We travel this road nearly every month to see our son in the Surrey Hills. My wife and I always wanted to stop at the Star Inn but never had the chance. Since her passing away my family and I deliberately made time to stop as a homage to her.
Wonderful meal, wonderful venue. My wife would have loved it. Definitely to be repeated.
Leanne our server was the epitome of customer service, nothing was too much trouble for her.
Outstanding all around!!
Lovely interior, the staff were very friendly and attentive. We went for the fish finger sandwich which was a disappointment. It was basically birds eye frozen fish fingers in Warburtons "farmhouse" bread for £10.45 which I did not feel was worth the cost of the meal. I was expecting home-made fish gougons with local bakery bread. Reading other reviews, I think it's recommended to go for the Thai option instead.
Had Sunday roast here today and it was the best roast we have had in a long time. And we go out most Sundays! My husband had the trio of roast (pork, chicken and beef) and I had the roast chicken. Meat was tender, plenty of gravy, proper crispy roast potatoes and 5 different veg. Really good! Pudding was toffee and treacle sponge with custard (to share I hasten to add) We took the Labradors in there and they were welcomed and brought a bowl of water too. Special mention for Izzy and all the lovely waitresses. Thank you for an awesome meal.
We had a booking as part of a cycle tour we had planned but, in chasing up on an unanswered question about our bikes, we were advised that they would probably be closed on our booking date for refurbishments - seemingly our responsibility to find out about this and, to enact the cancellation process?!
This pubs a local in my area and usually my go to when catching up with friends. Really friendly lady that works behind the bar, very welcoming. Very dog friendly, lovely garden, amaxing food... Try the southern fried chicken.
Our party of six visited this branch during the dinner service without a prior reservation.
So we went in, saw empty tables, and thought, "Great!" But then the staff said it'd be a 30-minute wait, which was a total shock.
I checked those empty tables for reservation signs and asked the staff if the wait was really that long. He said yes, even though I pointed out the empty tables! As we left, a group of three walked in, no reservation, and they got seated right away. We were so confused and annoyed.
Excellent food and service in this cosy place. Nice, interesting menu. Opted for the Wellington Royale for a lovely bit of fizz to start the evening before scallops, potpie and chocolate tart. Thanks for a lovely evening!
Cosy, tidy and clean are excellent starts for the Old House. Menus is quite limited and my burger was very wet, just dripping oil which makes for messy eating. Service was good, could have been more friendly but remember this isn't a restaurant. I would eat here again.

Take away order, took around 45-50 mins to be ready for pick up. Mushroom rice 3 stars - a little bland, Peshwari Naan 3 stars - had better, Keema Naan 4 stars, Shashlik 5 stars - succulent chicken pieces very tasty, Korai Lamb also 5 stars - a decent amount of tender lamb (differs from some of the other reviews). Both mains were good quality and did not include the usual dump of food colouring that blights other takeaways and restaurants.
It is also worth noting the really competitive prices here, definitely worth a visit.
Can't understand some of the one star reviews.
