Lovely hotel and setting. The food choice was good and everything we had was very tasty and well presented. The service was excellent. We really enjoyed our experience and will definitely come again

Great place to stay, excellent staff

Had to approach staff to take drink/food order as over 30 minutes had past since arrival. Food very bland, extremely overpriced, and no check back. Shocking customer service overall. Awful experience!

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary this evening and were left utterly disappointed by the whole experience at The Greenhouse Restaurant. The scenery was good but everything else was far below expectations. Priced to be fine dining but in reality was well presented pub grub at best. Hairs found in food and dirty wine glasses. Service was equally terrible with massive waiting times, clueless staff, overseen by an absent restaurant manager. Avoid at all costs.

We stopped at Castle Green hotel and had a lovely night in this restaurant. Staff were attentive and the food was spot on.

Food was good. However it took an hour and twelve minutes from making our order, for it to be served. And it wasn't that hot..the restaurant was only 1/3rd full. It was a long wait for our lunch! Good job we were not in a hurry...

Ate here whilst exploring the Lake District and the hood was absolutely amazing with excellent table service. Would definitely recommend.

We booked in for Christmas Day Lunch the food was average but trying to get our pre ordered English sparkling wine turned in to a rather amusing comedy scene. 1. Our pre order wasn't in the system. 2. We requested our chosen wine that hadn't been delivered to our table by the end of our first course so we politely asked where it was and were presented with a bottle of sparkling water I explained again that I ordered a bottle of the English sparkling wine not water so had to wait, yet again, before the wrong wine was delivered to our table I explained, yet again, what wine we had chosen by which time our main course had been delivered I spoke to the restaurant manager who was new and explained our difficulties in obtaining the correct wine and she instantly corrected the problem and delivered our wine. If it had been any other day than Christmas Day we would have walked out. As for the food the Crab was acceptable, the Bloody Mary sorbet was melted and had no taste of vodka, the roast potatoes were lovely as was the red cabbage but having paid so much we expected a bit better than the pre packaged sliced turkey we received, loved the Christmas pudding but again I suspect that was down to the supermarket it was purchased from and not the chef. We did leave a £20 tip to the poor restaurant manager who was trying her best and because it gave us such a laugh bringing back memories of Fawlty Towers. We won't be back.

Went to an awards ceremony and it was a pleasant day Good to catch up with staff I hadn't seen for years great hotel and staff

We liked it so much in September that we returned during half term break. This time we stayed 2 nights on a deal that had dinner on first night with 2 glasses of prosecco included. Yet again the meal was delicious and we enjoyed our evening. We had a bottle of wine with our meal, so that was all we had to pay for. We had drinks in the bar later, as it is a friendly and relaxing space. We also enjoyed the music they were playing, it was so us 😃

Excellent food presented and cooked with care and skill, adequate portions not just patterns on plates, open aspect kitchen so diners can see their food being prepared.

Breakfast was exceptional, staff were great and such a lovely relaxing surroundings. The fish and chips were delicious too . Great choice of food on the menu just what was needed.

Nice enough venue for Baby Shower.Food was appalling. Was supposed to be afternoon tea. What was given were a couple trays of sandwiches and poor selection of cake. Had to help ourselves except for hot drinks.There was not enough food for number of people.Service poor.

Good food, kind staff but prices are a bit steep.

The restaurant is an absolute rip-off. You're better off going into to town, and there are plenty of better restaurants at much lower prices. We had: - a £30 steak, which was super below average and quite chewy. On top of that, we asked for medium rare, but got it well done instead. The team handled it really well though, so kudos for the waiters. - a £24 chicken dish which was ok. - 2x £11 pornstar martinis. The worst part? They were really not good... Seriously, 11 quid for a cocktail? Guys, grow up! And that made a £80 meal. £80 for 2 dishes, and 2 cocktails, all of them either average or very below average.

Very good service, a little pricey but it was a pure beef burger and it is a hotel so to be expected

Sad to say but this place was one of my favourite restaurants but it’s standards have dropped massively. First time we’ve been since before covid but mains of lamb served with cold vegetables and Luke warm meat. Steak served with undercooked cold chips. Sweets sticky toffee pudding served cold and Irish coffee served with no cream too layer. All just very poor and still pricey. Unfortunately will not be returning.

The service was excellent, the restaurant was starting to get busy but the staff handled it very well. The food was lovely & there wasn't much of a wait.

Poor menu choice, I think the chef must be stuck in the 80's, but without the fun aspect.... Veggie options seem to be what the sheep eat outside...

Food was great and what would finish it off would be an open fire.

Delicious evening meals, recommend the Barnsley lamb chop.

