This hotel/restaurant is in an idyllic spot in Cartmel. Fabulous views. Lovely garden. We called for a Saturday lunch but were disappointed that they only served pizzas. (Which I don't like) Had to find somewhere else to eat!! Even if they'd done soup and sandwiches we would have stayed just to enjoy the beautiful views!!

Stayed just the one night as a quick break Warm welcome from all staff. Great views and lovely room. Lots and lots of hot water in super bathroom and massive and firm bed (just the way I like them) only noise at night was the odd sheep then woke to views of morecambe bay and a really good breakfast with top quality ingredients brought to us by Sue who could not have been better. Great value Inn with a family atmosphere with private parking and views. Didn’t eat dinner as had a large Sunday lunch on the way but food all looked lovely and hope to be back. Thanks to all at Uplands Inn

Tried over 2 days to contact Uplands to book a table via Phone and e mail and their FB page without success . Never got a reply !!! - need better Customer Service system in place !!!!! Decided to walk the Long Uphill road from Cartmel village to the Hotel in the hope that they were open and we could get a table . We did and were ready to eat after our long walk , 8 of us including 4 teenagers . However 2 of our Party ordered the Fish and Chips and sadly it was a massive let down !!!!! It consisted of a very Thin Sliver of Fish covered in a Mass of Dry Batter !!!!! We told the waiter who gave very little response and so one of our party went inside to complain but achieved very little in way of any firm of a reply !!! - need better supplier of your FISH !!!!!!!!

Beautiful rooms with stunning views, first time staying in Cartmel to visit Cartmel races. Stayed in uplands inn which was 20 mins walk from the racecourse which is perfect location. We stayed in the Kent suite which had stunning garden views. We ate in the restaurant which had good choice of food options and was simply delicious. Breakfast was included with our stay and was cooked fresh each morning and made with locally sourced ingredients. Owners and staff are lovely and very helpful. Only downside to our stay was that we only booked 2 nights could of stayed much longer and will definitely be booking here again.

A fantastic stay at Uplands Inn cartmel. Staff were friendly and couldn't do enough. Was made to feel very welcome. Dylan went above and beyond, making myself and my partner welcome. Even had the firepit lit outside while we also star gazed. He is a legend! The food was amazing. Rooms were very clean, and the beds were so comfy. Wonderful location and views. Dog friendly also. Waiting staff very polite but unfortunately the food leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered soup & a cheese sandwich on brown bread, I received white bread, not buttered & less than a handful of grated cheese thrown on & a handful of lettuce on the side. I think a 5 year old had made it. My husband had a burger, thinnest burger I’ve ever seen, on a tiny barm cake, very poorly presented. The same 5 year old obviously made this as well. The food used to be excellent here, definitely gone downhill. The setting is beautiful with superb views but spoilt by big tv showing football & owner downing pints & talking loudly on his phone.

Posting following a lovely weekend break here in February. What can I say....I absolutely couldn't fault anything. We were greeted by Sue and Alan, the owners and the manager Dylan. A lovely family run hotel, with gorgeous fire places was just the vibe we needed after a 4 hour journey. The hotel itself is set in a stunning location with views for miles. They really are incredible. The room was beautiful, clean, tidy, modern, and had all the amenities. I often struggle to sleep when away, but my goodness, the bed and pillows were divine. I had the best sleeps there during my stay. The restaurant, again, was fantastic. I highly recommend the fresh pizzas and the roast dinner. We also had cooked breakfasts on the first morning and eggs Benedict on the second and can honestly say, every meal we had was spot on. Service was always 10/10 with polite staff that are happy to help with any requests we had. Drinks in the bar of an evening were great. I especially liked the selection of wines and the fireplaces. As well as the lovely selection of music they played. A detail we also enjoyed was the selection of cards at the tables, which were random facts, charades, conversation topics etc...which made for some great entertainment. In terms of location, it is lovely and quiet, with Cartmel and Grange-over-Sands a walkable distance. Taxi's can be quite hard to get, but the hotel are so helpful in sorting this. Dylan recommended us a walk to go on to get a full view of the lovely location we were staying in and they provided lots of info on local things to do and things a bit further out, which was really helpful. The staff couldn't do any more for us and we will be returning in July to enjoy the hotel in the summer too! Can't wait!! Thanks Sue, Alan and Dylan...see you soon! ☺️

We have just returned from the family run Uplands having had the most wonderful mother and daughter visit. We can’t thank Alan, Susan and their son Dylan enough for their hospitality, they made us feel very welcome and couldn’t be more helpful. When we arrived, we managed to check in slightly earlier than 3pm, we were shown to our room which was spotlessly clean and had a wonderful view of the countryside. Alan helped us to organise a taxi back to the hotel after a short walk into Cartmel, as there were few taxis available. When we arrived back at the hotel we were greeted with a roaring fire and made to feel at home. We had a couple of drinks in the bar and really enjoyed their company. We even sat outside to see the stars as it was such a clear night. Overall our stay was faultless, we wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be returning and hope to enjoy an evening meal there! Everyone was very friendly and the bed was very comfortable, 10/10 recommend!

