The Old School Room Tea Shop in South Lakeland

Great little find, basic but wholesome food. Great cakes and the chai latte was fab. There are some waterfalls right next to it so lovely to sit outside listening to the water enjoying a tea and cake.

Superb cafe, been here few times, as passing doing coffin route walk to Grasmere,, food was excellent.As was coffee,, Plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. Staff really friendly and efficient. Recommended to family members.. Perfect,,

I was looking for a nice place to read a book and have a good cup of tea. This place is fantastically cozy next to the river. Sitting here and reading in the sound of the water and eating a fantastically good pastry is unbeatable.

Well priced and a beautiful place to sit and have a brew (or a cream tea) whilst our Nephew continued his sleep! Good coffee, cakes and friendly staff (although one a little grumpy). It would have been good to see more guests doing self-clearance rather than tables being left full of dirty crockery - maybe increased signage attached to the tables relating to that could help?

We go every time we're in the lakes it's a fabulous location and value for money keep up the good work cheers 👍👏

Good stop on walk Ambleside to Grasmere or Rydal Water. Been many times and always great. The Rydal Mount area is good for exploring and well worth a visit in its own right.

Lovely cakes a perfect end to a long walk I would also recommend the toffee apple cake

Fabulous tea house, great for a pit stop next to a bubbling brook to rest your weary bones after a long hike. Good selection of sandwiches, bacon roll, cakes and drinks.

A delightful oasis. Proper coffee. A myriad of treats. A perfect stopping spot after a morning hike.

It was very wet the day we visited and were lucky that someone vacated a table just as we entered. The one helpful young lady soon supplied us with four coffee's or tea's and cakes to our choice. All in all a nice experience. We will return again when next in the area. Hopefully, the weather will be better and we can sit outside and watch the tumbling stream next to the tables.

We were first excited to see the "muddy boots welcome" sign as we were on our way home from a hike. Absolutely excellent little pit stop. We have a restricted diet but that was no problem here. Gorgeous butternut soup and fresh and tasty sandwich too! Amazing quick and hot service, superbly brewed coffee and the friendliest of staff. P.s immaculate toilets. 5 stars well deserved

Great spot to pop in for coffee, cake, sandwich it a bowl of soup. Great service and a roaring fire in the log burner. Well worth building in to your walk.

Wowwww …… what a little gem it was. We just found it accidentally. As we were walking near by and one of the tourist direct that place to visit. Sandwiches 🥪 were bestest ever and staff is polite and smiling 😊. Just loved it. I do really want to go there again. Prices is so reasonable 👍

Great place to get a tea,coffee or soft drink and there is a decent range of snacks and cakes. Staff excellent they are both friendly and helpful, there is just about enough tables outside with seating inside if the weather isn't great. Prices pretty reasonable.

The staff were friendly. The bacon butty,Americano, loose leaf tea and fruit scone with clotted cream and jam was delicious Tea was served with a china tea cup which name the experience memorable

Very friendly and helpful staff, good value for money. Their homemade soup is delicious, as are their homemade cakes!

Splendid place! Really useful after a swim or a walk in the nearby environment. The prices are very fair and the servers were very polite. I would recommend the Guinness Chocolate Brownie, it was divine. They also have toilets onsite which do the job and are clean. Right next to a flowing stream, and the Manor House as-well.

Lovely, full-flavoured coffee without bitterness. Good selection of cakes. Tasty cheese scone slices. Good spaces inside and outside to eat and drink. Quiet and relaxing, adjacent to Rydal Hall's gardens. Good toilet facilities.

Don’t underestimate this cafe. Incredible cakes and coffees. The whole menu is Ideal Lake District fodder. Definitely drop in.

Fab tea rooms behind Rydal Hall with great selection of savoury and cakes. Even better, you ask for a take out bag or the like as you’re going to take cake up to Rydal Caves and eat it there, and they present it in a little box. 12/10 for customer service and being prepared - so obligatory cake in box in cave photo as promised 😂

An older style tea room but with modern fare. All the now too familiar protocols for these businesses to stay open, are in place. Good food, cakes and refreshments. Everything is clean and tidy. Clean and modern toilet block with disabled toilet and baby changing area. Friendly and helpful staff.

Good Victoria sponge, tea and coffee

Currently the tea room is only doing take away, we had a lovely tasty (and satisfyingly hot on a cold day) with a bread roll. We always stop here on our way along the Coffin Path as the food is fantastic and the staff are lovely.

A lovely lunch here, the sandwiches were inexpensive and delicious and the Moroccan chick pea and tomato soup was just the ticket after a wander round the beautiful woodland garden and sculptures. Some children delighted in the hidden toy animals as we ate our lunch and the river provided a playground for a 14 year old. For all there was a campsite and a gypsy caravan style camping area nearby, the place was peaceful on a warm summer's day.

It's a beautifully located place. Very very beautiful. Definitely better than the food, but the place makes up for it. I loved the quote on their front door. It said something like muddy boots and waging tails welcome. I found that very interesting.

Dirty cups, saucers and cutlery. Informed a member if staff and was told it was because they were old and stained. Used a wet finger to "clean" part of a spoon in one wipe. No excuse for poor hygiene standards.

Nice little place. I think it's the sort of place you visit for the views rather than the food/drinks which are more on the average side of the spectrum. Outside seating is a really nice option if you get the weather for it, but there's always seats inside too in case you don't!

Disappointed that I could get a couple of paninis as they had closed the kitchen. I arrived just after 3:30 and cafe closed at 4:00. Not sure how long it takes to make a panini but I am sure they could have made them and We could have finished eating them by 4:00. Not a good way to treat their customers.

Lovely place, very helpful staff. Stoped off for a cuppa wile walking and it was lovely. Seats are oddly low but otherwise very good. Very colourful and pretty will definitely be back.

Nice home made cakes and tea with views over stream and garden. Slightly of the beaten track but worth seeking out, and handy for the coffin road trail. Dog friendly.

Very overpriced, wouldn't change an item on a sandwich, the hot chocolate was 50% froth, and when I ordered two teas but only got one tea bag I asked for another tea bag as the tea was too watery however I was told that I would need to buy another tea for another tea bag

앰블사이드에서 라이달까지 걸어오다가 우연찮게 발견해서 들어간 곳인데, 마을을 가로지르는 폭포인지 개울을 바라보며 차 한잔 할 수 있는 곳이라 정말 좋았습니다. 직원들도 미소가 없어서 그렇지 친절하고 배려심 많은 사람들이었고, 개들과 진흙묻은 신발도 환영한다고 가게앞에 써있어서 마음이 뭔가 푸근했네요. 케잌류도 많고 스콘도 맛있었습니다. 기억에 오래 남을 곳입니다.
