This pub is an absolute gem. It is so welcoming by not only the wonderful staff but also the other customers. It is very homely, the staff can’t do enough for you. The highlight for us was the food, it came out quickly, hot and very tasty. We had some alterations to the food, which the staff were very accommodating and all our meals came out correct. The pub is very dog friendly which made our outing even more enjoyable seeing all the well behaved pups who loved the attention they were getting. We stayed for the Tuesday weekly quiz which was great fun and everyone had a laugh and got involved. I can’t recommend this place enough and we can’t wait to go back.

Lovely little, dog friendly pub, just off a main road, with parking. Had a great meal here. All the food we had was good, ranging from the rib bourgiugnon to the Sunday roast. Ample quantities for all. What we especially enjoyed was the welcome. We had a 3 month old puppy and were concerned that this may be a problem, but it certainly wasn't. I emailed ahead to check and got a lovely reply. I was also greated by the staff and felt really welcome. Treats for the pup, lots of strokes and seat by the door in case a quick exit was needed. The only reason I have given 4 stars, is that the pub needs a bit of updating, but you might call it quaint. I wouldn't let it put you off going...dogs too.

The Jolly Farmer is a little walk from the town centre but since finding it in 2022 it is, for us, the only place to eat when visiting Winchester. The food is traditional, well cooked with ample portions and excellent value compared to the others in Winchester. The staff are welcoming, it is warm and spacious with plenty of seating and there is a large car park. As we have said before, we will return.

I visit Winchester every few months to see family and on almost every occasion, we visit this pub. The food is good value and reliable, but the reason we always return is the fabulous staff and the general ambiance. It is generally busy, which reflects the popularity of their food, drink and service. The only blemishes I can state are that they can run out of some items on the food menu and that if walking in without booking, you may be disappointed, but even then, the staff will do their utmost to find you a table and make you welcome.

We made a booking for 3.30 which we changed to 5.30 but they never checked to update the lists and we done this around 11am. So the lady after bickering with me about the fact that I should have been there at 3.30 told us we could only have the tiny table in the corner and was slightly rude about this. Around 30 mins after being placed here a couple came in for a table and were told you can sit on any without a reserved sign! So I felt a little frustrated. Food came fast but overall the experience wasn’t to the standard we normally experienced in the jolly farmer… sorry just an honest review.

Overall this is a lovely pub. Situated just outside the city centre, it has good connections by car & rail. Food is good & reasonably priced and there's a good range of beers, lager, cider & other drinks, esp gin to keep one entertained. However (there's always a "but"), immediately opposite the bar there is a fire place facing the seating area which has a hearth in front of it. The hearth is raised approximately 1 to 1 1/4 inches above floor level and, as I found out last night having twisted my ankle quite badly, it is a major trip hazard waiting to happen. The frightening statistic from last night is that out of the party of 32 people in our group, 4 of us fell foul of this hearth to one degree or another which is an unacceptable percentage. When I reported my trip to a barmaid, I was met with surprise, disbelief and no interest whatsoever. The following morning I am unable to go to work, I would appreciate a response from Greene King management or lawyers.

After a family member booked a table we went online to look at the menu, we salivated beyond belief, and with eagerness as we drive to meet all the family to enjoy a Sunday roast. There we waited for our meal, we waited and we waited, then it arrived. With silence at the table we glared at what was supposed to be a roast, with hope we tucked in, if it wasn’t for the watered down horseradish and/or the mintless mint jelly or the sugar berry sauce (expecting cranberry) the meal would have been a disaster. Not even a defibrillator could have brought the vegetables back to life, the peas we sent to the MOD to use in combat, the cauliflower cheese well, the burnt mushy scrapings from a low budget Le Creuset inedible. The turkey, we think it was that, tasted like it had smoked 40 Benson & Hedges, never had smoked turkey roast before, I hope to never again tbh! The Weetabix textured stuffing, no idea what flavour was rather unpleasant. The gravy was good though and it was hot, which was nice. I dare say that was due to it being a freshly boiled kettle and wholesale granules. We didn’t have a pudding, scared to. We actually thought the slate place mat holding the cutlery and 2 and a half napkins was glued to the table, but no it was the sauce that had spilt nigh on 10 years ago holding it down fast like a barnacle on a rock. As true polite customers when the pleasant waitress came and asked us “is everything alright?” People around the table said “yes thank you’. Maybe it was me, maybe I have high expectations of a roast dinner, maybe my mum was just a fabulous cook! No, it wasn’t that as we discussed on the way home, it was worse roast dinner we have all had in the entirety of our adult life. When we got home, we made a pudding. Would we go again? No.

Used the app to order the food and drinks, very easy. The drinks came out quickly, but the food was very slow. There was a table of 16, and 6 (plus other tables) in front of us. The staff did apologise for the slow food service. We weren't in a rush. No cutlery given with the starters which was a little annoying, no steak knife given with the main. Was a 5 star review deserved definitely not, 3 stars would be more accurate but as the meal was £4 for 4 drinks, 2 starters and 4 mains plus the staff were very helpful and friendly and obviously very busy I feel 4 stars were well earned

Having been on the look out for somewhere to eat we hadn’t had much luck. It was Sunday and that time between meal times when a lot of places aren’t serving food. When we came across The Jolly Farmer we thought it would be ok and reliable but were totally surprised by the food. The chef must really have passion and take care and pride in what he serves. We both had a roast and it was by no means a standard chain pub roast, it was delicious. The whole meal was piping hot, the veg lovely, fresh and tasty, not ones that have sat in a Bain Marie for hours like you often get. The gravy had bags of flavour, the roast potatoes were delicious and not reheated shells that have lost their insides somewhere along the way. I am never impressed with pub roasts especially those at a chain pub (no offence) but I have to say it was all spot on and your chef should be congratulated. Thank you for caring about what you do, it was greatly received and appreciated by us

The Jolly Farmer is a busy, town pub populated at lunchtime by local workers. Although the welcome was friendly, the service was slow and the cheese & branston sandwich was one of the worst I've eaten - it was only half a sandwich (i.e. only one triangle), the bread was elderly, thin sliced, brown Hovis (white not being available) which disintegrated on cutting and the salad was about 6 meagre, tired leaves of something green. Not impressed.

