Romneys in South Lakeland

Even though it was very busy, the staff were very attentive and the portions were generous. I had a carvery and my sister had lamb and it was lovely. Booking is probably best as it seems very busy.

First visit to Romneys and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was good and reasonably priced. Service was excellent, staff were very professional. We will visit again

Food was ok : nice carrots soup, and chicken burger. In the chicken skewers the chicken was dry and the peppers too burnt. Staff was lovely as the overall place

Mange tout was a little raw for my liking and we seemed to short on chips compared to other times we've eaten there. Otherwise love it. Gravey in the pie is to die for.

Great selection of food super service and good prices. Well worth a visit if you are passing. Do book a table. Parking on site.

Disappointing Service at an Old Favourite... I don't usually write negative reviews, but something needs to be said. We've been coming to Romney's for years and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere, but unfortunately, tonight's experience left a lot to be desired - not because of the food (which was okay), but because of the poor service. We completely understand how difficult it is these days to find and retain good staff, but that only makes it more important for management to ensure proper training - especially when it comes to basic manners and customer interaction. The young lady who served us looked miserable the entire time, but at least she got the job done and had manners. Things took a real turn for the worse when we went to the bar to pay our bill. The older woman with dark hair (who didn't speak great English) was not just unfriendly- she was outright hostile. I had actually planned to leave a tip, as I know how challenging front-of-house roles can be, but her attitude and the dirty looks she gave us changed my mind. To top it off, she snatched the cash from my hand and aggressively gave me my change back without saying thank you. It was completely unnecessary and frankly unacceptable. What made the experience even more concerning was that other guests around us seemed to be treated quite differently much more politely and professionally. It's hard not to wonder if we were being treated unfairly for a reason. We hope that's not the case, but it certainly felt that way in the moment It's a real shame. We live nearby and this used to be one of our favourite places for a meal out. But after tonight, weill be giving it a miss for a while in hope that there are new staff or a serious retraining effort in place.

We came to kendal for a few days getaway, and found romneys. All I can say is wow. Walking in it was clean and well kept, I love that you can see the wine cella through the glass floor. It has a lovely warm vibe, even tho it's ment to be haunted 👻 . The food is absolutely delicious. We were looked after by the staff nothing was to much. We loved the food that much we went back on are second night. This place is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area 5* from me

Great pub food nice atmosphere lovely pub. Staff great many’s thanks Stayed for few nights at one of there lodgings Logging nice clean and tidy, lots of towels and complementary biscuits etc. lovely bathroom and kitchen nice and clean. In general accommodation was good but some damage to some of kitchen cupboards and sofa had seen better days, master bed was very creaky. WiFi was strong but it was open network not good for security at all Food 9/10 Accommodation 7/10

Stopped in for a bit of lunch on our way to ulverston as was dog friendly, a light lunch and everything was spot on, staff were brilliant and very friendly and efficient. Very good value for money, would definitely return if was back in the area. Well done to you all 😁

Amazing food! We had the most incredible meal on Sunday evening. We had the bang bang beef starter- 10/10 Pulled beef 10/10 Beef burgers 10/10 All absolutely incredible. Also they were so lovely to our little dog and we were able to buy some turkey for his dinner from the carvery The lady that served us has a rabbit called Ernie, she was such a sweet girl and had such a bubbly personality Thank you.

Had a long weekend in Kendal and googled best restaurants as we’d not been to the town for several years. Romneys was well rated so we booked a table for 2 for 8.00pm on the Saturday night with last orders being 8.45. Decided to work up an appetite by walking the 25 mins from our hotel in the town centre which was reasonably flat, no mountains to climb and in part by the river. Lovely busy atmosphere on arrival, lots of people just having a drink at the bar and the restaurant warm and welcoming. Staff very attentive from start to finish and despite being a busy Saturday night there was no undue waiting for either food or drinks. Good selection on the menu and we struggled to decide over a number of dishes which all looked tempting. Decided on the lamb shank and the venison cobbler both of which were excellent. Overall the food and wines were very reasonably priced. Had we been staying longer we would have booked again but will definitely return on our next visit.

