Great pub with good atmosphere and great roast

Brilliant staff very quiet Sunday night ( no quiz )

Such a lovely setting with such amazing friendly staff. Food was delicious. We really enjoyed it here.

The carvery was very disappointed roast beef unable to serve as it was very overcooked roast potatoes not nice sorry we won't be back.

Very nice meal for a moderate price. Lots of character, particularly like the glass view to the wine cellar in the floor.

We never think of going here but dropped in on a Sunday. We didn’t have the roast which seemed to slow down the service a bit but our meals were all good. Tyson Fury was in the pub with his family at the same time as us, so it was a bit hectic in terms of atmosphere.

A good place, with great food at reasonable cost. It was Saturday evening and packed so quite noisy. The staff did a great job although it took forever to get a peppermint tea.

The food was very nice. Staff were pleasant but forgot one of our orders, but when it did arrive it was freshly cooked and tasty. The house temperanillo was very nice.

Went for a carvery absolutely lovely. Took our dog with us so dog friendly.

We stayed overnight in snug no. 6, a beautiful 2 storey living space with a private balcony/patio area. Having read some prior reviews it was noted that there was a noisy fan outside - this seemed to only run when the kitchen was in service and we did not find it bothered/disturbed us, nor was it a big issue in comparison with the space and comfort of the room. We had a meal and a few drinks in the bar, service was fantastic and our host was very friendly and accommodating. Food was very reasonably priced and was very tasty. Would definitely recommend for either a meal or an overnight stay.

We stayed overnight in one of the apartments and it was a great experience. The apparent was very unique and had some great features. It had everything you needed except a hair dryer. But I am sure there would have been one available if really needed. The pub was also lovely and not overpriced. Definitely would recommend to anyone.

What a beautiful setting! The staff were lovely- very friendly and the service was attentive. I had the fish pie, which was delicious and the vegetables which came with it were fresh and tasty. Highly recommended for an elevated pub lunch or dinner

Ok I called new years eve 2023 wanting to book for a 3 nights break for the day after which would be about £400 plus .Was having trouble on the website so I rang and was told it's new years eve and there busy and to call back in the morning.Appreciate there busy but I don't live local to the accomodation and wanted to book now so can set off early tomorrow Very rude and un helpful.I pointed out well you've lost out on over £400 there was no apologies or anything!Put me off totally to book any time!My money should be as good enough as anyone else!Custom lost!

Nice busy pub, good quality pub food with some nice more unusual additions- I had the sea bass and it was lovely.

Went for Christmas Dinner 150 pounds for the two of us the food was wet and sloppy Yorkshire pudding was like leather roast potatoes size of a brick and so hard you could not cut it with your knife the whole meal was so bad we walked out before pudding and made our dissatisfaction known to staff no wounder they make you pay in advance will never go again

We are a party of 8 and travel to the Lakes every year in November. We have stopped at Romneys for lunch on the way up for the past 4 years and never been disappointed. The food is excellent and can't fault the service. We are made to feel very welcome by the lovely staff who go out of their way to accommodate any requests. They even offered to let the dog in the restaurant as they weren't too busy even though dogs are only allowed in the bar area. We will definitely be going back next November as we have already booked our accommodation.

Lovely food and good service, well worth a try

We have been visiting the area and ate at Romneys twice. We were happy with our meals on both occasions. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive ( not overly so). Would definitely visit again if we return to the area.

Lovely place, came with family, been a few times now, never disappointed

We had a lovely evening here Saturday for my birthday. Separate allergy menu was lovely for one family member who needs gluten free food and she had a good selection to choose from. Staff serving were great, helpful and friendly throughout the evening. We shared some sides instead of all having starters and all chose different main courses that all arrived at the same time. Thoroughly great time had by us all.

Absolutely love this place! Lovely, welcoming atmosphere and attentive, friendly staff. The food is amazing and very reasonably priced. Wide selection of drinks to choose from, including great beer, wine and cocktails! I have to recommend the pink gin fizz! 😍 Large, secure, covered play area at the side, leading to a large garden with seating. Lots of parking. Very dog friendly, we have been taking our puppy and the staff have been so kind and helpful. The perfect place to unwind and relax. You can tell that the owners and their team all care about the venue and customers as everywhere is very well kept and clean and everyone is happy and smiling! Thank you for many lovely evenings Romneys and many more to come! 🙌💓

Food was brilliant, staff were lovely. Went in as part of coach day trip with Middletons.