We recently visited the Uplands with friends and family. The hotel is in an amazing setting with incredibly friendly and attentive staff. The evening BBQ was absolutely spot on. Huge burgers with all the trimmings were brought to our table whilst music played outside. The bar area was spotless with a huge selection of drinks. Bit of a mixed bag. Overall the service was okay. Not exceptional or not rubbish, just okay. Didn’t get off to a great start when we arrived as the table we had specifically reserved had people sitting on it. When I asked about this they just said sorry !! What’s the point in booking a specific table if you’re going to ignore the customers request ? Restaurant was quiet to start with but then filled up with people who had been sitting out in the terrace drinking . Not the greatest ambience when you’re sitting having an expensive meal and a group come in drinking pints and then get a pizza served to them when they’re sitting a couple of feet away from you… The food was okay but a bit heavy. I had a steak that was basically a solid lump of meat which was tough and not cooked as requested. I couldn’t be bothered complaining about it as I was really hungry by that time but it was not worth the price - over £28 when you include nearly £ for a tiny pot of sauce.. Another table also had a problem as they couldn’t even eat their steak nor one of the other meals. They were local and complained to the staff who then gave them money off. Won’t be back here in a hurry unfortunately.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would... We called ahead to book a table for 5 people at 17:30. Upon arrival we had high hopes as the grounds were stunning however, when entering the establishment we approached the bar to be met by a very distracted barmaid who was more interested in watching the Grand National. She barely managed to peel her eyes away from the TV to answer us when we stated we had booked a table for 17:30. Just then another man came over and told us that they were shut so that they could watch the rest of the Grand National and that we would have to wait. Before any of us could even reply, he scuttled back of to stare at the TV completely ignoring the fact that they has left our group to stand and wait around without being seated (please note we arrived at 17:30 exactly). As a group consisting of a baby & a heavily pregnant lady, this is not something that we were prepared to do. They genuinely seemed more interested in watching the TV than tending to their customers and should not have allowed us to book a table for that time if they weren't actually able to commit to it for the sake of watching TV. Maybe a blessing in disguise as your menu looked as though you has put similar effort into honouring our booking. Luckily we managed to secure a booking at the Pheasant not too far away which I highly recommend!

New Year’s Eve, buffet everything served cold including spring rolls (duck and vegetable) greasy ice cold, scotch eggs black, ran out of plates children throwing what looked like play dough around the food area also jumping around as people tried to serve themselves at the buffet, music which was the entertainment very loud so everyone had to shout, badly run it was more like child minding by the owners of either their or family friends kids, than a New Year, the place needs a good clean it certainly needs better management

We live locally and have been going to Uplands for about 3 years now for drinks and/or dinner. Sadly, as said by another reviewer, it seems to have lost its sparkle. We were there last night for dinner. The service from Lorraine and Matthew was as fantastic as ever and they work so hard. Unfortunately the food was fairly average and when the owner came over to ask if everything was OK, he seemed rather the worse for wear and was definitely swaying and slurring! Sadly I'm not sure if or when we'll be going back again.

Three of us dined in the restaurant on the festive menu. The food was good overall - the cheese board was a highlight (very generous for the price). However, the service throughout the meal was well below average. We dined just after 7pm and were told after ordering that the 3-bird roast was not available. Service was very slow considering there were only 3 other covers. After waiting over 20 minutes for our desserts our waiter had to be asked what the delay was - they were stood chatting to the owner in view. Considering the items ordered were a cheese board and a pre-made trifle this was not acceptable. Whilst eating our desserts the waiter then stood at the next table exchanging numbers with one of the diners. After 2 hours and 15 minutes our taxi arrived and we left without tea and coffee to end the meal. The raffle tickets mentioned on the menu were also not offered. Very disappointing.

We booked the restaurant based upon the many good reviews we saw, for a Monday evening. Regretfully the experience did not live up to our expectations. The dining room and furniture are very tired and the carpets should have been thrown out a few years ago. Various dishes looked and tasted as though the chef had used a blowlamp on them; even one pudding had a burnt crust on it. Maybe the chef employed later in the week is the one who produces the good food?

The setting, location and facilities were perfect, we had a buffet & BBQ which was as good as I have ever seen, loads of choice and an endless supply. All the staff were professional and friendly, even when we got a bit rowdy towards the end of the night (sorry James) and they treated everyone to a wonderful night, I would not hesitate recommending the Uplands to anyone, its a real gem.

We went for a Sunday roast and we were not disappointed. Plenty ogmeat, delicious gravy and I am sure the Yorkshire pudding was cooked in dripping which gave them an edge over many others I have tasted. In fact it was so good we went...

Nice place good service but our Fish and chips was so poor, paid top money for frozen chips and really dry tasteless fish. Not what I expected at supposedly upmarket restaurant.

Tucked away in a small side street this restaurant is very popular. The staff and ambiance are good. Entrees are particularly good and we heard a lot of good comments about the food. The thing that let in down for me was the desserts. They were all £9 and personally l thought this a little steep. We would go again but not have a pudding. Booking is highly recommended.

These guys don't understand allergies. Really nice atmosphere, good service but don’t trust them on allergy info. Didn’t like being questioned about ingredients

First-class fish and chips. Just like it used to be. Not expensive. Still the same great fish and good chips.

Amazing hotel in a beautiful location. We stayed in three rooms as we were going to Hilltop the next morning. It’s literally Nextdoor so perfect if you’ve booked to visit the Beatrix Potter house. Rooms were lovely, comfortable and warm
