I brought my daughter in today for lunch as a treat, as she's never been to zizzis before.
We were sat quickly and our waitress Andrea took our order.
I was a little indecisive on what to choose and Andrea made a suggestion for the pizza choice. Let's say she wasn't lying when she said it was really good. I enjoyed every bite. The garlic bread with caramelised onion which she also recommended was truly delicious too.
She aslo bought over some crayons and a worksheet for my daughter which she really liked, it filled the gap before our meal arrived. Really impressed by the whole service, Even my daughter commented on how friendly and kind our waitress was.
It's clear she works very hard to provide a great service.
We will definitely return!!
Beautiful pub, lovely welcoming staff, great pint of cider, but the star is the food. I can't speak for the whole menu, but if the burgers my other half and I had were any indication it's worth trying the rest of the menu...
I'm picky about my burgers. Or. Well, everything really. Working in hospitality sort of gives you the burden of knowledge. Or maybe it just makes you a judgemental tosser. Six of one.
The Carnarvon is a pretty pub, nicely decorated and kept in a good state - nothing falling to bits, nice and clean; through to the toilet. Staff in the middle of line cleaning a couple of the hand pull lines as we came in - while admittedly meaning that they had to deny me a pint of Proper Job, indicates they care and are attentive to beer care. Big tick in an important box for me. Aspalls instead; nice choice of cider, well kept, lovely pint. Staff seemed to be enjoying the work, they were nice to chat with and helpful. Attentive but not pushy. Perfecto.
Based on all of that, and a quick glance at the reception, (which was where the handsome dark wooden panelling started in the building...) I'm going to make an educated assumption and give full marks for the rooms too, though we only ducked in for lunch, just feels unfair to ding on that while giving a nice review. I'm picky but I'm not petty.
Back to the burger though. That was easily the best burger I've had in a long while, decidedly up there in terms of best burger I've ever had and my other half had essentially the same response, we both utterly wolfed it down. Absolutely deserved compliments to the chef, just outstanding.
Very enjoyable visit. If that's the standard of everything but particularly that damn burger, we'll be back even though it's a bit of a trek across from Devizes.

I had a cheese and ham toastie, which was tasty. They had 6 members of staff on what service took a long time. Being in the hospital it's always so busy. The thing that let it down the most was that nearly every table was dirty with rubbish and cups on it. I cleared a table myself to be able to sit with my father and enjoy our coffee

Visited here a few times for drinks and the atmosphere has always been good.
Great selection of spirits available, including lots of gins/rums.
There is occasionally live music on a Friday or Saturday night, or they tend to show the sport of a major tournament is on - most recently the rugby! (we won't talk about that game...)
Prices are what you'd expect from most pubs, so not overly expensive/cheap.
There is an additional area upstairs that you can request to book of you're having a work event or just a large group of you turning up. Have never had a problem here.
If the drinks prices mean you can't spend your whole evening here, there's always the Wetherspoons next door to get a few cheap rounds in.

Lovely little underrated bar!! Really friendly staff, Ben stood out to me was so nice and chatty. 10/10 would recommend to anyone bored with the naff bars in Basingstoke!!

Been going there a lot. Great staff. The food is always piping hot. Kebabs and burgers etc are all excellent as is the quality of the meat. I'd recommend the 'normal mix' special kebab.
Had a delicious Sunday roast sat outside in the lovely sun. Great, welcoming service from a lady who said she’d just taken over the pub and this was their first ever Sunday lunch service! We thoroughly enjoyed. The beef was delicious, with plenty of veg, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire, stuffing, roasties. Highly recommended and wish the wonderful lady a successful future at the White Hart Inn