This was booked for a birthday meal, and although only 1 of us was vegetarian we ordered three vegetarian main courses. As the vegetarian in the party I was a little disappointed initially to see such a limited choice of vegetarian dishes but opted for the beetroot Wellington which sounded interesting. The starter of mushroom soup was tasty although some decent bread (as opposed to the mini loaf) would have made it better also the piece of toast served with the goats cheese terrine could do with being something more artisan rather than what looked like a cheap slice of bread toasted. However the others seemed to enjoy their starters. The beetroot Wellington arrived and was one whole piece of boiled beetroot wrapped in pastry with a small portion of roast potatoes and a small portion of root vegetables and a piece of half roasted white cabbage with a spoonful of gravy. I did not find it very satisfying and it lacked flavour and imagination. I tasted some of the "celeriac burger" chosen by another in our party and really it wasn't a burger just a slice of celeriac in a brioche bun. Neither vegetarian options had any protein and I believe both lacked any thought about the enjoyment of eating them. I would be surprised if the person who thought up these 2 choices is a vegetarian. The fish and chips one of us ordered seemed pretty good. One other comment would be that nothing was marked on the menu as vegetarian (so maybe it wasn't) and we could not find the menu on the website. I'd like to think that whoever plans the menu has a good think about the vegetarian selections on the menu and maybe trials the dishes and gets some feedback from vegetarians before serving the dishes up to the paying public. I certainly would not recommend either of these dishes and until I could see a menu on the website and improved vegetarian choices I would not make a return visit.

Had a terrific afternoon tea staff fantastic, surroundings brilliant food really enjoyed the experience would recommend to anyone.

Three generations ranging in age from six to seventy all had a lovely family dinner. The Maitre d' moved us to a much nicer oval table as soon as it became available which was thoughtful. The food was delicious and well-presented and everyone was happy.

Just had a fabulous meal at the greenhouse restaurant at the Castle Green Hotel. The food was great but the waitresses Ruby and Milly deserve a special mention they were brilliant, friendly, incredibly efficient young ladies, an absolute credit to the hotel and restaurant. They really made our night special! Good luck in your future endeavours!

Great place to meet up with a few people over a drink. We had coffee and teas but there's also a licensed bar. Hope to try the food soon.

Definitely NOT high end and medioca service. The chocolate dessert was so small the it didn't show up on the picture. Can't eat mango, so ask to have the icecream removed, so they left to chopped up fresh mango ( sorry I didn't know there was more mango on the plate ), but of offered the hv ex vanilla instead. Poor

Great service in pleasant room. The menu was simplified due to covid, but the food was really well prepared. Great fresh quality ingredients and good wine list. As we stayed overnight, I can recommend the breakfast. Brilliant sausages and black pudding.

What can I say. Food was gorgeous.

We booked an afternoon within the hotel and really enjoyed the selection of sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam. Given the restaurant is situated on a hill it provides great views of the area.

Pity there's so few vegan options. It's 2021 - need to up your game methinks. I had bread & tapenade to start then an 'adapted' couscous salad for main - no vegan option on the lunch menu 👎 Staff were very friendly and helpful and the setting is glorious with far reaching views 👍5 stars for staff but only 2 for food options.

We stayed in the hotel so only had breakfast in the restaurant. A good selection of food but had to ask for more butter every morning. I recommend the porridge. The hot food from the buffet was tasty and a choice of fried or scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, black pudding, tomatoes, mushrooms, and potato hash browns. But all served on a cold plate! So the food cooled down too quickly!

Another first class meal in the Greenhouse Restaurant on our weekend stay at Castle Green Hotel. The quality of food and the friendly, helpful staff made the evening a very enjoyable experience and we look forward to our next visit to the Hotel.

Lovely food, great position by the window looking out over the gardens.

We had a lot of expectations about this restaurant, unfortunately they weren’t realised. No complementary bread as an appetiser, so we requested some. We had to pay £5 for 4 small, dry bread rolls and no side plates. The side plates arrived eventually after we had requested the rolls to be heated. The mains faired no better. The garden burger looked impressive, but the burger itself was bland. The vegetables and pork main were just so salty and the steak was not great. There was not a good balanced selection of desserts and it was strange to see treacle tart and sticky toffee on the same menu. Sticky toffee was nice, the treacle tart was returned and taken off the Bill. It was a small pastry, it was dry and lacked any real flavour. This was not a good meal. For a restaurant with a good rating it was a big disappointment.

Very good lovely staff and very friendly

Great food and friendly polite staff. Tables well spaced out, felt they were adhering to all the new restrictions. We had afternoon tea, and bar snack later in the evening and breakfast. Highly recommend.

