Had a birthday meal here and had the most wonderful meal. Absolutely faultless service, impressive menu choices and the food was incredible. Can totally see why it was so busy on a Tuesday! Will definitely come back soon. The portion sizes were very generous and the attention to detail was amazing. The crab on toast was stand out dish but the others including incredible treacle tart came close second!

The Wellington Arms achieves what many aspire to, but don't get close actually delivering. Quality, well cooked but not overly fussy food. Service is friendly but professional (and they fitted us in at the last moment on a busy Saturday after GWR cancelled all trains into London.)

Came here on a recommendation. Soon realised this place has more to it than meets the eye. Interesting dishes, all elevated by home-grown vegetables and herbs. We started with a couple of superbly prepared scallops with a lovely romesco sauce. Continued with some whole plaice which was melt in the mouth. Great ambience, charming building, friendly staff and to top it all off the Mrs loved it, which given it was our 10th wedding anniversary was something of a relief.

A very nice place. And the service was very nice and friendly. But for £70 a head it was expensive to put it mildly. Because the menu was good albeit simple but the food was not only FAR TOO HOT (burnt one’s mouth) but SO BLAND! Everything needed loads of seasoning. Frankly for the price it should have been a lot more memorable for the right reasons.

Odd that it does not have a rating for the food ?! Anyway , I’m going 4 /5 for food . Don’t get me wrong , it was tasty , just not much of it . If you’re really hungry , you might need to stop on the way home ..and for the money , that makes it not great value … as it was not exceptional to justify the price … lovely but not enough to offset the small portion sizes . No beers on tap either … but a good selection of bottled ciders and beers , but again , the price goes up because of that . £125 for lunch for 4 , with a couple of bottles of beer .. £55 a head ? Not really worth going back and repeating to be honest . Staff were lovely and friendly . Nice gardens and the grow a lot of their own veg so whatever is in season is on the menu , and you could tell . It’s ok … that’s about it :)

Now operating as The Welli' Deli offering a great range of pre prepared meals, home made soups, preserves, sauces, fab cakes, quiches not to mention sourdough bread and just the best jam doughnuts. Also available are interesting vegetables and salads. They have good COVID safety measures in place. Feel safe and remember to support our local suppliers and restaurants. Post COVID update, August 23, things are pretty much back to the good old days. The deli remains in operation, slightly scaled back, but still with many COVID favourites. The restaurant is running at pretty much full capacity and with the great menus and service we appreciate. Frequent changes mean there's usually something you have not seen for a long time if ever. Currently go for the stuffed courgette flowers and the bed summer pudding I have ever had. There's always just enough choice for vegetarians, and plenty for meat eaters. June 24 So encouraging to see this restaurant is going flat out despite the best efforts of HMG to scupper us all, the full pre COVID attention to detail continues. The best ingredients prepared to show their quality. Went for breakfast, had the best one we have ever enjoyed. Full English is as you would want, crispy bacon, two eggs, mushrooms, tomato, and sausage, prepare your own toast with their sourdough bread and cover in home made marmalade. Looking for reasons to go again. Still one of the best restaurants and has special takeaway dishes, especially the double cooked cheese souffle with spinach

AMAZING little gem - for food and ambience.. wow!! Owners are Simon and Jason, and ALL of the staff were extremely friendly, professional and go above & beyond. This is one of the nicest places around Berkshire/Hampshire, it’s a shame I only just found it!! Simon’s mum Judy knits handmade animals, they’re lovely! And unique - I’ve just bought a little bird for my son. Also Jason & Simon’s homemade tomato ketchup is by far the YUMMIEST IVE EVER TRIED!! They grow all their own herbs, veg, and have their own animals. The garden is STUNNING! It’s very quaint, like the “secret garden”, hidden from the main road by loads of bushes/greenery (for privacy). I honestly cannot recommend this pub/restaurant enough, after having just eaten one of the yummiest meals I’ve ever had. TRUE QUALITY. WORTH EVERY PENNY :) You MUST try - the service was amazing and I can’t wait to go again.

