The Swan Inn in Basingstoke and Deane

We had a drink in here at lunch time Saturday 24th Feb, and then we booked for dinner that night. Alex and Matthew looked after us and very well I might add.

We had a wonderful lunch to celebrate a big family birthday, food was well presented and delicious. All staff were organised ,friendly, helpful and attentive. Thank you for making our celebration so special

Although we arrived late, and the kitchen was closed, one of the owners and the staff made every effort to accommodate us. The food was excellent (chicken wings and mac and cheese) and the friendliness of the staff was outstanding. Truly a place where we came in as strangers and felt we left as friends. Definitely a place we will visit again when in the area. Additionally, the restaurant is extremely cozy and gorgeous.

Popped in for the Sunday lunch. Greeted at the door and shown to a table immediately. I had the Roast chicken and the wife had Salmon. Absolutely lovely. Hot and plentiful just as we had hoped for in a charming location Strongly recommend.

This old coaching in appears to have had a change of management since our last visit ,new limited menu with some of our favourite dishes gone to be replaced by burgers a number of items were not available .The new staff seemed shocked when I asked for the wine list and produced a scruffy piece of paper which appeared to be the only copy. Service was slow although to be fair it was a Saturday night. We opted for the traditional items of steak ,fish& chips and sausages as mainly because the more interesting items were "sold out" The fish (hake) was mostly batter ,the sausages VERY peppery and the steak so tough it was sent back and the cost refunded (We were not the only quests to complain about the steak).So overall a pretty average night out . hopefully it will improve over the summer

Arrived on time for a lunch with family There were 6 of us and we had a booking. The restaurant was extremely cold. We were seated in a part of the restaurant that was so cold, we asked to move to a warmer part. They happily moved us round to anarea where there was a fire. However, that was the only heat in a big room and it was still cold. We waited a long time for our food, in fact two hours for just a main course. when the food finally came it was cold. The tanglefoot pie was cold, the plates were cold, my sausages and mash was cold. They did heat up the gravy as that too was cold. Eventually they gave us the desert menus but after half an hour and no order being taken we paid and left. To summarise: Restaurant cold, poor service, cold food, menu choice not good and expensive for what you get. We wont be visiting again.

I’ve tried so hard to like this place. It’s in a great setting and walking distance for us, but I just can’t get away from how awful the food is and how little the staff seem to care. First time, I had beef bourguignon which resembles a poor version of my Grannies beef stew - not a classic red wine infused dish from Burgundy. Second I played safe with a cheeseburger which was burnt. On our final visit I ordered the vegan burger which was burnt around the outside and, oddly, a sort of pale grey in the middle. On this occasion I mentioned the poor quality of the food to the restaurant manager, indicating I wasn’t too keen to pay full price, to which he just said “yeah that’s just personal preference so, full price”. Personal preference…?? Needless to say we haven’t been back since. Shame because the place has loads of potential, but unfortunately, also loads of awful food.

Met some friends here for lunch. A very welcoming atmosphere, an interesting and well-priced menu and good staff. Our food was very good and we were looked after brilliantly by Imogen who was lovely, knowledgable and efficient! We will certainly return!

Family reunion meal, some of the party were delayed and the staff stayed on to sort us out, made an amazing meal. The meal was our only time together in months as one of the family live overseas, so the staff, service and food made the get together perfect. Thank you so much, especially around Christmas time when I know the place is super busy! We will be back soon! Also very dog friendly, which was fab!

We came here on a busy Friday evening without a booking, but got a table in a nice room almost to ourselves. We had some very tired children with us causing a bit of a hassle. But the staff were remarkably understanding and patient and made the children feel welcome. The menu is quite extensive and we each had some lovely meals, served with a smile. I am grateful for the marvellous service and we will surely come back.