Ate twice in the Greenhouse restaurant, both times the staff welcomed us in a friendly helpful manner, nothing was a problem to them, great menu, the food we ordered was presented well and tasted fantastic, great service, great food enjoyed by all.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights in the hotel and ate in the Greenhouse both evenings. The unusual conditions this year had restricted the choices but what was served was amongst the best food I have eaten. I had slow cooked steak the first night and pork the second - everything was spot on. Staff were attentive and service was timely. Highly recommended all round. With restrictions continuing it is highly advisable to book a table.

La relación calidad-precio en la cena fue buena, pero cuando nos detuvimos para un almuerzo rápido allí, era un poco caro, pero aún estaba bien. . volvería.

Best fish and chips I've ever had (and I've had alot). Perfect fish. Crispy batter throughout and perfect fish no bones at all. Spot on chips which were crispy on the outside and fluffy potato on the inside. Cant fault that meal at all! Waiter fella was really nice as well. Good ambience for a late meal (8.45). Would deff go back for this meal alone!

Love the restaurant, good food, good wine selection and the staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant was clean and well laid out and the kitchen looked spotless.

Went for afternoon tea, was very expensive but felt really cheap. My wifes cup sadly had a hair in it so that's instantly a bad sign. The food was ok, really just looked like something anyone could throw together.The chips we ordered on the side were delicious however. Probably would not come back here.

A wonderful Sunday lunch at the Greenhouse restaurant, the fish was amazing and the brownie, was incredible!! Service was amazing, thank you to Adam and Aneta!! Will be back!!!

Cenamos aquí mientras estábamos alojados en el Castle Green Hotel. Teníamos la sopa del día (brócoli y espinacas) como entrante, salchichas y puré y pescado y patatas fritas para los platos principales, y la tarta de queso de frambuesa como postre. La comida era decente y se sirve con prontitud. Tuve que esperar un poco y pedir nuestra factura dos veces, pero por lo demás tuve una buena experiencia.

Lovely spot on the edge of the Lake district complete with pool and excellent restaurants.

Creo que las vistas y el ambiente dentro del restaurante merecen un 5 *. Debido al covid - 19, el menú era limitado, por lo que no pudimos conseguir pizza o palitos de pescado para los niños, pero las salchichas y patatas fritas de Cumberland fueron un capricho con los niños. Mi esposo comió el bistec de ternera de 8 onzas, generalmente no me gustan los bistecs e incluso yo pensé que era A - MA - ZING aunque caro a los 23. . . definitivamente no los precios #FIRE. Debido a que mi esposo no era fiscalmente conservador, tomé la sopa para mi plato principal y eso fue suficiente para mí mientras me sumergí en la comida de todos los demás para probar.

I think the views and ambience within the restaurant alone warrant a 5*. Due to covid-19 the menu was limited so we couldn't get pizza or fish fingers for the kids but the Cumberland sausages and chips went down a treat with the kids. Hubby had the 8oz beef steak, I don't like steaks usually and even I thought it was A-MA-ZING albeit pricey at £23...definitely not #FIRE prices. Due to my husband not being fiscally conservative I had the soup for my main and that was actually enough for me as I dipped into everyone else's food for a taste.

Waited 20 mins to order, a further 20 mins later my bowl of extra salty soup appeared, 15 mins later my ceaser salad appeared missing some of the ingredients, and there was only about 5 tables in. Pretty poor.

English lakes ice cream is the best. Never had better. 👍👍

Took my mum here for afternoon tea, all of which was delicious! We were served by a lady called Emma, who made our whole experience that extra bit special, she was very chatty and nothing was too much to ask of her! Will definitely be coming back again, very impressed.

Unfortunately after a lovely meal at the restaurant and great table service from a couple of members of staff upon leaving the hotel having paid the bill and leaving a tip one waitress came running out and had the audacity to ask if she could check whether we paid our bill!! Never in any restaurant have I been asked to do so or been so belittled or embarrassed! Avoid if you prefer not to be called a thief

The menu is varied and competitively priced. Our favourite starters are the salmon two ways or the goats cheese and beetroot panna cotta. For main the loin and braised shoulder of lamb cannot be beaten, though the blade of beef was also delicious (not always available). If the Tasting Menu is available it is well worth the price and the portions are generous. The staff are very pleasant and helpful and the table seating by the window is to be recommended.

We had an enjoyable evening meal with steak dishes. Room area is pleasant and would have a good outlook in lighter evenings.

Brilliant food, fantastic service - highly recommend dining here. Menu choice was excellent and they were flexible when swapping out parts of the dish. Not over crowded tables, and fair prices wine - would eat here again!

Went for a work meeting, really nice place great venue

A lovely restaurant with friendly helpful staff and very good service We were asked to arrive a little ahead of our preferred time as a large party were due to arrive for a meal . I really enjoyed my smoked salmon starter and lamb main course . I personally loathe sprouts and the chef kindly ensured that my lamb main was a sprout free zone ( he replaced the sprouts with tender stem broccoli which was lovely . )Breakfast next morning was also very good.