Food isn’t good, nachos and chilli were bland. Caesar salad was awful, lettuce was wet and the sauce was strangely deconstructed, no cheese. The ONLY reason to go to Romneys was the carvery, now it comes to the table, rather than you visit and help yourself. Not a good move. Meat was good, veg etc bland. Service was good and professional, no complaints there.

Well what can I say? Utterly disappointed with the roast dinner, bring back the carvery days! Presentation was awful- had to ask for roast potatoes (which were rock hard)! Would have had a dessert but changed our minds. Definitely be driving pass next time!

We stayed in a hotel up the road from Romneys . We popped in for a drink one lunchtime as our hotel didn't have the wine we drink so we made a point of having a wine in the afternoon here. We really loved the hotel and the atmosphere was great we booked evening meals which were terrific. All the staff were fantastic and the atmosphere was great really enjoyed it. Next time we come to Kendal will definitely book a room here and definitely recommend it to friends.

Romney's had been recommended to us. And we weren't disappointed at all. In fact it was a lovely experience. Food was tasty, service was excellent and we enjoyed the whole atmosphere!! I had fish and chips and my husband had hunters chicken. We were so full we couldn't quite manage a dessert but our choice would have been apple crumble!! We had been staying in Kendal overnight in a local hotel. When we are in the area again we will definitely return here.

Another great meal and service. Will be back for Sunday lunch next time, there is always a very friendly elderly man that has been coming here every day for decades. If he's there say hello.

We wanted to have a special family meal for over 15 people. The Romneys staff by email and in person on the date were faultless. Friendly, helpful, attentive but not invasive. Everything went exactly as we would have wanted, making it the memorable meal we had hoped it would be. A special mention to Alex for going above and beyond. The restaurant is very comfortable. Precisely the right setting for a nice, informal meal. Parking is also very good. Then there is the food. A wide choice is available on the menu. All of the ingredients are of top quality, cooked extremely well and beautifully presented. Excellent value for money. Needless to say we will be returning again, but to be fair we have been returning again for years now. In all those years Romneys has maintained their excellent standards of service, quality and cooking, which many other venues seem to have problems maintaining. All in all a restaurant that is consistently well above the competition. Our next family meal will be at Romneys because quite simply, why go anywhere else!! Derek and Jane Alker.

The best Sunday Roast near and far. Service is excellent, prices are reasonable.

Probably one of the best pubs I have ever been! Travelling from the Lake district, if you’re in need of some traditional food, that’s the place to visit!

Avoid this pub for food. I would give it zero if there was an option to do so. We booked a table for lunch today based on good reviews. The lady who sat us down was lovely but that's as good as it got. I ordered gammon that looked raw with a huge amount of fat. Chips were greasy and overdone and it was obvious they were not fresh. We waited ages for 2 apple crumbles and when we chased our order we hears staff saying it was delayed because of the microwave !!! When delivered to the table it was cold and so was the packet custard. Absolute disgrace so we sent them back and left. It wasn't that busy either so no excuse for such bad food an we made a special drive to this pub whilst on holiday. What a shame as on the surface its a lovely looking pub

Went for the Sunday roast ....soooo good, can't remember when I had one so nice . Yorkshire puddings the size of your head

Absolutely brilliant service & food was excellent.

Looks beautiful from the outside. As you go in it felt like we were in some kind of weird nightclub / bar that served roast dinners. When they saw a pram we were put in the kids corner. No music. Sweating as was sp hot. We had a roast (not doing carvery anymore, still pulling the covid card). The meat was nice, the yorky was massive and okay. The rest was not good. Mash was clearly powdered packet mash. Given 2 roast potatoes and a small spoon of peas and an egg cup full of gravy. Barely any coliflour cheese either. The roasties weren't even roasted and were hardly cooked. All in all. Not a pleasant experience. Staff were mostly miserable. When they asked how the food was, my wife said not great, its all processed. She just walked away. No parsnips or carrots. They substitute that for sweedlike baby food. Won't recommend or come again. Sad really as some of the locals said it used to be amazing. Especially the red cabbage. There wasn't any of that today either. 🙃

Great place just to eat or a drink. Good choice and good value food. Excellent bar range. We stayed in one of the apartments with friends, 2 bedded. We'll stocked kitchen to look after yourself ( we did lunch in the restaurant and DIY tea in the apartment ). Got it all. From experience I have used the bigger lodge here which is great for a larger group with a big kitchen and lounge to get together whisky having your own bedroom upstairs on on the ground floor.

Stopped here today for lunch with a friend. Brilliant service and great food, we both had sandwich and soup. Couldn't fault it at all. Great prices as well.

