It's a Wetherspoons and not one of the unique ones in a quirky building. Food is fine, drinks are fine pricing is great, typical thing.

Worst spoons experience I've ever had. Place is appallingly understaffed, and the ones that are there either don't care, or aren't trained properly. Service was awful, drinks took forever to come despite it only being 2 drinks (one canned and one draught drink). It took so long in fact, we were served our meals before drinks which should never happen, and i say that as someone who works in catering. I had to go up to the bar and ask a member of staff for our drinks to be served as even after waiting further after receiving our food they just weren't coming. We were also served our meals with previous customers dirty plates/glasses still on our table... This place just isn't functioning, they clearly need to train their front-of-house staff and also hire more as the service is just embarrassing. Food was great though, which is a shame because it was really dragged down by the appalling service. Will be going to other venues when I am next in Basingstoke.

This is a big Wetherspoon pub, fairly modern interior that's a little bland, the kind of opposite to the Maidenhead Inn at the other end of town. It has a decent outside seating area, and can be busy at all times, which can stretch the bar staff and lead to long waiting times for a drink. However- the ale range is pretty good, the food is too, and the staff are a friendly bunch!

Very disappointed - the manger was rude and refused to swap 6 onion rings for an extra egg as we didn’t like them, our food came almost cold and had part the meal missing when we made them aware of this it took us speaking to 3 members of staff before having this resolved- half the beers had run out when we arrived at 1pm and heard them say to top up a Stella with another lager unsure if this is even allowed? Staff were rude, impatient snappy and uninterested. It was dirty. On a bright note Lou was a diamond! He was helpful start to finish made sure the children had colouring paper once we asked very quickly and sorted our missing food without any problems.. Lou deserves a raise thank you for making a crappy meal that little bit brighter.

Awful experience. Visited with friends for a meal and got served at the bar by what seemed like new bar staff (shortish young boy with chewed up fingernails) looked like he’d been out all night from the bags under his eyes, and couldn’t care less. Tables were dirty and carpet smelt. Does this place have cleaners?! Also, get some decent staff. The boy that served us seemed uninterested, and could do with some manners in serving people instead of going ‘what do you want’

However I felt some of the staff needed to move a little quicker as I had to go looking for my app ordered drinks after 15 minutes and they weren't that busy. James, however cleaned our table and bought food. He was a nice pleasant person who made me feel that our visit there was worth it after all.

I love Wetherspoon however this location has the worst customer service. My coworker, my son and myself went there , the guy over the bar look at us and walked away ( we are black) . I stood for about five minutes waiting and I got frustrated and had to literally call for some assistance; which they reluctantly came. The table was dirty which took another 5 minutes to get someone to clean it.I saw other customers came in after us ( white) and they ran to their attention. The waiter over charged me and was rudely explaning it. Food came VERY COLD . WORST location ...

Buenos precios. Siempre que voy a UK me gusta ir a comer o beber a un wether spoon. Si buscas precios bajos en comida es recomendable venir aquí. Si buscas calidad...no vengas.

Now this is a nice spoons. The usual wood element is definitely there but with so much glass that lets in an amazing amount of natural light, mix that with some bright colours behind the bar it is a feast for the eyes. The staff were friendly and efficient, constantly on the move. There was quite a lot of seating inside but still with space to move around but the outdoor seating is the charm: quite a lot under the circular courtyard entrance with lots of space plus more seating out in the open down the side of the pub. There is also a LOT of green space here and I have no idea how it's managed so check before you lie back and enjoy. The Guinness was excellent.

The worst weatherspoons I have ever been to. I have visited many weatherspoons throughout the UK and this has to be the worst. To the manager who couldn’t comprehend that if you buy chicken pre-cooked, it still poses a risk of food poisoning and therefore should not be cold and pink/bleeding upon eating. Meat is meat, pre-cooked or not, it should be heated all the way through despite how you purchase the product.

It was a busy lunchtime on a Wednesday afternoon. The person who served me didn't know that my meal came with a drink. The person who served my meal just put it down in front of me and walked off. Service wasn't friendly but the food came fairly quickly. I sat outside. Unfortunately, the nicer seats out in the sun are for smokers and non-smokers have to sit in the shade. The Angel, Basingstoke (formerly Lloyds No.1), is the larger of two Wetherspoon's pubs in the town, being a new-build in the restaurant sector of Festival Place, opposite the Vue cinema. Handy for shoppers, it would seem to have everything in its favour for those wishing to partake of low-cost drinks and basic good-value pub food. The drinks range is wide with a good selection of (mostly) well-kept traditional draught beers and a larger selection of other beers, spirits and wines than any other Basingstoke hostelry. The Angel is a one-bar outlet and is often very busy. Therein lies a problem: it is, by-and-large, not a pub to choose for a quiet drink - the ambient noise level can get quite high. For a bit of quiet relief, there are paved outside drinking areas, but the larger east-facing part is uncovered and in inclement weather is only a viable option for smokers or those who don't mind getting wet! An on-going problem, in my opinion, is that the pub suffers from 'Unruly Child Syndrome' which is a feature of an increasing number of pubs nowadays and, sadly, Wetherspoon's is right up there at the top. It only takes one 'little angel' to cause mayhem and intense annoyance by tearing around the place, screaming at high volume, and bumping into customers and staff who may be carrying drinks or food. Wetherspoon's should enforce a policy that children should be under parental control at all times. Too many parents treat the pub as a crèche allowing their offspring to behave in a way they probably would not tolerate were they at home.
