Harris and Hoole in Chichester

First visited Nov 2023 and loved it here. Coffee is lovely and the surroundings are bright, clean, warm and inviting. Dog friendly too. Always my go to if I’m in the area. Thank you.

We visited here yesterday afternoon. First of all we were left stood there without acknowledgement for several minutes before the lady on the coffee machine bothered to say hello. We ordered a latte and a ‘special’ hot chocolate. The selection of cakes was minimal and tired looking - no savouries except some dodgy looking pots of supermarket soup in the display. If there was an award for the most uncomfortable seats then surely this place would be on the winners podium. They are at awkward heights and the banquet seating solid as a rock. I moved about trying to find a nice place to sit but gave up. The drinks took ages but we were able to take a good look around us while we waited - the place is very grubby. The cutlery watermarked, floor dirty, tables left uncleared, paintwork scuffed. The staff seemed oblivious to the fact that they had customers and were yelling to each other about their personal lives which was disruptive and just plain rude. My husband did not finish his latte as it was watery and bitter and my hot chocolate was not nice at all. The server had put a spoon of chocolate chips in the saucer which just melted against the hot cup into a drippy mess which then dripped off my cup onto my clothes when I picked up the cup! The cakes we ordered were stale. We had wanted a nice hot drink in a relaxing atmosphere but just left feeling annoyed. It was our first venture into this coffee chain and probably our last.

We went into Chichester today for some Xmas shopping and wanted a festive hot chocolate so decided to go into Harris and Hoole. It was 4:40pm and the shop was a total mess with cups and plates strewn all over tables. We spoke to the person serving and requested two hot chocolates only to asked if we would mind having them in take away cups. That should have been the red flag but benefit of the doubt. So looked at food on display and asked for the pigs in blanket wrap. Only to be told that if we could eat it cold that would be good as they had turned the oven off already bearing in mind the shop is open till 5:30 pm. We declined the cold wrap and waited for our hot chocolates in the Hope, that they will give us festive cheer, however they were the most disappointing cold. In fairness, Luke warm hot chocolates I’ve ever had and I would not go back into the store ever again and will now support local companies. Totally disappointed in the service and the hot chocolate

Thought this might be a good escape from the rain and to have a quick lunch. The coffee was delicious and arrived promptly but the toasted sandwiches took an awfully long time. The cheese ones were delicious when they finally arrived but the pastrami looked unappetising. The sausage sandwich was well received. Don’t know why it took so long to do a few toasted sandwiches that were already made up . Will not be going back. One of the members of staff was super helpful but the other not so … much like the reviews below.

Stopped for coffee while waiting for the bus as it was a convenient location. I thought it was independent as I try to support independent businesses but it's products seemed very similar to those elsewhere. However coffee and cake were very nice. The shop is lovely inside and very spacious. However what lets it down is its staff and I note others have had a similar experience. I felt like I was an inconvenience as the 2 young staff barely communicated and were more interested in talking to each other. Hospitality is all about customer care and experience and I love supporting hospitality businesses but I won't come back unless you get better staff

Good coffee in Chichester is hard to find. I had a Latte. Tasty blend but too hot. Too many baristas over heat the milk which causes it to loose it sweetness and velvety texture. Interior is looking tired and too many cups and plates left on empty tables.

We were cat sitting in Chichester for 3 weeks and this was our regular stop for iced coffee. Amazing friendly staff who recognised us and what we ordered. Wish we had one like this we could walk to now we are home. The toasted sandwiches are good as well.

Absolutely tremendous coffee shop in the hear of Chichester. Exceptionally customer service from employees who offer efficient, professional and friendly, going that extra mile to welcome guests, going that extra mile to ensure their visit is memorable for all the right reasons. The coffee is wonderful, the cakes and sandwiches looked very appetising (told tasted great by other customers). You have a lot of choice in Chichester where coffee shops are concerned however this has to be NUMBER ONE

Sometimes coffee maschines play up, we understand. We get a bit annoyed when 'It won't take a moment' takes longer than that. When we order coffee and sandwiches, the idea is we want to eat the sandwich with the coffee. When the coffee finishes and no sandwich in sight yet, when the explanation is ' food is taking longer today' we don't like it. It is only a cheese tostie! How can it take long to toast it! When it arrives, it is a lonesome one! No garnish, no salad , no anything to accompany it. And it costs almost £5! Wifi is a concern too . It asks for your birthday, address, tel number, address: you need to create an account to sit there with lukewarm coffee and toastie while the staff calls out numbers and names of the customers. I am not going there again.

Slightly baffled on entering at about 3.40pm this Saturday afternoon to be told it was closing in 10 minutes. This was then corrected to 4.30pm so we stayed for some rather superior peppermint tea (albeit served in take-away paper cups) and a muffin for my daughter. Some other pastries and chocolate chip cookies in evidence but no sandwiches.

Me and my family popped for hot drink and we order the seasonal coffee x2 and breakfast tea and we enjoyed the drink The prices were good for the drinks We would highly recommend harris and hoole

Ordered coffees at the counter in this cafe. Had to collect them when name called. OK so far. Unfortunately the order was incorrect and I told the server. However, the server argued that she was right. My friend confirmed what I had said, but she continued to argue aggressively. Mistakes are understandable, but rudeness to customers is not acceptable. I will not visit this coffee shop again. No shortage of alternatives in Chichester.