A gastronomic pub with luxury accommodation. Beautiful gardens with outdoor seating and an abundance of fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables grown for use in their kitchen. This was our third visit and we have never been disappointed. The room (barn) was spotlessly clean, luxurious toiletries provided and lovely soft fluffy towels and bathrobes. The bed was huge, with crisp fresh linen and pillows in abundance. Comfortable chairs and a little table were perfect as we relaxed in our lovely surroundings. Fresh coffee, home cooked biscuits and fresh milk in the fridge were complementary. The food was delicious as ever and plentiful, breakfast is freshly cooked to order and you have a toaster on your table so you can make your own toast as and when you want it. No more cold or soggy toast. I can’t rate this place highly enough. If you like excellent quality food, luxury accommodation and lovely attentive staff then this is the place for you.

Went here today for the first time for lunch on my husband's birthday. The location and gardens are stunning. The staff are friendly, charming and efficient and the food to die for. I had the crispy stuffed courgette flowers. The filling was rich and creamy with just the right amount of nutmeg while the batter was perfect. My husband had the pasta with smoked chicken etc. He declared it to be delicious. The large piece of Plaice with tender broad beans, capers in brown butter was perfectly cooked and the Arabian spiced lamb shank chosen by my husband was sublime. After those courses we wondered if the desserts might be a step too far but we risked it. So glad we did. Homemade treacle tart and ice cream for him while I had the best trifle ive ever eaten. Elderflower jelly, raspberry, divine custard etc. Perfect. The prices though not cheap were perfectly in line with the quality, quantity and freshness of the food. This was our first time here but certainly not our last. Can't wait to come back.

The food, atmosphere, service were all superb and would have got 5 out of 5 without a second thought. What let the evening down was the menu. we visited on one of the hottest evenings of the year in June, yet the menu looked more like a winter or Autumnal menu. There were 2 pies with mash on the menu out of 8 options! No salads, or main fish courses. The same was true for the deserts - spotted dick, treacle sponge etc... the one summer pudding on the menu - mixed berries with meringue which sounded amazing had sold out. The menu had been specially printed on the day, so I'm really confused, when you know it's going to be hot - why not add more summer items? new potatoes - a couple of salads etc... It was a real shame as we'd been looking forward to visiting for such a long time.

Visited the Wellington Arms after quite a while only to be very disappointed. First of all the upsell on drinks was very pushy. The might indeed pride themselves on the qualilty of the produce they use but the quantity of actual food on the plate for the price they charge is very poor. I had the cottage pie. There was literally a tablespoon of sauce at the bottom with a countable number of pieces of meat and finely chopped carrots, with an inch of mash pottoes on top. Really. And would it really kill them to add a few srtips of carrot, broccoli or another green to the plate for which they are charging £26 or so??? Why have we got to pay extra for veg? For a local place to me, disappointed. Will not be going back there again.

My wife booked us a table for my birthday and had called the restaurant to explain that we were both vegetarian and weren't too keen to the presented with vegetable lasagne/pasta as we see this as 'fast food for veggies'. She was re-assured - after a good and involving conversation - that every thing would be suited to our requirements. We needn't have worried; we were met, greeted and shown to our table and immediatley Simon (one of the owners) came to our table, introduced himself and made it very clear that he would ensure that we were totally satisfied with our evening! The service was quick, friendly, attentive and informative and the food (and drinks) was utterly sublime... Adaptabilty certainly stood out - I asked for a French75 and although it was confessed that they didn't list this we were presented with 2 perfectly prepared and delicious glasses of my favourite cocktail! The menu was fully explained to us - from a vegetarian prespective - and minor tweaks were made to suit our needs that meant we had a five course meal of such textures, flavours, colours and variety, mainly from locally sourced ingredients, that we were bowled over. This really was a special evening out made even more so by the whole team at the Wellie. Thoroughly recommended.