I delivered there and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

We booked lunch today to bring my 97-year old Mother on the 3rd anniversary of losing my Father onto the heavenly Golf Course. We've been here a few times before with Mum, and on our own, and have never been disappointed. So it was again today. It never ceases to amaze me how just 2 waitresses can do everything required and even more, but yet remain so unfazed. The food was great, and most importantly Mum really enjoyed her Lamb Shank and Knickerbocker Glory. Where she put it all goodness only knows. So, thank you so very much for looking after us again. - Nix and Eva you are both stars. Be there next time we come in!!

The ambience was amazing , staff brilliant, roast beef ciabata etc was delicious. Ordered desserts .... I ab love Eton mess but ..... This just a mush of raspberry/cream with half a shop bought meringue+ a twirl biscuit plonked on top very disappointed... No ice cream or meringue inside ... Up Ur game

Went here as a walk in for the carvery on the off chance. Welcome was a bit frosty as we hadn’t booked, they seated us in the bar which was fine. The person who seated us and was a bit grumpy gave us menus and walked off, we didn’t see her again. It wasn’t made clear whether we order at the bar or get table service. After waiting a while, I went to the bar to ask, someone was immediately sent over and from that moment we were very well looked after. I got a carvery and it was delicious with delicious meat, a great selection of veg, crackling, my husband’s meal was lamb shank and he couldn’t eat it all but it was delicious. I treated myself to a cocktail which was also delicious. Pricing was reasonable. We’ve been here before Covid and this was our first return visit. It’s a cosy family atmosphere where people can eat or just have a drink. Will definitely return.

A warm inviting welcome with happy staff very helpful popped in for early dinner.The food was absolutely delicious I had a lovely slowed cooked dish which was perfection and my friend had Korean beef strips unbelievable flavours .The front of house staff brilliant helpful ann lovely

This is a great pub, have eaten and had drinks here a few times. Staff are friendly and very professional. We have stayed at the Romney apartments, and they are perfect. It is well priced and very comfortable. I would recommend to anyone who is visiting the lakes

We came during the week as a little stop off whilst heading to our destination. We had a fab three course lunch and the dogs were extremely welcoming by the staff :)

A lovely set of options on the menu coupled with excellent service. We will be returning! There is also an interesting window into the cellar placed in the floor at the entrance. Altogether a great place to go for a meal or a drink.

Visiting Kendal for the day whilst on an autumn break, we decided to come to Romney’s for some food after reading so many good reviews. We wasn’t disappointed at all! The pub is beautifully decorated inside with a comfortable, cosy feel, and the staff are absolutely spot on. Very cheerful, helpful, and nothing was too much trouble - particularly the blonde server - I’m sorry I didn’t get her name, but she couldn’t have been lovelier. I chose (from the extensive menu), lamb shank and husband the dirty burger. My lamb was superb, falling off the bone tender and came with mash and veggies. Husband said he would give the burger a 10 out of 10 - it was a thick slab of meat with all the trimmings! Neither of us could manage a dessert despite being tempted by the lovely choices available! Needed to go home for a nap to be honest! Husband said the main toilets were out of use whilst being redecorated, but told to use the disabled one and he said that was nice and clean. All in all we had a very happy experience at The Romney and would recommend to anyone whilst visiting the area. Would advise booking ahead if possible because I think they can be pretty busy even during weekdays.

