Outstanding food! My partner and I really enjoyed our visit here. We didn’t stay in the hotel but would consider it on our next visit. The staff were really lovely and made us feel very welcome. We both had starters- I had Pork Cheeks and my boyfriend had Camembert- both were incredible! For mains I had Chicken, Bacon, Leek Pie which came with sautéed potatoes, green beans and gravy. My boyfriend had Fillet Steak, which came with chips, tomatoes, broccoli, mushroom purée and he asked for a Wine Sauce. Wow! Both our meals were fantastic. We had no room for pudding but what we ate was very well worth it and we will be back!

We are non residents of the hotel and have visited this restaurant a few times and have never been disappointed. The food is the main feature here and service/staff are professional. The wine list is quite small but adequate, and the view as the sun sets across Windermere from the terrace can be stunning. The only issue I had on my last visit were the hotel guests in the restaurant. Now i realise that they have to eat in the hotel either as part of their package or if they simply choose to, BUT please have some general dress code in place. As we believe at £40 per head plus drinks the restaurant owes it to itself, the chef, and team to put this in place. I'm not talking dinner suits here, but after making an effort as a family, sat next to couples with sweaty dirty vest tops, trunks and flip flops is not keeping with the brand. They should either eat on the terrace or in the bar area or take room service. You simply cannot promote this restaurant at the price point without a smart /casual dress code ( that some of the Lakes Pubs/B & Bs have!) I've got to say that as much as I like the food of Lukasz Zebryk its what is happening out front that is killing his brand. Its a shame that I may be re-visting some of your competition on our next important anniversary/occasion, but please look into the comments above as you deserve to be up there with the best.

Booked here as external customers i.e not guests at the hotel. This didn't seem to be a problem at all. The main waiter was welcoming and knew what he was doing and showed us to our table quickly. All Covid guidelines were adhered to correctly. There was a bit of a quiet atmosphere in the restaurant but this could be due to new Covid guidelines as we hadn't visited before. We both had the lamb rump for our main. I asked for my mash to be swapped for dauphnoise potatoes and this was accomodated no problem. The lamb was excellent and cooked to perfection as were the rest of the sides of the plate. We thoroughly enjoyed it and thoroughly enjoyed our desserts too (chocolate brownie and sticky toffee). There was a female waiter on who seemed very good but the other staff (apart from the waiter who showed us to out seat) seemed to be a bit quiet and uncertain about some things. I got the impression they could be new staff so probably settling in. Overall an enjoyable experience.

We stayed in the Beech Hill Hotel 2 nights over New Years and ate in the Burlington Restaurant on our first night. As a vegetarian you don’t often get many options in restaurants however they had a whole vegetarian menu! I am not used to having so much too choose from, very impressed! We had 2 courses each for £26.95. I had the risotto balls to start and vegetable and cheese crepe for my main (obviously the names were a lot fancier than that) My partner had a steak and was pleased this was included in the deal (usually a surcharge is added for steak) Overall it was a great experience, good quality food and excellent service. We will definitely be returning on our next stay! Thanks.

This is our second visit to this hotel and restaurant and we will be back again. It is old fashioned dining with canapés brought out to you in the lounge while you decide the menu. Perfect food, so much choice of seasonal food cooked perfectly. I had pigs cheek it was amazing and my husband had the lamb starter, perfect as well. Main course was also perfectly cooked and different. The staff are so good and helpful and make the dining experience special. We had a gorgeous view of lake windemere and had a great night.

Four of us dined here one lovely summer evening. We loved the view of the lake. The seabass was badly overcooked and was a meagre portion for a main course. It was no larger than a fish finger! It was cooked to the point of dryness and had no flavour. When I told the waiter this he told me he 'did not believe me'. Not the reply you would expect. At £22.00 it was dreadful value for money. In all fairness the other meals were good and the dessert was very good. We were not impressed when we ordered a bottle of water 'for the table' when the waiter poured one person a third of a glass then took the bottle away leaving the other three diners without.