I don't know which Wellington Arms Olivia Mann reviewed below, but I can guarantee it wasn't this charming place in a beautiful part of Baughurst in Hampshire. We've been coming here to eat for years, with the latest on Saturday 10th Feb for a birthday breakfast. The fresh, locally produced food was delicious - though I'd expect nothing less given their lunches and dinners are unfailingly good. Trust me when I say the staff don't have time to gossip as Olivia suggests. They're too busy, too attentive and too intent on providing great service, led by Simon and Sheila's exemplary front-of-house example. The Wellington Arms (this one, at least) is a gem. And if Olivia's misplaced review puts you off, it's your loss. But hey, it frees up a table for me. Every cloud....

Five star hospitality without the pomp. This little gem of a pub/restaurant with its four beautifully appointed bedrooms seems to get it right on every front. Attractive en-suites and homely bar/restaurant serving unpretentious but wholesome and delicious food. From the crispy bacon devils on horseback nibbles, the cheese soufflé smothered in a mountain of Parmesan, the perfectly presented salmon followed by puddings to die for. A gastronomical delight. The only downside was that, after a luxurious nights sleep, I felt that to indulge in the full English would have been a step too far, so chose to go for a lighter, but just as fresh and wholesome, lighter option. Jason and Simon aided by Sheila, do have that magical touch of getting it right.

A picturesque dinner outing place in a rural Hampshire area, small and cute, and charming for sure with an excellent (slightly overpriced though) kitchen. Because the restaurant is tiny it lacks a bit of privacy. I took away one star because I booked an anniversary dinner with my Partner, which I mentioned during booking but no special setting was arranged even in smallest - which would be a nice gesture. On top of that we got a small table just by the bar that disallowed us any privacy. One would expect a couple’s anniversary to receive a more romantic treatment, just as a nice gesture.

Outstanding in every way. A wonderful experience for all of the senses. The quality of ingredients/food/cheffing for our evening meal courses (and breakfast) was just superb and the wines we tried were absolutely gorgeous. The location is tranquil/beautiful and the wonderful, listed, main building oozes character and a warm, welcoming charm which essentially continues and evolves into a very cosy/homely 'old pub' ambience within but of a high quality. The main building (and the lovely accommodation buildings, plants, beds and grounds) are all beautifully maintained and presented (which is an extra effort and expense at this time of year) and many establishments don't bother sadly but the Wellington Arms do, which speaks volumes about their professionalism and care about the whole 'experience' there for visitors and our stay was a really refreshing 'joy', start to finish. The Wellington Arms is a genuine 'gem' and a really great find. It is head and shoulders above most other establishments of its type. Everything oozed real quality, care and attention to detail but without being pretentious. 'Quietly wonderful'. It all spoke for itself eloquently and beautifully. The perfect balance in my humble opinion. My only regret is that we didn't stay 2 nights. We shall be back.

I realise that I’ve been to The Welli three times and have never left a review – shame on me! This is one of the best, well organised, well-run gastro pubs in the UK and deserves every accolade it receives. The staff are gracious, warm and welcoming from the word go to the very end and you could, on that basis alone, only want to come back; the food is well thought out with something for everyone and especially game in season; the veg grows yards from the door and is un-mucked-about and left to sing for itself; the wine list used to be stupendous but unfortunately, Covid meant they had to sell their stocks to keep going; so now it is shortened but well-formed. Saying that, they only charged us £20 for corkage which was very generous. We hope to continue going there and that they continue to provide excellence as the norm. Many thanks…… Highly recommended.