One of the best stays we have experienced as a Family. From Cheryl to Eva, the whole Team was incredibly welcoming. Went over and beyond to make sure our needs were catered for. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Very clean and well presented accommodation. Also a very short drive to Windermere. Great location. Highly recommended and look forward to staying here again. Abbas

I went in there tonight. I am new to the area I wanted to find a place that was open late because of my work schedule. The bartender working November 1st dark hair nasty attitude. I had 1 beer and a double of vodka. I asked for another vodka. She grabbed the the rest of my beer that I paid for. Out of my hand??,, A Man obviously a regular customer jumped in and smacked the change which was 50 dollared out my hands????? I'm thinking what just happened. I'm humiliated embarrassed. Lovely place we had a sandwich and glass of wine, very speedy service. Waitresses were super friendly and we're so sweet and polite to the elderly customers.

Great find on a Sunday afternoon. They managed to accommodate us with out a booking. Amazing food and really good prices, both for the meal and local ales. If you ever see pheasant risotto as the special go for it 😅

Served with a gammon steak that was so dry I had to send it back once I got someone's attention The second one was an improvement...just. It would have been nice to have been asked how my meal was....that always makes a big difference as many people are too polite to speak up. Serving chips in a tin can doesn't make a gastro pub.

Wow, what a gem of place. Hunting for food whilst stopped in Kendal and, well, we went back on our second night for more. Friendly attentive staff and delicious food with good portions. Good selection of beers too. Proper chunky chips, nice 'n crispy. Excellent burgers, tastes of well seasoned beef. The pie was excellent, good selection of 'comfort food' deserts. Loved it.

Our children are always asking when we can go here. They call it 'The big door, little door pub', as there is a small door into the playground which they love. The playground is a great space for the kids while we are waiting for our food. We have always found the service fast, although there can be a bit of a wait at the bar in busy times. Car park can be full at peak times but plenty of outside seating for summer days.

Avoid this pub for food. I would give it zero if there was an option to do so. We booked a table for lunch today based on good reviews. The lady who sat us down was lovely but that's as good as it got. I ordered gammon that looked raw with a huge amount of fat. Chips were greasy and overdone and it was obvious they were not fresh. We waited ages for 2 apple crumbles and when we chased our order we heard staff saying it was delayed because of the microwave !!! When delivered to the table it was cold and so was the packet custard. Absolute disgrace so we sent them back and left. It wasn't that busy either so no excuse for such bad food an we made a special drive to this pub whilst on holiday. What a shame as on the surface its a lovely looking pub

Looks a nice place. Service was indifferent as items requested were forgotten. Food was very rushed. The starters we had were good, but the mains bad. The Stroganoff was tasteless and the Hunters chicken very dry. Not worth visiting.

Lovely food, nicely served. Great atmosphere, busy and bustling but no delays on foods. Fish pie was a dream, beautifully served with a bowl of mixed fresh vegetables

First time visit as we were on holiday in the area Staff were friendly and efficient. We all thought the food was average. We all had the Hunters Chicken. The chicken was quite tasty with stuffed apple and ginger. The problem we all had was with the vegetables. Although there were generous portions of green beans and broccoli they were not very warm. They were not cooked enough for us. whilst we don't like them cooked to death, these appeared to be just like being blanched. It did not help that the plates were not hot/warm. This caused the veg to go cold quickly. We did not return during the rest of our visit to the area.

Had a Sunday carvery roast beef. Delicious. Very good value for money. However, unlike other carverys, they dont just put the meat on the plate and let you help yourself to the veg. They plate it all for you. To minimise waste of course. But they may just as well add Sunday roasts to the menu and bring it out like the other food. The show of the Carvery seems pointless. Went back mid week when it was quiet. A lot of staff on. But slow service. My husband ordered steak pie, which was tiny and very dry. He did complain. I had lamb shank, which was nice but the veg wasnt cooked enough. Couldnt cut through the broccoli and some carrots. Have mixed feelings about this place now. Sunday lunch is nice...

Love the place. Not local to us but we stop here when having a pit stop in Kendal. Kids insist on it due to small covered play area. Food and drink great and so nice inside.

Found this wonderful restaurant on Google looking for a lunch with parking on our way to Bletchley Park Museum. What a find. Lovely friendly staff and luckily we managed to get a table but I would book in the future as it was very busy. My husband had mussels and chips and I had pan seared cod with crushed potatoes and veg. Outstanding. Definitely will stop by again on our travels.

