The Old Swan Inn in The Vale of Glamorgan

Another delicious Sunday roast, never disappoints. The perfect venue to meet up with family, friends, and our four legged friends. And always a warm friendly atmosphere.

We went out as a family today with our parents as they had some awful news, a nice meal was expected and what we received was quite possibly the worse Sunday lunch I’d ever had. Sent back once as Luke warm then came back with raw meat and what looked like red ketchup underneath the beef ( later found out it was a beetroot puree!!!bizarre)… left feeling underwhelmed, hungry and ripped off £17.50,,,, should have just popped to Greggs! 😂

Lovely staff here. Very chatty and sociable. Food was disappointing. We had the pork and sage pie which looked amazing when it came to the table but on lifting the pastry lid there was very little filling. Pork was quite fatty and needed to be dissected before you could eat it. Mashed potato was obviously re-heated and was not very nice. Buttered carrots were probably the best part. Sticky toffee pudding was good but chocolate mousse was quite a strange texture. Would probably not visit again.

Staff were outstanding! Manager James took time out to chat with his customers, not often that happens these days. Lunch was excellent very tasty. One slight concern gravy could have been in a gravy boat so as to regulate the quantity and chicken gravy for chicken and beef gravy for red meat. I will return again.

Pleasant late afternoon Sunday lunch We booked for 4 so by this time the choice of roast was limited to chicken or vegetarian. We opted for the chicken which was plentiful and tasty. I would have preferred my gravy in a small side boat, particularly as it was a strong beef flavoured gravy. I would have also liked a few more vegetables. The venue was pleasant and clean and the staff were very welcoming with good service. Really enjoyed! Thank you

We were staying at the local glamping site and were recommended the Swann Inn to eat out at by the owner. When we arrived we were greeted by lovely friendly staff, and whilst I was having my cocktail made another staff member even checked in to see we were being served. We then sat down to eat, I ordered the fish and chips and my partner ordered the ribeye steak. All the food was well cooked, well priced, and presented well. Staff were always around incase we needed anything even though it was obvious the restaurant was busy. I also had the chocolate brownie which was lovely, very rich, and well worth the money. All in all a great evening out, and a real gem of a pub. Thank you for a lovely evening :)

We just love TheOld Swan. It's friendly, well run and has a chef and team who know a thing or two about cooking local food well. My steak last night was perfect and sourced locally through the farm and butchers. The two different beers I enjoyed were both well kept and excellent. Thank you Charlie and team. We and many others are appreciative of what you offer here in Llantwit.

Lovely little pub cosey and warm in front of the fire. Myself and my fiancee enjoyed one of the nicest Sunday roasts we’ve ever had sided with a nice pint of staropramen and a red wine. I had the braised beef dinner and the beef was just simply cooked to perfection! My fiancee at the chicken and I have to be honest I’ve never tasted chicken so good! If we are in the area again we will 100% return!

Food is usually excellent in the Old Swan, but this time it was very disappointing. My friend had a turkey dinner which he said was OK - the plate looked half empty to me. My fish was about 3" long, served with three hard pieces of potato and some (delicious!) red cabbage. Very very disappointing and certainly not worth the money.

We were staying in the village and the taxi driver recommended this place for a bite to eat! Great recommendation as we both had superb meals (vegan curry & aubergine tagliatelle) and such a welcoming staff team! Really enjoyed our visit and would very much recommend!

A lovely dinning area in this old Pub with a real fire. Great staff. I have been here before and have noticed a difference each time. Sadly I think the Sunday dinners are in decline, less food and not hot on arrival! Once a go to venue from miles away for me and friends. Please make the little things matter, as it does for your customers in this current economic climate.

We visited on Friday evening for a drink. The staff didn’t appear to know what they were doing. They were serving people at the bar that were coming after others and ignoring customers that had waited longer. After eventually being served and sitting down with our drinks we decided to have a meal. My wife wanted the chicken pie and I ordered the falafel burger in a bun with an egg and fries. When it came, my burger and fries were presented in a cardboard box like a takeaway, my wife’s did come on a plate. It was poorly presented not cheap and we were really disappointed. We were in Lantwit Major for 3 days, after Friday we didn’t go back to the old swan there were much better pubs across the road. Will not be going back to this pub.

Dropped in for lunch. I had chicken and mushroom pie with carrots, parsnips and chips while my wife had pea and fennel risotto. The risotto was good. The pie had loads of chicken with large sliced mushrooms but the gravy was quite thin but tasty. The veg was not that appealing as they were over cooked. Beer was good. There’s a beer festival on so loads to choose from.

Nine of us had a girls lunch out at the Old Swan today. The food was fabulous… the cod with baba ganoush and chicken specials were really excellent. Lots of rose and service from all the lovely team made this a great day out

Burger with 1 rasher of bacon and over cooked skinny fries that look like it was thrown on the plate. It was terribly presented, no salad in the bun or as garnish on the side at £18 it was extremely disappointing and would not go back and left feeling hungry and cheated. In contrast the fish and chips looked good with "Proper" chips etc.

All pubs do fish and chips - and varies hugely. Really good at The Old Swan - decent size fish, great chips, good value. Friendly service.

Being confronted and made to feel uncomfortable in my regular drinking hole by rob tonight was not my best experience. My only hope would have been to have been spoken to appropriately discreetly and not yelled at across the bar in front of customers. Very immature behavior unacceptable genuinely. Thanks to the rest of the staff that made it clear that it was not appropriate and was childish.

Another delicious lunch! All of us had the fish and chips and it was perfect! Had eaten there before and knew the standard was good! Recommend it.