Three course Christmas meal for 5 on Saturday night. Each course arrived together and was hot, tasty and there was plenty of it. One of the main courses was a medium/rare steak which was cooked just right. The service was great, we were never rushed, but each course and the drinks arrived when we wanted them. All for a very reasonable price.

We go to a lot of gigs and are always looking for places in new towns where we can grab a good value bite to eat and a drink before the show. This place fitted the bill perfectly. It's located on a main road into Winchester and has a very large car park for patrons. The pub is very nicely presented, smart and tidy, with a decent amount of seating. There was a range of 5 or 6 ales to choose from on the bar and a large and varied menu of typical pub grub. If you're looking for gourmet dining this place may not be for you but for us it was just what we needed.

Staff were pleasant and attentive enough, restaurant is quite nice but a few too many tables making it somewhat claustrophobic.

Had a great meal at the Jolly farmer pub. Great atmosphere. The landlady made us very welcome, offered us a menu and a table. We ordered our meal, which was very nice. The steak was cooked to perfection. It does get very busy, so, I would recommend to book a table.

Estábamos buscando un almuerzo después de un paseo por las afueras de Winchester y el Jolly Farmer estaba en el camino de regreso al Park and Ride.

Stopped here for an early evening meal. Most places in Winchester are fairly priced so we were pleased to find this Greene King pub with "classic pub meals" at two for £8.99. Friendly barman, clean tables, good food.

My friends and I have eaten the pensioners meal fairly often here but after our recent experience I don't think we will return. Firstly we were overcharged and had to point that out, the meal itself was very poor dreadful soup, awful fish and burnt ciabatta, when it actually arrived. As to the peas how can anyone mess up peas? Well The Jolly Farmer can, they were like bullets. Not good enough for a return visit

lovely pub but my only complaint is that legaly when a drink has been served that drink must be supplied to the recipient no matter what the time is and in the case of my visit i bought a drink near closing time and as soon as I bought that drink it was taken of me which is not just illegal but also unfair so for this reason I can not recommend this establishment at all

£26.50 for a day pass, although asked for £30 which includes donation. Our party was made up of 5 adults - we didn’t donate. To put into context, my husband and I have been members of Marwell in our days before our children. It holds a special place in our hearts. We moved away but always managed to make at least 2 visits a year as the children grew up & still do - the kids are now into their 20’s and often visit with us. Sadly the experience over the last 10 -15 years has progressively gotten worse. Every time we go we hope it will be better. Marwell was always at the forefront of conservation and education & had an extremely successful breeding program for the rhinos and giraffes. Much money has been spent on enclosures that didn’t work, the snow leopards, the cheeta, the walkway over the persian leopard, now cloud leopard, the new tropical house, the gibbon enclosure, kids play areas. Now it is a shell. Few animals, lots of paddocks full of weeds, & plastic bottles & little or no information. The annual membership is a steal but place feels more of a kiddies play area than a serious home for conservation and education. It’s expensive and disappointing. Bit on context - The Cotswold Wildlife Park is £19 for an adult. A much smaller facility but full of animals and information & staff happy to help and answer questions.

This pub proclaim on their very own website to be a ‘friendly local pub’, ‘families welcome’, ‘friendly publicans’, ‘where community comes together’, ‘you’ll feel part of the family’…which is quite frankly outrageous given our two experiences here. On the first occasion my little boy became upset in the pub (over something i cant remember- but hes 4, so standard 4yo behaviour which lasted only a minute or two). And when i came back in from the garden, I heard them laughing and one member of staff said ‘hes a brat, and his mother just cant control him which isnt my problem’. Then (heaven knows why we went back) - my friends little boy cut his cheek on the side of a bench in the beer garden - they refused to give us any first aid or call a taxi for A&E, let alone any empathy or basic duty of care. When my husband challenged the manager (Ade) and he said to us ‘if i had my way id make this an adults only pub so we dont have to deal with these nightmare kids’. I could not believe how cruel and uncaring the people working here could be. A little boy had hurt himself and they couldn’t have cared less- but more than that- they were hostile, unhelpful and offensive about the whole thing. Despite it being our local, we have not returned- and we will not be.

Came in for some drinks with friends- the women wouldn’t leave us alone the whole night. Watched us on the CCTV when we weren’t doing anything wrong and asked us to leave when we had bought lots of drinks. The food is sub par and the drinks extortionate . There are so many better pubs in Winchester so go to them.

My wife and I found ourselves at the Cricketers Inn having tried a couple of closer pubs which had stopped serving food at 3pm (totally understandable but we had a lot on and we're running late and hungry!). We're glad we did. We received a warm welcome and a great lunch. 2 courses and some drinks came to just under £50 which I'm not going complain about. The food came out nice and quick, fresh and roasting hot. It was delicious, hats off to the chef. My wife had a chicken burger and I had a stir fry, both went down well. I'd recommend a visit, I'm a little disappointed that we didn't have the kids with us as the play area looked like it would have kept them occupied! Well done.