Lovely overnight stay in this hotel. The Spa was a delight and ticked all the boxes. The jacuzzi overlooking Lake Windermere was the ultimate in luxury and the steam room and sauna hot and relaxing a day treat if you wish. Comfortable relaxing chairs both indoors and out by the jacuzzi beautiful fragrant garden. Dining was exceedingly pleasurable and the food and service an experience to relish looking forward to being treated again the entrees where beautifully presented and tasted as good as they looked. Staff where extremely well informed about the dishes and explained how the food was prepared we each had the dressed crab and I had the delicious lamb rump and my husband had the pork belly. The dessert choices were mouthwatering to choose from and I settled for the egg custard creme brûlée plentiful and wish I could have brought a supply home the chocolate brownie looked just as appetising and my husband enjoyed it. The service was excellent the only negative was the cafetière was old and coffee grinds released into cup and ruined coffee when I asked for a fresh replacement it came promptly but same problem so gave up on it. Value for money and due to standards and service felt it was favourably priced

Several weeks ago I made a dinner reservation at Burlington's at Beech Hill Hotel for myself and four friends. I explained when I made the reservation that we were all celebrating our 60th birthdays with a few days in Cumbria and a 'special' dinner. I asked if it was possible that the restaurant could make the evening even more special for us with maybe flowers on the table or a room with a view over the lake. I was assured that something would be done to make the evening memorable. On at least two further occasions I telephoned to remind the restaurant of our special celebration and was told all was in hand.We arrived at the hotel on Monday 3 July for our 1930 reservation and almost immediately felt disappointed - the welcome was distinctly underwhelming and we were left in the lounge (complete with dirty seats!) for the best part of an hour before being shown to our table. Not a candle, wilted flower or limp balloon in sight at the table. Nor a view of the lake. It took quite some time before a wine order was taken and even longer before our starters arrived. We had opted for the five course menu and were anticipating a wonderful meal, having read the website. Sadly with each course our feelings of disappointment grew. The starters in the main were overcooked, dry and very poorly presented but I'm afraid the sorbet left much to be desired. A half melted ball of mediocre sorbet in the bottom of a shot glass does not in my mind constitute a course. Then the main course - two had chosen sea bass which was so overcooked it was totally dry, likewise the salmon and one had chosen mushroom and artichoke pithivier. When the waiter arrived and announced 'archiecocks', we were all rather confused. After repeating this another three times we eventually gleaned he meant 'artichoke'. It might have been funny if the pithivier had not been so dreadful. A soggy mess with a couple of pieces of mushroom and some barely detectable artichoke. The desserts were probably the best course of the whole evening which is not to say they were completely acceptable.By the time we left the hotel the dinner had taken three and a half hours as we waited so long between each course and for the pleasure we paid over £260 which we all felt was quite a waste of money. I spoke to the receptionist as we left, expressing my disappointment and she promised that the manager would phone me the following day to discuss the matter. Sadly the manager has not had the courtesy to phone me.I then emailed three members of the management team and in the almost two weeks since then, no response. I then telephoned the head office of the hotel and when I explained the situation I was told that if I was expecting a response to an email then my standards were too high!! I pointed out that as a restaurant/hotel their standards ought to be high, I was told that wasn't necessarily the case!!!!Absolutely appalling. If you want a distinctly mediocre, but quite expensive, meal at a restaurant where the management care not a jot for their customers, then go to Burlington's. Otherwise spend your money at a restaurant which values your custom!

Tasty meal and enjoyed the added bonus of having a window seat to look over Windermere as we ate. Food is a little overpriced but is probably bumped up for the view and secluded location, which was beautiful. Food was delicious and beautifully presented but starter portion was on the small side. Despite that we left with full tummies as we opted for three courses. Would recommend this option as I don't think two courses would have left us satisfied.Staff were accommodating and friendly, listened to us and got everything right. Would recommend for couples and older families.

We were guests at the hotel and opted for the on-site restaurant for our first night. We weren't disappointed. On arrival we were seated in the large lounge area and given menus to peruse - quite liked this old-school relaxed approach. We were also brought some canapés and I really liked this little touch. The menu offers quite a selection and the food is locally sourced. There's several options price-wise and it's very reasonable for the quality of the food. I had tomato and basil soup and a chicken dish. Both were really beautifully presented and tasted fab. The staff were all really lovely and the dining room overlooks Lake Windermere so it's a very picturesque and calming setting. Highlight for me was pudding - a trio of fab little tasters with a popping candy surprise. This is a lovely old-school restaurant which offers good value for money in a money-can't-buy-it setting.