Our first visit. We cannot praise & thank The Wellie highly enough. What a find! Peacefully rural on a quiet road to the south of Baughurst. A classic, pretty country pub, now converted to an excellent restaurant, with three rooms. What strikes you first is how immaculate The Wellie is, inside and out. The large garden is a delight. Masses of dahlias and all manner of bushes and plants. Birds, birds and more birds. Do check out the vegetable garden beyond the rear car park. You then walk inside to the warmest of relaxed welcomes from the owners, Simon and Jason, and manager, Sheila, and their lovely young helpers. Nothing is too much trouble. The first thing you’ll spot is the array of fruit, veg & salad for sale by the pub bar – the Wellie Deli. Along with home made jams, chutneys, quiches, etc. I then spotted the two hand pumps! Longdog Golden Poacher & Basingstoke Pride. The seating inside is for diners - every session is a sell out! But I was very happy to sup several excellent pints of well kept draught Basingstoke Pride in the garden – until I discovered their Negronis! Truly the best this side of Kwant (Piccadilly). We’d opted for the room in the pub: the Apartment. Two rooms on the first floor, knocked through. Enormous comfy bed, large rainfall shower, sofa, mini bar – two TVs! Free milk & homemade shortbread. One of the discoveries we made here is the fabulous tea they serve from Prince & Sons. As you can tell by now, we were very happy with our first stay at The Wellie… and then we went down for dinner! A truly exceptional menu from Jason’s kitchen, which changes each evening. Highlights were the scallops wrapped in pancetta, the pollack, the lamb pot pie, the twice baked cheese souffle, the NY cheesecake, the rhubarb ice cream, the treacle tart... All so fresh, tasty, and mainly from their garden. What we loved most was it was relaxed but fine dining without the tiny portions. The Full English breakfast the next morning was equally tasty. All in all, we did not want to go home! Thank you Simon, Jason & Sheila. We will be back, soon.

Beautifully appointed with stunning furniture, fabulous bed and just had everything you could need. Really high end products and delightful little touches. We had dinner in the restaurant and when we went up to our room after dinner the curtains had been drawn, radio playing softly, bed turned down and pillows fluffed. Tea tray cleaned and milk in the fridge replaced… such a lovely touch. Dinner was delightful. It was evidently locally sourced and seasonal. Good value and offered something for everyone. I have such a soft spot for The Welly! We discovered it by chance years ago after getting a bit lost during a weekend drive and walked in with the hope they could serve us some lunch. The owner Simon was so obliging and charming and did us fish and chips and ice cream even though they were busy. We’ve been back many times over the years and it never disappoints. Food is always delicious and appetising without being fussy. We recently visited for dinner at the weekend. I had a very generous piece of fresh Cornish cod, my husband had a perfectly cooked steak. Wine was excellent and a fair price. Service is friendly without being ott. It’s a well-heeled crowd, smartly dressed but a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. I love the historic feeling without it feeling old-fashioned or twee. There’s a beautiful garden and small holding if the weathers good. They also do take away pies, bread and marmalade. They have very nice rooms too if you wanted to stay. Thanks Simon and team for a lovely evening.

We recently booked in for dinner, bed and breakfast. We have been for dinner before but not stayed overnight. Our room (the Cart House) was fabulous. Comfortable, spacious, clean, quiet (with the occasional sound of very sweet baby lambs in the neighbouring field) and calming which was perfect after the somewhat stressful day we had had before we arrived. On arrival Simon immediately made us feel welcome and relaxed. Indeed all the Welli Team are highly professional and welcoming. As always the food was superb. Thank you Jason and all in the kitchen. The French Toast at breakfast was heaven. The location is idyllic and the gardens picture perfect. We will definitely return as soon as we can think of another good excuse to do so!

Absolutely fantastic! Stayed overnight with my partner and from the moment we entered we were greeted with a smile and made to feel very welcome. We stayed in the apartment room and it was immaculate (also the comfiest bed ever!) Well stocked mini bar, toiletries provided, beautiful decor and clearly no expenses spared. Dinner and breakfast were both phenomenal along with the service. Thank you Simon and Jason for a perfect stay.

Checked the website which said breakfast was available to non residents. Decided to pop in with my husband on our anniversary for a treat. Staff looked at us like asking for breakfast was crazy. Left us waiting for ages then came back to say they were busy. There was no-one there besides one couple who had just arrived so we were baffled. They were rude and condescending. Just a really horrible experience when we were trying to do something as a treat. Maybe starting that booking= no service on the website would be an idea and also just generally being a bit nicer. We felt like dirt on someone's shoe.