Great Pub that serves amazing food. Has a bar menu available al carte and childrens menu. Does roasts on a sunday as well. Dessert are also available. Very child friendly with a covered outdoor play area for all ages which has a child safe gate to keep little ones inside n safe. Also a few tables with children's area. Lots of tables available outside. Would advise booking table if you require to have a meal indoors as can be very busy at times.

Romneys is absolutely amazing! This is the first pub we visited when we came to the Lake District and it did not disappoint and the food was amazing and the staff were lovely and helpful.

We are on holiday from Hampshire Hayling Island, It was tge best food since we were here. The Man who took us an order was very friendly and the lady who served us was very helpful. I had the best fish and chips. And all our children love their food. Highly recommended 👌

What can I say about this place! We both loved it! We were away for a very rare child free weekend and stayed up the road. We were going to eat dinner at the hotel, but I had a Google for eating establishments around the area and found this gem! Great atmosphere in the place, awesome pub, quirky and busy! The staff were all super friendly and attentive! We order food and it came quickly, great tasting! We tried each others and both loved both dishes! If you're in the area, make sure yous top in here, we both can't wait to go back!

Steak and Ale pie was nice, as was veggie lasagne. Chips served with both, very nice. Dessert portions were large and tasty. Staff friendly if not a slightly rushed. Decent prices for the quantity of food.

Enormous choice in menu. Had a lovely meal. Outside play area up to 8.45pm for kids. Can be busy & a little noisy in eating areas at times. If you want a quiet area for two say before booking. Don't think dogs allowed in All areas.

Two friends and I came to Kendal in February 2023 to watch AFC Liverpool play one of their away games, we called in to Romney's, thought the surroundings and the menu looked very nice and decided to get a meal. We were very impressed with the food and service that on return to Kendal this July for the latest game against Kendal (this time there was 4 in our party) we called in again and enjoyed another meal. We all would recommend this fine establishment, Romney's 🙂

Great couple of nights in the Romney,we stayed in a 1 bedroom which was upstairs in the roof space. If you're like me over 6'2" ..Top Tip...Watch ya head lol. Downstairs you have a living space with table chairs and a sofa with tv alongside a kitchen area with microwave,sink,fridge and supplied tea and coffee along with plenty of kitchen cupboards. Over-all very very clean,loved it. Food in the restaurant was very good. So IMO i would definately recommend Romneys in Kendal. We will be returning in the very near future. Shout out to the staff at Romneys,very very good 👍

Nice pub bit of a walk out of Kendall (20 minutes) but worth it.

Very friendly, good food and in a short time the waiters became friends: always interested! It was great for us.

We had walked a long way to get here and were counting on great food after the rave reviews and the beautiful dining area. Sadly we were very disappointed. The food was mediocre. Even the chips weren’t good. The service was lacking any personality. The kids loved the play area but that was about it.

Brilliant food battered fish great only criticism was mushy peas need to be more fluid they were very hard lumpy. But everything else was great certainly go again.

The menu is like going back to the future! (1984) ordered sea bass it was frozen before it was cooked so didn't impress alongside a sad looking bit of vegetables. Thought we'd robbed a bank when the reservation was for 3 but got told off as they said it was for 2. It's not that difficult to put out another napkin and knife and fork. Just like me to order the only thing on the desert that might be homemade but not available (crème brulé). Not many real ale drinkers in here only two on and it wasn't in the best condition.

First time experience thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere along with the service which was friendly and the food was excellent and I would recommend this venue to anyone

Gezellig eetcafé, pub. Informele, maar correcte sfeer, gemeend vriendelijk personeel en geduldig met mensen die niet alles ineens begrijpen. Uitstekend eten en ook voor een redelijke prijs. Twee keer nu geweest en de derde keer komt er aan.

Wonderful stay rooms are clean and tidy staf are very welcoming and the food is just superb especially the Sunday roast.

You might be surprised as you enter the front of Romneys, as inside it's very nicely laid out and light, with interesting decor. This includes a glass floor over the wine cellar. The staff were extremely efficient and pleasant. The menu was varied, and portions were good. Hearty food, so good after a walk. The local ales were well kept. All in all this is a very nice place to eat and drink.

Great pub with a really well thought out play area for kids

Good service and friendly staff in a nice contemporary country style pub. Food is ok too, but not fine dining, so perfect if you want a non fussy dinner or snack.

Took a while for food to come & not all meals arrived but there were a few of us. Service a bit slow but the food was lovely & so were the staff Lovely place, very comfortable. Will definitely be going back