We have just returned from a stay at the Beech Hill hotel where we ate at Burlingtons restaurant on the night we were there whilst celebrating my husbands birthday. Well where to start? What a disappointment Our booking was at 8:15pm. We had been sat in the hotel bar waiting for our table & we're not seated until about 8:30pm. The restaurant itself is very dated & has absolutely no ambience on an evening- a bit of background music would've helped but I would say it's in definite need of a faceliftAfter being seated we were not asked for our drinks order. This didn't happen until we had our food order taken. We were then left without our drinks for nearly an hour so fairly parched to say the least! We chased this up a number of times & nearly went to the bar ourselves to sort out We decided to order the 2 course set menu with 2 of us opting for starters & the others planning for dessert. (Planning being the operative word!!) after we had our starters we were then brought bread & butter which was very odd. We were then waiting for our mains- 3 steaks & 1 venison. Two of the steaks were ordered medium rare & one medium well. One of the steaks that arrived for the med-rare order came more over done that the med-well steak. We sent this back & were offered a replacement. When the 2nd one came the size of the fillet was tiny & was even more well done than the first! Not a spot of pink inside. So we sent this back too. At this point the rest of the table had nearly finished & therefore decided to send the steak back & just have the chips & veg available. We were so annoyed with the amount of waiting & quality that we left without having dessert or coffeeOnly after challenging the bill were we able to get the steak removed - we would've expected this to have been offered as standard considering it wasn't eaten. When we came to checkout the next day & settle the bill this had not been corrected to reflect what was agreed the night before so we had to challenge again. Thankfully this was honoured but still a nuisance to have to challenge againOverall very disappointing which seemed to be a common experience whilst we were there. We heard 2 other parties complaining about similar incidences. I hope this feedback will help Beech Hill address some clear issues.

On arriving it is clear that the views are excellent, have a real wow factor and we sat down for pre-dinner drinks ready for a relaxed evening. We were surprised it was so quiet, but then again high season hasn't arrived yet...Unfortunately the service wasn't quite to the same standard as the view and the first interaction was not good. The restaurant manager / supervisor was frankly quite rude and for a moment I actually considered leaving there and then before ordering anything. My wife said to ignore it and it was probably just the Eastern European directness. Throughout our dinner the staff were pretty friendly, albeit could do with some training in how to serve in a higher end restaurant. Unfortunately the restaurant manager / supervisor was not and just spoiled the evening by being constantly, and I'm being polite, grumpy. They are obviously the type of person who does not like customers asking for things on the menu which aren't available....silly me for not knowing!Anyway the food was on the whole pretty good, albeit my steak was over done, but the quality of the cut meant it didn't actually spoil it. Incidentally nobody asked throughout the 3 courses whether the food was okay or not. In summary, the restaurant has a lot of potential with stunning views, but over relies on this. The harsh reality is that you may have a great location and a good chef, but unless you have good service it can count for nothing. Of course we may have been unlucky (as this can always be the case), but for the restaurant to be so quiet (we were one of two couples at 9pm and the only ones left at 9.45pm) probably tells you all you need to know and is consistent with some of the other comments posted. We went to another restaurant the following day which was packed and was turning away customers - the service and food were both excellent, albeit with no scenic views. I hope the GM takes note as I say the restaurant has a lot of potential and should be much busier than it is and easily a 4/5, until then if you value service you will be taking a chance if you dine at Burlington's.

We ate at Burlington's for our evening meal and for breakfast. Kevin is the most welcoming and attentive F and B manager we have ever met. It is so obvious that he loves his job and is intent on making guests have a wonderful experience. Thank you so much for the mint cake cocktail! We must also mention the young Spanish waiter with glasses who was really friendly and attended to our every wish. He went the extra mile and made us feel very special. The food was really delicious, we can highly recommend the lamb and the seabass. Portion sizes are huge too so you won't go away hungry! My husband had the chocolate trio for desert, the chocolate fondant really was absolute perfection. We eat out regularly and wouldn't hesitate to return for a special occasion. Have recommended Burlington's to all our friends and family, a real hidden gem in the lakes!

We ate in the Hotel, as we were staying there. The menu isn't enormous, which is always a good point IMO. I had Cauliflower & Cheddar soup for starter & my Wife had fishcakes, bot were excellent. I had fillet steak & my Wife had a chicken dish, and again, both were excellent, portion sizes just right. Rounded off with a couple of cocktails, we enjoyed a very pleasant evening.