Arrived around 6pm on Sunday and had to wait around 20 minutes for a table. This place is obviously very popular. Both had the carvery roast which seemed good quality and value.

Great atmosphere, it was a very busy afternoon, but the bar staff worked above and beyond. We had a very tasty and fair priced meal. (I love burgers, the burger and chips were great, big messy burger, but hey, that's what napkins are for) We will return.

As locals we eat here every few months, we've just been for lunch today and the food as always was excellent and very generous portions. I actually went for the tapas style fish goujons with fries as I don't have a big appetite but I still couldn't manage to finish it. The staff are a real credit to the place always friendly and helpful which keeps us coming back for more.

Loved our time here, the choice of food was great, the building is rustic yet welcoming and the staff were very attentive. I would highly recommend!

Absolutely love this place! Lovely, welcoming atmosphere and attentive, friendly staff. The food is amazing and very reasonably priced. Wide selection of drinks to choose from, including great beer, wine and cocktails! I have to recommend the pink gin fizz! 😍 Large, secure, covered play area at the side, leading to a large garden with seating. Lots of parking. Very dog friendly, we have been taking our puppy and the staff have been so kind and helpful. The perfect place to unwind and relax. You can tell that the owners and their team all care about the venue and customers as everywhere is very well kept and clean and everyone is happy and smiling! Called last minute to book Sunday lunch on our way home from the lakes, the lady was very helpful and accommodating and booked us a table for a few hours later and our dog was welcome too. The staff were friendly and the food was very nice. We will definitely visit again next time we go to the lakes.

Sometimes call in here after hiking the Lake District fells… always a good scran with great friendly service. Beer is a decent pint too.

Roast dinner was nice, but 3 people in our party couldn't cut the beef, told the waitress, she said I will let them know, never came back to us , or even offered a discount or anything, the meat is the main part of the roast, very disappointed.

Mushroom risotto was seriously out of this world 🥹 just super great!

Visited Rodney's while visiting my mum with my son . I asked them question if my mum and my son were having food of the menu and I was having sunday roast is it possible to eat at the same time , the young gentleman server said " yes that's not a problem, what we do is the kitchen let's us know a couple of mins prior notice so I could go up to the roast counter and get mine . But hey ho out came my mum and sons food , so there for I had to queue for nearly 10 mins at the roast counter , by the time I got sat down half my mums and sons food was gone so there for I was still eating when they finished . Food time was ruined might as well sat on dif table as we never ate together. The excuse I got was kitchen forgot . Never be back , it's not the same as it used to be which is a shame as I have taken big tables there for family and friend meals . But no more. Don't know if it's changed hands at all but something is just not right . Food 8/10 Service 2/10 Sorry .

Pub was good, good variety of drinks. The menu had a great amount to offer, and everyone in my group was extremely satisfied with their meals. Good prices also. I had the Chilli con carne, and I highly recommend it. amazing portion size and very filling. I also had the warm apple crumble with vanilla ice cream for dessert, and you get a lot for what you pay. amazing flavour, highly recommended. Stayed here for the night with family in the accommodation next to the building (stables), The house included 3 bedrooms(1 room with 2 double beds(downstairs), 1 smaller room with a double bed, and one room with a larger bed(both upstairs)). The bathroom was great, good utilities.

Well what a massive disappointment. We ate here a few days earlier and really enjoyed the food and service so we decided to have our last dinner here. Well it was like night and day. My wife booked a table and when we arrived she waited around 5 minutes at the bar as the staff were more interested in talking to each other. Then we got our table and sat there for 10 minutes and no one came to take our drink order or food order so after a few more minutes decided enough is enough and decided to take our business elsewhere. As we walked out of the door a staff member came over to us and asked if we wanted to order lol. Just sums up the staff are more interested in talking about last night than doing the job there paid to do. We will not be returning