Only had breakfast in this restaurant as dined next door in Alexander’s.Breakfast Service was slow, you are not offered a cup of tea as you sit down, the waiter/waitress comes later with trays full toast and tea pots. We waited for most of our breakfast for our pot of tea and toast. Seems an inefficient system. Rest of breakfast is buffet which was ok, bar the sausages which were superb!, I waited for chef as sausage tray empty. Worth the wait! Nice view of gardens, i imagine pleasant fine dining

Nos hemos alojado en el hotel Castlegreen desde 2004. Ambos estuvimos de acuerdo en que la comida de esta visita fue excelente y el personal más atractivo. Pedimos sopa para comenzar, luego Chateubriand cocinado a la perfección. Siempre recomiendo Castlegreen por su excelente comida ya que nunca hemos estado insatisfechos. Estamos ansiosos por nuestra Nochevieja quedarse pronto.

This hotel is amazing the room was gorgeous very clean and spacious the views and surrounding areas was exceptional my boyfriend loved it hear and we will definitely be returning.

This restaurant within the Hotel is excellent . We had Chateaubriand , potatoes and Veg , for Dinner , which was absolutely amazing then a full breakfast the next morning , and again this was also first class .The staff were very attentive and made us feel very welcome . Overall , a lovely experience from a couple who eat out on a very regular basis !

Good food good service in the castle green hotel

We were staying in the hotel and decided to eat in the restaurant in the evening. We each had a starter and a main meal which were all delicious, actually the best meal we have had in a long time. I am coeliac and they were very helpful when it came to my meal options. We would definitely visit the restaurant again.

We were on holiday in the area and spent a while researching somewhere to go for my husbands 40th birthday meal which was suitable for our children as well. We wanted somewhere that served good food and we found it, the Greenhouse restaurant was amazing. The staff were welcoming and the food was amazing so much so I ended up having 3 courses. The only down side was that my younger daughter is not very adventurous with food so she chose the children’s pizza which unfortunately came out very over done but the rest of the food was really good

Lovely hotel restaurent & setting

Had the lamb. It was delicious. My wife had the salmon and she said it was wonderful. Compliments were sent to the chef and the service staff as we enjoyed everything so much.

Mi esposo y mi hijo de dos años cenaron aquí hoy. El personal era realmente amable y muy servicial para nuestro hijo. Teníamos el menú de degustación que tenía una excelente relación calidad-precio y delicioso, lo recomendaría sumamente. El personal hizo todo lo posible para que la comida fuera lo más fluida posible dado que teníamos un niño pequeño con nosotros. Fueron impecables en su desempeño. Felizmente volveremos aquí.

La calidad de la comida era excelente, sin embargo, el servicio fue lento. El personal era amable pero no muy experimentado. Solo el gerente podía tomar su pedido de comida y solo ciertos servidores podían tomar un pedido de bebidas, lo que ralentizó todo considerablemente.

This was fine dining with plenty of food. Great service by all staff and the quality of the food was exceptional. Well worth a visit as they have offers on the menu for 2 or 3 courses from a set menu and the food is still freshly prepared.

We ate here as we were staaying in the hotel. The food was amazing and very well presented. The mains were brilliant and they had some interesting desserts to choose from. Excellent bottle of red wine as well. Friendly and good service.

Excellent food and efficient service for a large group of foreign visitors

The whole place is amazing. All the staff are very professional and so helpful and friendly. Went to a murder mystery, been a couple of times, will keep on going !! The entertainment is of high standard. Highly recommend anyone to go here.

Dined as a large group as we were attending a wedding over the weekend . We had a set menu although we could have chosen from full menu with our allowance . But there was enough on set menu to please everyone . Must say the food was fantastic and presented beautifully . Well done to your chefs and kitchen staff . We also had breakfast as well . Again plenty of choice and service excellent . Lovely restaurant and atmosphere .

three of us had the tasting menu with the wine float...food was pretty good not amazing but good all the same, unfortunetly some of the dishes were just missing a pinch of salt and a grind of pepper...the wine paired with each course on the other hand was excellent....the concept of the dishes was there but the excecution was just slightly off point... now the reason for my overall rating being average is that we had to ask for cutlery...not once but on two occasions....u cant eat cheese and biscuits without a knife or a trio of puddings with icecream without a spoon...by the time they arrived our icecream was melting and our dessert looked a soggy mess...tasty all the same but not my idea of fine dining...AND considering the amount we spent which was nearing £300 i think the least u expect is cutlery...so points deducted there greenhouse resteraunt

The hotel was welcoming, food and ambiance very pleasant indeed and the food and wine almost perfect. It was only the final plate of dessert that was disappointing as was the accompanying wine. A swim before breakfast too.