Burlington's restaurant is an absolute gem in the middle of the Lake District, and if you're looking for excellent quality food, beautifully presented and packed with flavour then look no further. Burlington's Restaurant is part of the Beech Hill Hotel, overlooking Lake Windermere and in a prime position for visitors. The restaurant itself is an absolute joy; traditionally-styled, with heavy drapes and fine linens, it produces food worthy of the highest praise. On our first night of a three night stay, we had the five course menu for £39. I started with grilled tuna with rocket, parsnip chips and a peppercorn sauce. This was gorgeous; soft, juicy tuna cooked just so, a sauce full of flavour and perfectly complementing the tuna. My husband had mussels in a little brioche bun, another dish that was accomplished, full of flavour and well executed.A palate cleanser of blood orange sorbet followed, after which we had the mains. My sera bass with olives, green beans and tomatoes was sublime; perfectly cooked fish, fabulously flavoursome olives and tomatoes and great presentation. My husband's salmon was just as good; perfectly judged, highly accomplished and a really super dish. After two great courses I wanted something light and asked if I could just have ice cream, which wasn't on the menu. They charmingly agreed without question, bringing me a dish of home made pistachio and cafe latte ice cream - absolutely sublime. The flavours were outstanding, just beautiful ice cream. This is a gem of a restaurant; if you're in this part of the Lake District and want something a bit special, which is great value and well presented, cooked by someone who really knows what theyre doing and, more than that, cares about what they're doing, then look no further. The staff are a delight; friendly, efficient and accommodating, and this place deserves all the accolades it can get. Go there.

we stayed at this hotel i and i must say the restaurant was the best part of our experience!! we were welcomed by the manager who asked us to take a seat in the bar , He brought menus over which were followed by canapes ,which were amazing as we were showed to our table (by the window) there was a glass of champagne waiting ? The manager explained he wasn't being rude but he overheard that we had just got engaged that day ,, what a touch ,,, the food was outstanding and the service was just as good we will definitely be back..

We've been staying at the Beech Hill & eating in the restaurant for well over 10 years & it seemed like maybe there's a new chef, or the regular chef's nights off? The meals just didn't seem as "special" as on previous occasions, & quite rustic with more lentils & barley etc than previous years. The staff were as professional & polite as always, but, if there is a new chef, then I think we'll try somewhere else to eat on our next visit

Had a slight issue when we went for our food as they had not got us listed for a meal in the restaurant. The staff rectified this very quickly and efficiently and we went on to enjoy our meals. The staff are very polite and helpful and we really enjoyed our evening.

We stayed at beech hill for my 40th birthday so as it was our 20th wedding anniversary I booked a table in the restaurant, we arrived and were seated in the lounge and brought some aperitif to sample ( lovely touch ) they took our order ( we had the 5 course for £39) after a glass of wine we were shown to our table where nothing was to much for the staff all very good and were on the ball , filling water up when needed and giving out bread rolls etc the whole 5 courses were fantastic I can't praise the food highly enough would highly recommend for anyone to give it a go you will not regret it

We arrived and were told to take a seat outside, 10 minutes later I went inside to find the bar to be told someone would come and take my order. 10 minutes later I went back inside to aks who I could order drinks from to which the reply was "Erm, from me I guess" to be fair he quickly appeared with the wine. Another 5 minutes later our food order was taken, when I mentioned the delay I was told they were very busy that evening. The food that came was of a high standard, my Fillet was cooked perfectly and my wife's meal of Belly Pork was brilliant but the intermediate sorbet didn't arrive until after the mains and only once I had asked where it was when our mains arrived. I think they had a few agency workers that evening as one of the waiters didn't know where the toilets were and the hostess looked very glum all evening.Overall the food was great but the service was awful.

The food and service have always been outstanding, however on our last visit on August 25th the service was not up to the usual standard, lots of mistakes were made, including one dessert being missed completely and plates being cleared before diners had finished. It appeared that poorly trained staff were trying to train other staff. However the food was excellent.

When we booked the restaurant we informed them of my wifes food intolerences. Gluten and dairy. Reinforced this with the supervisor when she took our orders and was assured that they would ensure our requests would be arranged.Main course for my wife arrived with a cream sauce all over the steak! Sent it back. Brought back minus the cream sauce and chips as they now informed us they had been cooked in flour! So both my wifes intolerences ignored by the chef!Asked for a steak and salad. Arrived with brocolli and no salad. My meal now cold. Asked waiter to send supervisor as we were unhappy. Nothing happened!, not sure that the staff understood the request!Despite both the web site and menu clearly stating they took note of food intolerences their actions clearly showed the opposite. We left the restaurant at this stage after paying a reduced amount. Will not go back.

