Beautiful tea room halfway through our walk. Fabulous location and lovely views. Staff helpful only had drinks. I can't comment on the food quality, though the cakes did look good. We will call again next time we are in the area. Well, worth a visit.
Can only describe Charlie,s as excellent, the food was delicious on a cold and wet day and staff so friendly and helpful. We all chose the full English served with piping hot tea and coffee and have to say the sausages were top notch and the prices very reasonable. Could,nt understand some of the negative comments about the staff as we could not fault them in anyway. To the staff thank you for the tasty lunch and pleasant service.Top marks for Charlie,s
We came a few years ago and the menu was fab so made a point of coming back again while we were in the area but what a shock when we saw that the menu had changed to basic cafe food! We were so disappointed!

Went for Sunday lunch as friends had recommended it. We had a lamb and a chicken roast dinner and Bakewell tart pud. Delicious food, generous portions, good Northern Monkey beer. Welcoming, excellent, friendly service. Can’t fault it. We will be back again soon
Full breakfast is far too meat orientated . As much as I like bacon sausage and black pudding I also like a whole tomato , mushrooms and beans . This came with only half a tomato and no mushroom or beans. Poor quality toast . Flat white fat too milky . Will not hurry back .
We were staying in a little cottage a mile down the road for a week around Cumbria and this was the closest and ended up being one of the best little bolt holes of bliss in the Duddon Valley.
So welcoming, it became a local for my husband and I and if we ever move up there, we’ll be back in being local like a shot.
The food was extensive with a separate superb vegetarian and vegan menu. I have been struggling with a mutated smell and taste for two years and they were so accommodating when I asked for 3 chips with my curry, and 3 was what I had on the plate. Perfect, made us and all of them laugh.
I love the sincerity here and the comforting vibe. I actually feel quite bereft we don’t live next door it’s so good.
As in all of Simon Rogans Restaurants - Overall Perfection.
Service - Faultless , staff trained to the highest levels , knew everything about the food down to the smallest detail. Friendly and welcoming , perfect.
Food - Chef is amazing , love his cuisine (overseen by Simon rogan) and some really unusual combinations ( Celeriac , Pickled walnuts , scotch bonnets , Miso). Memorable food (which is rare these days) and exciting to eat.....top maks to chef Mark McCabe.
Ambience - Romantic , stunning decor that really doesnt get any better.
Prices - A great way to experience Rogans food at a very reasonable price. £95 for 10 or so courses.
Drinks - Can end up bumping up the prices. My tip would be to go for "wine by the glass" rather than the wine flight as you`ll get more.
Would i return ? - 100% YES.
Overall - Definitely one to experience. Michelin star definitely on the way.
We have been to the picnic box on many occasions now, every time we visit Ambleside!
We normally buy jacket potatoes and the home-made fillings are amazing both in quantity and quality.
The overall price of the food makes this an extremely good value lunch.
We will continue to use this as as our go to lunch when in Ambleside
Waited 15 minutes for a bottle of orange juice and a coffee. Waited 4o minutes for breakfast. Food was ok but the toast isn’t toast at all it is a crust roll type of bread that seemed to be heated up rather than toasted, like over heated in a micro wave alerting the breads structure and becoming biscuity. What remained of the coffee was stone cold when it arrived. Staff pleasant but it is understaffed.
Exactly what pizza should be! Great options, fresh ingredients and speedy to the table.
All of it was great but the dips were easily some of the best pizza dips we’ve ever had - had to take the leftovers home.
Dog friendly cafe/bar with inside and outside seating and a history of Bonnie Prnce Charlie. Lovely food selection and cake; staff couldn't be more helpful and the birds enjoyed our crumbs! 😋
A very welcome cup of tea after a rather wet day of walking. The owner was welcoming and very kindly let me wait in the tearoom for my lift. They seem to have a good selection of things to eat and drink. Recommended.
