Since the change of management last year i'm sorry to say standards seem to have dropped. The curry used to be the best in Oxford, their proper chinese chicken curry was absolutely delicious, but now i find it hard to even finish my plate. The chow mein used to be fantastic, but is now oily and grim, and the szechuan chicken once so tasty is now fatty, greasy and tastes a bit odd. It used to be great takeaway, but sadly is not anymore.
We had a lovely meal here and the food was great (top quality pizza express food). The only think that let the experience down was the slow service. Especially when we asked for the bill (3 times) - eventually we had to get up and put our coats on for them to react.
A pub full of character and a characters met lots of interesting and friendly people in the bar which is square and centrally located which adds to the social elements of the pub layout.
First time we had visited for a while. So glad we did. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food. We both had steak and ale pie which was very tasty and very welcome on a freezing day. Could only manage to share a dessert, orange and passion fruit cheesecake. Again excellent.
Don’t think we’ll be leaving it so long to return!
We visited with friends for the Sunday carvery. Before the Pandemic we were regular users but haven't been back for many years, so we wondered if it was still as good. We had no need to worry, the Inglenook is even better than we remembered it, it has been redecorated and has new stylish furnishings the layout of the restaurant is now very spacious with no cramped tables.
The Sunday carvery was always one of our favourites and if anything it is now even better, the food was absolutely superb, served up by really friendly and efficient staff.
We can't wait for a return visit, a truly excellent experience
Got a takeaway for the first time tonight, walked up to the restaurant and ordered waited about 15 minutes and had a drink and chatted to staff who seemed really friendly, got home and food was really tasty will definitely be coming back and recommending to anyone else in Heathfield.
4 of us had lunch here today and it was very disappointing! My daughter wanted something with meat so ordered the lasagna, which was vegetarian, but it wasn’t stated on the menu! It wasn’t even made on the premises it was bought in, it was a very small portion and it was not heated through properly!
I had a small portion of the roast chicken, which was extremely dry, and very mediocre.
My partner had a shepherd’s pie which was tiny, dry and very expensive!
No one came up to ask if we were happy with our meal and then they over charged me for a large roast!
Will never eat there again!
It’s a lovely pub though and we will come back to sit in the garden by the beautiful stream in the summer.
We had a really super family meal here (7 of us in all with 3 vegetarians). Fabulous pizzas, delicious vegetarian risotto and very tasty burgers - and great that you can order a half-portion if you're not quite as hungry. Good selection of ales including some from the local XT brewery. Very friendly service too. A great local pub with very good food.
Family function.
Fantastic afternoon celebrating Mum's birthday. Kyle made us so welcome, going the extra mile to sort some music and even set us up a slide show of photos.
We will I have no doubt be using it again.
Thank you Kyle 😊