There is so much character and ambience here. Really cosy and intimate. The owners and staff are all very welcoming and friendly. Great range of Badger beers. Luckily, this is also my "local". I look forward to the new year when all the "once a year" Xmas customers have stopped causing problems and are gone for another 12 months. 🙄

Visited many years ago and it was terrible, vowed never to go back. However, on a recommendation we had Sunday lunch and it couldn’t have been more different. Food was really nice, staff were friendly and efficient and the setting was really well decorated. A charming atmosphere. The young man who served us, Will, deserves a mention. He was polite, friendly and efficient, a real asset to the place. Also, the owner, who let me sample his real ales, in jolly and friendly manner. We plan to go back in the new year. Well done, very enjoyable.

Lovely old pub with more modern additions, easy to find, easy to park. We had Sunday lunch, booked for 7. The pub was warm, busy and welcoming and decorated for Christmas. Our table was in the old part of the pub, near the wood-burning stove. Staff were friendly. Plenty of good tasty food. We all had a really good time and I have booked again.

Couldn’t comment on the food never made it through the door!!!!!! Booked a table over the phone for 11.30 day before . Turn up lights are on nobody home . There was other family’s who had booked too for that time . All waiting outside the weather was freezing. So all left Total let down . Rang them later there was no real apology said sorry all the staff arrived at 12. Ended up going to a lovely pub 5 mins down the road . Warm and and welcoming fantastic food spent all day there

On the death of my mother we booked this venue for the Wake, we were a little apprehsive as the staff did says they had not done this type of get together before but we need not have been. The room used was so welcoming with open fire, tea and coffee facilities and a great spread of sandwiches, sausages rolls, dips and fresh cooked chips. The welcome from the staff was as warm and compassionate as the room, especially from the lady in charge, I'm sorry I didn't get her name. They even did a box of the left over food, so thoughtful as the chef and kitchen staff provided a very good selection. We would like the thank all the staff for all they did we will certainly be back when in the area and will recommend this venue to friends and family. Thank you so much Rosemary

Was meeting a friend for a long overdue catch up, and had always met up here several years ago. Still a lovely pub, service was a little slow but the food was good. Unfortunately the lunch was ruined by no one asking us if we wanted a dessert for at least 25 minutes after they had cleared our mains, and when we asked no one came back to take the order?? making us feel unwelcome and rushed to leave. Shame, as it ruined a lovely catch up.

The Swan has recently been taken over by new people, you never know how that will go.... Luckily they are great. Very friendly and welcoming. Even thanking people for their business when they leave, a rarity these days. The pub is lovely and cosy with a great choice of drinks including many Badger ales on draught and in bottles. The other think I like is that there are no TVs and the music is subdued. You are not suffering from bleeding ears from over loud inappropriate noise. We are very lucky to have The Swan as our "local" pub.

A meet up with family, no of us had been in this pub before. First impression was very good, outside was difficult to make a comment as it was dark, but if the outside was as good as the inside it must be amazing. A very well presented pub/restaurant. Bright clean and well decorated. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Food was good portions and a fair price. Would we visit again...yes we will. Amazing friendly atmosphere with food to match!!! The perfect place for dining and drinks, and i would definitely recommend if you are wanting top tier service. i will be coming back again very soon!

We had a road accident outside of The Swan Inn and the staff could not have been any more helpful. They went over and above to care for us while waiting for the emergency services to arrive, including helping with luggage and providing food which was awesome! Thank you all very much!

Just love this Inn everyone so friendly and nothing too much for the staff from just having a coffee or a drink with friends plus a bite to eat if wanted.

The food was good and the dessert was superb. Friendy table service by the ladies serving. Minus two stars for the rather patronising attitude of the gent taking bookings as you went in and also serving behind the bar who I assumed was the owner or manager or acted as if he was. I've been in and out of here since 1978 and it's a while since I've been in, but I won't be going back until he moves on. I'd rather give my money and custom to a place where I am not spoken down to.

Went on a Sunday for a roast and was very happy with the roast. I got the triple roast with everything which was very well priced. The only little thing about the roast was the chicken was a little dry. We also decided to try the special cookie dough. It was very tasty but not cookie dough as it was overcooked and basically more of a biscuit. Overall great service, lovely place and would still probably go back.
