooden chairs and tables in the middle. And a log fire gives a distinct smell of wood smoke in winter months. The larger back bar to the rear has additional seating, but doubles as the live music venue on weekends when bands play on the stage area at the back. And then beyond this is a very pleasant outside courtyard garden area which stretches away from the pub some distance, providing several individual seating areas including some heated covered areas with large comfortable settees. There are 5 Ale pumps on each of the bars and the landlord said that he usually has a minimum of three regional Sussex ales on at any time and increases this to five for the busy periods and at the weekend. We chose to visit at the first weekend of the month long Cheltenham festival when the pub was holding its own mini beer festival over the weekend to tie in with the main event. For this the left hand section of the front lounge bar was taken up with an additional ten beers available on silage, mainly from smaller regional brewers from around the country. These included brews from Salopian , Blue Monkey, Redemption and Castle Rock amongst others.A very enjoyable couple of visits were made to the Chi (as it is referred to by locals) , and I would classify this as a should visit pub when looking for a decent pint of Ale when in the City of Chichester.

Having been a fan of this pub for a great many years, I have finally felt compelled to write a review and, sadly, not for the right reasons. Standards have been slipping, and prices increasing, for a while, but last week took the biscuit. We went in for a family drink, on a chilly evening. We were pleased to find a fire burning in the attractive open fireplace in the front bar. However, we found that the heating wasn't on and the fire, made of bits and pieces of found wood, wasn't adequate to warm up the room. The only other two customers kept their coats on, as did we. We were pleased to see a stout on pump - a rarity in Chichester - and so ordered four pints. We were shocked to be told that these were £4.25 each, and passed comment. The barman tried to justify this by saying that it was because they were 6% alcohol. (In fact they're 5.4%). We then found that the stout tasted vinegary and returned them, and sought a refund. A chilly, expensive, unpleasant experience.

Also to note the tables and kitchen are kept quite clean and there was wasn’t much mess on the floor round the crowded tables which is a good sign the place is being looked after well.

I thought that the service was excellent. Our waitress Sophie was outstanding in her grace, attentiveness and delivery. Full marks ! We will definitely go again next time we are in the area.

Very warm welcome, matched by excellent all day breakfast ( for both of us). A very relaxed cafe, with superb cakes, and pasteries to go. A pleasure to eat in this friendly, and very clean cafe, with a very good selection. A nice change to the corporate cafes.