Rather over priced.Over cooked lamb starter and Beef Bourguignon with only a little beef and lots of shallots, the sweets could have been better too. Overcooked Pavlova with no meringue...Staff were excellent though

After reading the impressive reviews on trip advisor and a very high rating we decided to visit This restaurant with a family of four. We had a long wait despite pre booking . The canapés were served in waiting area but after a long wait and very hurried up. It seemed more like finishing the ritual of serving canapés than a good service. The ambience was mediocre and the staff seemed very confused and were rushing from one table to another. The food was above average . The selection of dishes and ingredients used were good but considering the price that I paid, I would prefer better service, better cutlery and a posh ambience which I felt was missing.

Burlington's is brilliant, it has been for years now. Served canapes while waiting for your table, the staff look after you very well. The food is sublime, delicate where it has to be robust flavours to complement this where necessary. Every element constructs a brilliant meal and a great dining experience.

As we were celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary and were staying in the area we decided to go for a meal at the hotel where we had spent our honeymoon . We were not disappointed, we sat on the terrace overlooking the lake enjoying a drink and the view . We were presented with beautiful canapés while our order was taken. We chose the 3 course option at £34.95 per head . Both meals were well cooked , tasty and well presented , my husband said he'd never had such a tender piece of beef ( charming !) The staff were friendly and attentive , we were even given an anniversary card . We would highly recommend this restaurant

Excellent, we dined here on both of the nights we stayed at the hotel and we had the five course menu for £39 each and having dined at some amazing restaurants in the area with multiple rosettes/stars for a lot more money we thought that Burlingtons certainly was there equal but at a price that was much more reasonable

We stayed at the hotel so thought we'd try the restaurant. From first appearance it looked great. Staff were very attentive and gave us menus in the seating area before we were shown to the table. Once we'd chosen our meals for the evening, they brought out appetisers which were great. The problems started once we were seated. Waiter offered us bread, but before we were even allowed to finish, the starter was brought out. Within seconds of starter being taken away, the main meal was brought to us - great for efficiency but we were so stuffed from the rushing that we just couldn't enjoy the main. It was a complete waste of food. When we checked out of hotel, receptionist kept insisting we had three courses and wouldn't back down when we said we only had two. Food was ok but I don't really understand why everything was so urgent. At one point we were the only people in the restaurant so it's not as if they had tables to free up.

Delicious food, comfy seats at the lounge in a relaxing atmosphere! The caesar salad i had looks and taste equivalently good! However i found it at £12.95 a bit pricey. This made a star away. Or else it's definitely a 5 star no doubt! The portion is also quite big.

After much research I settled on Burlington's for my neice's 18th birthday meal, with family. From the point of booking to service and quality of food I could not fault the meal.Booking was simple and the staff were very accommodating when I phoned back to change the table time. Upon arrival we very well looked after by attentive but never pushy staff. Drinks were well presented and the cocktails in happy hour very well priced for such a sumptuous hotel. We were served canapes in the lounge bar - very tasty before been shown to our table exactly at our booking time. The 5 course gourmet menu was delicious. Starters were beautifully prepared and presented. The sorbet course was delicious. All the courses were well staggered, never rushed but never too long a wait. There were plenty of staff on hand for any request - more bread, a top up of table water, more drinks, etc. Mains were all well cooked and a much higher standard than average lakeland fayre. Dishes included the duck, cod, beef and lamb were just right in portion size, especially as there were so many courses and more to come. The desert menu was varied and all delicious. The homemade ice-creams, souffles, mouse and so much more were all a credit to the chef. Everything was rounded off with a good strong pot of coffee and sweet treats. This was one of the best meal nights I've had in the Lake District. Thanks to all the staff at Burlington's, we will be back again soon.

As soon as we walked through the door the staff were welcoming and very attentive. The food was lovely and good value for money. We sat outside which is a great little sun trap for those rare sunny days in the Lake District. We would high recommend and we will definitely be back .

An impromptu choice to visit Plato's today and what a brilliant decision and choice. We had a really superb meal and were made to feel very welcome by Ronnie, who looked after us! We had the fish finger sourdough sandwich and the chicken and paprika mayo sandwich...accompanied by parmesan and truffle chips 🍟 😋 absolutely delicious. All washed down with a delightful glass of rose wine. We will definitely be returning. It was such a great culinary treat.

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.