Six of us stopped off here for lunch today. First visit to this pub and it certainly won’t be our last . Food was very impressive. Three of us went for the Fish and Chips. A generous serving of fish arrived cooked in a light batter served with chunky chips, pea purée and what appeared to be a homemade tartare sauce. Very tasty. The other three had a selection of burgers and filled baguettes. There were six clean plates on the table and six happy customers. Staff were friendly and all necessary measures were in place for Covid. Pub was spotlessly clean too. A very enjoyable lunch, we will be back!

Was very disappointed with take away fish and chips this evening ... chips looked like they had been refried so over cooked and dry .... purée peas not sure what was in it but no taste of peas, tartare sauce looked like they could not be bothered to dice pickle up small and was in chunks ... batter well what can I say and thicker and less crunchy it would have been a damn pancake ... had to peel skin off .... would I recommend ... no not anymore ... always had good food there before so not sure what or who is cooking their food anymore !

Within this quaint village nestled around a triangular centre the Old Swan called us for a brief thirst quenching drink.The bar staff were friendly, efficient and took social distancing seriously. As soon as patrons departed the serving host thoroughly cleaned the table and seating areas. When the rain made a whimsical appearance umbrellas were duly opened.We sat in the beer garden so I cannot comment about inside.If in the area it is well worth a visit.

We had a wonderful Christmas Day lunch here. A good range of dishes on the menu and every one of us were happy with our choices. The service was excellent throughout, a great mix of efficiency and friendliness.

We called in for lunch and ate from the very reasonably priced menu £7.50 for a main course. I had cod and chips, hubby had the burger. Huge list of gins to choose from, I tried the pineapple one which was so delicious. Friendly staff and a lovely old building. A more formal restaurant on one side, with a cosy bar on the other. We ate in the bar. We look forward to returning soon.

I visited yesterday evening after recommended by a colleague and it was a blast. Came in with a friend of mine and enjoyed a lovely meal. Great service by a young waiter who welcomed us in and offered drinks moments after sitting. Would recommend to anyone for a casual/formal evening out.

The worst place I have ever been too.. the pint of course was warm and flat. I ordered food as I missed lunch and was waiting for the wife to turn up. So I ordered Curley Fries and garlic bread.

This was the home of my 12th Great Grandparents. I was excited to dine here while traveling Wales. I very much enjoyed the fish and chips and the place was fantastic, especially to me.

Lovely menu, went with the salmon and lamb dishes, although the classics looked very appetising too. We were well looked after all night and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Great selection of ales and wines too and a very cosy old pub atmosphere. Will definitely be returning for steak night!

Service is soo bad. Staff look as if had no training. I took family for food and the 4 or 5 bar staff was swearing and joking with each other while we were dining. Table was not cleaned although none of the staff was actually busy. Dessert came and the waitress had to put the bowls down around dirty plates. It was embarrassing, needs staff properly trained and a supervisor. Also lighting is poor bulbs not working in the main room. Anyone with bad eyesight will struggle here

Friday night, very lively pub. The fish & chips & burger & chips were delicious. Quick service & good value.

Wow, what a place. We stopped off with our dog for a bite to eat. Firstly, our dog was given a bowl of water and welcomed, major brownie points.

We had a great night here with friends, great pints and good whiskey. I had wanted to come back to sit in the patio but we ran out of time.

Waited a long time for our meal. Pie of the Day and Burger, Pie came with a puff pastry topping that was sloppy and not properly cooked, Pork and Celeriac, served with chips and and roasted parsnip (hard) and roasted carrots. Chips were the best part of the meal, the pie had very little meat content and the gravy was too thin to eat. The burger was OK.

Terrible experience waited 40mins for starter and then another 40mins for main course. This was typical of all customers. Told only one chef on duty all of the others had quit. Returned home for one of the party to be ill. Upset stomach!!

Le Old swan inn est une bâtisse ancienne magnifique en vieilles pierres. L'intérieur est très typique d'un pub du royaume uni, sombre avec beaucoup de bois et de cadres. L'accueil est sympathique. Le barman s'y connait en bières et les fait goûter si on demande. La cuisine est excellente avec que des produits frais. Les plats sont bien cuisinés et assez originaux. Monsieur avait pris un burger d'agneau avec des "curly fries", des frites en tire-bouchon très amusante. Madame avait pris une salade au chèvre chaud qui était fort gouteuse. Allez-y tôt, il cesse de servir à 21h. Les prix sont un peu élevés, comme souvent dans les pubs.

Booked a table for steak night which we have done numerous times before.

Me and my husband visited this pub last Saturday. Well what can I say. The food was amazing, hot and very tasty. I’ve actually booked to go with friends for my birthday.

We popped in for a drink at about 8:30 tonight. The 2 young girls working behind the bar showed no initiative as when there was no one waiting to be served they treated this as spare time and a social event, flirting with male members of staff, both on & off duty, rather than clearing the dirty plates, sauce bottles & glasses etc off the tables. One spilt something on the floor and the chef had to show her how to use a basic mop! At that point we walked out as the situation was too painful to watch.

Visited in May 2019, great food and great service would definitely recommend visiting here and getting the cod!

Everything except steak was sold out. Our table was for 7.30! When it came after an hour and half wait. Steaks were tough and over cooked. Menu when available very fussy and pretentious. Which is okay for a big town. But out of touch with local tastes. Expected more popular items on the menu. Including pasta and even a curry. Rather than pea and broad bean risotto. Pub used to be fantastic and always full. Now empty and not worth booking. Burger is good as is the fish and chips. Vegi option odd and limited choice. All round huge disappointment. Oh. And not offered a dessert! Felt like staff wanted us gone. Shame great shame.
